Huckabee Hits Romney as “Arrogant and Presumptuous”

Macon, GA-

“Arrogant and presumptuous ” are the words Mike Huckabee used in describing Mitt Romney today. Why? Huckabee described his GOP rival in these terms after hearing reports that Romney had called for Huck to drop out of the race, because his campaign presence was helping John McCain, by playing the spoiler.

” How presumptuous and arrogant must a man be to assume that if I did drop out of the race the people who voted for me, would vote for him,” Huckabee said to a loud crowd of 800 in Macon, GA.”  So I’ve got a suggestion, Mr.Romney, rather than me drop out, why don’t you give it up, and go back to Boston!

Producer Shush Walshe reports on Romney’s response to Huckabee attack:

“I don’t have any particular reaction to that; it sounds a little extreme, I think at this stage. He is a fine person. I would never suggest anyone get out of the race that their own decision.”

Romney says Huckabee is extreme?! I think promoting a health care program that forces citizens to buy insurance is extreme. Romney doesn’t

I think promising Federal dollars to return jobs to Michigan is extreme. Romney doesn’t

I think supporting a woman’s decision to kill her baby is extreme. Romney doesn’t

I think believing same-sex marriage is extreme. Romney doesn’t

Skip, you are a little confused …

I watched Mitt on tv as they showed him this clip and he said that what Huckabee was saying he said was a little extreme. He has never said that. A lot of his supporters say it but Mitt only said that in essence voting for Huckabee is a vote for McCain because Romney is the next closest to him in polls and Huckabee doesn’t have wide enough appeal to take McCain over.

Re. health care. Mitt’s plan in Massachusetts was AMAZING. who do you think suffers when people don’t have health insurance? They get sick and go to the hospital, then can’t afford to pay their bills so what happens? The hospitals are still required to treat them. Then the people either #1 get financial assistance form the hospital, or #2 declare bankruptcy and the hospital still eats the cost. Then what happens? The hospitals raise their rates to PAYING customers to cover the cost of the welfare treatments they just gave. So that means that the people who are RESPONSIBLE and PAY for insurance have HIGHER rates because of the schmucks that chose not to pay a few hundred a month for insurance. Also, he only penalizes people who can afford to buy insurance but choose not to. How is this different than car insurance? If you do not have liability car insurance you can get fined and get your license supsended because it can cause harm to other drivers that you can’t pay for. Health insurance is the same thing. If you don’t have it you harm the medical community, and everyone else who has to pay for your irresponsibility.

Jobs in Michigan … that is actually a huge issue. They have a high and GROWING unemployment rate which in turn is affecting housing prices, foreclosures, etc. in essence they are having a huge recession which is negatively impacting a lot of people. Who WOULDN’T try to step in and help? If the COUNTRY as a whole was having a huge recession wouldn’t you want the president to step in and do something to provide jobs, etc.? Isn’t that what everyone is wanitng Bush to do right now? Why is it different if it is one state?

Romney is pro-life and always has been for himself. However, he had a sister-in-law die from getting an illegal abortion and so when he governed massachusetts he was ok with leaving the abortion laws in place, especially since he campaigned that he would not go in and re-write all of their laws as governer. Once he started researching stem cell research in depth he realized that allowing abortions opens up a whole new opportunity to do really horrible things so he has taken a firm pro-life stance since then.

As far as I can tell, Romney is pro gay rights in the sense of not persecuting them or discriminating against them. shouldn’t we have that respect for ALL people? How is this a bad thing? I have NOT heard him say he is for gay marriage (but I could be wrong).

You’re weird. Mitt’s stance on these issues is impressive. Every decision he has made is well thought out and he believes is for the best of the country.

Here’s the ugly truth about McCain’s record:
-IMMIGRATION: he wrote the bill granting amnesty to illegal immigrants (co-sponsored by Ted Kennedy)
-SOCIAL SECURITY: he voted to give your social security money to illegal immigrants
-TAXES: he voted against the Bush tax cuts multiple times (he has since flip-flopped and has campaigned as a lifelong tax-cutter)
-RHETORIC: he routinely engages in Democratic class warfare against big companies in America, particularly the “evil” drug companies who research cures to debilitating diseases for a profit
-ECONOMY: as recently as December 2007 he admitted “he does not know the economy very well” and needed to get better at it
-1ST AMENDMENT: he wrote the McCain-Feingold campaign finance bill that was declared to be an unconstitutional infringement of the 1st Amendment (co-sponsored by ultra-liberal Democrat Russ Feingold)
-2ND AMENDMENT: he was called the “worst 2nd amendment candidate” by the president of the NRA
-EQUAL PROTECTION: lifelong supporter of affirmative action
-ENERGY TAX: wrote a bill (co-sponsored by his buddy Lieberman) imposing a massive tax on energy which, according to the Department of Energy, would drastically raise the price of gasoline and put 300,000 Americans out of work
-GLOBAL WARMING: supports radical global warming legislation which involved him voting with every Democrat; think only America is responsible to take action, not other superpowers
-JUDGES: he joined forces with Democrats (Gang of 14) to block the Senate Republican’s attempt to confirm conservative, strict constructionist judges; also said Alito was too conservative for his liking
-WAR ON TERROR: fought with Hillary Clinton to demand that terrorists be given a full American trial
-GAY MARRIAGE: he joined liberals to fight against a federal marriage amendment supporting the institution of traditional marriage
-CHRISTIANS: campaigning in 2000, he famously described Christian leaders as “agents of intolerance”
-PRO-LIFE: he filed an amicus brief against pro-life advocates in Wisconsin
-BI-PARTISANSHIP: he met with leading Democrats in 2004 to discuss the possibility of being John Kerry’s Vice-President; publicly considered leaving the Republican Party in 2001 after he lost the primary
-INTELLECT: finished 894 out of 899 in his class in the Naval Academy.
-PROFESSIONAL ETHICS: ringleader of the infamous Keating 5 ethical scandal which cost US tax payers $160 billion (Google it)
-PERSONAL ETHICS: McCain cheated on his first wife after she had a severe accident that left her partially disabled. He then divorced her and married his multi-millionaire mistress, whose daddy bought McCain a spot in the Congress

I am really tired of the media and Romney and the talk show hosts all saying that a vote for Huckabee is a vote for McCain, a wasted vote, etc. Romney is a phoney, and a vote for him is a vote against the Republican party winning the White House. His defense of his lies about marching with MLK and his father marching with MLK sounded exactly like Bill Clinton’s redefining of the word “is”. If Romney were running against a Democrat, that video clip would be aired on commercials, and it alone would lose him the race. The Superbowl showed us that underdogs can win. Vote with your head and your heart - vote Huckabee.

Huckabee is winning in ONE STATE: Arkansas. If this guy can’t even win South Carolina, it’s pretty telling that his candidacy is a dud. He is a witty speaker, but he doesn’t seem to take complex problems with enough seriousness. He has displayed an unsettling degree of ignorance about basic foreign policy matters. I like his social conservatism, but his understanding of economics is premised on a lot of cutesy rhetoric and pandering rather than conservative, open market principles. He seriously thinks we can get out of recession by having the government build more roads. That’s FDR, New Deal economic, not free market, conservative economics. While he does display Christian principles in many of his positions, his unyielding support of the CONFEDERATE FLAG in South Carolina exposes him for the hypocrite and panderer that lies beneath.

Bottom line- If this guy (1) finishes a distant 4th in Florida, (2) can’t even win southern states and (3) is ahead in the polls in only his home state, he is effectively a candidate who cannot win.

Voting for Huck, ironically, amounts to a vote for liberal McCain, who was quoted as saying last month “he didn’t have a strong passion for social issues.”

I watched the special report with Bret Baier and he asked Romney directly about asking Huckaberry to get out, and Romney said Huckster was a good man and he obviously could do what ever he wanted too.
I think the Huckster is trying to make Mitt look bad with this BS and Ed Rollins is an ASS!

CNN, MSNBC and FOX all have lies about Huckabee’s views on the issues on thier political summary webpages. Go to MikeHuckabee.com and click issues to see what he really says.

On immigration Huckabee’s plan is NOT amnesty - he OPPOSED the Bush plan. Huckabee’s plan is to build the fence and then provide all illegal immigrants a 120-day window to register with the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services and leave the country. Those who register and return to their home country will face no penalty if they later apply to immigrate or visit; those who do not return home will be, when caught, barred from future reentry for a period of 10 years. Those who leave this country and apply to return from their home country would go to the back of the line.

This plan will work - the Mexican illegal immigrants will go back to Mexico on their own, the way they got here in the first place (not transported with tax dollars, as Romney’s plan proposes) and when they return to the USA legally it will be with the dignity that every human should have, and in the numbers that make sense for our county’s economy.

The Huckanomics article on MikeHuckabee.com is brilliant especially after the groundwork is laid. Alan Greenspan supports the logic behind the FairTax, and he should know a little about US economics.

Huckabee is a projector. He is a self righteous and a prideful man. He should drop out and endorse Romney who has won 4 states. Huckabee had 5% of the vote in the recent Maine caucuses. He was last place.

Huckabee will be TAG as a spoiler for the republican presidential election. Don’t bother asking huckster’s supporter to join Vote Mitt Romney! Just keep pointing out the facts about huckster and McCain. Whoever is undecided will Vote base on Facts and belief of the core principles of true republican conservatives. Vote Mitt Romney on Super Tuesday!!!

Comment by Fiscal Conservative

I have to commend the job Romney’s people have done to sell him to the hard line neoconservatives. They are so rabid for him, it’s actually funny. Let’s get this straight: there are not any pure traditional conservatives on the republican ballot. Romney probably has the strongest social conservative views. McCain, contrary to the smears, is the strongest fiscal conservative of the major candidates. Huckabee probably sits between both of them on the fiscal and social spectrum.

I’m voting for Ron Paul, and that’s mainly because I’d like to see a REAL fiscal conservative some day in the future. I would have no problem voting for McCain against either democrat nominee. Romney’s views on health care are not conservative in the slightest and, along with Bush’s ridiculous drug program, bankrupt this country.

DAN:
If Thompson had gotten out of the race sooner, Huckabee would have taken South Carolina easily. Thompson even said he stayed in to help McCain (and I am sure McCain will return the favor if he wins the White House). Huckabee has gotten a tremendous amount of traction when you consider the fact the he is running with 1/10 the budget of the other candidates, and the rich conservative establishment hates him because they know he won’t use tax money to boost their businesses the way Romney has vowed to do.

Huckabee strongly supports federalism - which is, after all, constitutional. And, if you were a Southerner, you would understand that to most Southerners, the confederate flag is NOT a symbol of racism; it is a symbol of states’ rights, which is what the war was really fought over. So, to folks in South Carolina, this WAS a free speech issue. Huckabee has never been accused of racism - he worked to desegregate congregations in Arkansas before he went into politics.

You must be very young. All of your arguments against Huckabee - like not taking things seriously enough because he is congenial and not winning enough early on - were also made of Ronald Reagan.

Being one day behind on current events when he was campaigning non-stop without even sleeping at night doe not constitute a total lack of knowledge of foreign policy. Have you seen the interviews with him? He is really sharp.

The fact is, Romney cannot win against Hillary or Obama and if he did he might end up being more liberal than they are, depending upon what he thinks would get him re-elected. Huckabee can easily win against either and is a true conservative: socially, economically and on foreign policy issues.

Comment by Lynda

To Ron Paul Supporters:
Ron Paul is an honorable man with a lot of great ideas. His problem though, is that he is not willing to work with people to get what he wants done one step at a time. He has shown in congress that if a bill comes up that would change the system to 90% closer to what he wants, he will vote against it because it was not 100%.

Good ideas only make things better if they can get passed and implemented. I challenge you to look at Mike Huckabee’s website. I think you will find that his views on the issues are a lot closer to Ron Paul’s than what you have been led to believe. Read his article on Hucknomics. and read the FairTax. It is a big step in the right direction. Let’s help make government smaller even if we have to do it one step at a time.

All of the other candidates shun Ron Paul, but if you watch how Mike Huckabee treats Ron Paul and his ideas, I think you will see a different dynamic. If Mike is elected, Ron will likely have a seat at the table.

Comment by Ken

Huckabee is finished - Super Tuesday will make that clear (well not to Huckabee as he has an agenda).

I believe Huckabee has worked out a deal with McCain (can we say VP). If Huckabee is such as conservative why does he constantly kiss-up to McCain??? Because as mentioned above he has an agenda, that being to pull as much of the Christian social conservative vote away from Romney to help McCain.

Many of Huckabee’s supporters are moving over to Mitt. A very high percentage of Fred Thompson’s supporters have or are moving over. You can see this by how much Mitt Romney has moved up in the polls in several southern States. Mitt was taken first now in 4 States - Huckabee has only taken first in 1 State. That 1 state had the highest percentage of evangelicals according to poll data (this is why Huck won). Huckabee cannot win with the evangelical vote only and with many evangelicals moving over to Romney he has no hope to win. But he stays in the game simply for his personal vendetta against Mormons and to help secure his VP position with McCain.

I hope when the day comes that Mike Huckabee announces his acceptance to be McCain’s VP that he is called out. This would be confirmation that he was never a conservative to begin with and that he lied to his supporters regarding his conservative claims.

Wake up people, get over your bias. Let’s rally behind Mitt Romney and save the conservative movement. Mike Huckabee is a likable guy but he will never become the Republican candidate. That is why a vote for Huckabee is clearly a vote for McCain. If you want a liberal than just save your vote for Hillary or Obama … :(

Vote for Mitt Romney!!! Mitt has my vote and full support.

Comment by Fiscal Conservative

I weep for the party when “Rally behind Mitt Romney to save the conservative movement” becomes the battle cry. It’s a scam, people. Romney doesn’t have any better conservative credentials than McCain on any issue other than immigration. And he’s hardened that view up to make it nationally appealing just like McCain has. There is no conservative movement in the party any more. It was hijacked by neoconservative, “compassionate” conservatives a long time ago. Mitt Romney is Mr. Big Government, but the “conservative” talkers don’t care about that. The tenants of the neoconservative faith don’t require a smaller government, just lip service to it. Look at what the Republican congress and Republican president gave us. HUGE government growth, including in entitlement programs. In the words of Ash, “It’s a trick. Get an axe.”

From what I’ve learned about MIKE HUCKABEE, I would NEVER VOTE FOR HIM!

Many would question whether Mike Huckabee is a true conservative; I would question whether he is even a true CHRISTIAN! For an ex-Baptist preacher, the man sure has a potty mouth! Re: where to put the flag pole if anyone disagreed with his position on the Confederate flag, and also considering the risqué music/song lyrics used by Huckabee and his band, Capitol Offense. Imagine the pastor of your church singing H*y Tonk Woman or Devil With a Blue Dress (song lyrics would be offensive to many) (www.irdial.com/blogdial/?p=909).

Huckabee has a history of corruption and lack of ethics and is one of two republican presidential candidates on the list of TOP TEN MOST CORRUPT POLITICIANS of 2007 (www.judicialwatch.org). One example, after being married for 30 years, Huckabee set up a WEDDING registry at Target for him and his wife to receive gifts for their house. The wedding registry was a way to avoid ethics laws prohibiting gifts to politicians.

Huckabee has also spawned a son who stoned and hung a dog to death. David was fired as a Boy Scout’s counselor for disobeying the “Be Kind” rule. Daddy Huck hindered the police investigation of David for animal cruelty. This should bring pause to anyone thinking of voting for Huckabee. Family animal cruelty issues often times indicate other problems as well.

His personality is described at Wikipedia as petty, thin-skinned, self-righteous, and somewhat vindictive (www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Huckabee).

He could never win in a general election. Imagine his Confederate flag flap being played over and over in the Dem’s TV ads. And he wants to amend the Constitution to ban abortions and gay marriage. This would alienate too many moderates and independents. If we vote for Huckabee we WILL BE WASTING OUR VOTE!

We need FIX IT MITT ! Please vote for the wise choice!

Comment by sheryl

I think Huckabee should stay in because I think he takes votes away from McCain.

Anyway, Huckabee’s obession with Mitt is almost pathological in a lot of ways. Plus he’s using this “issue” as a wedge issue for his Super Tuesday bid.

In Iowa the wedge issue was that he was a real Christen (hint: don’t vote for the Mormon cult guy and oh yeah, he’s really rich….so he sucks for that reason too).

In South Carolina, the wedge issue was the Confederate Flag (hint: don’t vote for McCain because unlike him, I’m siding with you and your racist inclinations as long as I get your vote).

Now since there are too many states on Super Tuesday to call up any one “pet” wedge issue, he’s using indignation to rile up his people.

Of course this is the same guy that stood on stage with Mitt at a recent debate and told him to save his sons inheritance and to get out of the race. He was trying to be funny, but it fell flat and revealed more of Huck’s psychosis with Romney.

Again Huckabee has a pathological dislike for Romney that is almost childish. Evidenced most clearly when Huckabee made an attack ad against Romney and then told a room full of reporters that he’s decided not to air it and then proceeded to air the attack ad to the room.

Huckabee seems preachy
Romney does seem arrogant
McCain seems like a liberal Democrat

Not much of a choice for the average American wanting to vote for a Republican

HUCKABEE -

Are you running to win the republican nomination or to beat Mitt Romney? Which one is it? Last time I checked you are also running against John McCain (and Ron Paul I guess… no not really but oh well…). Most people run to win 1st place, but I guess you are more than happy to win second and go back home to Arkansas…..

Comment by Shelby

Sheryl…..I think you’re right about Huck’s pathological dislike for Romney. Huckabee wants to be a star to the point of desperation (I read somewhere that Huck hoped his band Capitol Offense could one day open for a Led Zeppelin concert). Huck is actually the very arrogant man with an inflated ego needing mass amounts of adoring fans. He’s gonna pout like a two-year old when he doesn’t get the nomination!

Good analysis Sheryl

Ive wondered about Hucks mancrush on McCain. Makes no political sense. He should be going after McCain if he intends to actually win the nomination. Since it is obvious he isn’t seriously contending for the lead, why stay in? If McCain gives him the vp spot thats too obvious and the right will go nuts, and has no chance of winning the general election. If he later gives him a cabiniet or other high level place the same thing happens and he will be to big a liability to carry around.

Any ideas?

LOL…..I don’t know what’s worse Huckabee as president or VP or him opening up for one the greatest living rock bands that this world has ever known. Though there is nothing wrong with dreaming big that’s for sure, so I applaud for Huckabee on that level.

BTW, this is a very funny video: Huckabee….ah!……Huckabee….ah!…..Huckabee….ah…don’t say that name……very funny stuff!!

Here it goes again and Mike Huckabee supporters need to get it strait. Mitt Romney has almost the same position as Mike Huckabee on issues (read Value Voters Guide). I have studied the position of each of the presidental candidates, something we should all do. Mitt Romney was pro-choice and then became pro life, because of the influence of many good pro-life people in Mass. who sought him out and educated him. He worked in Massachusetts as Governor with the pro life community and is well thought of there. For more information go to christiannewswire.com see
“Abortion Issue is Behind the Flip Flop Story of Mitt Romney”

I respect both Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney for the work they have done for the pro-life community.

I am very worried about Mc Cains support of Embroyonic Stem Cell Research using taxpayer monies. Embroyonic Stem Cell Reasearch is a very serious issue and everyone should be alarmed about it if your are pro life. As President Mc Cain will push this agenda.
Hate speech will not help us save life only unitity. Be kind to each other and set an example of a shared spirit of love for the unborn children.

Comment by sheryl

I think Huckabee might be vying for a VP consideration, but I think what’s also in play is what Shelby writes about and that’s Huck’s ego.

From what I’ve read, Huckabee really doesn’t have a job to get back to as he earns his money giving speeches for $25,000 a piece. And I seem to recall that he was still “working” while campaigning so why not stay in the race if it isn’t interfering with your day job. BTW, his theory hold true with Chuck Norris as well ;)

Plus, I would think staying in the campaign is good for business because of all the free media Huckabee enjoys with his antics e.g. Jamie Lynn Spears pregnancy advice, his squirrel recipes, his eating fried chicken etiquette tips for Mitt, Sean Hannity payola conspiracies…..all of it!

The guy has definitely been colorful on the campaign trail.

Comment by sheryl

Darlene makes a good point insomuch that why Huckabee would be aligning himself with McCain who has a very different view about embroyonic stem cell research, a position McCain still holds today.

And this is Huckabee’s strongest conviction too. In fact, when Huckabee was on Meet the Press he gave one of the most convincing and heartfelt arguments for the pro-life cause…I was very moved by it.

Comment by dan

I just have to say that Mitt’s inability to fund raise at the level of other candidates should have you worried. Take out his personal contributions to the campaign and look at what he has been getting, its sad. It shows poor organization and leadership. It shows supporters who will only go to the mat for him after he has secured victory.

I’m a democrat, and even I wish they had found better republican candidates. There is no shining star of conservatism to take the nomination and go on to debate with the unabashedly liberal flag bearer that will win the democrat’s nomination. Maybe a real conservative would have been crushed as they were compared to the lie people were sold with Bush’s conservativeness. Mitt looks like more giant government growth, McCain is a democrat (I am almost positive), and who cares what Huckabee is, as he is too far behind already. Everyone republican I know was excited when Thompson entered, but it was mostly just relief at seeing someone who could convincingly play a republican on tv.

I guess better luck next time guys. I know you have to support someone, and defend against their obvious failings, let alone those of conservatism in the general election. Next time I hope you guys do a more thorough candidate search.

Comment by Richard

McCain and Huckabee’s hatred of Mitt Romney is unrestrained. Both come across so smug and arrogant whenever their records are exposed for the liberals they really are.Mccain’s temper tantrums and lack of self-control are legendary.Huckabee’s self-righteous hypocrisy is unseemly for someone who professes to be Christian, much less a minister.

Huckabee seems very confused. He is out there running against Romney when clearly McCain is the front runner for the GOP Nominee. What is up with that? There is just no way I can trust this guy. A vote for Huckabee is a vote for McCain. McCain will loss the Presidential Election. Hillary or Obama will be a better choice than McCain. McCain will never be president, hence Huckabee will never be VP. Huckabee was on Morning Joe with his bodyguard Noris defending McCain and attacking Romney. Now what makes you think he is running for President when he is out there telling everyone to vote for McCain? Huckabee you make me puke!

Comment by Arkansas

Huckabee is endorsing McCain for President. He says go out there and vote for McCain so I can be the VP. He is begging for everyone to vote for McCain because he needs a job in the White House.

Comment by Trace, Ohio

Any amount of $ McCain spends is simply supporting the Democrat nominee. He cannot beat Obama and he cannot beat Hillary in the general. He sounds like a blubbering idiot in the debates and has ZERO chance of winning without the support of the republican base. I am still amazed at the idea of anyone supporting someone who is so stubborn…with regard to the war, the false statements he issed regarding Romney’s “timetable” and his refusal to answer the illegal immigration questions. He will not answer that question with “straight talk” because he fully intends to carry on with HIS bill he STRONGLY believes in to grant amnesty to illegals…only now he’s decided he’ll “secure the borders first”. How can you differentiate between “illegals” and “criminals”? Definition of illegal is “unlawful”. ALL…EVERY SINGLE ONE of them are criminals and have ALL commited a “crime” by coming here. There is a long line of honest people waiting to become citizens and the “line-jumpers” are going to be given the greatest gift of American citizenship simply by breaking the law and paying a fine…this is SO UNFAIR to those trying to do it the right way. I saw his first ad on television last night here in Ohio (our primary is not until March 4). His campaign managers must not read the blog because his message is “foot soldier in the Reagan revolution” speech…AGAIN and states that he is the only “true conservative”…Uugghhh! I am already sick of this guy. Huckabee would be great, but needs to step aside at this point. The people harping on Romney for spending his own money need to take a step back and listen to what they are saying. He is not trying to BUY this election…he loves this country enough to invest in it even when he is not the “front-runner”. You can spin it however you want, but those of you who bash him for spending his money on something he believes in are nothing more than JEALOUS of the fact that he has it to spend (i.e., Huckabee). I am not rich, but I will not disapprove of him simply because he has money. McCain thinks there is something wrong with making a profit…could the reason be that he doesn’t know how to do that?!?! McCain cannot fix our economy, he cannot unite our country and certainly cannot unite the Republican party when he is not a part of it!

McCain’s Sidekick Huck the Spoiler, pro-living Constitution (shame on you Huck), pro-ILLEGAL immigrants gaining amnesty, needs to watch a few more Barney Fife reruns to get his, aw shucks, I’m a minister, (so why the blackout on your sermons Huck?), I’m the real conservative, downpat. This guy is such a fraud, and has let power control his brain. Huckleberry is only staying in for one reason, to see that McCain is on the November ballot. He’s using a folksy, southern preacher approach on unsuspecting good people from the South to his gain - not realizing they’ve been Huckabeed. Guess to Huck, the end justify’s the means and dam* those pesky truths.
He’s definitely studied to a tee, Andy Griffith’s chilling Lonesome Rhodes character in “A Face in the Crowd”, a small-town yokel turned national media celebrity turned egotistical Frankenstein’s monster.
Hope Huck invest in a good walking stick. He’s gonna need it as soon as the media and McCain dispose of him. & Huck, you must know you’ve destroyed any chances of a future through the Republican Party — we will remember, Huck the Spoiler –you need to have some quick discussion with Ross Perot to see how he’s feeling about the consequences of his actions in getting Billy Clinton into the White House. Yes, he was Ross the Spoiler — but at least now he’s trying to make up for it — he’s supporting the only real conservative in the race — Mitt Romney.

Huckabee is running against Romney for the evangelical vote and that is it. McCain has never appealed to that group due to his refusal to say that the federal government should weigh in on abortion. He is against Roe, but says that the issue should belong to the states and not the fed. Ditto for gay marriage. Huckabee has parallel issues with Romney on those two big Christian issues, so he’s attacking him. He can’t beat either candidate on fiscal record, so he’s going for what he can win. If he could pull the evangelical vote together, he would be running right up there. Romney would lose votes but keep the hard line neocon vote. Huckabee would get the religious right, and McCain would get the parts of the party that felt alienated. You’d have a fairly close three way race going into the convention where ANYTHING could happen.

I don’t think he can pull it off, but it’s a reasonable strategy for him.

Comment by Kelli

HEY JOHN MCCAIN — YOU’RE NOT WINNING — YOUR SIDEKICK HUCK IS THE ONLY REASON YOU’RE IN THE RACE, WE KNOW YOUR FRIEND FRED THOMPSON WAS ONLY IN FOR ONE REASON - TO TAKE VOTES FROM ROMNEY - THE SAME REASON SIDEKICK HUCK IS STAYING IN. BTW, MAYBE NOW’S THE TIME TO LET PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT YOUR PRO-LIVING CONSTITUTION STANCE - thus destroying the very foundation of this country… enjoy your time pal, cause when the real John McCain begins to be exposed by the temporary media loyalists, your closet door will be shattered, Mr. Keating 5. & it sure was great how you left your first wife when she needed you most - trying to overcome a devastating car accident, but hey, Cindy was a much more attractive deal, ensuring your political future to be a brighter one. No sense being bogged down by a cripple. One good thought is that if Sidekick Huck succeeds in spliting the conservative vote with his aw shucks fraudulence, you will never be President. Enjoy the spotlight while you can because those days are numbered once you’re standing alone. Only you know what’s in store for you, as those skeletons in your closet are about to be released and in a big way.
I still have hope that those unsuspecting victims being Huckabeed, will wake up before it’s too late. If not, we’ll have President Hillary to contend with for only 4 years, thus ensuring 16 years of a true conservative to follow. We’ll also ensure that the true Reagan Republican Party stays intact and stronger, and that the Constitution will be protected from your clutches.

Meh… they’re not liberals. What you have today are big government conservatives who’ve coopted the liberal belief that government should be grown and used to accomplish ideological objectives. The big government conservative sees government as the only tool, where a traditional conservative or classical liberal sees government as the source of problems. Huckabee has just as many big government ideas as the other candidates, too.

I think the definition of conservative is really flexing in the last few years. It’s not really about fiscal policy any more. It’s about social policy and foreign policy. Both modern liberals and conservatives think that big government programs are the best way to address national problems. Reagan is turning in his grave with all these guys claiming to be “Reagan conservatives”.

Comment by Dano

I watched several news clips yesterday where Mitt said that Mike should stay in the race as long as he wants to. Huckabee is up to his old, dishonest tricks of trying to spin something out of nothing. If he seriously was a contender for the Presidency, he would be trying to contrast his record against that of McCain’s, since McCain is the presumptive frontrunner at the moment.

Huckabee should be honest about what he is doing. He is trying to play the spoiler in order to curry McCain’s favor. If that’s what he wants to do that’s fine, but he shold at least be honest about it. He affirms to popular view that politicians are dirty and slimey.

SKIP …. you really need to do some homework. Thank you Jodi for straightening it out.

I am so sick and tired of Huckabee and McCain using half-truths to try and smear someone else. Did anyone ever explain to that ‘preacher’ that half-truths are the same as a lie. I love the one about the cross in his Christmas campaign “It’s just a bookshelf” - I let a lot of his lies go (that he covers nicely with ‘humor’), but that was the last straw. And McCain is one that uses the technique of chanting a lie over and over - almost like brainwashing. After all, he’s said he is a Republican so often that some people are almost actually fooled into believing it.

I think McCain’s too entrenched in the establishment and with all of the liberal endorsements - which true conservatives should see it for what it is - a red flag… His liberals endorsements come honestly because it was not that long ago he talked about switching to the Democratic Party. I don’t think the people have time to wake up. Mc/Huck’s characters are beginning to show true colors - but I think it’s a little too late. I’m afraid we are in for some deep hardships and oppression like we’ve never seen before.

We deperately need a fresh face, someone with morals and integrity, someone who can be true and has proven faithfulness - and someone who has lived in the economy to help us heal our country. Mitt Romney owes no one and is owned by noone. God help us if we lose our Republican Party.

VOTE MITT ROMNEY for the sake of our country and conservative party - protect our God given rights.

And Hillary/McCain it’s not all about the Government being there to help the people - it’s what Romney understands - and that’s the government is there to help the people, help themselves.

Hey Huck, Was it “Arrogant and presumptuous ” When your campaign suggested the same thing about Fred Thompson?? Oops We’re not supposed to bring that up huh? Sorry.

HUCK THE SPOILER!

Gander, explain to me how sidekick Huck is a conservative please? How can a man be conservative and pro “living constitution”, with the potential for making our country’s very foundation crack? That alone should be telling. There’s many more telling actions from Huck’s AR days as Governor. This flip-flop thing about Romney, I just don’t get. You should be, if YOU are a true conservative, congratulating him for becoming a pro-lifer.
Gander, I as a women, was sadly pro-choice for many years, buying into the fact that “it’s not a baby”, “it’s nothing…”. I guess I too became a flip-flopper, as I am now a pro-lifer, and in growing, began to value life and how precious it is. So should one never be allowed the opportunity to grow? I’ve always thought the one thing constant in our life was change, thus allowing us to become better people. If one cannot change, how can we have hope. The world is a lonely place, especially if you never have the ability to become a better person.
Thus, change (& in your term, flip-flopping) affords us the opportunity to grow. Again, I say, check out this Huck character, cause that’s exactly what he is, a “character”, with great buzz-words and aw shucks mannerism. You may say, so McCain has changed. Well, sadly his actions have not and he’s had over 25+ year to prove it and make things better - but chose to be bought out and continuing to project a frightening egotistical power mania (unfortunately, these same traits I see in Huck)…

Kelli

Listen up Evangelicals, ONLY a vote for MITT ROMNEY in Republican primaries is a vote AGAINST MCCAIN, a loser that is being aggressively imposed on us by the establishment and the “mainstream” media. By casting your vote on ANY OTHER candidate you will be helping MCCAIN to win the Republican nomination.

All the Romnyites:

Do you really think your man is a small government conservative? How do you jive that with the promises to direct federal funds to Detroit, a mandated federal healthcare system with subsidies, and statements about the government needed to “act” to fix social problems? It sounds an awfull lot like like BIG government conservatism to me. He can try to blame the ticking time bomb of a healthcare program in Massachusetts on democrats, but it was HIS plan.

“I’m proud to have the support of such a dedicated athlete and champion,” Huckabee said.

Black Conservatives Rally to Urge
Mike Huckabee to Stay in Presidential Race

PRESS CONFERENCE
Monday, February 4, 2008
9:45 AM
National Press Club
529 14th Street NW, DC

Washington , D.C. — A broad coalition of black conservatives from across the country are holding a press conference to urge former Governor Mike Huckabee to stay in the presidential race for the Republican nomination until the Convention.

“Governor Huckabee should not be intimidated to stop his bid for the republican nomination,” states Don Scoggins, veteran GOP activist and among other conservatives hosting the press conference. “The momentum of the grassroots that propelled this party into victory is behind Mike and will not stop fighting for him regardless of his bank account,” also states Scoggins, president of Republicans for Black Empowerment, a DC based national grassroots organization.

The concern of the group is the pressure that is mounting by Republican talking heads to push Governor Huckabee out of the race. The consensus is that Huckabee’s campaign was deliberately sabotaged by Fred Thompson in South Carolina to hone out a two man race between McCain and Romney in Florida. Polls still show Huckabee leading in many southern states, and competitive in others even with limited resources.

“Inside-the-beltway Republicans have lost touch with the increasing seriousness with which Heartland conservatives relate to the traditional values agenda,” states Star Parker, a nationally syndicated columnist and conservative activist. “More and more folks are feeling personally assaulted by the meaninglessness that is gripping our culture and believe that Mike Huckabee is the only Republican candidate that embodies the moral clarity of the GOP ideals. The groundswell generating support for Huckabee’s candidacy understand that moral and economic health go hand in hand and should not be underestimated.”

Numerous African American conservatives, many also veteran Republican Party activists, are scheduled to speak at the one hour press conference.

When: Monday, February 4, 2008 – 9:45 AM
Where: National Press Club (Murrow Room)
Who: Black Conservatives for Mike Huckabee

So Romney thinks that Huckabee is splitting his side of the vote? Apparently Hannity, Rushbo, Coulter, Ingraham, and others believe this too by their constant blabbing over the last couple days. My question is this:

How is Mike Huckabee stealing Romney votes if Mike Huckabee is such a Liberal according to Romney and all the Elites? All I have heard over the last 4 months is how Liberal Mike Huckabee is but now all of a sudden he is stealing the Conservative vote from Romney. Give me a break!

Our forefathers believed in GOD - not allah or buddah or the stars…
The Constitution was MEANT to be clarified (as it was for woman sufferage and freeing the slaves). It does NOT “crack” the Constitution when the original intent has to be clarified for the changing of our language (such as ‘gay’ doesn’t mean what it did 30 years ago - 1 a: happily excited : merry b: keenly alive and exuberant : having or inducing high spirits ).

Yes, Mike Huckabee is the ONLY Conservative that believes in LIFE. After all, without life there is no liberty and without liberty there is no pursuing happiness… Our forefathers INTENDED for “life” to be mentioned first. It was no accident. Romney has a great love for money and McCain is a liberal.

I will NOT vote for ANYONE in November except for Mike Huckabee.

Joseeph,
It is really simple: Huckabee is Liberal but not as liberal as McCain. I guess it was a mistake to assume that you guys were smart enough to understand that. Romney may not be your ideal guy but you and I both know (assuming you are a christian) that he is a hell of a lot better than McCain!

GOOD COMMENT POP,
I’ve yet to see any of these Hucksters explain to me why he keeps going after Mitt as if he is the front runner. Math doesnt’ seem to matter to these people. Its all about the “God” factor. I beleive in God as much or more than the next guy but even God understands that 2 + 2 does not = 10,000.

Go ahead hucsters start quoting me the ol’ “With God all things are possible…” I know been there, read that….

American is in trouble if McCain is the nominee. Why you ask? What’s a rebublican conservative to do, who do we vote for? There is no one left on either side worth voting for. Might as well write in Mitt Romney. He’s conservative and has the best opportunity to get the economy back on track..Boats

*Just so everyone knows, the conservative base of the republican part will cost McCain the election if he is nominated. Of that, I have no doubt. He and others need to get a clue.

Comment by David, Oregon City

Thank you, conservative elite media commentators and talk show hosts, for splitting the Republican ticket by your continual slandering of Huckabee and Paul supporters. You didn’t get your guy so you trashed everybody else. The Republicans will not get those voters back in time for the primary election. Can you say G. Ford, B. Dole and H. Bush? Please be aware that you are not that smart. You just turned off the conservative base and their donations.

Thank you for putting a Democrat in the White House in 2009, or Mcainnedy!.

Vote for Romney. The dems are scared of him. mcCain being the same as Clinton, they know the Repubs won’t vote for him. They, the dems, want McCain to run.

I think Mike Huckabee will make a great President. I am a registered voter and am planning on voting tomorrow on Super Tuesday, here in Alabama. I think it is wonderful that Mike Huckabee is a Christian and I like his stand on all of the issues like abortion, illegal immigration, war on terror, foreign policy, the economy, taxes, etc. Let’s all get together and show all of these silly poll takers that Huckabee is the best choice and only choice for President of the United States. He is the only true conservative Republican candidate. When he wins the nomination for Republican candidate then he can easily defeat the liberal democrats (communists). He also beat the Clintons in Arkansas. Let us not forget that Huckabee won Iowa already.

Comment by AJ, Iowa City, IA

To Huckabee, it is a bigotted issue. He seems to not care if McCain (liberal) wins or looses. This shouldn’t be a surprise as Huckabee is a fiscal and military liberal. He is battling what people “smarter than broccolli” can see that he is not a real conservative. If he was a real conservative, he would have stepped out of the race after Florida owing to his fledgling bank account and having no chance to win the nomination. He targets Romney for one reason only which is so sickenly obvious!!!!

Romney ‘08!

Comment by ginny

your comments may be true that huck is a great man of faith. I will not rob you of your beliefs. But out out seven contest. Iowa, wyoming, New Hampshire,Michigan,South carolina,Flordia, maine. Huckabee has won only 1 state

This man appears to be a one hit wonder.

I needed to send this out, but I was very hesitant. However, after the endorsement that Mitt Romney received from Sean Hannity yesterday, I cannot hold my silence anymore.

In 2006, Bain Capital, which was founded by Mitt Romney, purchased Clear Channel Communications. Clear Channel owns and operates over 1200 radio and tv stations in America. Some of their talk show host include, Rush Limbaugh, who has stated that electing John McCain or Mike Huckabee would destroy the integrity of the Republican Party. It also includes Sean Hannity, who I stated earlier endorsed Mitt Romney. Sean Beck has continually slammed Mike Huckabee on several issues. I don’t know about you but it is clear that Ol’ Mitt is buying this election if he wins.

Please, pass this on to everyone you know. The light has to be shed on this man.
