Does Florida Matter for Dems?
While Republicans fought out a Florida contest with unquestioned significance, much of election day for Democrats was spent battling over just how much the Sunshine State really matters. On a conference call with reporters, top Clinton advisers made it clear they think Florida’s results are a big deal — even though the state awards zero delegates because it violated DNC rules by moving its primary into January.
Citing record turnout among Democrats (more than 1.7 million voted, more than IA, NH, NV and SC combined) despite a complete lack of campaigning in the state, Clinton communications director Howard Wolfson said “we don’t envision a circumstance in which the Democratic National Convention doesn’t seat delegates from Michigan and Florida.”
The Obama campaign responded with a conference call of its own featuring John Kerry, who warned the media not to believe the hype. “It is not a legitimate race, it should not become a spin race,” he said — just the kind of politics Obama rejects, though it’s unclear how calling the votes of more than a million Democrats illegitimate jibes with a new politics of unity and inclusion.
Clinton showed how much she thinks Florida’s results matter by holding a victory rally in Davie as the polls closed. “I could not come here to ask in person for your votes, but I am here to thank you for your votes today,” she said. “This has been a record turnout because Floridians wanted their voices to be heard on the great issues that affect our country and the world. I am thrilled to have had this vote of confidence that you have given me today, and I promise you I will do everything I can to make sure not only are Florida’s Democratic delegates seated, but Florida is in the winning column for the Democrats in 2008.”
Obama’s campaign wants the media to see this as strictly a delegate fight — mitigating the positive news coverage and momentum for Clinton coming out of what was always expected to be a big win for her. Clinton’s camp, meanwhile, would love for the Florida victory to have some legs and staunch the bleeding from the drubbing she took in South Carolina. Either way, the dramatic GOP headlines will probably suck up most of the oxygen on the front pages tomorrow.

Re: A Significant Victory in Florida
Hillary Clinton won a significant victory today in the Florida primary with biggest turnout in Florida Democratic primary history. She will end up with more votes than John McCain, the winner of the Republican primary. And Floridians cast more votes than were cast in Iowa, Nevada, South Carolina, and New Hampshire combined.
A large, broad, and diverse group of voters came out and voted for Hillary in Florida. She won women, men, and just about every age category. She won nearly 6 in 10 Latinos and nearly 3 in 10 African American voters.
The vote turned out to be far more than symbolic. Well over 1.5 million Democrats cast their ballots, more than twice the number of voters who came out to vote in the 2004 primary.
Most of the voters in Florida fully expect that their votes will not be wasted again — they to have a voice at the convention, and Hillary has asked her delegates to support their being seated.
This result comes after Senator Obama ran TV commercials that reached Florida homes and after the enormous publicity he received for South Carolina and for the Ted Kennedy endorsement. The exit polls show widespread recognition of the endorsement — but even so among those who decided on Election Day, a plurality of those chose Hillary.
But any momentum seemed to run out today — among those who decided on Election Day, a plurality of those chose Hillary.

Of course, every vote counts to Democrats. The article title question should be Does Party Rules Matter for Dems? Your article’s title and content are both misleading.
Go Hillary! You can bring about the necessary improvements that this country sorely needs!
You won Florida EVEN WHEN OBAMA BROKE HIS PROMISE BY ADVERTISING IN FLORIDA!
Best of all Hillary won the late deciders! The tide has turned! Hillary is on the ascendant!
Hillary Hillary Hillary!

Where was Hillary’s support for the rights of Floridians in early January?
Hilary Clinton has no shame, she’ll manipulate anybody and anything to gain an advantage. Do you really want this woman running the country?
I have a simple question that I have been wanting to post somewhere and would like an answer. Ever since I first heard or read the word “dems or demmies” referring to Democrats I have been offended by it. Where did it get started, and why are Republicans not referred to as “reps or reppies”? Either strikes me as derogatory.
If Hillary thinks Florida is important to her why did she sign a petitioin agreeing to not campaign there and that Florida delegates will not be counted? She is very consistent in her policies. She will just sign any paper thrust in front of her and then later complain about it. Isn’t that what she did with her Iraq vote. Isn’t that what she did with Iran vote?
Well if Mexico wants to take over US all they have to do is write on a paper saying now US belongs to Mexico. Then thrust that paper in front of Hillary Clinton to sign. She will sign it right away. She would later say that it was not an authorization fo Mexico to take over US.
Hilary is some character. She has no sense of what this country needs. She is used to flip flopping so much that she does not know how to look beyond the current day.
HRC - again, say and do anything to win. SHAMEFUL! An insult to Iowa, NH, Nevada, and SC people. Once a State has had an election, she minimizes those States. I feel sorry for Florida, but the State Demo Party is at fault, not the people. The Clinton have lost any respect left of the Clinton’s with this under handed action…
Looks to me like there are some sore losers posting messages. Get over yourself and grow up, people can vote anyway they want - last time I checked we live in The United States of America - the home of the FREE.
GO HILLARY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GO HILLARY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ALL THE WAY TO THE WHITE HOUSE !!!!!!!!!!!!
Clinton Chiseler — Once again, the low level of the Clinton team is revealed. Instead of honoring her pledge not to campaign in Florida, she did everything possible to win votes — claiming a victory by deceit. Just the sort of leadership the Democrats will offer us — dishonest and self-serving. Not someone I would want to have leading me. She may represent the usual 25% or so who elect a partisan to run the country — but none of these shifty lowlifes should be considered to represent the majority of Americans.
What I meant to say - “the American people have lost respect of the Clinton’s with this latest under handed action in Florida….”
Yes, Florida mattered. The focus now must be on letting Floridians be part of the convention. After Bush sued to discard the votes of Floridians & the USSC spat upon the Constitution in 2000, the Democratic party must strive to adhere to Constitutional principles. Every vote must count. Barack Obama is a fine young American, and would make an excellant VP; he is however somewhat inexperienced to serve as President at this time. Though John F. Kennedy served at a younger age, lifespans were shorter & he had been tested through war & injury. Senator Clinton is the choice for those who know hard work, brains & vision create US Presidents. Our boy President, though now in his sixties, is but a pale contrast to Hilary Clinton. The 1.5 million Americans who chose Senator Clinton yesterday were not acting upon whims of staged poses, but for the best interests of their Country.
The more I know about Hillary the less I like her. I have gone from being a supporter to a vigorous anti-Hillary activist….What turned it around for me was her hypocritical comments about an Obama supporter (Rezko). Apparently she “forgot” that she and Bill accepted money from convicted felon Norman Hsu….lol…I guess in her world that was somehow different. Anyone who doubts should just look up the list of people she and Bill “pardoned” at the last minute of his presidency. If one were to look into the relationships carefully, the public would be stunned. I won’t vote for her.
Notice how Hillary was ahead in all states but once Obama started working the state she lost votes. Hillary won fl. on by name recognition only. If Obama would have campaigned there she would of either lost or only won my 2 to 3 points. So florida means nothing. Notice as well the media is not buying it. MSNBC did not bother making news of it. And CNN gave it a little column just to the right. She is trying to give hype to nothing and it is not working. By the way a new poll came out. Clinton Led Obama in California by 12 pt now its down to just 9pt. http://www.gallup.com/poll/104017/Gallup-Daily-Where-Election-Stands.aspx
Votes are Votes.
There were more votes for Hillary than for McCain or any of the Republicans or Democrats.
Votes are supposed to count for something. They also reveal the interest and motivation of people to participate in the election of their leaders.
What else would one expect from the Clintons? She runs to Florida - making at least two stops before February 29, then tries to justifiy breaking the rules by blathering something about “gatherings of private invitation only.” Can’t believe this country wants more years of both Clinton’s in the White House. I suppose slick willy will become the vice president. We’re in big trouble if the Clintons win in the end beause everybody loses.
Walt Frankenberry
re: “Instead of honoring her pledge not to campaign in Florida, she did everything possible to win votes…”
She did “everything possible”?
Really????
Did she do an ad buy that ran in Florida, like Obama did?
I know, I know; he couldn’t help it. He HAD to buy an ad that just happened to have to run in Florida too. LOL!
FACT: Hillary Clinton won more votes in Florida than John McCain.
FACT: Hillary Clinton won more votes from Democrats in Florida than both other Democratic candidates combined.
OPINION: If Barack Obama doesn’t have enough name recognition by now, it ain’t gonna happen.
Florida is just one more piece on a heap of evidence that Hillary Clinton cares nothing about America and the American people, and only about herself and advancing her politics. She’s a ruthless, cold-hearted turncoat; power-hungry, immoral, and clearly un-American. She is a frightening phenomenon in our country’s “leadership”. I’ll support ANY candidate OTHER THAN HER!
There are 2 kinds of politicians, regardless of Dem or Rep, and regardless of conservative or liberal. There are those who genuinely care about their agenda, and then there are those who simply want power. Obama is still at the point of genuinely caring, while Hillary only wants power. And she will do or say whatever it takes to get that power. She is NOT the kind of leader we need.
I agree with Sarah Washington on the meaning of the RESULTS, but I disagree with the statement “Florida means nothing”. Obama has an uphill battle in every state, for people to come see him, understand the message and energy of his campaign. If he doesn’t even campaign in a state, Hillary is the winner by default. Florida’s vote matters, but we all know Hillary has been the default nominee since the beginning. “Who’s this Obama guy?” If he never shows up, just vote for what you know. I’d say a lot of Obama supporters only switched after coming to see him speak and forming an understanding about the type of audience he engenders and the message he brings to the campaign. For this article to imply that his SC energy has dissipated with Florida is ridiculous and embarrassing for someone to suggest… but a part of me can understand that truth is relative, and if you’re in Florida RIGHT NOW, Hillary’s comments about seating delegates probably wins her a lot of support. –I just think its very poor to undercut your party rules like that, by not standing in agreement with the decisions. She would vote for Use of Force in Iraq in order to show the U.S. in united, but she’d vote to overturn party rules given Florida’s violations. Weird.
#1 - Saying Floridians voted for Hillary based only on name recognition is an insult. We have watched the debates, read information on the candidates websites, and watched the news. Even if one of the candidates stepped foot in the state, I wouldn’t have gone to see them since I don’t have time. It wouldn’t have mattered.
#2 - All the democratic candidates signed that petition because they were pressured by the DNC to do so.
#3 - It isn’t my fault that the state moved up the primary. The Florida voters shouldn’t be penalized for a decision that was out of our hands.
#4 - If Obama had won the state of Florida he would be doing the same exact thing that Hillary is doing, trying to get the Florida vote to count. Don’t fool yourselves into thinking otherwise. It isn’t an underhanded action to have one of the votes count for one of the largest states in the country.
#5 - In a recent NY Times article Obama stated that our vote was meaningless. If he had won he would have changed his tune, but I wonder how many consciencious Democrats read that and had a change of heart to vote for him.
Now that all is said and done, I am very happy with my choice voting for Hillary and hope this momentum carries until Super Tuesday for her.
A lot of people, including myself, have an uneasy feeling about this woman leading the U.S.A. Having mentioned that, there is are a lot of people that support Hillary, for the “free” things she is promising everyone.
Of course whoever is elected, there are things that are going to go wrong, and that may make President George W. Bush appear as “not so bad”, but an organization has millions of dollars to spend to bring to mind any, and every misstep Mr. Bush has took. If it sounds like dirty politics, that is because it is, but the next president of the United States, will need all the diversion he/she can get.
We should prepare for a VERY HARD JOURNEY, in 2009, no matter who is driving the bus.
I feel sorry for the Floridians because they didn’t get the benefit of learning of Obama. They would have voted for him had he been allowed to campaign. They have no delegates, so no, they don’t count!
My God!
That woman is really desperate. This the kind of obsession toward political gains at any cost that draw the line between developped countries and war ridden third world countries.
I hope will be smart enough not to vote for that woman.
I would Amen what Charles Nickalopoulos had written, because it is so true. I voted in the primary, and I plan to vote in the run-off, but whoever wins, it looks pretty dismal to me.
The DNC punished who? The people of a state that is part of the USA! Since when does any political party have the right to deny the citizens the full impact of their vote? Do you think that because there is a large senior population and Latino population this is okay to do? So much for unity and inclusion!
No offense: Hillary Clinton does not have it - too borings and not inspiring
Hillary began this election leading in every State because of their name recognition. But the moment to undecided come face to face with her or attend her campaign they are turned away. She is very boring, uninspiring. If you ever attend Obama’s event as an undecided, you become instantly converted. It is not a criticism of Hillary Clinton, she simply does not have the rare gift of Obama. Of course, every honest person in both Republicansand Democrates will tell you that this guy is simply talented.
I have an uneasy feeling about letting ANYONE lead this country, regardless of gender (or race). It’s been quite a few decades since this country has had a president that the public looked up to and respected. A few really bad apples have soured the public’s view of the presidency, and made them much more scrutinizing about the candidates. With this said, my problem with Obama is that he is young and relatively inexperienced, but he has charisma, like JFK. But personality and a winning smile does not a president make. Give him another four years, and I’ll be behind him. Hillary, however, has one really big flaw: Bill Clinton. He’s aching to get back in the White House, but he’s going to ruin her with greediness. And I’m sorry, but as much as I think Hillary is very capable, I don’t respect her for keeping him around after the Monica thing, and I really don’t want that man anywhere near the White House. I don’t know who to vote for, unless I change my party affiliation (not bloody likely).
Darla Jean Christopher: “The 1.5 million Americans who chose Senator Clinton yesterday…”
1.5 million didn’t. She didn’t get 100% of the vote. Try not to exaggerate, it makes you look uncertain of your position.
For the record, with 99% precincts reporting, 856,944 voters chose Clinton. A hardly insignificant 568,930 chose Obama.
Two things I draw from the events of yesterday:
1. Hillary signed a pledge not to campaign in Florida. The point was to sanction Florida and Michigan for not playing by the DNC rules in a election to determine the DNC candidate. After getting votes in an unsanctioned election, Hillary now wants the votes counted. This is not about the voters, this is about Hillary first and foremost. She signed the pledge to appear to play by the rules but now is bending them to her own purpose. “It all depends on what the definition of is is?????”
2. Last night Hillary attempted to turn a non vote into something more than it was. Some may say that that is just being a good politician. I say that we have had enough of politicians who tell us we are getting something but are really giving nothing.
We can learn much from how the candidates are acting NOW. This is not about the rights of the voter, this is about Hillary first and foremost. Listen to the speeches. The word that is used more times than any other word is “I”.
Not sure what the author meant in his last line. Hillary received a MAJORITY in Florida, not a mere plurality. Check the definitions.
Read the FL exit polls - Clinton dominated what it will take to win!
GO HILLARY!!!!!!!SINCE WHEN DOESN’T THE
VOTE OF EACH AMERICAN MATTER. IT WILL
MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN NOVEMBER!!!!!OR HAVE
I HAD MY HEAD IN THE SAND FOR MY ENTIRE
LIFE!!!!!
AVA: obama is a preacher…we need a boring president (someone who will work and get the job done) this is not a he is a more fun guy contest! Look at President Bush: everyone was saying “oh i’d rather drink a beer with him then Kerry”
Look were that got us!
My Lord, how can any living, functioning, adult human being be so stupid as to believe ANYTHING that comes from any of the Clintons - especially Hillary?
They did absolutely nothing for this country the first time around and will do less this time. The worst is that she is not just a philandering, selfish, crooked, power-hungry politician that wants ONLY to build their own coffers and wealth (like the recent republican) - she is a socialist/communist that will do everything in her power to align with Europe and Africa to build a world government that will supercede the constitution by treaties that she and those like her sign.
She wants to build a socialist country by passing socialistic laws. She wants to add significant power by passing rights-robbing laws. This is far more sinister than the republicans that are merely crooked.
Those in our heartland understand this - it’s the idiots in the cities and urban areas that would vote for her solely to get a free ride and they don’t care about freedoms ’cause they are to cowardly to fight for them anyway.
Though Hillary, like the other candidates, did sign a petition to not campaign in Florida, She didn’t. The Obamba camp and his news network (CNN) are spinning this as though she did campaign. Where is the proof of this? Yes she went there, to Florida, to thank the Floridians for the vote of confidence (after the votting ended). Why wouldn’t she. Are you, the Obamba or Edward supporters, telling me that they wouldn’t of done the same had they been the winners and bragged about this and doing the same thing as Clinton? Please. This only shows the ignorance that a sore loser (Obamba and his news network (that he advetises on for 2 million a week)) says - of boo-hoo.
The fact is very clear. With no campaigning (except Obamba and his commericials on CNN that is publized on CNN down there - gee what a surprise), and all of the canidates on the ballot - Clinton not only won (winning almost TWICE what Obamba got) - the big news is Obamba LOST!
Florida has been called the state that is a cross section of America, not just a state, such as South Carolina that is mostly black that obviously voted for a black canidate (no surprise) without regard for experience, leadership, ability and solutions for the economy and our military involvement overseas to and how to fix it all. All he speaks of is dreams and change. Talk is cheap. I’m for the canidate that has experience and know-how to fix the economy - not the pretty boy that all the children in college adore because he’s a good talker (time to grow up kiddies and use your brain instead of you feelings).
We need a leader that is experienced and more than capable to fix our ill economy, solve the helth care crisis that is becoming a growing problem because more and more companies are dropping insurance and the greedy insurance companies aer raising rates dramtically every year in the name of profit (and people think this should be kept private - what if we did that with schools, police, fire and military - why is this any different?). We need some that is a problem solver and gets results, not a talker that smiles and talks alot (really, is that going to win over republican voters - I don’t think so). We need a leader that can work not only with Democratics but also republicans and independents (like myself) - after all the president should represent America and all the people, not just their own party and personal interest (perfect example is our current president - Bush). We need a leader that can work with everyone to get results, solve real problems and get this country back to the prosperious times of the Clintons being in charge again. There is no Denying that When Bill Clinton was president that the economy became strong and our deficit was well on it’s way to being paid down - untill bush stole the whitehouse and sold most of America to Haliburton and any lobbiest that paid him off.
We need Hillary - a real Leader!
The problem with your “new politics of unity and inclusion” is that Florida had every opportunity for a binding vote if they followed party rules and had their election after 2/5, just like the vast majority of states. This was not a surprise; Florida knew they were violating the rules.
Thus, all major candidates agreed not to campaign in Florida. Counting the results of a race without campaigning would be unfair.
It is BILLARY, not Hilary!
AMEN TO THAT JOHN!!!
TO MIKE
This is a matter of principle. Pure and simple!!
The HILL_BILLIES pledged to respect the DNC decision to boycott Florida because they don’t want to play by the rule which seems obvious to anyone decent and then they decided to go to Florida and perform that miserable theatrical set yesterday just like they won something legitimate. They show no respect, no decency, and no honesty. I’m not for Obama because I think he’s too liberal and Edward a demagogue but the HILL-BILLIES are really shameless and won’t stop at anything to come back with a vengeance. This our lowest level so far and we’re going lower and lower.
Anyway, what would expect from somebody who had had some orgies on regular basis in the Whitehouse?
God helps us.
Name recognition has always been her biggest advantage, but I think Hillary also does best when she makes fewer appearances. If she really wants to win the nomination, she should pledge to not campaign in any of the coming primaries.
I say go Hillary. Why is it there is always so many issues with Florida? I think the DNC should let them count as the democrats are supposed to be about unity and change. Why would they want to alienate people. Regardless of who wins the primaries the democrats need Florida to win the presidency we should be embracing Florida not pushing them away.
It reminds us all why we hate them so much.
This just illustrates what a hypocrite Hillary is. She agreed back when Florida moved up their primary that their delegates would be disqualified at convention, but of course now that she won the state she wants them counted. Gimme a break.
And if they are to be counted, then there should be a new primary in Florida, one where both candidates get to actually campaign here. I suspect that if Obama had come here and campaigned, the results would have looked quite different.
At the end of the day, this is all the Florida Democratic party’s fault. They were warned by the national committee that if they moved up their primary their delegates would be disqualified, but they went ahead and did it anyway, and wasted the time and votes of all the Florida democratic voters. But then again this is typical for Democrats–always figuring out new ways to shoot themselves in the foot and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
I am a registered independent and I sure hope it’s not the Clinton’s. Yes, (sorry to say) I did vote for Bill Clinton, cause I was in college and he appealed to me being a man of change for the good. I know Hillary is running but Bill and Hillary are a packaged deal. As a grew older and married with kids, the Clintons social policies transcended to my everyday life. For example the whole “pc” correctness. You couldn’t say he’s black, asian, etc. You had to put the prefix “American” in front of the descriptor or blatently giving minorities jobs or spots in schools, even though they may not be qualified due to a quota agenda or pushing the gay issue/rights to a morally acceptable existence. It came to a point where you couldn’t say what’s on your mind for fear of offending someone. In addition, the Clinton’s dislike the military. Every friend and family member in the military high and low rank felt their opinion, not just through budget cuts, but by their policy changes. If Hillary is on any ticket, as vp or pres, their not getting my vote. Voting for the Clintons will be a giant leap backwards for me and especially for my kids.
GO HILLARY WE LOVE YOU . YOUR NOT LAZY THAT WHAT THIS COUNTRY NEED
WE AND ALL OF OUR FRIENDS ARE VOTING FOR YOU!!!!!!
Issued by the Clinton Campaign after Iowa:
To: Interested Parties
From: The Clinton Campaign
Regarding: Michigan and Florida Presidential Primaries
The Obama campaign today circulated a memo regarding today’s Michigan primary and
the January 29 Florida primary. This memo was concerning on several levels.
Let us be very clear. Senator Clinton signed a pledge that she would not campaign in any
state that violates the DNC approved calendar. Therefore, we did not campaign in Michigan,
nor will we campaign in Florida in violation of the pledge. We have two small scheduled
fundraisers in South Florida on January 27, as explicitly permitted by the pledge, but we will
not hold any open public campaign events. The Obama campaign has also held numerous
fundraisers in Florida since signing the pledge. Contrary to the Obama campaign’s memo, there
are no events at large venues, nor have we organized in the state. We intend to do so as our
party’s nominee in the general election, but will honor our pledge not to campaign there in
violation of the pledge.
Let us be clear about something else, however. While Senator Clinton will honor her
commitment not to campaign in Florida in violation of the pledge, she also intends to honor her
pledge to hear the voices of all Americans. The people of Michigan and Florida have just as
much of a right to have their voices heard as anyone else. It is disappointing to hear a major
Democratic presidential candidate tell the voters of ANY state that their voices aren’t important.
Make no mistake — the Obama campaign had no problems when its supporters and allies
in Michigan ran radio ads and other campaign activities urging people to vote for
“uncommitted” as a way to register their support for Senator Obama — and to give him a chance
to compete for those delegates at the national convention
(http://facts.hillaryhub.com/archive/?id=5218).
Now, with polls in recent days showing that effort and their candidate running far behind in both states, the Obama campaign has shifted tactics to say that those who cast a vote in either state don’t matter. We couldn’t disagree more.
Senator Clinton intends to be President for all fifty states. And while she will honor the
pledge she signed and not campaign in either state, she intends to continue to give every
American a voice during this election and when she gets to the White House.
Biggest state, most diverse population, picks Hillary Clinton afetr a year of debates and campaigning.
Id say the race is over. Time to make nice again.
I am a Floridian and my vote counted. I have every right to voice my choice for Hillary. It was our Republican Congress that voted to move up the date. Democrat Senator Nelson filed a lawsuit but ran out of time fighting it. Who is John Kerry to tell me the Florida votes don’t count. More of us showed up and voted than the supporters of McCain and the Dems, with the exception of Obama, didn’t run any ads or campaign here. Go Hillary all the way to the White House, Obama would be a great VP so the Dems will take back America for 16 years.
YAY!!!!!!!! Hillary…. Well the voters have spoken and that is all it really matters at the end. Yes it does. Obama refused to run his adds in FL and it hurt him at the end but personally i wouldn’t had voted for him. Obama’s decisions such as not putting his voice in our state and thinking it doesn’t matter just makes you think what other decisions he would make while running this country. Besides he is just a dissaster waiting to happen for this country and another George Bush accept on a Democratic sence DISSASTER. American’s “USA” are so close minded when it comes to new changes but in all reality noone of our candidates Dems or Reps are ready to face the mess our current president has lead us to for the pass 8 yrs. But hey Welcome to AMERICA…
GO HILLARY … Oh yeah Hey Chell hope u doing good.
I voted in the Democratic “primary” yesterday and was made to feel that my vote didn’t matter, but I should go ahead and do it anyway. I think that is the bigger story than the all of the candidates’ woes. Will my vote ever matter for anything ever again? What is going on, Florida? And why is the Federal Government continuing to allow the votes of Floridians to be worthless? In this case, at least I achieved a symbolic vote.
Let’s add this wrinkle: if candidates don’t really want my vote, why don’t they just give the election to the candidate who spends the most money, because you sure don’t want my opinion anymore.
Does Florida matter for Dems? DOES FLORIDA MATTER FOR DEMS? Does any Dem remember the 2000 Presidential election? If any single Dem forgets 2000, then they NEED to lose their right to vote.
It is it funny the when you vote in a non-delegated state (FL and MI) it consider a “Beauty Contest” the media does not have any respect for the people that went out to vote for their candidate and stood in line…this sounds as if we did something wrong…Let the people vote without the media discounting them…The Floridians knew due to violation that it will not count but if the media stop discounting and start promoting that it was a record turnout that voted. But their candidate (O-bama) did not win that is WHY they are discounting this state. The media attention for Hillary Clinton is shabby, cruel, despicable, and unfair…And you wonder why other country doesn’t like us, we are hypocrites…..
We have a candidate that attends a church but the church is racist but he is uniter…if I can’t seat down and worship with you then how can you be a uniter….Oh I see that is just a slogan for a campaign…only in America
Now he get endorse by Ted Kennedy it get all the attention where was the attention to console the girl family that he left to drown in Massachusetts…
Nothing mention that Maxine Waters in CA has jumped on Hillary side with a endorsement
It is true that the vote of every American matters and that each should have an equal or at least equivalent say in who becomes our nation’s president. But the DNC is not a part of the US government. The DNC does not directly choose the next presidenct: it chooses its own candidate for the government-run elections in November. Althought the DNC will have a large impact on the selection of the president, the Democratic Party is a political body run by its own rules and is not entitled to value each vote or each state equally. It might have been a drastic move to disregard the result of the Florida primaries, but it was arbitrary, not unfair.
So although it is sad, the DP gets to choose how it runs its show. The Democratic Party will most likely not go back on its promises even if the two main candidates have.
No, Florida’s vote doesn’t matter to the DNC. But yes, Florida is the fourth largest state and it’s people have already had an impact on the election process.
“…a ruthless, cold-hearted turncoat; power-hungry, immoral, and clearly un-American. …a frightening phenomenon in our country’s “leadership”.
HUH? Isn’t this a description of the “current occupant?”
I’m for Obama.
Even though I disagree with their choice, I think Florida did something amazing by going out to vote. That’s what Democracy is about. Great job!
Of course Florida matters to Democrats, and Michigan too. Unfortunately, the state party leaders screwed the people out of a campaign to get to know the candidates, and out of a chance to choose their leader.
While I completely sympathize, it would not be fair to the people in Florida or Michigan or to the people in the United States to allow their delegates in at this time. By agreeing not to compaign in these states, the candidates denied the citizens the right to know what they stood for, so the vote is not what it would have been if the states were open to campaigning. For that reason, it would not be fair to the rest of the people in the United States to include their votes.
I feel very badly for Florida and Michigan.
I find it interesting that Obama, “The Uniter”, feels that the votes of the people of Florida don’t matter because the state’s delegates don’t count. To disenfranchise an entire state simply because it doesn’t offer him political gain is pretty hypocritical. Wonder how he would be talking if he had actually won the state.
It is a travesty that our voting system has come to this. I voted for Hillary Clinton, and my vote should count. Period. The DNC needs to restore the Florida delegates, or risk losing many voters to the Republican Party.
I am from Florida and I am getting tired of not having my voice heard. Could it be that some registered Dem’s in Florida did not bother to vote, understanding their vote would not count? Now HRC will try to get those delegates appointed to her. If HRC gets those delegates anyway, I will be flipping furious. Florida better get its act together. One voice, one vote. Not in Florida where every time we try to vote some new improved bunch of crap messes it up. This is getting real old. I voted by absentee ballot this time. Maybe next time I will claim residence in another state, preferable one that doesn’t use the Diebold machines.
It is perfectly logical that the majority of your respondents to the above story are anti-Hillary, inasmuch as Fox News is an obvious proponent of a competing political philosophy. Monkey see, monkey do.
Every vote counts. It is funny how the Obama campaign is saying some votes do not. How is that moving forward???? Florida does matter.
When a woman outMANuevers, outstrategizes. outthinks, and outworks a man, she is called a witch, and she is called deceptive, and dishonest. When a man does it he is called shrewd, and savvy. The double standard of the political circus is really something else. Hillary is a brilliant lawyer, a thoughtful, articulate speaker, a strong, determined, compassionate champion of the rights and needs of those with little voice. Bill Clinton was one of the greatest presidents the economy ever saw. Yeah sure, the good times of the 90’s were a result of Reaganomics….puleese. Paying down the deficit, balancing the budget, inspiring the nation, hunting down, capturing and incarcerating the people who bombed the WTC in 93, and being seen by the rest of the world as an inspirational leader….all that was what? Manipulation of the liberal media? Yeah right. Okay, NAFTA was a disaster. Monica was stupidity. But he was still a shrewd economic mind. And a pretty conservative democrat by every standard. Forget the endless daily talking points from slanted psuedoconservative neo-con nutjob radio. Ayn Rand is rolling over in her grave when she see’s how these flag waving gun toting right wing religious fanatics have hijacked the once great conservative movement. Dry-drunk Bush has flushed this economy down the arabian toilet bowl in a shameless no-bid private personal war against a soveriegn nation who never attacked us. He has destroyed our image, our dollar, and has damaged our future. Can Hillary save us? Who knows. But I’ll tell you this, McCain sure ain’t the answer, Romney is a corporate raider and in my opinion, Obama has too much shady back room Chicago baggage …..
McCain For President!
Would you like to know how of a straight talk McCain is?
Would you like to learn how much honest McCain is?
McCain has so much to offer as President that one just need to watch this video to get to know him in depth!
McCain For PRESIDENT!!
Didi, Yoda and others who don’t have a problem with Hillary’s approach….
You have to understand, the Clinton’s skirting of the rules, misleading statements, race-bating, mischaracterization of Obama’s records, and “accidentally” trotting out mistakes he made as a teenager, have become a pattern of her campaign.
In the context of the way she’s waged her campaign, it is a simply a matter of convenience for her that the truly noble cause of the votes being counted in Florida happens to work in her favor (a failure of leadership in the DNC, and your state, this could be crucial in tipping Florida to the Republicans in the General).
You have to understand, this whole thing is more about her than you. Her supporters attempted to disenfranchise voters in the Nevada Caucus by a last minute change that would have disallowed the caucusing of folk near the Casinos where they work (only after the Culinary Union supported Obama) and she and Bill supported that action.
Bill deliberately engaged in race baiting in South Carolina to marginalize Obama’s support among African-Americans. Everybody saw it and they were punished by Kennedy forcefully endorsing Obama and repudiating every argument the Clinton’s have ever made against Obama in his endorsement speech!
They’re willing to do most anything to win good bad or otherwise and it’s these tactics that make her a serious liability in the general.
She couldn’t beat McCain, he gets the Republicans and independents and she gets a shocked and upset Democrats. In that same election, Obama wins in a landside!!
every vote counts. Go Hillary
Does anyone believe that Hillary would have made the big deal about Florida if she had won in SC?
Haven’t we learned that the one underlying motto of the Clintons is the rules are made for everyone but us. We should be trying to elect the best person to run this country; not the best African-American or the best woman. If you have to rely on that crutch; you really don’t believe that you are the best person.
For those that are gloating over the FL votes; count the number of ABH voters out there.
Florida votes do count. I am from SC and my vote counted. It doesn’t matter who wins; everyone should be a part of the process. Each campaign can give their version of the results but the fact Hillary won WITHOUT any ads says a lot. I think the excuse of “we paid for a national ad and of course that included Florida” doesn’t make sense. You simply say “I appreciate the package, but please do not run these in Florida.” The local affiliates then could run local ads while the national ads are running on the network. Anyone with twice the sense of Obama could figure that out. I am looking forward to super Tuesday when the telling results will be in.
One more thing, Obama is for change but he is relying on the oldest family Democrat for help. The Kennedy’s have been around a lot longer than the Clintons. So, I guess it is okay to say I want change because I young. JFK did many wonderful things, but reflecting on his presidency goes back 40+ years. At least, 12 years ago, most of us can remember what a great country and president we had.
I’m glad for Senator Clinton and I, as a Black man urge Black voters to look at the canidates and not the color of their skin.
Not to change the subject…but Obama clearly snubbed Hillary. I was beginning to like him, but after I witnessed that, I thought to myself if he aks this immature over this; how in the world could he lead a nation. We don’t need a “baby” in the white house. We need someone who can overlook another person’s personality or what they say and be professional when it matters. The Kennedy endorsement (Ted) is just because he can’t stand the fact a woman may be in charge. The Kennedy’s have long been womanizer’s. I can’t speak for Caroline but I think she is just going along for namesake.
Let me see,Florida (the Fossil People State)is a cross section of what?No one there has any incentive for change yet they have the most to lose.In 50 years 1/2 the state with be underwater by the “fictional”global warming.yet they think they can afford 4-8 years of gridlock.I guess Al Gore will get his revenge when you get Hillary and high water.
Should the candidates go the Convention? Yes. But in both Michigan and Florida, they should hold new elections, simply to give other candidates a chance.
We all know that if Edwards or Obama had won Florida, they would have been right there giving the same speech Hillary was giving. If you think any differently, you are fooling yourself. If Obama gets the nomination, a republican will be in the white house….period!
My question, “Would you rather have Hillary’s 50% or BO’s 31%? Florida places the SC vote in its proper perspective, and now on to Super Tuesday. Congratulations Hillary on your Great Victory in the Sunshine State.
I have no care, opinion or idea about the significance of the Florida Primary results. As f
