Team Hillary Accepts Fox Debate Invite
Clinton communications director Howard Wolfson just announced that the campaign has accepted a Fox News invitation for a one-on-one debate with Barack Obama in Washington DC on February 11 — the day before the so-called Potomac Primary featuring DC, Virginia, and Maryland. The debate would also air locally on the DC Fox affiliate WTTG.
Clinton also accepted invitations for debates from ABC, where the two candidates would appear on This Week on Sunday; from CNN in Ohio on Feb 27th, and from MSNBC in Texas on the 28th. Both states hold important primaries on March 4th — a date the Clinton campaign anticipates could decide the close delegate race.
Wolfson said the party has been clamoring for more head-to-head debates between the two candidates left standing; “voters ought to have the opportunity to see these two candidates compete against each other in a one-on-one setting.”
And he disputed one reporter’s observation that the candidate calling for debates is usually the candidate who’s in trouble — saying that usually happens with a candidate with low name recognition, a problem Sen Clinton obviously doesn’t have.
Senior strategist and Clinton pollster Mark Penn said the ball’s in Obama’s court on the debates. “Up down or sideways, we’ve been willing participants in debates,” he said. “It’s up to the Obama campaign as to whether they will be as the race has narrowed to a choice between Sen Obama and Hilary Clinton.”
Liberal activists in moveon.org and the blogosphere, as well as former candidate John Edwards, scuttled a Democratic debate on Fox earlier this year. Asked by one of those liberal bloggers, Jane Hamsher of FireDogLake, whether accepting the FNC invitation would “legitimize” Fox News, Wolfson pointed out that both Sen Obama and Sen Clinton have appeared multiple times on Fox — and that the offer to rebroadcast the debate to reach more local voters sweetened the deal.

Superb, Clinton has managed to destroy Obama in every debate. Every debate, she comes off as intelligent, forthcoming, and willing to actually discuss her platform in detail. It will be no surprise as she blows Obama away in yet another debate.

Guys make sure you check out the article “The Intoxication of Inspiration” on the blogzine SAVAGE POLITICS (not related to Mike Savage) at http://www.savagepolitics.com. It is awesome……everyone should read it before voting.
Yes, Hillary’s campaign is in trouble, as it should be. She claims all these years of “experience” when all she really has been is (breifly) a very liberal lawyer (remember Whitewater, her ‘lost’ papers, Jennifer Flowers — and all the Little Rock scandals with her and Monica’s boyfriend?!). So really, she won’t ever let you have a glimpse of her secret White House PAPERS she and Bill are hiding out of shame, which would remind you of all the bizarre escapades and the impeachment, etc. — plus many more hidden, secret disasters they can’t possibly let you see — certainly not until after the election.
So, that leaves her with her ‘experience’ as First Lady in Little Rock and Washington — with her impeached husband’s scandalous record — along with her disastrous attempt to destroy our world-leading US healthcare system in her ill-advised quest to socialize it — which she will claim as her own “impressive experience” — as long as no one is allowed to really see ANY written evidence (THE SECRET WHITE HOUSE PAPAERS!) of what really went on there!! Bill solely and absolutely controls WHEN the National Archives can release Hillary’s and his White House papers and communications — but they are SOOOO scandalous that they can’t possibly let you in on them until after Monica’s boyfriend’s wife is elected to give Bill his coveted 3rd term — and that despite his prior empeachment!
Caveat voter!
Aaron is probably setting up Hillary. He makes it so obvious that he hates Hillary. If there is a debate on Fox I can assure you that Obama will get another ” free ride ” while Fox is trying to crash the train into Hillary..
This will not be a ” Fair and Balanced ” debate if it’s on FOX !!
Gerald, did you intend to make a point, or were you just rehashing the same conspiracy theories as every other anti-Hillary hack?
Jay, if Bill and Hill have nothing to hide, just have them release their secret White House papers NOW (not after years of editing), and I’ll be very satisfied that the American people can fairly judge Hillary’s White House “experience” for themselves. Just that simple. No conspiracy theories.
I’m always amazed how scared liberals are of Fox News. People who only dare speak from a platform that doesn’t challenge their views are of questionable intelligence. If neither Hillary nor Obama is good enough on their feet to debate at a Fox debate, how can we possible think that they will hold up at on the international stage where nations the world over question US policy. Grow up liberals and quit whining.
The women I’ve talked to who are voting for Clinton said they are doing so because she’s a woman and not on the issues. All the Republicans want to keep us in Iraq forever and only serve the rich which is more of the same. Obama is the only one not giving in to special interests and says on his website how he will help the little guy which is most of us just trying to get by from week to week. Go Obama.
Please tell me if the following is LEGAL: A man runs for the office of President of the United States of America who:
1) Refuses to say the pledge of allegience to the country he wants to be elected head of state.
2) Refuses to salute the flag.
3) Refuses to use Bible and insists on use of Koran to be sworn in.
4) Belongs to church which all members must be black to join and you must support Africa.
To even consider such a man is a mockery after the vehement treatment from MUSLIMS.
What IS wrong with Americans? Remember: ‘the East will take over the USA without firing
a single shot’ - and what better place to take over than to have one or their own in the WhiteHouse?
Oh yes- we’re in for CHANGE alright. We need EXPERIENCE and LOYALTY. We need HILLARY.
Annie Hall. I’ve read all that slander you speak of in emails. Hopefully you’re not that gullible and will check his record out and let it speak for itself.
Do you really want ‘Zipper Bill” roaming the intern halls in the White House… gee where did I place that cigar ??
Dan, how do you explain Obama giving in to nuclear power companies and making his energy bill softer in Illinois, then repaying them by allowing them strategy positions on his campaign team?
Isn’t that giving in to special interests?
Gerald, that is a conspiracy theory. You say they won’t release the papers because “they have something to hide”. It doesn’t get more conspiracy theory than that. Or, in reality, they just want the information private. The rest is you interjecting your opinion into facts,
There probably is a better candidate out there. Al Gore should have run.
Al Gore would have been painted the same was as Clinton by Obama.
I am from Illinois and Obama needs– Economic/Business classes. EXPERIENCE and EDUCATION would go a long way. He is in no way ready to lead our country that is already experiencing a recession.
Fox should not be hosting any debates. They clearly show bias for one candiate over another and we are suppose to trust them to ask life altering questions and demand straight forward answers? That’s laughable, I can see Obama now looking for his choir suit!
Southern girl, I believe Hillary can prove herself regardless of Fox News’ bias. Every debate has shown her to be the leader she is. The only way Obama can win is on the stump, with speeches prepared. He knows that, which is why he’s afraid of these debates.
I would hope they will handling it in unbias way, no like CNN and MSNBC horrible bias view.
CNN has been running with ratings game for a week now. Sad fact. The product advertised on these networks should be the boycott.
Remember, women have great memories and we will hold you responsible for biased reporting! The MSM has really tried to influence this election just as they did with the others and I hope Hillary wins big so the media and all the pundits will have egg on their faces tomorrow.
Hillary voter can see this happen once this election is over.
To Annie Hall get your facts right before you Blog Please This has all been put out there by the devious Clinton Clan and there are people to Blind to see this….Voteing for Hillary will get you John McCain that is a fact…
Chris, no that is not a fact. That is your opinion. Ironically, you chastise someone else for “getting facts right”, then throw your opinion in and call it fact. Talk about hypocritical.
Has Obama agreed to the debate? This should be interesting. I wish Fox would let the voters pose ALL the questions to the candidates. I want to see a fair debate !
The bigotry against Obama is disgusting, but it’s great to see far more people defending him and calling out the racists and bigots for the terrible people they are…..YES WE CAN
Clearly, from reading all of these various blogs, facts don’t matter much. Only opinion and rumor. I am truly starting to wonder about the collective intelligence of the public. Both sides seem to get facts all twisted up and spout it to whomever will read it.
I’m for Hillary, I look forward to watching her debate Obama again (and hopefully again and again). I’m not going to say nasty things about Obama, but I truly think he’s going to be in over his head. Forget all of the catch phrases, lets hear specifics. I don’t want to learn about Obama by watching him “rally” to a bunch of people glassy eyed and feverish caught up in his message of change (scary). I want to learn about him by hearing his (hopefully detailed) answers to direct, specific questions. I don’t want to watch someone else speak for him while he puts his fingers up to his mouth (so annoying). I don’t want to rely on the biased media to tell me what he’s about. I don’t want to learn about him from these blogs. It probably won’t change my mind in the end, but if he ends up the nominee, these are things I’ll need to know because the republicans will be grinding him into the mud.
Yes we can? Yes we can …what? I don’t want to know what “we” can do, I want to know what HE can do. How is he going to change things? Reaching across the aisle? (another catch phrase) He can’t even be united in his own party. How will he ever work with republicans? These are answers I’d like to hear in a debate.
Chris, questioning Obama does not make you a racist or a bigoted person. In this country, you’re allowed to question any politician’s credentials, regardless of their race.
Hillary, watch your backside. Bill OReilly is the only one I trust to be fair and balanced. I think a debate could be informative, if the Obama people would watch and pay attention. The last undecided democratic group that decided to vote for Obama had no idea where he stands on any issues or why they where voting for him. I personally do not want those people choosing my president. Good Luck Hillary! There is no doubt you can take him in a debate.
There is no doubt that Hillary will show Obama, once again, who the real leader of this country should be!
Obama is being the declared winner in Georgia.
Obama is being declared the winner in Georgia.
Good.
Can you please ask her about:
- Whitewater
- How she turned a 100,000 profit on mere thousands in one day.
- About Filegate and Vince Foster
- Travelgate
- Why did she steal 26K in White House furnishings?
- Why was she complicit in lying with Bill on all his affairs?
- What really happened to Ron Brown?
- Why will she not seek to expedite the process of releasing the information on documents stolen from the National Archives by Sandy Berger?
- Does she stand for amnesty?
- Will she do anything to curb sanctuary cities?
Those are fair questions.
Carl, they were cleared in Whitewater, ask her, Filegate and Vince Foster are conspiracy theories, Travelgate is a joke, she didn’t steal a thing, she didn’t know about his affairs, he died, she isn’t required to release any documents, no she doesn’t, she doesn’t agree with them.
Done.

The issue here is that we need to have Obama out there more than ever before. We need less debate and more time to campaign. Time is running out.. . This is a waste of time. I think this is a trick to keep Obama away from the voters. We all know than one debate a week requires two days of preparation and that means that Obama will have no more time for campaign.
The fact is that the more voters got a chance to see Obama campaigning and firing up the crowd, the more votes he tends to get.
Please do not fall for that — this is just another way to derail Obama off this message and to suppress this momentum
Response:
Whether there needs to be more debates between Sen. Obama and Sen. Clinton before the next primaries.
First, personally, I do not believe more debates are needed at this point. Both senators have participated in almost 20 debates, some debates with republicans too. They have stood next to each other at the podium, sat at a desk in the format of a roundtable discussion and dealt with rules such as 30 second answers, rebuttals, etc… Plus, the questions that are being asked during the debate are absolutely ridiculous! “What do you think about Clinton being called the “first black president?” “What are your weaknesses?” There were maybe 4 questions about global warming and whole lists of topics that were left out, so what is the point? It turns into a circus and the only people who really benefit are the advertisers and television networks.
Second, I find it very telling that Clinton would like a debate on Fox! Seriously? It is apparent that she needs some free advertisement since her campaign went over their spending budget. The perfect example of the arrogance of the Clintons, she did not financially prepare or expect that the election would go pass Feb. Also, her special interest groups and lobbyists financial donors are tired of shelling out money to a campaign that is not as promising as once expected. How do we trust Clinton to run a country when her campaign is overbudget—even WITH these special interest group donating?
Third, this request just further distinguishes Clinton’s governing style and Obama’s belief that governing is a joint relationship with the people, where we work together in meeting our goals and the people hold government accountable for their actions. Obama understands that the best way to reach voters and discuss the issues is to actually go into their communities, talk with them, share ideas, answer questions and find out what is THEIR vision for the country. This is the best way to reach voters. This also shows that Obama’s first interest is the PEOPLE.
Clinton’s request for more debates demonstrates two things. First, she is out for self. Voters do not take away very much from debates. It is a poor format for really getting to the heart of the candidate, their stance and record because the debate rules and constraints make it impossible, especially for a candidate like Obama. He has to constantly make a decision to either use the time allotted, in order to answer a question describing his stance, beliefs and policy recommendations on certain issues or use that time to constantly correct Clinton’s distortions and lies about him. Clinton should be more concerned about getting out and actually meeting voters, instead of participating in this corporate media circus of debates that are not only counterproductive for the voters, as well as, boring and contrive.
Clinton knows she can only connect to her demographic of voters, but knows Obama has a gift and a better ability to transcend demographics and reach all types of people, if given the opportunity to see, feel and touch the voters in their communities.
NO MORE DEBATES!!! Lets TURN THE PAGE!!
