Who Created Huckabee? Conan, Stewart, and Colbert Fight it Out

Little Rock, AR-

Who created the Huckaboom? Huckabee campaign officials, and the former governor himself may have you believe that it is due to the void of a true social conservative in the race, who could give voice to a segment of working, and middle class Republicans(and some Democrats) that are not being represented accurately by either party. However, the true origin behind Mike Huckabee’s validity as a candidate for the GOP nomination stems not by the aforementioned reasons but from late night comedy.

Stephen Colbert of Comedy Central’s “Colbert Report” attributes Huckabee’s success to the “Colbert Bump”, that Huck received after appearing on his show a few times. But recently, a nasty feud, not unlike Romney vs McCain and Huckabee (but played for laughs), has arisen among popular late night talk shows hosts. NBC’s Conan O’Brien took credit for Huckabee’s rise because he used to have a regular segment that would highlight an unintentionally funny clip from Huckabee supporter, Chuck Norris’ old show: Walker, Texas Ranger. O’Brien’s argument was that since he created Norris( or the resurgence of Norris career), and Norris supported Huckabee, thus, O’Brien created Huckabee. This statement created a full-out late night battle between Colbert, O’Brien and Comedy Central’s Jon Stewart, over, who, in fact “made” Mike Huckabee. Wait, what the hell is Stewart doing in the middle of this, you ask? Stewart’s argument was that he had let O’Brien on his MTV show back in the 90’s before his tenure as late night talk show host. Therefore, Stewart argued because HE made O’Brien, and O’Brien made Huckabee, then by that logic,Stewart made Huckabee. So much drama!

The heated, and hilarious back and forth finally came down to a good old fashioned brawl amongst the rivals on Conan O’Brien’s show, Late Night on Monday.

Who won?

Huckabee is going to NY tomorrow and will appear on the Colbert Report to finally end the argument.

***UPDATE***

Huckabee will also be taping an appearance with Tyra Banks during his media swing through New York today.

Who created Obama? I think the more prudent question is — who didn’t?

This is one of the funniest things in television history. It could become a classic. Watching the hosts trash each other on their shows, then make unexpected appearances on their rivals’ shows has given me serious stitches since this whole thing blew up several weeks ago. I’ve been praying the Huckaboom doesn’t end any time soon just to give these guys more time to develop the feud. Great television. Who needs writers?

It is great to finally have a Republican Presidential Candidate who is not portrayed as the stereotypical angry white guy. I just hope he can he break free of the label of being only an evangelical candidate!

It would be great to have a Republican President who can deliver a punchline, and not be the punchline!

Go Mike!!!!!!

Are there any conservative out there?

Mitt Romney is not only the best conservative, but the best presidencial candidate out there. Not only is he smart and well spoken, but because of his business experience, he knows a lot about the economy. He has also had political success. He’s a Washington outsider, so he can instigate real positive change.

Don’t let the media call this election. If you haven’t voted, vot for Mitt Romney.

ROMNEY 2008!

I think it’s more like… and on the 7th day Tyson Foods created Huckabee.

I’d like to see some of the ding dongs that as bashing Huckabee run for president.

Now that would be very entertaining.

I too am for Mike Huckabee ALL THE WAY!!!!!!

I would never give up my vote to Romney…..NO NOT EVER….I will do a “write in” for Mike necessary, but I don’t believe that will be necessary because he WILL WIN!!!

Ten Reasons Not to Vote for Huckabee

The picture that has recently emerged of former governor Mike Huckabee is that of an intellectually incurious, greedy, and corrupt fundamentalist Christian.

So here are just some of the many reasons not to vote for him.

1. He thinks that scientists believe the earth is “six billion” years old. He also thinks we “just don’t know” how old the earth is.

2. He covered up an incident where his son hanged a stray dog.

3. He lied about having a theology degree.

4. He claims ‘‘The Holy Bible . . . has truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter. Therefore, all Scripture is totally true and trustworthy.’’

5. In 1992, he wanted to quarantine people with AIDS, even though it was well-known then that AIDS could not be spread by casual contact.

6. He improperly claimed furniture given to the governor’s office as a personal gift and then didn’t list it on an inventory of office items.

7. He freed criminals who committed heinous offenses if they said they had become born-again.

8. He wants a regressive national sales tax in place of a progressive income tax.

9. In 1998, he signed a statement saying that “A wife is to submit graciously to the servant leadership of her husband”.

10. He doesn’t accept the theory of evolution.

Huckabee is almost as liberal as McCain. Just because Huck is anti abortion and homosexuality doesn’t make him a conservative!

How dumb do you have to be to run for President without the funds to run a campaign?

You claim to be conservative, but you pardoned twice as many convicts as the previous two Govoners combined. The famous liberal Bill Clinton happened to be one of the previous Govoners.

You use Church houses as campaign stops! That is a joke!

You discount another person / religions claim to be Christian!

That is hilarious. I am glad Mike Huckabee can have fun with it.

I like Mike Huckabee more each day. He is the authentic conservative still in the race. We, as Republicans, need the South to win the general election. Mike Huckabee showed that he can get people out to vote. I hope the momentum will continue.

We don’t like Romney because he is a phony dressed like a conservative….but yet he loves Gay Pride events and loves abortions. Fair and Balanced,

Huckabee isn’t a Christian or a Conservative. Huckabee and his followers are the biggots that discount others faith in Christ.

If Huck wanted to be President he should have raised enough money to support his campaign. It’s not hard to win Southern states when you campaign out of Churches and tell people that your opponent is a member of a cult. It’s not hard to garner support in the evangelical ranks using the tactics that Huckabee uses.

“Mitt Romney pushed through same-sex marriage all by himself, in the absence of any authority or requirement to do so, having a complete misunderstanding of his role as governor and of the significance of the court’s opinion,” said Keyes.

“The court never ordered him to act, nor did he have the right to act, since the legislature never changed the law. Romney claimed he had no other choice, but that’s completely untrue.”

Romney said;

“I promised that if elected, I’d call a truce - a moratorium, if you will…I vowed to veto any legislation that sought to change the existing rules…I fully respect and will fully protect a woman’s right to choose.”

Glenn,

Are we a socialist society or a capitalist society? Where are you coming up with this money worshiping idea? The liberal Democrates have raise far more money than any of the Republicans. Why isn’t rightous Mike Huckabee attacking them?

Romney should be able to change his stance on abortion or gays, unless you don’t believe in repentance!

Comment by Mariana

Interesting…Pre-Super Tuesday, the media was talking about how the winner of CA was going to be the nominee for the democratic party. Let’s see, Hillary was the CA winner and yet the media chose to downplay her big win. Doesn’t it seem like the media (run by a majority of males) secretly want Obama Hussein to win? There is one thing I vividly recall learning in my college political class about the media, they are “King Makers.” The media can make you or break you. Message to you “King Makers:” (We) the people are not stupid, we know you are secretly wanting Obama to win because you CAN’T stand the thought of having an intelligent woman become YOUR commander in chief. It’s a threat to you. Furthermore, stop using the African American’s “movement” for your own guilty pleasures. A movement which by the way is all fake, the real movement was in the 60’s with MLK; A TRUE leader.

To Jax: Romney needs to prove to me and everyone else the he has repentented. I’m not going to blindly follow somebody that supported gay rights or abortion. And I do believe Mitt started the attacking not Huck. His the one that claimed it was a two man race, I think Huck has defienitly proved that wrong.

I just read that Huck has his eyes on the Vice-Presidency via the Double-Talk Express.

At least Fox News can admit that Huck has zero chances of winning the required delegates, and his only chance of being in Washington will be as McCain’s VP.

Your true conservative leader is selling you out and headed to Camp McShamnesty as Liberal Johnnie’s lapdog. You wouldn’t listen to us or the conservative radio hosts, and now you’ve helped a liberal democrat secure the GOP nomination.

Now you’ll have to vote for McCain to get Huck elected. We told you that a vote for Huck is a vote for McCain, but nooooo, you wouldn’t listen…………………..

Comment by ThomasJC

OK, here are some FACTS about why indeed Mike Huckabee is the only leading authentic conservative in this race:

1. Huckabee is 100% prolife–the REAL thing!–and Romney and McCain are NOT. That should be enough, given that 48 million babies have been killed by abortion (in part thanks to financial contributions by the Romney family), for true conservatives to vote for him. Nothing else even compares in seriousness to this grave issue. However, there are many more issues where Huckabee is obviously an authentic conservative:
2. Huckabee supports the marriage amendment. And, unlike Romney who once touted that he would be a better friend to “gays and lesbians” than Ted Kennedy, Mike Huckabee has always consistently stood his ground for the sanctity of marriage.
3. Huckabee is a firm supporter of the 2nd Amendment. Romney is not.
4. Huckabee is the only candidate to sign a pledge to not allow amnesty. His 9-point immigration plan is more extensive than any other candidates’ plans.
5. Huckabee cut taxes more than 90 times in his state. He is a fiscal conservative.
6. Huckabee believes in a strong military. He holds to the Reagan doctrine of strength through peace.
7. During his 10+ years as a governor, Huckabee showed himself to be friendly to homeschooling. He signed into law homeschooling-friendly legislation, and he even had a homeschooling parent on his education board.
8. Huckabee’s plan to abolish the IRS and have a Fair Tax is as conservative as you can get on taxes.
9. Huckabee will help this nation to once and for all be free from dependence on foreign oil, and he has established a timetable to do that. Politicians have been talking about this for decades, but Huckabee has gone a step further: he has committed to doing it and has set a timetable
10. Huckabee believes that we are one nation *under God*.

There is no other leading candidate in this race who even compares to the authentic-conservative credentials of Mike Huckabee.

True conservatives would never support Romney, no matter what. His ties to Planned Parenthood–the largest abortion provider in the nation–and his very recent support of the homosexual agenda should disqualify him from any consideration of any true conservative.

For the sake of the nation, for the sake of the unborn babies killed by abortion and by embryonic stem cell research, for the sake of the sanctity of marriage, for the sake of the 2nd Amendment, and for the sake of having a president who will honor God — I pray that Mike Huckabee will continue to surprise the media pundits and those who keep wishing to no avail for his demise.

I will vote for Huckabee when TEXAS has its primary!

Comment by ThomasJC

48 million babies have been killed by abortion in this nation: more than 1 million per year, more than 3,000 per day. For the unborn, every day is Sept. 11. Mike Huckabee is 100% prolife. Mitt Romney is not.

Mitt Romney is not to be trusted. His health care legislation provides taxpayer-funded abortions for a co-pay of just $50. He has line-item veto, and he vetoed eight provisions in his health care bill, but he did not veto a mandate in this legislation that someone from Planned Parenthood must be guaranteed position on the Advisory Board. His family also has a history of supporting Planned Parenthood–the largest abortion provider in the nation, if not the world–the true “evil empire.” Its founder, M. Sanger, believed in eugenics to stop minorities. Check out the facts. This is truly an evil organization!

Mr. Romney is also no friend of traditional family values. In Dec. 2006, the New York Times reported Romney had been hurt by revelation of a letter he had sent to the Log Cabin Club of Massachusetts claiming he would be a stronger advocate for homosexual rights than would his then-opponent, Sen. Edward Kennedy. “We must make equality for ‘gays’ and lesbians a mainstream concern,” Mr. Romney wrote in his plea for the support of the club, a homosexual Republican organization. The Romney campaign did not dispute the letter’s authenticity. (See http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=57786.) Governor Romney often reminds voters that he tried to fight “gay marriage” while he was governor in Mass. But, the fact is, he was unable to stop it. Mass. is the only state in the nation where so-called “gay marriage” is legal, and it happened on Mr. Romney’s watch.

Mike Huckabee will stand up for the two pillars of our nation — the sanctity of marriage and the sanctity of life — and Mitt Romney simply cannot be trusted to do so. If these two pillars of our society continue to be destroyed, our nation will crumble. They are the two most important issues for that reason. And for that reason, I could never vote for Hillary, Obama, or Romney, no matter what.

My vote will go to Mike Huckabee when TEXAS has its primary!

Comment by dust

To President Romney 08: Maybe you should do some of your own homework? Look at your canidate. I still have not gotten an answer to my question. Why did Mitt support abortion and gay rights? Huck has a much more conservative record. Anything you can throw at my canidate is either unproven or stupid. Also go to Huckabees website; he does not encourage open borders. and I’d rather have open borders that a man that supports abortion, which is the same as being a murderer.

Can any of you answer what percentage of Florida’s primary Huck won? Now tell me how many states and delegates are needed by Huck to get the nomination?

Do you see the trend? Can you see it now? It happens to be what we told you all along.

Huck was there to take votes from Romney, chum up with liberal McShamnesty and jump on the Double-Talk Express once his money runs out.

So much for the “size of the fight in your dog”, huh? He sold you down the river because you couldn’t see the obvious….

To Dallas Republican: You really need to look at the light. Huck is in this to win. He did not help McCain, he helped Mitt if anyone. He took Four states in the south from McCain and he took only one from Mitt. If McCain won those four states this race would basically be over. Look at the precentiges of votes.

No Thanks Florida. I decided back in June when McCain teamed up with Kennedy to give the illegals amnesty that I would never vote for McCain.

I was injured on a state highway near Houston a little over a year ago by an illegal with no license or insurance. He plowed into me while I was sitting at a red light.

I went through three months of physical therapy, and my shoulder is still screwed up 15 months later.

So why should I help elect Kennedy, uh, I mean McShamnesty. As far as I’m concerned. he needs to get injured and wake up to what’s happening everywhere across America…..

Jax,

You criticize Huckabee for receiving what amounts to less than half of the evangelical Christians’ votes…
Did you notice how Romney did in Utah (’Zion’ to LDS folks) ??? 90% !!! Yes, NINETY PERCENT !!!

Comment by Dallas Republican

Marvin, Huck would definitely make a better president than McTraitor, no argument there. So explain how that’s possible please…..

To President Romney 08: you clearly are getting a little to worked up. I am not being self righteous I am asking valid questions. And as far as to answering yours. I will do my best. I have already said Huck is in this to win. You have on prove that he is trying to be Vice President. So how can I answer a unfounded question. Give me Prove. and I have never heard of Juan.I would also never stone anyone because I was told to. You are drawing conclusions way to quickly. But your right a am a Christian but I don’t hate Mormon. They have a right to their religion too. But their religion does scare me, but I hope on day the can see through the lies they were tought and come to know Jesus Christ as their Savior.

I don’t know you (and whether or not you are an extremist), ‘President Romney 08.’

With your rantings about an alleged advisor of McCain’s - the diabolical Juan Hernandez - and your insistence on using ALL CAPITAL LETTERS, you come across as a cartoon character.

Anyone else notice that the states that went Huckabee’s way got slammed by tornado’s just hours later?

“The wrath of God is the only way I can describe it,” Gov. Phil Bredesen of Tennessee said after a helicopter flight to survey the damage. “I’m used to seeing roofs off houses, houses blown over. These houses were down to their foundations, stripped clean.”

A little ironic the “Wrath of God” strikes these particular states (4 of the 5 he won) immediately after the polls closed.

Mikey,

Did I critcize Huckabee for getting half the evagelical vote? I was pointing out that Huckabee can’t compete in a state that doesn’t have a heavy evangelical base like the southern states. Funny that Romney competes in nearly every state, even the states with a very low LDS population.

Comment by Jax

Dust,

There you go again claiming Mormans don’t, ” know Christ as their Saviour”. Get you facts straight. Would Christ approve of you telling a person claiming to be Christian that they aren’t really a Christian? Go read your Bible!

Dallas Republican,

I’m sincerely sorry to hear about your car accident…that’d tick me off, as well. I hope and pray your shoulder gets completely better soon. Having said that, my suggestion was not that you vote for McCain, but Huckabee whose tough immigration stance, incidentally, won him the endorsement of the founder of the Minutemen Project. If you’re gonna tell me, “A vote for Huckabee is a vote for McCain,” please don’t bother - I’m sick of that foolishness! If that’s the case, it’s equally true that “A vote for Romney is a vote for McCain.” A candidate should receive votes on his or her own merit , not because he or she is the lesser of evils.

This year wasn’t so good for true conservatives it seems. I watched as one conservative candidate (Thompson) fell to the abominable McHuckabee in South Carolina and now it would seem that the two headed monster has turned its full fury on the other conservative (Romney) in the race.

I’m beginning to be convinced that it will take a big loss this November to wake up the Republican establishment to the fact that the Republican party is NOT a party of populists or moderates or liberals, it is a party of conservatives. True conservatives take heart, the one positive aspect of a McCain/Huckabee ticket is that it could cause just such a loss and, hopefully, send just such a message. Hopefully in 2012 we will have a real candidate for President coming out of the Republican party.

For Huckabee supporters, don’t worry, your candidate will go down in history…as the liberal with an “R” after his name who helped cripple the conservative movement in 2008.

I seriously hope that after this election season, I never hear the names of Huckabee or McCain ever again.

To you guys that may not know, McCain just hired Juan Hernandez as his Hispanic Outreach Director. Hernandez served as a Mexican Government Official, and has dual citizenship.

Juan is quoted as saying that the southwestern United States is actually a region shared between the US and Mexico.

Hernandez is an outspoken leader of open borders and amnesty for illegals, and says that identity theft would not happen if we would only give them papers to work.

Now I don’t know about y’all, but this really gets me pissed off.

And this is exactly the reason why so many people dislike McCain, because he didn’t learn his lesson with the amnesty bill he tried to pass this past summer.

McCain hired Hernandez to help with his election, the same Hernandez that wants amnesty for illegals and open borders with Mexico!

McCain must be stopped before America is turned into a third-world cesspoollike Mexico……..

To Jax you difienitly need to look at numbers. Mitt would have never won the South. He help stop McCain. I still have no good answer to Mitt support of abortion of gay rights. He just now changed his opionion and I’d like to know why the sudden change right before the primaries. He’s going to have to prove it. Mike Huckabee is not just making up those claims. you can find them yourself.I have to go now. Good Night.

I WILL BE PRAYING FOR ALL OF YOU. AND PLEASE STOP CRITIZING MIKE FOR HAVE CHRISTIAN SUPPORT. I’M NOT CRITIZING MITT FOR HAVING MORMON SUPPORT

Floridian,

Beings you believe canidates should receive votes on their merit I bet what happened in WV made you proud to support Huckabee. It’s not nonsense, McCain proved it!

Beyond the pale, Rick!

Since Huckabee only received 30-something percent of the vote in states he won, chances are good, that the majority of people who lost their homes and their lives voted for Romney or McCain (assuming they went to the polls earlier that day).

To suggest that those people were killed and their houses were destoyed because of God’s wrath makes me worry about what the weather will soon be like over your own house!

Thanks Floridian, I appreciate that. I only mean to say that I have thoroughly researched the candidates on the immigration issue.

McCain’s of course, is terrible, and Huck only recently got a better rating when he signed Roy Beck’s pledge to help fight illegal immigration a few weeks ago.

Huck’s lone endorsement by Minuteman Gilchrist was actually a publicity stunt, as revealed by ALIPAC.

Remember please, and I’m sure you understand, that once your life gets turned upside down by someone else’s fault, you can either take it up the wazoo, or you can fight.

My point is that I have become completely dedicated to fighting illegal immigration in America. I’m the unofficial letter writer for the Dallas Chapter of Citizens for Immigration Reform and get my letters published often in both the Dallas and Fort Worth Newspapers.

I have done vast research on the candidates regarding immigration. Tancredo was the best, then Hunter, then Fred, now only Romney and Huck-nobody else is left.

And Romney had a better record on immigration than Huck, up until a few weeks back when Huck signed the Numbers USA pledge.

So there you go, only facts and no emotion. If McCain gets the endorsement, we’re screwed…

Rick,

In Luke 13:1-5, Jesus’ disciples asked Him about a contemporary (to them) tragedy involving a tower that fell and killed 18 people. Jesus instructed His disciples that these victims were no more or no less evil than anyone else. In other words, people’s suffering is rarely the direct result of the wrath of God. If the Lord worked that way, there wouldn’t be much activity on this website ‘cuz we’d all be toast. God is merciful and kind and patient…we’re all living proof!

Dallas Republican,

Appreciate your viewpoint and your willingness to share your opinion and your personal story. One other (minor) point: I also liked Hunter (including his stance on immigration), and he endorsed Huckabee. (I’m aware of the fact that Tancredo backs Romney). On an unrelated note, I love your city. I lived there for several years, but as a Redskins’ fan, felt a little bit like a black guy at a Klan meeting! In any event, blessings to you!

If all of us true RED-BLOODED conservatives want to do what’s right for this country, we must figure out how to pair Romney/Huck, or Huck/Romney-the combination doesn’t bother me a bit.

Splitting the base is only helping McTraitor, and hurting us.

I wish we could do what it takes to resolve our differences, and get it done quickly, before we turn America over to the three individuals that are guaranteed to help illegals stay here-McCain, Obama and Hillary…..

Everybody think about what I said please, because the last thing we need is a liberal democrat on the GOP ticket!!!

Good night and God Bless US…….

Blessings to you too, and I know Huck is a good man, pray he doesn’t team up with McShamnesty…Good night and hooray for those Giants (they brought the Lombardi back to where it belongs-the NFC EAST)!!!

From Mike Huckabee’s Skeleton Closet
http://www.realchange.org/huckabee.htm :

ENRICHING HIMSELF WITH PUBLIC MONEY

“Mike Huckabee has a record of dipping into public funds and accepting improper gifts from supporters, something worrisome for a job like president where you control a trillion dollar budget. Most politicians use money as a means to get more power, even while living lives of near poverty (as Bob Dole has); surprisingly few actually enrich themselves through their work. Mike Huckabee has.

He was investigated 16 times and cited five times by the Arkansas Ethics Commission for violating ethics rules. Two of those citations were for cash that the governor or his wife accepted but did not report. Huckabee’s gifts peaked at $112,000 in 1999, including $23,000 worth of clothing; over half of that was given by one businessman who Huckabee appointed to a state board.

At one point, Huckabee claimed that he personally owned $70,000 in Governor’s Mansion furnishings donated by cotton grower Boe Adams, but was forced to disavow them after Adams said they were for the state, not the governor. After he moved out in December 2006 though, no one could find the furniture even after a state audit. Huckabee’s wife insisted they must be there somewhere.

In 1999, his former administrator at the Goveror’s Mansion sued him for abuse of state funds, claiming that Huckabee used state funds for upkeep of the mansion on panty hose, barbecue, a dog house, dry cleaning, boat fuel, and alterations to his clothes. Huckabee settled out of court, by agreeing that legal doubts existed over his use of the fund and that he wouldn’t use it for these purposes in the future.

Huckabee also used state police airplanes as a personal transportation service for him and his family, flying scores of times each year, including trips to other states with early presidential primaries. He claimed this was legitimate for security reasons.

In 1994, when he was lieutenant governor of Arkansas, Huckabee formed a non-profit organization called Action America, which seemed to exist only to deliver money to him without donors having to report or limit their contributions the way they would a normal political contribution. In 2 and a half years, Action America paid Huckabee over $61,000 just for giving speeches at its events.

When he was getting ready to move out of the governor’s mansion, bridal registries were set up at Dillards and Target for the governor and his wife, who had been married for more than 30 years. They registered for nearly $7,000 in housewares, as well as $1,000 gift cards.

State ethics laws prohibited the Huckabees from receiving gifts of more than $100 as a reward for doing his job. But there was an exception for wedding presents.

Maybe it’s just an Arkansas tradition — Bill and Hillary Clinton registered for house gifts when they left the White House. An investigation found that they received over $75,000 worth of gifts but did not violate any federal laws.”
