Rudy Giuliani: “I’m not running and I’m supporting John McCain”
Burbank, CA — Rudy Giuliani announced that he will be withdrawing from the presidential race and will be endorsing Sen. John McCain during a media availability on his plane this afternoon. He landed in Burbank, California at about 1:45 pm,Pacific Time and is headed to the Reagan Library to make the formal announcement at 3pm.
Some highlights:
“I called some of our strong supporters and thanked them earlier today and also told them what I think you all now know, which is I am gonna endorse John McCain. It’s disappointing to lose a race for president because you believe you’re the best candidate, but I had made it clear before I had to make this decision who I thought the other best candidate was. I think I made it clear during a debate that if I had not been running, I would be supporting John McCain. So I’m not running, and I’m supporting John McCain and he is far away the best person to be the commander in chief of the United States.”
Any quid pro quo/VP slot?
“There is absolutely no understanding on any position in government. I am not seeking any position in government. I am going to be a very enthusiastic and active supporter of John McCain. I have offered, anything he or his campaign believe I can do, I will do for them……I’ve also called a lot of my people, as many as I could in this short period of time, and asked them to support Sen. McCain and so far no one has said that they wouldn’t. Some have said yes, some are thinking about it…….I’m not seeking the vice president nomination. It’s way too premature for anybody to be speculating about vice presidential candidates. I’m not seeking a position in government.”
Why not Mitt Romney?
“This is not a why not Mitt Romney or Mike Huckabee. I admire both men. I went through a unique experience with them for a long time. I have grown to respect them. I am convinced that John McCain is the best choice for president of the United States. I was convinced of that a year ago, or whenever I said it, except at that point I thought there was a better choice and the better choice was me.”
Why did you not wait until Super Tuesday to drop out?
“Well because it seemed to me there was no question that any number of votes I would have gotten on Super Tuesday would have would have taken substantially away from Senator McCain’s votes.”
What went wrong?
“Obviously the strategy didn’t work. So we’re going to go back and try to figure out why. I don’t have the answer for that. Obviously the strategy of ‘focus on Florida,’ ‘don’t contest in a heavy way the early primaries with the emphasis on Florida’ — obviously the strategy didn’t work. I believe although I haven’t had the chance to review it, it was in fact, even having said that, the only strategy available to us. Could we have done it in a better way? We’ll think about that. I don’t know the answer to that right now. “
Was it a mistake to skip early states?
“I am not much on that-in retrospect having regrets because you don’t get to it that way…. at this point, I feel the same away about the strategy today as I did yesterday. It was the strategy available to us. It was the only realistic strategy available to us given my strengths, my weaknesses, given the amount of money we were able to raise, and given the places we thought we could make a big impact. Obviously, it didn’t work. But, as we were going through the strategy we really did believe it would.”
You were the frontrunner. Does it hurt to lose this way?
“Well I always was ready to lose. I’ve run in enough elections…you say to yourself, ‘do not run if you can’t lose,’ I was always ready to lose and I was always aware of the fact that despite the fact that I appeared to be the frontrunner, that I was trying something different ad something unorthodox and that had a risk attached ot it….I never at any point felt that I would win for sure. So, there was always, in my mind, the possibility that we would lose. I knew we were defying, we were defying conventional wisdom. We had no choice but to do that because I wasn’t gonna change my positions.”
The last couple weeks have been real tough. Do you feel a relief that its over?
“You feel a sadness that its over because you want to win. And more than that you want to believe that what you can do is exceptional or its unique, that you can provide the kind of leadership that isn’t available. So there is a sadness about that. I am very proud of the campaign that we ran. Obviously disappointed with the result. I believe we have a campaign, now I am talking about the substance of the campaign. I think we have a campaign that we can be very proud of. It was extremely issues oriented. It could be one of the problems with it. I don’t know, that’s one of the things someone has to look at.
Would you run for president again? What is next for you?
“I’m not thinking about public office right now. I never make ‘never’ statements. I found in life, when you make a never statement, you could still change your mind, but you have it up on YOUTUBE nowadays….so I am going to take a couple of weeks and Judith and I will figurre that out. But I do expect to remain active in private life and I will remain active in politics.”

Let us look at McCain’s conservative credentials:
-IMMIGRATION: he wrote the bill granting amnesty to illegal immigrants (co-sponsored by Ted Kennedy)
-SOCIAL SECURITY: he voted to give your social security money to illegal immigrants
-TAXES: he voted against the Bush tax cuts multiple times (he has since flip-flopped and has campaigned as a lifelong tax-cutter)
-RHETORIC: he routinely engages in Democratic class warfare against big companies in America, particularly the “evil” drug companies who research cures to debilitating diseases for a profit
-ECONOMY: as recently as December 2007 he admitted “he does not know the economy very well” and needed to get better at it
-1ST AMENDMENT: he wrote the McCain-Feingold campaign finance bill that was declared to be an unconstitutional infringement of the 1st Amendment (co-sponsored by ultra-liberal Democrat Russ Feingold)
-2ND AMENDMENT: he was called the “worst 2nd amendment candidate” by the president of the NRA
-ENERGY TAX: wrote a bill (co-sponsored by his buddy Lieberman) imposing a massive tax on energy which, according to the Department of Energy, would drastically raise the price of gasoline and put 300,000 Americans out of work
-GLOBAL WARMING: supports radical global warming legislation which involved him voting with every Democrat; think only America is responsible to take action, not other superpowers
-JUDGES: he joined forces with Democrats (Gang of 14) to block the Senate Republican’s attempt to confirm conservative, strict constructionist judges
-WAR ON TERROR: fought with Hillary Clinton to demand that terrorists be given a full American trial
-GAY MARRIAGE: he joined liberals to fight against a federal marriage amendment supporting the institution of traditional marriage
-CHRISTIANS: campaigning in 2000, he famously described Christian leaders as “agents of intolerance”
-PRO-LIFE: he filed an amicus brief against pro-life advocates in Wisconsin
-BI-PARTISANSHIP: he met with leading Democrats in 2004 to discuss the possibility of being John Kerry’s Vice-President
-PROFESSIONAL ETHICS: ringleader of the infamous Keating 5 ethical scandal which cost US tax payers $160 billion (Google it)
-PERSONAL ETHICS: McCain cheated on his first wife after she had a severe accident that left her partially disabled. He then divorced her and married his multi-millionaire mistress, whose daddy bought McCain a spot in the Congress
I use to support Huckabee, but a vote for him now means a vote for McCain AMNESTY. Vote Romney to save the conservative movement from the New York Time’s favorite Republican, Juan McCain.
Dan,
You’ve been copying and pasting this gibberish all day.
As a Huckabee supporter, I’d bet my life savings you have never supported him.
No one who does (or ever did) could vote for Slick Mitt/Fee Fee/the Plastic Transformer.
PEOPLE PLEASE WAKE UP!!! Most of these candidates, whether Democrats or Republicans are one in the same. Their interests lie within their own investors, i.e. lobbyists, bankers, corporations and lawyers. Simply take a look at their funds. Most of their campaign money comes from the latter.
Do you honestly believe these individuals strive for the good of the American people?
The one who seems remotely honest and who doesn’t seem to be getting the correct coverage from the media outlets is Dr. Ron Paul. He has the most support from military funds, NOT Mc Cain.
Even earlier this week Giuliani admitted Ron Paul won all the debates. This is about the correct leader for AMERICA, NOT for the Democrats not for the Republicans because Dr. Paul is really a Libertarian and Constitutionalist.
Let go of your labels and support a REAL PATRIOT, who will NOT support unnecessary wars like
Mc Cain, Clinton or Romney. Dr. Paul knows of the corruption in the IRS through the private bank we know as the Federal Reserve. He knows of the UNconstitutional principles of the Patriot Act. But most importantly, he wants to change this for the good of the people, and NOT his investors.
I’m not telling you to vote for him, but at least look at his record and his unrecognized support.
Mike Huckabee has not been given a fair shake in the media… how do you announce a guy out of the race when he looses a state with 30% of the vote and is still 2nd in delegate count with high showing in several polls of Super Tuesday states… yet the media blackout of Mike Huckabee and their constant chanting of a “two-man race” and how that “Florida will determine…” was dishonest and disheartening.
When will America stop the media from telling them how to think. Sad day for sure. I still believe Mike Huckabee is the best man for the job and will continue to back him all the way! I’ve already decided that come November, if his name is not on the ballot I’ll be writing it on the ballot. As a Christian I’ve decided to vote conscience over party… the Republican party has obviously come to the place where they believe Christians will vote for them as the least of two evils. WRONG. You’ll not use me anymore… McCain does not have a chance against Hillary Clinton / Obama. The only candidate that can unite America and bring victory against them in November is Mike Huckabee.
If you’re a Christian reading this post, please ask yourself… Is God more concerned about our economy, our security, or our morality? If we vote against morality (Mitt Romney weather vane or McCain who will not pledge to an amendment to protect marriage / life) how can we expect God to bless our economy or provide us security… there is not a man that can guarantee either of those… but there is a man who is consistent on his morals and will lead America up! Vote Mike Huckabee!!!!
Huckabee is pandering to McCain. Why else would he stay in the race except to draw votes away from MITT. Huck fans, you need to face the truth….. YOUR GUY IS NOT GOING TO WIN! Mitt has the only chance of winning on the conservative ticket. If you vote for McCain, the Ronald Reagan erra is over! and we end up with a compromised republican ticket that looks like Joe Lieberman’s ticket.
VOTE for MITT…. I just donated another $250 to his campaign today.
How can you say that? Huckabee has ALL the southern states! If you want to get Mccain out then you need to be voting for Huckabee. I am so SICK of this media making it look like a two man race!!!!!
Huckabee 08
Stop saying he is trying to be a VP and trying to steal votes from Romney. You Romney fans are just upset he didn’t win and you guys are using false accusations. All the sudden its”hey Huckabee wants to be VP”. He’s for Mccain! NO hes ALWAYS been in this to win. Now the media is getting scared because they never thought he’d make it this far! Guess what, he’s GOING TO WIN!!!!! Wake up, Huckabee has just as much of a chance as Romney!
STOP LISTENING TO THE MEDIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mitt is the man! He is the conservative who has the experience, leadership, and morals we need to lead our nation. True conservatives are not blinded by the liberality of McCain. You are the best candidate for the job. You have my vote!
We support you overseas!
Go Romney 2008!
Also think about it, the southern states have a LOT of delegates, you know that those people there are not going to go for Romney any more than South Caolina did. So really if you want to look at it being a two man race on super tuesday…that would be Mccain and Huckabee.
The media just loves Mitt and will do ANYTHING TO make it look like Huckabee is out….that he doesn’t have a chance. So for you guys to say oh he’s just in there to become a VP is stupid.

LET’S BE REALISTIC!!!
I like Gov. Huckabee, I admire his credentials, just as I admire Gov. Romney’s credentials, moral values and conservative beliefs.
But Gov. Huckabee doesn’t have a chance to the nomination (4th place in Florida, only place he won is Iowa). He couldn’t even win South Carolina a southern state.
If we keep dreaming that he can make it; we will wake up to a post-primary nightmare when McCain is nominated.
So it is time for all MITTS, FREDS AND HUCKS
Conservatives Unite!!! Support Gov. Mitt Romney
I use to support Huckabee, but a vote for him now means a vote for McCain AMNESTY. Vote Romney to save the conservative movement from the New York Time’s favorite Republican, Juan McCain.
Juan McCain? Well, at least you don’t try to hide the fact that for you, anti-immigration really is racism.
Well all you Mitt People can sugar coat it all you want, but the fact is that you lost …. plain and simple. McCain and Huccabee are the only two decent people left in this race. When Mitt gets his hat handed to him on FEB 5th you’ll see just how much you are in the minority when it comes to people who carry GOP voting cards. Its about time we return to the styles of Teddy Roosevelt.
Now for the next 5 comments from the Mittbots that live on computers all day.
Wow, Melissa and Dan sure think a lot a like! Did they pass that out at the latest meeting of the delusional for Romney?
Someone must have put something in the Green Jello at Mitts events.
DONT LISTEN TO THE MEDIA READ THIS
If you’re scoring at home, it’s 0-4. That would be Mitt Romney’s record in contested states where his father was not a 3-term governor. By any measure, that can’t inspire a lot of confidence at Camp Willard. The guess here is when the filing deadline arrives Thursday (and not a minute before), the former governor of Massachusetts will admit to plugging more than $30,000,000 of his own money into this race. Keep in mind, that number will be reflective through 2007 only. He undoubtedly frittered away much more of his hard-earned fortune once the votes started coming in. While Romney is gloriously wealthy, he’s not Ross Perot-crazy-throw a few thousand dollars on the fire because it’s getting chilly in here-wealthy. At this point, the aspirant has probably waved goodbye to 15% of his net worth. I’m starting to get the feeling I get watching Deal or No Deal when some poor sap turns down 100 grand from the banker because they “just know” they have the winning case. Predictably, they go bust and walk away with a couple hundred bucks and the home version of the game.
Now for the really bad news. He can’t win. Despite outspending opponents at every turn by rates of ten and twenty to one; when Mitt Romney presents himself as a candidate to the republican electorate; they listen, take measure and find him wanting. The rural mid-westerners, the northeastern neighbors, the good folks of Dixie, and the melting pot that makes up the Sunshine state, all took a long look and said, “No thanks.” The “path to victory” you always hear campaigns trumpet, simply doesn’t exist. And all the chirping the Clear Channel cheerleaders can muster won’t create one.
Since 1968 the track to republican victory has been found south of the Mason-Dixon line. For Romney, this almost derails his campaign before it gets out of the station. In South Carolina Mitt spent money like a drunken sailor and got doubled up by TWO competitors. The Bible Belt won’t buy what Romney’s selling no matter who’s vouching for him. His record flies in the face of the values those voters hold dear. Romney had troubling stances as a Massachusetts politician with regard to abortion, gun control, government mandated health care and stem-cell research. But wait, there’s more! Now we know, long before a disembodied voice was whispering sweet nothings in his ear at opportune times, Mitt was writing love letters to the Log Cabin Republicans. In a 1994 correspondence in which he vowed to do more for their cause than Ted Kennedy had, he wrote the following in reference to Bill Clinton’s Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell military policy:
“I believe that the Clinton compromise was a step in the right direction. I am also convinced that it is the first in a number of steps that will ultimately lead to gays and lesbians being able to serve openly and honestly in our nations military.”
That plays well in Soho and Hollywood but I wouldn’t recommend the governor includes that in his stump speech in Georgia. To be sure, the South is in play, just not for Mitt. Mike Huckabee looks very solid in several of the southern Super Tuesday states and his chief rival appears to be John McCain. So where can Romney win?
Romney’s past centrist (to be kind) positions should help him in the northeast and west coast. Unfortunately, those areas are in McCain’s wheelhouse. The Manhattan elites and the left coast libs simply adore Mac. (As much as they can adore someone with an R next to their name) While that won’t buy him a cup of coffee in November, (no matter what he says) it will garner him the lion’s share of the delegates that come from those regions. So, again, where can Romney win?
He has already shown us. Mitt Romney, the picture-perfect, well-heeled, establishment candidate with countless hours of free advertising emanating from radios every day; can pick off a couple of rustbelt states with terrible economies and a few more in the mountain west where high Mormon populations will push him over the top. (Yes Virginia, there is a candidate counting on identity politics.) That showing won’t get him a good seat on the floor in St. Paul, much less the nomination. So, John McCain is a good choice, right?
Wrong. The senator from Arizona has made a cottage industry out of thumbing his nose at conservative principles. You don’t get cameos in big budget movies because you unwaveringly toe the conservative line. Remember Jesse Helms in Lethal Weapon 2? Neither do I. Senator McCain, for all his faults, is a leader. It’s his name on the campaign finance disaster that curtails free speech and gave rise to such beauties as moveon.org and America Coming Together. It’s his name on the amnesty bill that might as well read, “Come here illegally, stay out of trouble, enjoy the good life and just don’t tell everyone back home the deal we’ve got. OK?” It’s his name on the 2004 anti-Gun Show bill that sought to close off private sales and further the registration of guns and gun owners. Yes, Senator McCain is a leader. Unfortunately, he leads in the wrong direction too often.
McCain has a history of attacking evangelicals and their values. In 2000 he infamously referred to Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell as “agents of intolerance”. Here’s what he had to say about abortion in 1999, “In the short term, or even the long term, I would not support repeal of Roe vs. Wade, which would then force “X” number of women in America to undergo illegal and dangerous operations.” You can infer he has no problem with “X” number of unborn babies being slaughtered every year. That doesn’t sound like the candidate real conservatives should coalesce around. Don’t fret. There is hope.
Give Hope a (second) chance. Mike Huckabee, the former Governor of Arkansas, is the only man that can defeat Senator McCain and capture the nomination for conservatism. He served more than 10 years as his state’s Top Dog (or should that be razorback?) and improved the states infrastructure, raised the national education rank from 49th to 8th , passed the first broad-based tax cut in the state’s history and turned an inherited $200,000,000 deficit into an $800,000,000 surplus. He took on the Clinton political machine four times and beat them soundly, despite having the deck heavily stacked against him. Governor Huckabee is the only candidate in the race who has consistently stood for life, traditional marriage, and the second amendment. Closing the IRS is at the heart of the governor’s economic policy. His border security plan has received rave reviews from the founder of The Minutemen and U.S. Representative Duncan Hunter. It’s true he hails from the same hometown as Bill Clinton. (To be fair, Clinton moved to Hot Springs when he was young, but “The man from Hot Springs” didn’t sound right in a campaign commercial. Although, it certainly would have been a more apropos foreshadow of things to come.) This man from Hope is offering just that to voters all across the country.
Over the next few weeks, you’ll hear the main stream media pushing the Senator from the southwest as the new “inevitable” candidate. This, of course, is hilarious since, as of this writing, seven of the fifty states that make up this union have voted. The rest of us still have work to do. My only caution is, use your vote wisely. Because, a fair reading of the facts shows; despite all his money; despite his thousands of ads; despite the incessant exhorting, distorting and record-contorting by those on talk radio. A vote for Romney is…a vote for McCain.
Well, now I have to really choose. Since a vote for Huckabee is really a vote for McCain, I have got to go with Romney. It bothers me that he used to be pro-choice and only recently converted to pro-life within the last few years. But even Ronald Reagan was a pro-choice democrat before he saw the light. I choose to trust Romney; he has been faithful to his wife and to his religion and Massachusetts’ Republicans favor him by over 50% in last week’s poll. So he must have done right by them, regardless of what the press says.
Green Jello… Only those who live in areas’s like Mesa AZ or Salt Lake City are sure to get that one, but still gives me chuckles.
Sorry to see Giuliani go. He was a better option for President than McCain for sure, which brings me to the question of how he could endorse McCain? Why is Huckabee in bed with McCain? Why are these so called conservatives who have tried to win the conservative base of the party supporting (or in effect, supporting in Huckabee’s case) McCain who is clearly very much an enemy of the conservative base because of his long list of attacks on constitutional rights, and the conservative base, and for his continued alliances with the most liberal of the democratic party. Why?
Now let’s all work EXTREMELY HARD to rid ourselves of Mitt “I can flip flop on any issue” Romney.
http://osi-speaks.blogspot.com/2008/01/as-predicted-here-rudy-911-giuliani.html#links
I’m so confused about who to vote for this time around. I’m registered as a republican and loved Ronald Reagan, but all I hear is Wanna be Reagan candidates comparing themselves to reagan and none of the Republican candidates even come close to him in comparison in my opinion. Mitt Romney especially, I don’t think “Smear Campaign” tactics were Reagans style, McCain seems to flip-flop in hopes to win the popular opinion, Hillary and Obama scare the “crap” out of me : TAX, TAX, TAX and lets go shake hands with Terrorist and hope the don’t detonate themselves, and all the other candidates don’t really have a chance in hell to win. So where do I find WALDO??? Is he conservative?
F*ck em all
they dropped the ball
No CFR…
Vote Ron Paul
Fox and the mainstream media disgust me! Who is the genius web site administrator who conveniently leaves Ron Paul’s name out of every article and off of every poll? We’re not going away neo-cons. Ron Paul will fight to the bitter end and we supporters will continue to donate, show up at debates and campaign at the grass roots level. We will not be force fed a candidate!!
McCain will give us more wars. Romney will give us failed economic growth. Huckabee will force his religous views upon us and turn the whitehouse into a pulpit.
Ron paul will give us the only thing we deserve as americans. LIBERTY !!!!
Huckabee is an embarassment to Christians. He exemplifies speaking out of both sides of your mouth. He says one thing and does another, over and over, throughout this election campaign. For example: In Iowa, he said Romney’s mormonism didn’t bother him, then his cronies put out fliers saying “Would Jesus vote for a Mormon?” Another example is what he did, or didn’t do I should say, about Chuck Noris’ statement on McCain’s age. He stood there with a stupid-looking grin on his face. Then in the debate he said that he disagreed but was afraid of Norris. Give me a break…you can’t have it both ways. People let him off the hook because he cracks a joke, but its not funny. He is not funny. He is a dishonest opportunist…he is a great politician.
Duncan Hunter’s endorsement of Huckabee is helping to bring the defense and border conservatives on board:
“I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail,” said Hunter. “Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China’s emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of America’s industrial base.
“Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee’s candidacy that compels my endorsement,” Hunter added. “Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed.”
Huckabee supporters – please read with an open mind
Huckabee has won ONE state…and it was a small state at that whose caucus was flooded (55-60%) by a single group of voters. Since then, he hasn’t even won a majority of Evangelicals in any state outside of SC. He’s come in 3rd -5th in every contest with the exception of IA and SC.
Does he have some supporters? Yes, no question, but not nearly enough to win enough delegates to win the nomination.
Take FL as a great example - he tied Romney and McAmnesty for the Evangelical vote. Among non-Evangelicals he won a dismally low 6%. Single digits, my friend.
Listen, I share your same values and probably nearly all your same objectives and hopes in a candidate, but Huckabee has not shown an ability to garner substantial support outside of Evangelicals. Add to that not enough staff or money and he has no chance. Hey, I wish my candidate were doing better as well, but it is what it is.
I’m voting for Romney because he’s the only one left who can beat McAmnesty. In every state (except SC), Romney has won the majority of self-identified Republicans and Conservatives. Huckabee can’t beat the guy whose butt he’s kissing. It just doesn’t work–Ask Rudy.
Final thought - why not have winning Conservative ticket with Huckabee and Romney? Naturally both candidates would have to kiss and make up. Their supporters would have to agree that some of their ideas would have to change a bit…but at their core they both probably want many of the same things–reformed tax code, stronger borders, tougher illegal immigration, balanced budgets, strong military, constructionist judges, smaller government, less regulation, No on abortion and gay marriage…. Who cares if they differ on their concept of the Trinity? I certainly don’t!
Heidi… If you really follow this stuff, Romney is not the one smearing. He is putting out commercials that delineate the other candidates’ stands/voting records on issues. He has been accused of going negative by the candidates who are ashamed of their records. The other candidates didn’t like it and they attacked Romney’s character. This is what is deplorable.
ie:
McCain’s votes in support of amnesty.
McCain’s votes against tax cuts.
McCain’s votes against the first and second ammendments…I could go on and on.
What you should do is write down a list of what is important to you and then find out what you can about each candidate’s stands on the items in that list. I think you will find that, if you are truly conservative and truly believe what Reagan believed, Mitt Romney will not be perfect, but he will come the closest of anyone left. And McCain will be the farthest away.
Sorry, this makes more sense if I read it before I submit.

caligurl4huckabee - this one is for you
If you’re keeping scoring at home, it’s 1 for 7. That would be Huckabee’s record in all the races so far. For those not completely dominated with more than 50% Evangelicals, he’s 0 for 6. More telling, he has only been second one time. For some perspective, he came in 4th behind Ron Paul in NV and 4th behind Giuliani in FL–Giuliani who everyone knew was dead and not even going on past FL.
By any measure, that can’t inspire a lot of confidence at Camp Huckabee.
Stop trying to cram a single victory down my throat–a single win in a tiny state that was dominated by one single voting block and was done long before anybody really knew anything about these candidates.
Florida Republican Primary Results
Candidate Votes %
John McCain 693,508 36%
Mitt Romney 598,188 31%
Rudy Giuliani 281,781 15%
Mike Huckabee 259,735 13%
Ron Paul 62,063 3%
Fred Thompson 22,288 1%
Alan Keyes 4,005 0%
Duncan Hunter 2,787 0%
Tom Tancredo 1,556 0%
Yeah, cowgirl, those 3,000 (I”m being generous) votes would have really helped Huckabee.
Is anyone else depressed? I feel sick!
As one Arizonian to another, No, you’re not alone. I too feel sick….sick and lost among a party that I thought was Conservative.
We like Huckabee, but after learning about Sen McCain’s “secret weapon” tonight in an access TV show - they told a story/background on McCain’s wife, we are beginning to lean towards the Mac. She is so impressive that there would be only two reasons we would not vote for Sen McCain this fall (we live in FL and already voted yesterday): Reason #1, and the biggest reason: If he has Rudy as his running mate —- we will vote for Barack Obama looong before we put Rudy anywhere near the White House. Reason #2: If Mike Huckabee’s wife is a good “secret weapon”. Some may laugh or snear at giving a spouse so much clout, but we do. If the marriage is good, the two people who are married to each other SHOULD be a unit! Rudy Giuliani has proven to be completely unable to be a loyal unit to two wives [so far] AND his children. If he can’t be part of a family, why would we want him to be a part of running an entire nation???
I feel especially good about Mrs McCain as I have a child with special needs. For those who do not already know, Mrs McCain went all the way to a Masters degree in special needs education. People like her go unrecognized throughout their lives, although they are serious heroes of education. So, now we feel like there are two heroes on the ticket for John McCain. As long as Rudy doesn’t get on it, Senator McCain has our votes this Fall!!!
There are some things that you just can’t compromise on. Some things that are so core to your beliefs that you cannot go against them. (At least if you have a core.) I will not vote for John McCain this fall.
Oh boy, now I’m giddy. McAmnesty has a nice wife. Excuse my while I gag a moment.
Quick question if you don’t mind–would that be his first wife? You know, the one who waited for him through Vietnam only to have him divorce her because she had put on weight following a car accident….or would it be the young hottie with lots of Daddy’s money that he then married? Just a little bit of clarification.
As for me and my house, we’ll take the lovely lady from MA that raised five great sons.
Vote McCain!!! What a beautiful day it was this morning having seen the power of the common people placing their votes for their candidate of choice. Amazing is the size of the win (5 points / 100,000 votes) given all the money Romney spent and all the “encouragement” given by radio/tv talk show hosts to not vote for McCain! And now with Rudy’s endorsement, and probably Huckabee’s after next week, it seems Romney is a little “punch drunk” right now.
To Jeremiah Grant -
We apologize if we don’t know much about McCain. Pls remember, we didn’t vote for him yesterday, because he’s not our favorite person in the whole world. We’re just hoping that when someone appears to have a good spouse, and if the marriage is good, it’ll make for a good First Couple — and if you don’t think this job is for a couple these days, just take a look at the Clintons, where Bill is running for a 3rd term through his wife (and how involved Hillary was when Bill was in Office). And McCain’s wife was portraied as a wonderful person in a TV mag that does not waste any time critizing people. We don’t favor anyone who goes after a “young hottie” no matter what their gender is. And that is why Fred Thompson was out [for us] from the moment we saw that his wife looked like she was his grand child. At least Mac’s wife is apparently 53, so she’s a mature lady. But I’m sure we wouldn’t have approved back in the 70’s of anyone marrying anyone 18 years their junior. Thank you for giving us more food for thought, Mr Grant. We will definitely continue to learn more about the candidates, and we can assure you that we are not being sarcastic. We really do like to get more informed, because voting for who is going to run our country (”family”) is incredibly important.
The canned “anti-McCain” adds are cute. It’s too bad that two of you morons posted the same one, proving that you probably haven’t even done your own research to determine the accuracy of the trash you post.
While I’m not a supporter of any candidate at this time, I will say that I have watched a great deal of the commercials that Romney has put on the air, and they don’t just differentiate between the candidates positions, they trash his opponents positions without giving full truths. It may be a 30-second ad, but have some decency to put it in context. You can’t tell me he sticks to the issues while the other candidates attack his character. They’re all equally guilty.
If you’re solely looking for viability in the general election (which I think should not determine your vote), then I would say McCain is your best bet. Most conservatives with common sense will vote for McCain as a vote against Obama or Clinton, and McCain polls much better than Clinton to moderates and slightly better than Obama to moderates. If you are determined to vote for someone that can win (which again, I think is rather dumb), then McCain is probably the best candidate left.
All the candidates have positions I agree and disagree with, but ultimately I have a feeling that I’ll vote for who I feel is the most honest and straight forward…. even if I disagree with their positions. I’d rather have a president tell me the truth and not agree with him or her than tell me a lie that I want to hear. At least I’ll know where we’re going, for better or worse.
[...] Giuliani supporters are jumping on board Team McCain. Flap is not so sure he can make this leap from Rudy to McCain - at least not now. [...]
Flap isn’t sure, neither is Flip or Flop (Romney)!
I’m going to do something I’ve never done before, because I usually post my opinion and leave. I even sent a direct reply tonight to Mr Grant and, again, I never stay around long enough to reply to anyone directly. I’m going to reveal who I am and why —
My name is Randi, and I have been a single mom since 1995 to two wonderful children who are now both seniors in high school. I did not file for the divorce, as I believe a couple should try to work things out — my ex just adds on wives, like Rudy Giuliani, and is now married to his 3rd one, too. I am probably the ONE person you would think would vote for Hillary, so for me to be on this blog is probably odd. I liked the Clintons until Hillary totally and purposely embarassed Al Gore when they were all in the White House together, during the speech Al Gore gave about all of us being a global village. I was born in Scandinavia and completely believe that the entire globe needs to work together. My belief does not come from politicians preaching — I saw first-hand how countries have to work together to get/trade in goods (the term being exporting/importing). All that any Americans have to do, in order to understand this, is to go back in history and look up rivers/ports/trains to see how incredibly important they were for the survival of this nation, and how important it was to work together. Now we need to look at how the world needs to work together to survive.
You should be ashamed! Google McCain and his wife Cindy. Compare that to Romney.
Dan, I’m with you. Taxes, McCain will do this country in worse than our worst nightmare; the Clintons. Imagin Bill running all over the White House in and out of closets with all the little gals that work there! Hillary doesn’t care as long as she doesn’t have to. Mr. Romney is so educated, so well bred looking, McCain regardless of all his crazy ideas is not a physically attractive person, looks like a Penquin from batman. We can’t have our country with the top CEO representing our country that looks like this with the Stepford wife, very dull looking, musta been the drugs. Oh, God help us!
Republican party is dying quick with Mc Cain. Mc Cain lied to Romey face, and he knows he lied.
Fighting a over a war time table in a conflict that well passed it time… 40 year stay, what is he nuts. American whats out as soon as possible…. Democrates will chew him up and down on this issue and on amnesty for ILLEGAL FOLKS this country.
Rudy backing McCain doesn’t even make sense knowing they are different on Tax issues. McCain is no true conservative, and attacks any conservative that goes against him. I like a fighter, but not fighting within my own organization. Flip-flop comments against Romney are wrong. He has clearly stated why he has changed views on pro-life issues, and stated them well. McCain votes pro-life when it is good for him to do so, (voted against pro-lifers in Wisconsin, voted for stem-cell). McCain has flip-flopped on Taxes (Bush tax cut) and border issues. How can anyone trust he would support a secure border now when he led the charge to keep it open AND has people within his camp that are dedicated to the Mexican constitution and fight for open borders.
The Fight for Conservatives is never over. Don’t be someone easily swayed by media and that crap line of ‘Only McCain can beat a democrat’
Vote Romney!
CNN what the heck is the necessity of pounding McCains dishonesty regarding Romney’s datelines. We get it. McCain is just a dirty dishonest person. He can’t help it, its just the way he is.
and I am afraid Mr. Romney is right, the Government is broken. It is broken so bad that a normal citizen no longer who he is, Romney, Huckabee, or any other. We have no chance of breaking into that inner circle and being what everyone is told they can be as a child, the President of the United States. BS, thats the way our forefathers invisioned it. Thats the way it is suppose to be. But, the inner circle of congressmen, senators, etc. have made it so that that can never happen. If only the nominating committees of the Republican and Democrate parties were honest, God fearing and honorable folks, could that become possible. If only they were, this process would be a wonderful thing instead of the joke on the people that it is. Only it it were still the country founded “under God”
I am greatful to Mr. Romney and Mr. Huckabee for trying their best to make changes to the country for the rest of us. They should be commended and remembered as true Americans who really wanted to do right things for our posterity. Shame on the McCains, the Clinton’s, the Kennedys, etc. who have let our nations Government become so corrupt that change is impossible. McCain won our love and adoration for his service and gained his way into a position where he could have offered great things for the people, but apparently soon became as others, dishonest and willing to do whatever necessary for self service. Our nation is truely on its way out. Only if change was possible through the Romneys of the world would our children and grand children have a chance. Maybe its time for a revolt of the people for the people, a time for the people to take the government back by firing all currently in office and starting over from scratch… maybe … just a thought. Anyway, thanks Mr. Romney for trying to make a difference. The people I guess could still get the “in crowds” attention, but what great odds that is……
If Rudy wants me to vote for McCain instead of him, then McCain has my vote.
I have supported Rudy ALL Along even before he announced.
Boy do I feel sick over Rudy dropping out.
If that wasn’t bad enough, the front-runner is now a pro-amnesty ‘Republican’. Great, the illegals are going to get amnesty either way this year! Almost so mad over the amnesty bill I’m half refusing to even vote in the election in McCain gets the nomination.
Hey RR you should read up on McCain’s great wife before you speak. Did you know that they met because McCain, while married to his first wife, had several extra marital affairs, that is how they met. so romantic and honorable. McCain fell in love with is current wife while still married to the first and then later filed for divorce. Now look at Mitt Romney. He has been married to the same woman since high school and I have seen them together and they are wonderful together and supportive. Ann would make a great first lady. She has multiple sclerosis but has raised five great boys who are also all married. At least Mitt is not old enough to be his wife’s father.

Excuse me, do you know Rudy McCain?
http://preeedict.blogspot.com/2008/01/excuse-me-do-you-know-rudy-mccain.html
Rudy you were and still are the best man for the job of President of the United States. Your integrity in the way you are handling this now says it all! I wish you the best.
Well of course Rudy is going to back McCain, he’s a new york Politician they don’t get any more tainted than that, he knows where to put his nose, why would he back any honest, and honorable person instead.
I know that McCain hads suffered from serious mental problems in the past. How does he plan to handle the presidency given his serious mental incapacities? I am worried about his ability to lead our nation with this problem.
RON PAUL!!!!!!!!!
I only wish my capital letters on here were a lot larger in order to shout this name out for all to see and hear it!!! Thanks to Jvargas on the 3rd comment above. Good job standing up for the right candidate for this country. It’s hard to argue against Ron Paul after you start paying attention to him. Once you know of him and his views, all the other candidates are like bad jokes. No Comparison!
I am continuously amazed how many people only know about the candidates that the mass media covers. I actually hope the media continues its hysteria. Soon, people will be fed up with them and their star presidential candidates. The media’s antics of purposely ignoring Dr. Ron Paul may just backfire on them and get the fed up Americans on his side. If anyone doesn’t see this, simply go to the FOX News website and try to find any info on Ron Paul’s campaign. It is almost hilarious how they avoid him like he is the black plague. If you don’t trust the media anymore, take sides with their greatest enemy………Ron Paul……President 2008-2012 Watch and see. The PEOPLE will speak!
I know that Romney had suffered from serious mental problems in the past. How does he plan to handle the presidency given his serious mental incapacities? I am worried about his ability to lead our nation with this problem.
Dear Huckabee supporters!
If you want Huckabee to get his far share of news time let your voices be heard. We need to bombard the networks with emails. We believe Huckabee can still win! Stand up for what you believe in and stop letting news decide the candidates!
A place to start:
hannity@foxnews.com
Don’t stop at TV shows, email newspapers, family, friends, and senators too! Go Huckabee!
Rudy got shafted in Florida by the Gov then he might be thinking VP after supporting McCain would be funny again if he gets left behind.
