Moving On to McCain
She’s been talking about him more and more in recent stump speeches, but Hillary Clinton stepped up her criticism a bit in Arlington, VA in the wake of McCain’s chief rival for the GOP nomination dropping out of the race.
“It appears as though Sen McCain wil be the Republican nominee, and I have the greatest respect for my friend and colleague Senator McCain,” she said. “But I believe he offers more of the same. More of the same economic policies. More of the same military policies in Iraq. You know, he said recently he could see having troops in Iraq for 100 years. I want them coming home within 60 days of my becoming President of the United States.”
“Senator McCain has said, well, he doesn’t know much about the economy, and has the same kind of policies that haven’t worked so well for the last 7 years. So I offer a very different vision about what we can be in America.”
She didn’t forget about rival Barack Obama, however, keeping up her old attacks on health care and the housing crisis.
The floor at the gym at this Arlington high school floor about half full, though the bleachers were packed — even though Sen Clinton rolled in more than an hour late. The crowd was about 2,500 strong, though many were high school underclassmen who aren’t likely to be able to vote on Tuesday.
As students and supporters sat waiting, the principal came out to announce that the senator was running late and that the buses would stick around to take students home. He added that she’d called him to apologize, and offered to pay for the buses to stay. Looks like those financial problems of yesterday aren’t so bad after all.

If I were Hillary, I wouldn’t count Mike Huckabee out yet. Though the news media and pundits are quick and eager to predict his demise, he continues to shock many of you people into reality. He remains a viable candidate and his supporters have no intention of giving up. GO MIKE GO!!!

No offense to Mike…I like Mike…but he would need almost every single remaining delegate to win the nomination. He’s a great guy…I like him…but McCain IS the GOP nomination.
Scott
I invite you to have a look at Huckabee’s website http://www.mikehuckabee.com and you will see that I am not alone in believing that Mike can win this nomination. No one said it would be easy but it is not impossible. We need a true conservative in the White House and I intend to fight for Mike as long as the possibility remains.
I’ve never been one to give up easily and I don’t intend to start now. Come on Scott, join the HUCK-A-BOOM. We need you!!!
Scott,
Huckabee wasn’t a threat to McCain when Romney was in the race, and he’s still not. Do you think McCain would have had his voters support Huck in WV if he thought Huck was a threat?
It’s time to flush to the HUCK-A-BOOM down the toilet where it belongs!
The economy? She can’t even handle her own campaign economy, but she will manage the national economy? rrrriiiigggghhhhttttttt..
With the gracious withdrawal of Mitt Romney, from the race today, I must confess that I am sorry. John McCain has not been my choice for President at any time during this election cycle, or any cycle for that matter.
I am now choosing to shift my support completely to John McCain. Today I have decided to bury my hatchet, and end my war on McCain in the interest of the American people. In full disclosure I admit that I have a secret hope of a second chance for Romney. I am hoping for a potential Vice Presidential nod from John, and the opportunity for Mitt to run as an incumbent later after a McCain White House, or after one of the democrats destroys everything that they touch. I am not pleased with many of McCain’s positions, but I do agree that the economy and the war, are the most important issues facing the American people today. As for illegal immigration, I think that we can help John know what is right, and make him listen to the voice of the people by keeping his feet to the fire. Honestly, I am not totally in love with the man but I am not looking at McCain, as a potential spouse, I already have one of those thank you. This is politics and you have to weigh the issues. John McCain has 85% of what we want and if John hooks up with Romney that ratio ends up over 110%. Sound Off.

It is about time Ann Coulter, Rush and the other Rich and powerful members of the CPAC and the acknowledge that the Republican base is also made up of moderates and Evangelicals.
Therefore a large number of the republican doesn’t care or hardly care about the issues Ann mentioned in one of her article; such as open-borders, anti-tax cut, anti-free speech and global-warming hysteric.
I am an Evangelical and I consider myself to be conservative, but my faith also taught me to be compassionate to all, to forgive each other, to be good steward of the earth, it also said we shouldn’t condemn our brothers and sisters.
I don’t believe that the border should be open and I believe crossing border illegally is a crime and a sin; but I still have to show the illegal immigrants compassion.
Also don’t believe that I should condemn them, because Jesus said he that had not sin let him cast the first stone.
I don’t have a problem paying taxes if it is for the good of the country and community.
Therefore I don’t have a problem voting for McCain or Huckabee, because of there stance on illegal immigrants and taxes.
I support Huckabee 100%, but I must admit that I have a problem McCain’s stance on the social issues, but this is something I and also GOP WILL HAVE TO LEARN HOW TO LIVE WITH IT.

[...] It appears as though Sen McCain will be the Republican nominee [...]
Hillary may be surprised. It may not be more of the same with McCain if we see a McCain/Liebeman ticket. Think about it, McCain believes himself to be a ‘true conservative’ and Lieberman, a moderate liberal is never 3 feet away from McCain on the campaign trail.
Is there one McCain supporter out there that can explain to me why they would support him knowing that disgraced open boarders advocate, Juan Hernandez is working for his campaign? He was a former aide to Vicente Fox if you did not know. If you do not believe me, call his campaign headquaters and ask yourself. I have asked this question on other blogs and no one has given me an itelligent and honest answer. Please if you claim to be a conservative or a true American for that matter, please explain to me how you can support a man like McCain.
American Conservative, I have a staff member that believes in tariffs. But I’m a free trader and will remain a free trader.
This staff member, however, is valuable to me for other reasons. Make sense?
JM in Australia: No, it makes no sense. I mentioned nothing about trade. You obviously do not know who Juan Hernandez is. Maybe you can explain who Juan Hernandez is and what he represents. Since you apparently live in Australia, who can not appreciate what he advocates and how that effects illegal immigration. Read my full post before responding.
Ok Huckabee people! Pull your heads out of your *sses! Your boy will pull out after this weekend or maybe next. The only reason he’s staying in it, is to make it look like they weren’t in cohoots the whole time. Do we have to explain everything to you idiots!?
Romney 2012!
American Conservative, I did read your full post; I know who Juan Hernandez and Vicente Fox are (doubtless you won’t be surprised to know that I’m in politics myself); and plenty of people want to immigrate to Australia too - whether legally or otherwise.
Obviously free trade and immigration are separate issues. My point is that having someone on your team that has a different view or position doesn’t invalidate your own position.
Any effective campaign needs members that specialise in particular groups and Hernandez is obviously there to help McCain’s campaigning with Hispanics. BUT, McCain promises to continue securing the borders and there’s no reason not to believe him.
Do you really think that if he becomes President, John McCain is going to suddenly open the borders?Come on. Even if he wanted to, he’d know he would be slammed for it - politically he wouldn’t survive.
JM in Australia:
It is one thing to have someone on your campaign who is hispanic and advocates for ” Legal Immigration” from Mexico and repects Americas laws. It is another to have someone on your team who makes statements like ” Mexico First ” and wants open borders. I love hispanic people and encourgage them to go through the process of becoming a legal American citizen. You are telling me that I should believe a man who tried to pass a amnesty bill and still to this day said he would sign it if it passed through the senate and now he says ” I get it, I will secure the borders”, I should have no reason to doubt him. I love the great country of Australia, but in America we don’t take people at their word that quick. You have to prove it, and by having a man on board who supports and is an advocate for ” illegal Immigration” does not give me any reason to believe him. I know you are smarter than that.
So the GOP choice is now the guy who listens to Juan Hernandez, or the guy who has the NEA endorsment? Where did my party go? Did anyone see?
Anyone notice how much McCain’s “plans” look a whole lot like Hillary’s “plans” . The only differance is that McCain says that he doesnt know much about the economy and will probably keep it on a graveyard spiral. Hillary says that she knows how to fix the economy but will end up taxing you more and docking your paycheck for federaly mandated health insurance all the while keeping illegal immigrants in america so your wages get driven down, so you will not be able to spend your money to make th economy strong. Meanwhile she will be getting rich off of her and her husbands scandels just like the last time they lived in the white house. She recently attacked McCain about a statement he made about “100 years in Iraq”, she is on board with a plan to establish an already under construction U.S. Embassy in Iraq which will be the largest in the world and it will be accompanied with up to 10 U.S. airbases. The troops that will be needed to man this project indefinatly… upwards up 70,000…. 70,000 troops living in Iraq… that is 70% of the ammount of troops sent to invade Iraq. It is quite obvious that she talks out of both sides of her mouth… John McCain is no better, well we probably will not see him selling our secrets to the Red Chinese… But other than that he is not much better…. Com’mon America wake up… turn off the T.V. and look at the people who we are allowing to drive this bus. We need our borders fixed, a safe withdrawl from Iraq that will ensure stability of that country “other wise it would all have been for nothing” We need to get rid of the IRS and we need someone who can and WILL MAKE THIS ALL HAPPEN. Shift your vote to Ron Paul or Mike Huckabee… This country is going broke… they can fix it!
Great post We the sheeple. I have wondered the same thing.
Boy will the Dem’s be flustered and unable to attack when Huckabee is nominated. I actually think a broker convention nominating Huckabee in August is the BEST (and possibly the only) way to win the WH in Nov.
GOOOOOOOOOO BARACK ……… GO
For those of you worried about Huckabee’s tax record, check this article out by Dick Morris (very respected political analyist). Very interesting as the only objection that Republicans seem to have about Huckabee is his tax record. Can we get this out to the public?

Huckabee is a Fiscal Conservative
By Dick Morris
As Mike Huckabee rises in the polls, an inevitable process of vetting him for conservative credentials is under way in which people who know nothing of Arkansas or of the circumstances of his governorship weigh in knowingly about his record. As his political consultant in the early ’90s and one who has been following Arkansas politics for 30 years, let me clue you in: Mike Huckabee is a fiscal conservative.
A recent column by Bob Novak excoriated Huckabee for a “47 percent increase in state tax burden.” But during Huckabee’s years in office, total state tax burden — all 50 states combined — rose by twice as much: 98 percent, increasing from $743 billion in 1993 to $1.47 trillion in 2005.
In Arkansas, the income tax when he took office was 1 percent for the poorest taxpayers and 7 percent for the richest, exactly where it stood when he left the statehouse 11 years later. But, in the interim, he doubled the standard deduction and the child care credit, repealed capital gains taxes for home sales, lowered the capital gains rate, expanded the homestead exemption and set up tax-free savings accounts for medical care and college tuition.
Most impressively, when he had to pass an income tax surcharge amid the drop in revenues after Sept. 11, 2001, he repealed it three years later when he didn’t need it any longer.
He raised the sales tax one cent in 11 years and did that only after the courts ordered him to do so. (He also got voter approval for a one-eighth-of-one-cent hike for parks and recreation.)
He wants to repeal the income tax, abolish the IRS and institute a “fair tax” based on consumption, and opposes any tax increase for Social Security.
Kim: Dick Morris was a political annalyst for Hucksterbee when he was a govenor. Please do not act like he was giving an unbiased view on his tax plan. Morris is a joke and has been Hucksterbee’s cheerleader from the very beginning.
Cafferty: McCain skips vote
http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/politics/2008/02/07/sot.cafferty.file.thursday.cnn
Kim: You do not have to convince me about Illegal Mac. He will go down in flames in the general election. No canidate can win an election without their base. Conservatives are what made this party great.
IF YOU BELIEVE NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE!!!!
83 % of the Vote is not impossible
Huckabee for President
. Social Issues
. Economy
. Reduces Taxes (that will help the rich, the poor and the middle class)
. A voice for the Poor
. Immigration
McCain for Vice President
. Foreign Policy
. Defense and the fight against Terrorism
All Hillary has to do is repeatedly play the soundbite of McCain telling the media that she (Hillary) would make a great President.
The race is already over, “my friends”.
There is no way I could ever support the dirty tricks, liberal Nixonian McCain! As a conservative I will write in Romney in the general election. As for Obama, I can’t believe anyone in their right mind could support the guy. No one I’ve spoken to about him can point to one single achivement during his long tenure in the Senate (all of two years) it’s a stupid peronality cult! Wake up!!!! He’s a no nothing, promise everything without explaining how to pay for it, surrender to terrorists and invite attacks on America loser!
Marcio-I understand why you feel the way you do about McCain, but I don’t get the write-in vote that may as well be a vote for Obama or Clinton. What kind of a statement are you really making?
I to will write in Romney’s name. The statement I am making is that I am loyal to the conservative movement, not the GOP. I mostly vote for people in the GOP because they are most in line with conservative or ” American” values. If the GOP thinks McCain represents those values, then I wan’t know part of it. People think Illegal Mac is a conservative because he supports the surge. Every canidate did as well in the GOP race. However McCain and Hucksterbee want to close Gitmo and have trials for them in the U.S. They both want to outlaw waterboarding as well. I personally do not feel this is torture. When Kalid Sheik-Mohamed shared valuable information regarding the war on terror, than by all means use it on every captured terrorist. It is one thing to pour water on ones face to gain information that will save millions of Americans lives, it is another to cut off genitals and put in the soldiers mouth as Al Qaeda does. Romney is not the perfect conservative, but there never is and I feel he is the most consistant in most of the key issues.
