Read Obama’s Super Tuesday Speech Here

As Prepared for Delivery:

Before I begin, I just want to send my condolences to the victims of the storms that hit Tennessee and Arkansas.  They are in our thoughts and in our prayers.

Well, the polls are just closing in California and the votes are still being counted in cities and towns across the country.  But there is one thing on this February night that we do not need the final results to know – our time has come, our movement is real, and change is coming to America.

Only a few hundred miles from here, almost one year ago to the day, we stood on the steps of the Old State Capitol to reaffirm a truth that was spoken there so many generations ago – that a house divided cannot stand; that we are more than a collection of Red States and Blue States; we are, and always will be, the United States of America.

What began as a whisper in Springfield soon carried across the corn fields of Iowa, where farmers and factory workers; students and seniors stood up in numbers we’ve never seen.  They stood up to say that maybe this year, we don’t have to settle for a politics where scoring points is more important than solving problems.  This time we can finally do something about health care we can’t afford or mortgages we can’t pay.  This time can be different.

Their voices echoed from the hills of New Hampshire to the deserts of Nevada, where teachers and cooks and kitchen workers stood up to say that maybe Washington doesn’t have to be run by lobbyists anymore.  They reached the coast of South Carolina when people said that maybe we don’t have to be divided by race and region and gender; that crumbling schools are stealing the future of black children and white children; that we can come together and build an America that gives every child, everywhere the opportunity to live their dreams.  This time can be different.

And today, on this Tuesday in February, in states North and South, East and West, what began as a whisper in Springfield has swelled to a chorus of millions calling for change.  A chorus that cannot be ignored.  That cannot be deterred.  This time can be different because this campaign for the presidency is different.

It’s different not because of me, but because of you.  Because you are tired of being disappointed and tired of being let down.  You’re tired of hearing promises made and plans proposed in the heat of a campaign only to have nothing change when everyone goes back to Washington.  Because the lobbyists just write another check.  Or because politicians start worrying about how they’ll win the next election instead of why they should.  Or because they focus on who’s up and who’s down instead of who matters.

And while Washington is consumed with the same drama and division and distraction, another family puts up a For Sale sign in the front yard.  Another factory shuts its doors.  Another soldier waves goodbye as he leaves on another tour of duty in a war that should’ve never been authorized and never been waged.  It goes on and on and on.

But in this election – at this moment – you are standing up all across this country to say, not this time.  Not this year.  The stakes are too high and the challenges too great to play the same Washington game with the same Washington players and expect a different result.  This time must be different.

Now, this isn’t about me and it’s not about Senator Clinton.  As I’ve said before, she was a friend before this campaign and she’ll be a friend after it’s over.  I respect her as a colleague, and I congratulate her on her victories tonight.

But this fall we owe the American people a real choice.  It’s change versus more of the same.  It’s the future versus the past.

It’s a choice between going into this election with Republicans and Independents already united against us, or going against their nominee with a campaign that has united Americans of all parties around a common purpose.

It’s a choice between having a debate with the other party about who has the most experience in Washington, or having one about who’s most likely to change Washington.  Because that’s a debate we can win.

It’s a choice between a candidate who’s taken more money from Washington lobbyists than either Republican in this race, and a campaign that hasn’t taken a dime of their money because we’ve been funded by you.

And if I am your nominee, my opponent will not be able to say that I voted for the war in Iraq; or that I gave George Bush the benefit of the doubt on Iran; or that I support the Bush-Cheney policy of not talking to leaders we don’t like.  And he will not be able to say that I wavered on something as fundamental as whether or not it’s ok for America to use torture – because it is never ok.  That is the choice in this election.

The Republicans running for President have already tied themselves to the past.  They speak of a hundred year war in Iraq and billions more on tax breaks for the wealthiest few who don’t need them and didn’t ask for them – tax breaks that mortgage our children’s future on a mountain of debt at a time when there are families who can’t pay their medical bills and students who can’t pay their tuition.

They are running on the politics of yesterday, and that is why our party must be the party of tomorrow.  And that is the party I will lead as President.

I’ll be the President who ends the tax breaks to companies that ship our jobs overseas and start putting them in the pockets of working Americans who deserve it.  And struggling homeowners.  And seniors who should retire with dignity and respect.

I’ll be the President who finally brings Democrats and Republicans together to make health care affordable and available for every single American.  We will put a college education within reach of anyone who wants to go, and instead of just talking about how great our teachers are, we will reward them for their greatness, with more pay and better support.  And we will harnesses the ingenuity of farmers and scientists and entrepreneurs to free this nation from the tyranny of oil once and for all.

And when I am President, we will put an end to a politics that uses 9/11 as a way to scare up votes, and start seeing it as a challenge that should unite America and the world against the common threats of the twenty-first century:  terrorism and nuclear weapons; climate change and poverty; genocide and disease.

We can do this.  It will not be easy.  It will require struggle and sacrifice.  There will setbacks and we will make mistakes.  And that is why we need all the help we can get.  So tonight I want to speak directly to all those Americans who have yet to join this movement but still hunger for change – we need you.  We need you to stand with us, and work with us, and help us prove that together, ordinary people can still do extraordinary things.

I am blessed to be standing in the city where my own extraordinary journey began.  A few miles from here, in the shadow of a shuttered steel plant, is where I learned what it takes to make change happen.

I was a young organizer then, intent on fighting joblessness and poverty on the South Side, and I still remember one of the very first meetings I put together.  We had worked on it for days, but no one showed up.  Our volunteers felt so defeated, they wanted to quit.  And to be honest, so did I.

But at that moment, I looked outside and saw some young boys tossing stones at a boarded-up apartment building across the street.  They were like boys in so many cities across the country – boys without prospects, without guidance, without hope.  And I turned to the volunteers, and I asked them, “Before you quit, I want you to answer one question.  What will happen to those boys?”  And the volunteers looked out that window, and they decided that night to keep going – to keep organizing, keep fighting for better schools, and better jobs, and better health care.  And so did I.  And slowly, but surely, in the weeks and months to come, the community began to change.

You see, the challenges we face will not be solved with one meeting in one night.  Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time.

We are the ones we’ve been waiting for.  We are the change that we seek.  We are the hope of those boys who have little; who’ve been told that they cannot have what they dream; that they cannot be what they imagine.

Yes they can.

We are the hope of the father who goes to work before dawn and lies awake with doubts that tell him he cannot give his children the same opportunities that someone gave him.

Yes he can.

We are the hope of the woman who hears that her city will not be rebuilt; that she cannot reclaim the life that was swept away in a terrible storm.

Yes she can.

We are the hope of the future; the answer to the cynics who tell us our house must stand divided; that we cannot come together; that we cannot remake this world as it should be.

Because we know what we have seen and what we believe – that what began as a whisper has now swelled to a chorus that cannot be ignored; that will not be deterred; that will ring out across this land as a hymn that will heal this nation, repair this world, and make this time different than all the rest – Yes. We. Can.

What are we going to do the next time someone blows up another building
or crashes a plane because they don’t like our religion? Maybe acording
to Obama we can make them honerary citizens.
Change for change sake is not always good.

Obama is a joke, if he wins the primary we are all in deep deep trouble!

Few people can say so much without actually saying anything as Obama can. Amazing that people buy into this constant rhetoric.

I think that obama is the best canidate for the job simply because he understands the need for education, economic oppertunity, and unification among the people of this country. I also beleive the country need someone who is not about business as usual when it comes to the issue of health care especially for the children of our country and the rights of the elderly they need a voice they are losing there homes because some are on a fixed income and have to chose between heating there homes or paying property taxes and no one cares.

A year ago, when this campaign began, I was neutral towards Obama and definitely not pro-Hillary. After following the campaign for nearly a year now, I have come to admire Hillary more than I ever did when she was the first lady. Although she seems to project raw political ambition more than a true desire for public service and has very little to show for her 35 years (as she claims), I see Obama as offering nothing more than a lot of empty rhetoric.

I admire Obama for overcoming the race and gender issues injected by the Clintons (yes 2 of them) and congratulate him on his impressive wins today in differ regions of the country. However, he has to offer more specifics, not just hope, before I can be persuaded. I am not sure if he can win the nomination, but he has to do more than just try to be inspiring.

As for the Republican alternative, the less said the better. It looks like McCain is the nominee. He has a temper and does not hesitate to curse and even use the f-word when he gets upset with those who oppose him. I shudder to think how he would behave with foreign heads of state if he were President. Besides, if elected, he would be the oldest President ever. So, if you want to vote for McCain, make sure you check out the Veep. We might get stuck with him/her.

Where are the great leaders when we need them?

Comment by Jay

loveusa, the Clintons did not inject race into this campaign. It was Obama who did by first bringing in the specter of Martin Luther King Jr and then acting outraged when Clinton mentioned that LBJ had a hand in it too.

No one can deny, however, that Obama carries the black vote across the country — 8:10 blacks vote for him. Whites, however, have no such huge and deep racial line. Even latinos are not so heavily for Clinton.

Comment by Joey of Fl

wake up America! don’t be fooled. Ask any supporter of Obama if he/she can name one just one accomplishment of Barack. This guy is all rhetoric; put him in the White House and that’ll be the beginning of our downfall. I’m an independent and studied the issues and scrutinized the candidates. There’s only one candidate that can save this country from collapsing…….Romney!
The guy has flaws too, but overall, he’s the most qualified.

Jay, where are the great leaders when we need them?

Comment by Brent C

Wow, everyone seems so intent on making Obama out to be nothing but a blanket optimist and I must disagree, Strongly! Speeches themselves are meant only to inspire, like the one above, but when you look at just one of them out of the many and say that he offers no specifics doesn’t really seem to be a fair judgement to make.

Of course the man has the black vote! This guy is the first truely serious contender for the Presidency that isn’t white! If there had only been black presidents throughout history and suddenly a white candidate rose up, wouldn’t you vote for him? Just keep that in perspective.

I find it so very disheartening to see so many people willing to make the next four years indistinguishable from the four prior. So what if he doesn’t lay out his entire plan for the Presidency in every speech, do your research and find out what he is all about!

I’m a Republican and I can see that change is needed, to no longer elect someone to office so they can sit at a desk and vote on issues based solely on the beliefs of the party as a whole. To actually listen to the people they are supposedly representing. This country NEEDS something new, it needs change and hope.

Regardless of party ties, big budget campaigns, celebrity and corporate endorsements……This Country Needs Obama.

Comment by KIT

Didn’t you ever hear that first 1% is Inspiration and the next 99% is Perspiration. This is Obama. After he inspires he will need to come through and all the rhectoric you want to say is not an indication of getting things done. Its all about the doing and less on the what will I do.

He is the most liberal of any democrat and when the conservatives wakeup and see that Obama is not even close to being a moderate they’ll be scared. Republicans are not grabbing the inspired one’s in this country who want change and if they were smart enough they would ban together and show a party that is unified and has family values.

Also after hearing Obama’s speech last night I am even more convinced he is wrong for this country. Notice the slip up on his part about improving schools so they are not crumbling for black children then he paused and added white children. First there is no reason to distinguish between the two (althouhgh his church does) and where are the asians and latinos mentioned? Good reason why the Latinos are voting in numbers against him.

Just be careful America on the wave of change because it may not be the change you want.

Oh a funny comment by a commentator last night - the country wants change so badly that they would vote for Pinocchio if he stood for change and sadly I believe there is a shred of truth to this.

Comment by Leo

Obama, he is simply the best, a country is build by a team effort and Obama is a Team player a visionary, He inspire and build everyone who come to know what he stand for, please people for those who are still sleeping, please wake up and stand for change.

Comment by KIT

One more question why is so many thinking that just because Obama is stating change that you believe him? Change for what? He is a liberal (actually the number 1 liberal in congress) and will vote for liberal views so he would be going to the white house and supporting his liberal viewpoint. What’s the difference between a republican going to the white house and supporting his views. There all the same. He will have as much difficulty maybe more getting his agenda passed.

Plus the fact this man as no experience to back up his claims so we are to take his word for it. Take a chance on America’s future with an individual who has some shaddy individuals supporting him? Isn’t that what we have now? Then what’s the change?

It’s all campiagn rhectortic and this country is voting on an emotional level.

I give him credit for doing well but let’s talk real backgrounds and policy in detail. Would love to see a Democratic FoxNews debate between these two.

Comment by Debbie

Obama uses race to gain his votes.Media ’s bias also plays an important role in his popularity. I will vote for whom I think can lead my country. And Obama is not that person. I am so sick of Fox and CNN for showing only Obama’s side. How much do you get paid?

Comment by Laz

If all American can offer the world in terms of leadership is what we are currently seeing, then I am afraid to say the mighty has fallen. The rhetoric of Obama who is less experienced and the desperation of Hilary Clinton to rule at all cost signals to the world that America is no where closer to leading the world again. Their campaign and what they offer to the American people is more of political ingenuity and pragmatism rather ability to bring the desired miraculous changes. The whole exercise is a game that only the less privilege ones loses. The hope of the common man will still hang on the balance. I want to believe in general principle the American people are not blind to facts, figures and reality, though they may not have a better alternative at this point in time than to choose between two devils.

The nation of America has come a long way and if at the end Obama or Hilary wins, miracle should not be expected rather improvement being made. As for the Republican party, there is no chance of them winning the presidential election this time around. The legacy of Bush will hunt them so long.

I know that if Hillary is elected just say thank you Bill for a job well done in puppetry, she’s not running things if she gets to the White House He is. Just think back when Bill Clinton was Pres. He left our country in debt and a huge one at that? I myself want to see the future of America grow, but to have Hillary in I see the past and not the future that Obama has envisioned. When I think of the Clinton remember his impeachment, Monica Lewinsky, yes he (bill)did did a alright job while he was in Office but he at the end made alot of bad things. So in closing I will say this I like Hillary. but not as Pres. Its just because of who she’ll bring to the party THE PAST.

Comment by Jonathan

One other thing about Hillary Clinton I just don’t get is why when people ask a question she has to dance around the subject that was just asked and not answer it directly.

Comment by R. Adwell

You seem like a nice man Obama, but you are living in la la land. You can’t turn to socialism and expect the country to become better. It will only make it worse. Trust me I used to live in Canada. I came to the United States because it represented the good life. It is really a shame that the people that were born in this country don’t wake up and smell the coffee before it is too late.

Comment by KIT

Actually your memory is innaccurate Clinton didn’t leave the presidentency with this country in debt, it actually occurred during the Bush administration. Thats what the Democrats are running on now how the last 8 years our national debt has rose. America did very well in the mid to late 90’s. The internet boom had alot to do with that. The War has put Bush into debt.

I am not a Hillary supporter but Obama does as much dancing around issues. What is up with his church affiliation? Hasn’t answered that one directly just deflects. He wants to unite but he pledged to his church a didin’t platform. Which one is it?

If he gets to the national election his one big problem is his push to give drivers licenses to illegals. This was pushed overwhelmingly down in NY when Gov Elliot Spitzer tried to enact a law. 70/30.

I feel most democrats are going with Obama becuase they just want to win the white house. They are voting on electability. Voters are getting emotional. We need commonsense to prevail.

Brent,
While I will agree with you that this country needs a change I don’t agree with Obama spreading false promises of “change and hope.” Especially when he does not elaborate on what the changes are going to be and how he intends on pulling them off.

I “hope” everyday that I will win the lottery to “change” my life, but it has not happened. Does not mean that I will give up hope, it just means I need to be realistic!

I am proud that the United States of America would finally have a great President, who would be able to unite United States of America to make it a better place for everyone to live in and finally unite the world, instead of divide it. The present President feels that persons and nations can be can be bombed into submission, regardless of how many lives are lost in the process and how many children are maimed.

Senator Obama,

I continue to prayer for you. I know American would be a better place with you.

Comment by loveusa

OK, folks let’s talk about what kind of “change” you would like to see in the country. Let me list my top five (not in any particular order).

1. An end to the war in Iraq and a foreign policy that is aimed at securing peace with the Islamic world and with all other nations. (No need for an immediate withdrawal of troops but it must become very clear to the Middle Eastern countries that America seeks a new direction and they must come to grips with their own terrorist issues, as in Iraq and now Pakistan.) Reagan projected strength that Carter could not. So can a new President do what GWB has failed to do.

2. Rebuild American military might. A strong defense (rather than offense, the current strategy)which ensures no more terrorist attacks on US soil.

3. Resort American economy to its former greatness - good jobs with good wages - an end to outsouring of jobs simply to cut costs - tax corporations that take American capital abroad to create manufacturing jobs overseas (e.g. in Mexico, India, China, even if it means enacting new legislation). We have lost the manufacturing base and now even the service sector is a mess!

4. A vsionary policy to achieve FULL energy independence in the next 20 years. If NASA could put a man on the moon and get him back safely before the end of the decade (as JFK wanted it), we can surely develop new sources of energy that will ensure independence from Middle East oil.

5. Secure American borders and make it impossible for illegals to enter this country. Put Mexico on alert and demand co-operation, or else an end to NAFTA.

Create a special fund of at least $10 trillion, over a 5 year period, to accomplish these goals. Afterall, we have already spent close to, if not more, than $1 trillion on the Iraq war. The current budget submitted by Bush is a $3 trillion + budget.

Yes, we need address the looming Social Security crisis. The first baby boomers have started retiring this year. (This group is supporting HRC.) Yes, we need health care. But, let the market take care of the latter (Health Care) and let the US government take care of the former with special fund allocations. (Afterall, the government failed to put the SS taxes collected over the years into a special SS fund. That money was spent on other programs.)

If the US economy starts booming, and we provide well paying jobs for the younger generation (this group is supporting Obama - those who are now getting out of college, or have done so since 2000), the SS crisis might just take care of itself.

Definition of Change:

To cause to be different:
To give a completely different form or appearance to; transform

I keep on hearing change for hope, change this or that, what is change really. Change is not a positive or negative word just simply change.

Many people have wanted change including Hitler, Stallon, Mussolini… Its not the word change that should inspire Americans but what that means and how it impacts us all. What change and how drastic will this change be that Obama is campaigning for. Obama appears to be implying (not exactly sure yet because he hasn’t defined in detail his change just rhectoric) a major overhaul in America. How major? how socialistic? We’re all not sure. But many are voting because of change.

His campaign speech last night is a change for hope. We can all agree with alot of his rhectoric, we all want hope and better our lives if possible for us and our children. But the end means to get there is the key. Obama has thrown this trance over the nation that he can change it? how? Once he gets in and pushes his liberal programs most Republicians will fight it based on their conservative value system. They would be called old politics stalling his agenda but in reality they would be sticking up for their core beliefs.

Politics is politics and please don’t be fooled to vote for him because of his rhectoric change, vote for policy and issues. When you see a national debate and if he gets the nomination you’ll then begin to see the backlash to Obama begin by his non-supporters issue by issue.

Because at the end of the day if you just don’t believe in his value system (which is something that should be discussed more based on his integrity and church) and issues you more then likely will not vote that way.

It’s a long way from anointing anyone.

Comment by Jim (MD)

I am amazed by the amount of people who claim to have so much knowledge with regards to which candidate is better suited to lead this country. Yet everyone forgets one large piece of the equation and that is the fact unless either person is able to work with Congress and get them to put aside their bickering differences to get something done we could vote Mickey Mouse into office and it still wouldn’t matter.
Just ask yourself this simple question: Is it not congress that has the powers to draft legislation and determine the budgets and polices for which the President must decide to accept or reject. So if they are not able to work together and the last time I looked they had a lower rating then Bush has now, so who is best equipped to lead this country and to bring unity to our Government?

I have talked and listened to numerous people and have read a number of media articles regarding their decision to support Hillary and have come up with some of those reasons why. These are in no particular order;
1) Because she is a woman and this may be the only time in my life to see a woman President.
2) Because of the Clinton Administration during the nineties.
3) Because Bill Clinton will be there to help her.
4) Because the Clinton name recognition.
5) Because of her experience as First Lady.

So now answer the following using this scenario;
1) Bill Clinton was never President or that she was ever First Lady.
2) She was not named Clinton simply Hillary Rodham.
3) Disregard any allegations of scandals.

1) Would she have even run for the Senate?
2) Would you even know who she was?
3) Would she still have the experience or ability to be President?
4) If the only thing she had done was be a Senator on her own namesake would she still be the best choice?
5) If there was not the war going on and we didn’t have the financial crisis, with only her personal experience would she still be your choice?
After answering these questions and looking at her opponent based on his credentials, would your decision be the same?

Because I have found that other then voting solely on the fact that she is a woman, there is not that much of a difference and some have even changed their minds. So I would like to hear your thoughts.

KIT, the same questions also apply to Clinton. How major? How socialistic? Once we get to the specifics, everyone has to spell out how “change” will be accomplished. Can’t accomplish change by garnishing people’s wages. This is America!

Comment by loveusa

JIM, you have put it nicely. I think, I have subconsciously asked myself the same questions and my answer is in the negative. HRC is driven solely by her ambition and nothing else. She will come short, just like she did with her health care reform in the 1990s. Now, we also have the war on our hand and an economy that is sliding into recession with many longer term structural weakness that need to be addressed.

Comment by KIT

A good amount of your questions could be answered of course for Obama as well.

One question back is why all the past history on Hillary but the blackout of media to Obama.

First you look at issues. If one issue is your hot button you will vote towards that party, next is the candidiates integrity. People call it experience I call it integrity. Hillary non-supporters don’t like her because of the scandelous alleged past. It’s the Clinton backlash. But honestly can we have any explanation on Obama’s church/group affiliation? This is the basis of who he has been for 20 years and who he interacts with and hardly any good explanation. I would like to know because for the same reason anti bush people are arguing he is a neocon right wing christian attacking the world and making decisions based on that what will Obama do upon America being attacked, what is his thoughts on the Kenyan government fighting the takeover of miliant muslims instituting sharia law?

I believe both the democratic candidates haven’t gone to negative because they can’t. Both have dirt on each other but in an general election the gloves are off and if McCain wins the republican nomination it be will a battle.

We can all have a list of things would like to see get done but its usually one issue that stirs you to choose one candidate and most of the time it’s just america liking a candidate for no deeper reason then they speak well and seem nice.

Isn’t it funny that Bush won the election in 2000 because of ethics (after Bill Clinton) and know people can’t stand his ethics and values. Be careful America on why you are choosing the next President because it can be much different then you think 2-3 years from now if the change was what you thought.

Seriously, Im getting fed up with all this political bickering!!!

But thats what this is about, right? no speech will change any humans opinion when it comes down to it. It is the Human instinct to stick with an opinion, unless under dire circumstances.

Personally, I’m leaning towards Obama. Now, if what had some magical “what-if” machine that could tell us what would happen if so-and-so was elected President, then it would probably change some opinions.

However we dont, so I probably cant.

I wont even bother arguing because it probably wont matter to most of you. Ive said my opinion, now Im done

I couldn’t agree more. This applies to all democrats but Obama is implying he is the only candidate that could bring real change? I just wonder why he is the only one and what type of change. At the end of the day he is just another slick politiican who is very liberal. we have seen those before so what makes him different? Now we need to get into his personal background and belief system. And yet no one whats to go there. How interesting.

I hear every candidate mentioning change in their political speeches. I wanted to think back and see how many previous presidential candidates campaigned on the similar promises to change the way thing are done in American politics. I am wondering why none of the media is looking at this and do a public service as they claim to be doing and tell people that in past these presidential candidates campaigned on political change, and when they got elected by fooling people, what kind of changes they accomplished? It is very easy to get people into heard mentality, but very difficult to deliver. The candidates are counting on very short memory of general puiblic about what they pre promissing to get elected.

I know your point but and to be fair I am not a clinton supporter but everyone knows Hillary with all the baggage from years past but Obamabeing fairly new gets a pass about his questionable choice of a church/group and affiliations. The mainstream except of course Fox at times and the internet world has been mentioning it for a year now. It has not been discussed directly to the candidate enough. If this man is to talk with muslim leaders I’d like to know why Obama thinks he can make them change his mind on America. And don’t give me his the anti Bush.

I really think Obama is caught in the corner on this. A year ago it comes out that he may have been muslim his campiagn makes a statement that he never was a muslim. Then changes that statment a few months later to not a practicing muslim.

Why not tell the country himself that at one time he was at a very young age a muslim kid that read the koran and some of his family members were. Explain to America thats how he understands the problem and can change the world. Explain to America how he find Christ by converting to Christianity. Oops thats the problem he can’t stand by the Christian angle either because if you look at his church that opens up a whole other problem. Obama is trying to deflect and limit the amount of attention his back ground has on this.

Poor Hillary has so much baggage herself, look at how many elected democrats are not endorsing her, that if she brings up negative allegations on Obama she is open for just as many. They have kept this campaign relatively clean, notice the type of commericals.

To be honest all candidates on both sides are weak. The primaires are great because everyone is mediocre no clear advantage.

In the end America may suffer with whatever choice is made.

I DIDN’T GET TO HEAR MR OBAMA’S SPEECH LAST NIGHT (SUPER TUESDAY) SO I JUST NOW READ IT AND OH MY HOW POWERFUL! I AM ONE OF THE SENIORS HE TALKS ABOUT THAT WORRIES ABOUT MAKING ENOUGH MONEY TO SUBSIDIZE MY RETIREMENT INCOME TO HELP US KEEP OUR HOME. I’M SO GLAD TO HEAR SOMEBODY OUT THERE THINKS ABOUT HOW DIFFICULT SOME AMERICANS HAVE IT. IF THE OVERPAID CEO’S WOULD JUST SHARE WITH SOME OF US THAT STRUGGLE TO MAKE ENDS MEET. IF THEY ONLY KNEW HOW IT FELT TO LIVE THAT KIND OF LIFE. A $100 WOULD BUY MY MEDICINE FOR THE MONTH AND SOME SPEND THAT ON JUST GOING OUT TO EAT. HOW MUCH DIFFERENT LIFE WOULD BE IF WE ALL HAD TO WALK A MILE IN THE OTHER PERSON’S SHOES.

Kit;
I for one do not look at a person’s religion to be my basis for voting for a candidate, but would you rather have someone who will talk with our enemies around the world rather then threatening them war. I as many would agree that solving your issues in a diplomatic way is much better then using violence as way to get things done. Having said that, how can one solve something diplomatically unless they are willing to talk and let each other express their concerns openly? Our country continuously waves our military superiority in the faces of other nations and that just makes those countries dislike us even more.

Kit;
I think a lot f people use the Muslim issue to use a reason to not vote for him and to try and scare people thinking that he’ll some how turn against us. If we were all to follow our religious beliefs then there would not be an abortion issue or a death penalty issue. There wouldn’t be a race or gender issue as well. Once we are able to overcome these kinds of problems then could we all live together and make living in this world a better place.

I respect your opinion and agree when necessary you use diplomatic means and force when needed. It’s a shame that 1993 World Trade Center was bombed, USS cole in 2000, Kenyan Ambassy bombed etc… so many events happened in the 90’s and we did not use force. The great symbol of america was blown up and lives lost and the country finally said enough. I agree that if we can somehow reach this through diplomacy is great but one who gives in? This war is not about iraq, radicals have been attacking us much longer what do they want beyond us leaving Iraq? Are we willing to give up our freedom in exchanged for what?

Second if Obama thinks he is the man to do this why? what three year senators background does he have to make peace with the muslim world? Does he rely on his knowledge of muslim understanding? If so he has been denying having any connection to the muslim world so then why does that make him experienced? I truly would like the man to explain this. Issues are easy to understand but this is about foreign relations and this man’s temperment to lead the world.

And about religion yes let’s throw religion out but his christian church is not even close to my christian church. Value system is completely different. His church is barely a religion? So in essence I am not bringing up religon but yet a value system of who does he support? I think this is a worthy question to ask based on his campaign of uniting.

Also don’t tell Huckabee that religion doesn’t count. That man made a stand last night with the southern christians.

I would like to know why he makes it sound like only white and black kids go to school in this speech? Its sounds so racist and maybe thats why Latinos or asian do not trust him ? here it is from his speech!

Im Latino and if you wish to elect a man who leaves out the rest of us you are sop wrong ! at least Mccain knows we are here !!!

Kit;
Your answer is that he has made clear that he is willing to talk and listen, something the past administrations have failed to even try without making threats of sanctions or military force. Does anyone in government really know just how these other countries views relate to their own people? And if so why are we so obsessed with converting them to our beliefs and polices. Most of these nations feel offended when we try to push our beliefs on them. Maybe if we were more open to other countries way of life and use those principals here maybe we would understand better and perhaps realize that there are better ways of doing things. Our biggest problem is that the United States tries to police the world and dictate policy to them in place of working together.

Really like the debate here.

I am restating what Obama is saying that he would like to talk. I am for one not necessarily agreeable to begin talks with a nation so rooted in dismantling us. We can trust Iran when what they tell us they are only building nuclear weapons for energy? yeah right I believe them. By the way nut head there was only elected to fix their economy. Instead he has been spending his time building rockets and nuclear power. Plus let’s not forget about Russia in all of this.

Administrations before Bush’s were willing to talk peace but the talks always breakdown, why? because the root of their religion is such that it is fundamental and giving in is against what they believe in. Palastinians will never accept peace unless Israel is gone. How is that possible.

I am not converting them to my beliefs nor do I want to be converted to there’s.

We are not the only nation dealing with this issue. everyone makes it out that the rest of the world has no islamic probelms. Look at England, Denmark, Swedan, France etc.. Most of Europe is already dealing with this problem in their backyard. But of course america always gets blamed.

My point about Obama is why is he the chosen one to fix this problem? His background maybe? then I’d like to hear it from him and yet never do.

Actually if you could can you answer as a supporter other then he will talk but how he will convince them? what’s his experience to make them understand? just curious.

Kit;
Though I have truly enjoyed this debate as well my only point is that people should look at doing things differently and at least try to. Now I am not saying who to vote for or that I support either candidate, I just want people to have a much broader vision and vote with what they believe.
Unfortunately I live In Maryland and I am an Independent and not allowed to vote in primaries. Yes I could register as a democrat or Republican but I choose to remain neutral because I have beliefs that both parties offer and just wish that they could come to together and do what’s right for us.
Now having said that I must leave now and get ready for work so I will say goodnight and wish you well.

Right now I am listening to Obama giving a speech on FOX news. I have been listening to the news pretty much all day because I’m sick in bed. I heard Hilary speak, Romney, Huckabee, and now Obama. Generally, I am a Republican, and agree more with that side of the politicians than I do the left side. But never have I been so appauled by something an American government official said as I am tonight.

Obama has claimed that the war that is going on now was “a war that should have never been authorized.” Even though 9-11 was seven years ago, the pain that was inflicted upon our citizens an our country is still felt. Because of the attack on our country, the greatest country on Earth, the war should have been more than authorized…it should be celebrated!

If you are voting this year, please remember that grave day in September seven years ago and the fear and anger you felt as you saw your country under attack.

How do we talk diplomacy when laws like this still exist in the world.

Comment by Old Dominion State

Nice speech, circa 1984.

Obama: But there is one thing on this February night that we do not need the final results to know. Our time has come. (APPLAUSE) Our time has come. Our movement is real, and change is coming to America.

Jesse Jackson: “Our time has come. Our time has come. Suffering breeds character. Character breeds faith. In the end, faith will not disappoint. Our time has come. Our faith, hope, and dreams will prevail. Our time has come. Weeping has endured for nights, but now joy cometh in the morning. Our time has come. No grave can hold our body down. Our time has come. No lie can live forever. Our time has come. We must leave racial battle ground and come to economic common ground and moral higher ground. America, our time has come. We come from disgrace to amazing grace. Our time has come. Give me your tired, give me your poor, your huddled masses who yearn to breathe free and come November, there will be a change because our time has come.

The speech was pure poetry.

Obama: “We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. (Cheers, applause.)”

June Jordan’s “Poem for South African Women”:
“And who will join this standing up
and the ones who stood without sweet company
will sing and sing
back into the mountains and
if necessary
even under the sea:
we are the ones we have been waiting for.”

Comment by Old Dominion State

It reminded me of a song.

Sen. Obama: “change is coming to America.”

Norman Hutchins (A Move Of God Is On The Way):
“Just hold on, a change is coming,
feel it in the air,
it’s in the atmosphere.”
