Alma Mater Welcomes Coughing Clinton

Hillary Clinton returned to her old law school on the day before Super Tuesday, holding a roundtable discussion on health care and the economy at the Yale Child Study Center.

A doctor who once worked with Clinton on campus, Penn Rhodes, remembered when a young Hillary turned up decked out in purple and wearing bell bottoms. “You looked so 1972,” he joked.

But his serious expression of pride in Sen Clinton’s accomplishments hit home for Hillary.

“I said I would not tear up,” she said after Rhodes’ introduction. “Already we’re not exactly on that path.”

The emotional moment recalled the now-famous incident at a similar roundtable in Portsmouth, NH the day before the New Hampshire primary. Clinton won the state by two points, completing a remarkable comeback that many observers attributed to that glimpse of the senator’s human side.

This time, though, it wasn’t Clinton’s crying but her coughing that dominated the event. Though she insisted last night on her plane that she’s feeing fine, a string of long days on the campaign trail have led to a scratchy voice and a cough that comes and goes. In the middle of today’s event, it came in a big way. Five aides rushed out of the room to fetch a lozenge as she struggled to control the cough — asking the participants at the table to continue.

But as she always does, Sen Clinton recovered to make the case for her health care plan and explain her ideas to fix the housing crisis.

She has one more rally, an appearance on David Letterman’s show tonight - as well as a 90 minute national town hall tonight. Expect her to try her former aide and current ABC sunday show host George Stephanopoulos’ remedy in the interim; he told Clinton before her interview on the show yesterday his secret, throat-easing recipe: apple cider, lemon, and honey.

McCain shouldn’t be so confident. Romney is actually doing very well and is on the rise in important states like California. With delegates Romney has and as polls are predicting he has a majority in enough states to prevent McCain from getting the delegates he must have to be the candidate. Romney also could still win outright. I would like to have a forced media silence for a week before there is a national primary election and let the people study and vote. It is insane to let the Media bandwagon (everyone is voting for so and so so you should too) determine who is elected.

If you saw the same debate I did in California I saw a shriveled old man with hatred and venom continually lying even when no one in the room believed he was correct–nasty and conniving wit his infamous foul temper barely under control. I don’t want him anywhere near a nuclear switch. As you know, may Senators have actually questioned McAmnesty’ sanity when he flys off the handle any time he is questioned. Did you actually hear McCain start saying how he was a prisoner of war when asked about the economy? A screw’s loose somewhere in his noggin’!
Next to him sat an elegant, honest healthy and charming man who knew what he was talking about when the economy was raised.

Vote Romney for sanity in government. Vote Romney for conservatism. Vote Romney for the Economy. Vote Romney for foreign Policy! The man is brilliant and wise!

Best of luck to Senator Hillary Clinton on Super Tuesday and the remaining primaries. I am a 50 year old female supporter and voted for her in my state of Florida.

She has the strength and qualification to be President. A woman president will be CHANGE.

Oprah Winfrey should remember that she made her fortune promoting women’s issues and most of her viewers are women. She is only supporting Obama because of his race. The Kennedy’s represent the past even though Obama claims he is for the “future”.

I support Hillary all the way to the White House !!!

Comment by Jules

I worry about the politics of “first chance/last chance” offered in support of electing a woman or African-American to the presidency. Voting based on gender, race or religion seems just another selfish and divisive reason version of “hurry up and buy” marketting hype.
America’s greatness has been — or will be. I prefer to vote for a future where the social contract is fulfilled on both ends: consent of the governed by majority rule — in the interest of all. I feel the past 16 years as been majority rule only.
I’ve voting for Senator Obama.

Comment by Jan

I also support Hillary Clinton all the way to the White House.

Jules, I must admit I do not 100% understand your comments.
However, I wanted to remind you that 70% of America thought America was going in the right direction after Bill Clinton’s Presidency.
Today, 70% of Americans think George W. Bush is taking us in the WRONG direction.

The 30% who don’t like the direction Clinton took us, but still love the direction Bush has taken us, are called “Clinton-Hating Bush Republicans.”

The majority of ALL Americans are AGAINST the Clinton-Hating Bush Republicans. The past 16 years have been THEIR doing. And, yes, it’s been ugly.

Would be nice if you would take the time to spell check before you post things like this? I count at least 4 typos.

I’m proud of Ms. Clinton in a way that is unique to candidates. She has survived so many vile attacks from Republicans and her opponent. She’s spoken when she was ill, she’s never abandoned a single state, and she’s always been grateful for those who have voted for her. I can only hope that Americans stop allowing themselves to be suckered into the blatant politics as usual that Obama has come to represent this past week as he and every other candidate joined in a chorus of “Voting for him is voting for someone else!”

Thank you, Hillary, for being the true beacon of the intelligent Democratic electorate. I hope that you are selected to lead our country.

Since even McCain supporters are embarrassed by his liberal bills, liberal friends and thoroughly liberal record in the Senate, they often resort to saying, “he’s a true hero”. If you consider McCain heroic b’c of his service many years ago, you must also look to what he’s done since then when deciding whether he’s “a hero”.

After he came back from the war, his 1st wife got in a bad car accident and became partially disabled. What did the HERO MCCAIN do then? He cheated on his disabled wife for a while, then he divorced her, and married the 18-yr-younger, filthy rich mistress. His mistress’ rich father bought McCain a seat in Congress. Still a HERO?

Then McCain, in an early sign of his bi-partisan instinct, became the only Republican of 5 Congressmen to get involved in the Keating 5 ethics scandal that cost the tax payers literally hundreds of millions of dollars. He was the only one of the Keating 5 who did not resign their seat after being found to have taken inappropriate actions by a bi-partisan committee. HEROIC?

The list goes well on, but my point is, you can’t just say “he was a POW” and therefore he’s a great hero. A HERO DOESN’T DITCH HIS WIFE WHEN SHE GETS IN A BAD ACCIDENT. THEY DON’T MARRY FOR MONEY AND POLITICAL ADVANCEMENT. THEY DON’T GET CAUGHT AT THE CENTER OF ONE OF THE BIGGEST ETHICS SCANDALS IN THE HISTORY OF CONGRESS.

I’m not convinced this fraud is a hero at all. He’s an old, Washington politician who has been able to con a lot of people with his military record, but he sure as heck hasn’t conned me.

Did anyone happen to ask Hillary about her internship while she was a student at Yale? She interned with a staunch communist. Really, is that not a fair question to ask?

Comment by Jay

Carl, an internship is not the same as an endorsement.

Comment by Cliff

What is not covered in this summary is that Rhodeen, Clinton’s former boss at Yale, choked up while he was introducing Clinton, and her emotion was a reaction to him.

Cliff, those are facts. They have no business in this election. Please apologize for smearing Obama in your post, and bow to his mighty change. Oh Obama, to who we owe our lives. Change us, dear one. Amen.

Just how much is Hillary paying you to sit and monitor these blogs. And by the way that staged event today sure says a lot about just how far a candidate will go to get elected. At least be more creative then repeating the same old tactics. Lead was dwindling in New Hampshire and she cried; now her lead is shrinking and again she cries. Get real this country is tired of her fairy tale antics.

Comment by skies11

Golly, what a trooper she must be!.

Almost made me tear up.

Not.

Comment by Jay

Independent, she doesn’t pay me a dime. I simply speak the truth, and the truth does not paint her as the devil. Much like your post attempts to do when she has a normal response to a teacher’s glowing praise. Normal people would feel as she did in her situation.

Psychotic people who need mental help would pretend as if she was somehow inappropriate in doing it.

Comment by Truth

How come Oprah Winfrey is a racist? That just being sexist. She would be great if she would support Hillary. Maybe Oprah just doesn’t drink the Koolaid like the Clinton supporters. Hillary is about her self not helping America and feeds America her imaginary credentials and less than stellar political career and social activism that includes screwing unions while she was an attorney at Walmart. Read about her legislative record in objective sources, not her website. As for her crying she’ll have plenty to cry about when she loses the nomination to Obama. Were the Clinton years that great? I think not.

Comment by Jay

Truth, way to live in the future with the politics of hope and change from attacks.

As for the Clinton years, yes. They were that great. The country was enjoying a wealth that it hadn’t seen since the boom post-WW2. The only reason anyone would say it isn’t great is because of the regular conspiracy theories.

Also, I would do a delegate count, but you wouldn’t want to hear it. Clinton’s ahead in many large states with a large amount of delegates. The only “rich” state that is split is California, where Obama has been blitzing the people with Oprah, his wife, and anyone else that will do his job for him.

Comment by Jan

Independent, I seriously doubt you are independent — you’re serving up all the GOP talking points!
re: “Lead was dwindling in New Hampshire and she cried; now her lead is shrinking and again she cries. Get real this country is tired of her fairy tale antics.”

Hillary Clinton CRIED in New Hampshire? LOL! You need to “get real” yourself — you’re making a complete jackass out of yourself with your obvious Hillary Hating.

Crying actually takes tears. Next you’ll be telling us she was “sobbing” at Yale.

How can you tell this country is “tired” of her “antics”?
Is it that she gets TWICE the number of votes that any Republican Presidential candidate receives?????

The TRUTH is, what this country is tired of is REPUBLICANS.

Comment by Independent

Jay
Just like Billary I wouldn’t have expected you to admit anything, but really seems funny that you as a Hillary supporter seems to be invoking your thoughts into blogs that are clearly Republican issues trying to spread Hillary’s failed plans. Including her almost 20 years of health care for which she will spend the next 20 years trying. Why would any true Democrat invoke themselves into a discussion that doesn’t include Hillary “LIES” Clinton?
By the way I see you haven’t responded to the comments made by FTTCD in the blog titled; What do Mitt Romney and Barack Obama have in Common?
I would like to see how you spin your views on his.
If she can’t handle the stress of running a campaign…How can she handle the stress of being President?

Comment by Independent

Jay & JAN
Hillary seems to be working overtime here; she has 2 of her campaign members here today.
As for Hillary’s so called big lead Jay maybe you should follow the reports more closely.

Comment by Jay

Independent, is that how you deal with anyone who doesn’t fall in line with you? Accuse them of being paid by the campaign? Maybe you should learn to deal with the truth, that people can and do support Hillary Clinton every day.

I choose this blog because they do not censor anyone speaking against Obama. Almost every other commenter’s section in this race requires you to get by their censors. I would rather take free speech.

And Independent, stop lying. She teared up because an instructor gave her glowing praise. In New Hampshire, her voice broke because she considered the question very, very personal.

At least Clinton is comfortable speaking off the script. I admire and respect that.

Comment by skies11

I think Jay meant to say,

Excuses- Excuses- Excuses;

Typical responses from those who fail to see what’s really going on here. I wouldn’t expect anything less of you to defend the fact that she is so contrite and polarizing that America will see right through her latest ploy to gain support by playing the sympathy card again.

Comment by Independent

Let’s wait and see just how she follows this up tonight on the Letterman Show, maybe she will make a miraculous recovery or maybe Dave can mess her hair up and make her cry again.

Comment by skies11

Can’t wait to hear the cackle.

Comment by Independent

Maybe she’ll do us all a favor and cancel due to her terrible cold.

Comment by Jay

Independent, do you know what contrite means? Allow me to tell you. It means sincerely apologetic and regretful. If you are contrite, you usually are not polarizing. I think you meant to use “trite”.

If you’re going to attempt to insult her, at least use the right words.

Comment by Independent

Jay you seem a little agitated there sitting and monitoring the blogs. Maybe you and Hillary can fire up another one for the American people. She was crying knowing the fact that she has lied so much to people that she wouldn’t know the truth if it bit her.

Comment by Independent

On second thought there Jay, perhaps you don’t work for Billary at all. Could it be that you may bean illegitimate child of one of Bill’s extra marital affairs?

Comment by Jay

Independent, don’t flatter yourself. I mean, after all, I’m so contrite and bad with my superfangnonamous overthippopotamuses, right? You should rename yourself: A Massive Joke.

Comment by Independent

Are we striking a nerve there Jay?
I am still awaiting your response to my previously asked question; if she can’t handle the stress of running a campaign……. How is she going to handle being President?
Wondering minds are awaiting your intellectual response, but before you answer you better ask mommy first about how you should lie to me.

Comment by Independent

Your not going to start crying on me are you?

Comment by Jay

She can handle the stresses of a campaign, and has showed that she can. What makes you think she can’t?

Also, why do you demonize crying and emotion? Are you one of those basement-dwelling tough guys that never, ever shows emotion?

Comment by Independent

Not just when someone just asks a simple question or makes an everyday comment. So I assume we should expect her to cry everyday she gets asked a question about her childhood?

Comment by Jay

She does not cry whenever anyone makes a comment. She addresses it calmly, without giving into too much rhetoric like others.

However, if you’re referencing the two public moments — one was when she was asked a question that was personal, important, and very vested in her emotions. It is both logical, and reasonable, that should have an emotional response.

The second was today, when her professor gave her introduction, assumingly glowing and positive. Someone she respected said great words about her and it made her emotional. Again, reasonable.

The real question is why you insist on emotion being synonymous with weakness? Why are you so against someone having an emotional moment?

Comment by Independent

It’s quite obvious that her adolescent days seem to be important when it comes to politics and showing her emotions, but her past experience doesn’t seem to matter when asked about or all of the scandals she and her hubby have been linked to or are those to tough for her to answer to?

Comment by Independent

Does she cry everyday when she looks at Bill and remembers all of the affairs he’s had? Or do you not consider that being an emotional moment? The fact that while sitting on the Board of Directors of Wal-mart she didn’t bother to fight for those employee’s right to health care? Or that the fact of her vote on the Iraq war caused thousands of deaths and critically wounded men and woman. I don’t see her getting emotional when talking about the war. Spin it any way you want, the fact is she is a liar and will stoop to any level to get the one thing she cares about the most and that is power. So if you think reliving your childhood are more of an emotional moment then our men and woman dying everyday then you are no different then those who continue to defend her theatrics.

Comment by Jay

Independent, you have a knack for saying nothing in so many words.

Comment by skies11

Jay exemplifies the angry liberals - give him (or her) a break.

Comment by Mike (MD)

Jay; You think that our men and woman dying because Hillary didn’t bother to read the report and send our troops into battle is saying nothing. That sure speaks volumes about what kind of person you really are and you disgust me.

LOS ANGELES - Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, a national co-chair of Hillary Rodham Clinton’s presidential campaign, banked at least $7,500 in political donations linked to an indicted Chicago businessman whose past connections to Barack Obama have been used by Clinton to criticize her rival.

City records show Antoin Rezko, idenfitied as chairman of Rezmar Corp. of Chicago, contributed $1,000 to Villaraigosa’s mayoral campaign in May 2001. Those records show Rezko also donated $500 to another Villaraigosa political committee in March 2003.

Records show Villaraigosa received at least another $6,000 from people or businesses with connections to Rezko.

Now who’s linked to Rezko?

Comment by Jordan Clinton

Sorry Hillary Haters I agree with Jay and I work for Hillary Clinton’s campaign in Arizona.
Barack Obama will never become president of the United States. There is allegedly a forthcoming secret report about him being a secret racist. When that hits, or if the Repubs exploit it, his career will be over.
Here is some of the code he used in South Carolina… written by a Black History Alumni.

I went to see Obama today. I walked in 100% convinced that i was going to vote for him this Saturday, and i walked out less 50% sure about my vote. Let me now tell you why.
The media has depicted the Clinton campaign as fanning the flames of race during this campaign, well Obama does that too, but very subtly. First, i was surprised that Senator Obama dropped his Harvard graduate educated English and picked up a not-so subtle southern African-American English. He dropped his Gs, used Ain’ts here and there, and took up a very preachy tone. Well, this is not serious at all, though i was trouble by it. You can argue that he was trying to relate and adopt his stump speech to the present audience.
However, what troubled me is at one moment during Obama’s stump speech, the Senator turned to the audience, mostly African-Americans, and said (the quote is not verbatim) “y’ll know they are tryin’ to bamboozle ya. It’s the same ol’ Oky Doke. Y’ll know about the Okay Doke, right?” Well let me inform my white friends from the North East about this reference: This is a pure racially coded speech. These expressions raise red flags into every African-American man and woman who hears them. Their meaning is that the white man/woman is trying to fool the black man/woman into doing something against his or her own interest. It depicts the black man/woman as easily fooled by the white man/woman’s hocus pocus. It means that the white man/woman must not be trusted just because s/he white (just a point about my credentials: i teach race relations at a university here in SC)
As an African-American, i thought that Senator’s Obama stump speech and tone was, quite frankly, insulting to me. Obama accuses the Clinton campaign of race baiting, but i think before he wages his finger at the Clintons, he needs to really uphold the same standard to himself. It is dishonest of him to try to hoodwink the African-American community here is SC by using race.

America deserves what it gets, if they vote democrat. National heath care, higher taxes, big government hand outs. It always amazes me the support for the clintons. She started the HMO programs and when people were dying and it was not working, she backed so far away from the program. Attacks against America on the uss cole and the trade center, was ignored by the Clintons. Sex addict running our country and National health care, garnishment of wages. I just don’t think people think anymore. AGAIN NATIONAL HEALTH CARE PEOPLE -last I looked we lived in america. It does not work and people should be screaming with the thought of it. So why even consider voting democrat?

They want everything handed to them they think they our owed everything I grew up poor but always wanted more for me and my kids.
