Jason,

Dude, you can always tell one who's been schooled in the rhetoric of anti-mormon propoganda. "By their fruits ye shall know them", "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven."
As far as "another Jesus" goes, Constantine and the Nicene Creed took the cake in that arena. Apostles were all killed off, as well as apostolic fathers and other leaders. Bishops, those who hadn't been killed off (many survived due to denying their faith during persecutions) and being next in line of authority, found the field of opportunity for secular and religious power wide open. As Constantine, a pagan- sun worshiper until just before he died, found power and influence in adopting the Christians, he sought to unify his empire by making it the official religion and come to united agreement on the many issues that were already being disputed over. In trying to come to a uniform decision as to defining the Godhead, their stances changed multiple times according to various popular political and secular influences (even they were swayed by polls). Finally they came up with the "Jesus" that most Christians now believe in, and anyone who believed differently was considered blasphemers and killed. That same attitude is carried down today. The problem today is most Christians don't really understand the historical origins of their beliefs. We're really lucky to have the Bible at all today. Yet even the historical events surrounding the Bible is not really understood by most Christians. The usual response to where the Bible came from is "From God", and nothing further. There were at least 15 known apostles, and numerous pastors, bishops, evangelists, and other disciples who more than likely wrote as they were inspired by God regarding their dealings with the Church. The Romans soldiers would have massive bonfire burnings of Christian writings- eventually after getting tired of watching the fires, the romans would leave and Christian zealots would scurry out and pull out whatever wasn't burned. Thousands of records were destroyed. Many writings were destroyed that appeared to contradict the Nicene creed's interpretations of doctrine. The Bible truly is a miracle to have survived.
The real question Jason and others should be asking is "Who really is the true God, and Jesus Christ, and where can the truths be found?"- John 17:3. "And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast esent." "Seek and ye shall find", "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed."- James 1:5-6. Study and Pray, dude, study and pray.

Anyone who bashes on this kind hearted man obviosly did not know him. He worked his whole life, but not for money, just out of the goodness of his heart. others might not agree with his message, or even believe him, but you can not deny that he truly believed in his heart the things he taught, so where is the deception? In order to lie you must first know it is a lie, but Gordan B. Hinkley truely believed in his message, and has inspired millions to have Faith in Christ.

President Gordan B. hinkley was recognized by both members and non mebers of his faith as being a very wonderful kind man full of faith and knowledge. he literal inspired millions as he traveled the earth a a religious leader and icon. His work ethic carried over into his golden years as he lead his church through it's largest period of growth to date. His wisdom and kindness will be missed by all who knew him or even heard his heart felt message.

Dear Jason-
I have just a few things for you to consider. What you choose to believe is your own affair and you are welcome to it. I want you to consider a couple of things however. First and foremost, have you ever read the Book of Mormon all the way through? If not, do so and then tell me it is not true. From a factual standpoint it has been aknowledged as the most perfectly written literary masterpiece by litterary experts around the globe, every verse and chapter has a premise, points to back it up, and a clear conclusion, there are very few grammatical mistakes, ect.. In a literary sense it is perfectly written. Now, history aknowledges that it came about through the efforts of a young man-Josepth Smith and that said young man had only a third-grade equivalent education, he could barely read, cipher, ect.. He definitely could not have translated a dead language of ancient Egyptian hyrogliefs and Hebrew combined into what even literary experts of that time said was the most perfect translation they had ever seen. I say that he could not have done that without some help. If as many argue it was all of the devil, why then have the fruits of his labour been nothing but good? why then does this church do nothing but good? Why are it's people and their families so happy and content? So, by reason if as the Bible says that nothing good or of worth can come from the devil, it must be of God, and therefore it deserves your consideration and study. The Book of Mormon is nothing more than a diary of a nation, just as the Bible is also a diary of a people. Is it so extraordinary that each nation would want to record their history? In everyway possible the Book of Mormon supports the Bible, without the one the other cannot stand. Think also about this, when Jesus was crucfied and left the earth, and his apostles were martyered as well, full truth left the earth and what is known as the dark ages began. Would a kind and loving God have left his people to walk forever in darkness, without having a full knowledge of him. I think not, it is not reasonable that He would go to so much trouble, send his most beloved Son to be a mediator for us so that the sting of death could not last forever, design a plan so that we could return to Him, and then leave us to our devices. I say again, it is not reasonable. Jesus said in the Bible that there were other "Sheep" that he needed to visit, Is it so extraordinary that if there was a people walking in darkness on this continent that he should want to give them the same gospel and truth that the Hebrews were given? It is not reasonable that God would want to Atonement to only work in the lives of one people and not another. I know for myself that when that 13 year old boy, desiring with all of his heart to know God went to that Grove that the gospel was restored. And it was restored by a loving Father who wants ALL of his children to return to him. I know as surely as I know the sun will rise tomorrow that the Book of Mormon is true and that these things really did happen. If you will set aside all prejudice and find out for yourself, I know that you will know it too.

Hinkly deceived many...........but in 2002 he did state something that I Holy agree with, that the LDS concept of Christ is not the Orthodox Christianity concept of Christ.

2 Cr11:3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

2Cr 11:4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or [if] ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with [him

LDS members are still under the law..........a complex works religion............not salvation by grace.

Hinckly's fruits are good only in a worldly sense.

And I have yet to understand that if the BOM was translated from plates written in ancient reformed Egyptian in the 19th century with no transitional forms, why does it imitate Shakespearean (Elizibithean) English found in the King James Bible from 1611? I must agree it is a cult. I'm not trying to offend by stating my truthful opinion. All the same I am sad for Hinckly's passing.......................

I had the honour to meet President Hinkley three times in my life and was able to shake his hand and look into his eyes. All three experiences were ones that rocked me to my core. I know as surely as I know that the sun will rise today that this man was a man of God, that he was and is a prophet, and that he truly walked and talked with God. The eyes are the window to the soul and his eyes were filled with love, with faith, purity and truth. He has been the prophet for most of my life and in a very real sense was MY prophet as it was his counsel and wisdom that got me through the most difficult years of youth, I miss him sorely. I wish the rest of the world knew him as we LDS knew him. There was no better example and he was a father figure to many of us. God bless you our dear prophet for your matchless life and example, for your eternal optimism in a pessimistic world, and most of all your unmatched sense of humor. We love you and miss you so very much, but we are happy that you are finally with your beloved wife and family. Thank you for just living and bringing so much light to this world for such a long time.

While I am no longer an active member (it's been 20 years), I do sometimes read the things that come out of Salt Lake - sometimes I read them with with derision. I remember some of the things Hinckley said, and it's all about family, community, and respecting Christian ideals. I read an editorial last week, in the New York Times (for mlk day) about how even the atheists in American society respect the idea of Christianianity - turn the other cheek, etc.
It's not fair to call Mormons a cult - that's ignorant. They have their faults, as I'm sure southern baptists have their faults. They simply try to be good and pure. What's wrong with that?
As a nation, even a liberal atheist nation, we still believe in the 10 commandments as rules to live by. That's just a fact. President Gordon B. Hinckley went beyond that to try to show us ALL how to be better fathers, citizens, and people. We should respect him for making that effort.
