Romney on Death of Mormon Church President
West Palm Beach, FL–
Governor Romney expressed sympathy today upon news of the death of Gordon B. Hinckley, the president of the Mormon Church. He died yesterday at age 97. He shared his feeling on the passing at an early morning press conference:
“We will miss him as a family, respect him as a man of great character and courage, but particularly his humility and ability to touch the lives of each individual is something for which he will long be noted. His ability also to talk to people throughout the world and to make close relationships with people in the public sector and in the media distinguish him as one of the great leaders in our faith,” Romney continued, “We will miss his leadership.”
The presidential hopeful said he didn’t meet Hinckley until he ran the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics in 2002. Romney said he met with the Mormon leader about building a medals plaza on church property. He said he was impressed by the amount of Salt Lake City details Hinckley was aware of, telling a story about how he knew a sewer system underneath a parking lot would be a problem if it were to be razed for the medals plaza.
Romney met with Hinckley while making his decision to become a presidential candidate, “He smiled and said it would be great experience if you won and a great experience if you lost.”
He said he did not know the leader on a “personal one-to one basis,” but talked about Hinckley’s memory:
“I knew him as a member of my church and saw him as a leader of great capacity, of great ability to reach out and touch a large number of people with a very personal and human connection,” Romney said, “And his humility and gentleness I think will always be a part of the memory we have of President Gordon B. Hinckley.”
Romney hopes to go to Utah to attend Hinckley’s funeral, but that there is currently no date set.

Ugly Truth About McCain:
-Google “the Keating 5″
-Google why McCain ditched his disabled wife for his multi-millionaire mistress
Gordon B. Hinckley was a great man. The positive impact and influence he had on millions of people world wide will long be remembered and treasured.
It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Pres. Hinckley. He is so loved by the 13 million members of the LDS faith. He had a special way of communicating with everyone, regardless of status, and was a great leader. We know he is having a great reunion with his late wife, Marjorie.
The late President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Gordon B. Hinckley, was a truly remarkable man. He was loved and revered by people of all nations, and all religions. He was a compassionate leader, who led the church in amazing humanitarian efforts around the world.
Thanks President Hinckley! You will be missed!
President Hinkley, reached out to the world. When ever there was a disaster anywhere in the world he immediately started the process of sending tons and tons of prepared food and goods to the victims. He increased public awareness of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He instituted the Sunday School coordination manual program and put everybody on the same page throughout the world. He started The Spoken Word, which was a devotional program through international radio and television broadcasting. The greatest growth and temple building period happened when he was president. He was a great humanitarian and spiritual leader and will be remembered as great and gentle Shepard of the Lord Jesus Christ. He will be sorely missed by all and we know that he is with his beloved wife and the our Savior now.
I met President Hinckley while I was on my mission. I was having a particularly hard time while trying to serve in the capacity of a missionary for my Church. He took me by the hand, without even knowing me, and told me that I made a difference in someones life. He made me feel like I could accomplish anything that I put my mind to.
On a very personal note….I will miss you Gordon B. Hinckley. You were sent from God to lift me up in my hour of need.
I love you and will rejoice in the day when we can embrace each other and talk about the many wonders we both experienced in this life.
What a wonderful man. An outstanding servant of humanity. A true servant of the Lord, showing unfeigning love, and wisdom. A man called to his position of authority by divine commission.
You will be missed my old friend.
Let us look at McCain’s conservative credentials:
-IMMIGRATION: he wrote the bill granting amnesty to illegal immigrants (co-sponsored by Ted Kennedy)
-SOCIAL SECURITY: he voted to give your social security money to illegal immigrants
-TAXES: he voted against the Bush tax cuts multiple times (he has since flip-flopped and has campaigned as a lifelong tax-cutter)
-RHETORIC: he routinely engages in Democratic class warfare against big companies in America, particularly the “evil” drug companies who research cures to debilitating diseases for a profit
-ECONOMY: as recently as December 2007 he admitted “he does not know the economy very well” and needed to get better at it
-1ST AMENDMENT: he wrote the McCain-Feingold campaign finance bill that was declared to be an unconstitutional infringement of the 1st Amendment (co-sponsored by ultra-liberal Democrat Russ Feingold)
-2ND AMENDMENT: he was called the “worst 2nd amendment candidate” by the president of the NRA
-ENERGY TAX: wrote a bill (co-sponsored by his buddy Lieberman) imposing a massive tax on energy which, according to the Department of Energy, would drastically raise the price of gasoline and put 300,000 Americans out of work
-GLOBAL WARMING: supports radical global warming legislation which involved him voting with every Democrat; think only America is responsible to take action, not other superpowers
-JUDGES: he joined forces with Democrats (Gang of 14) to block the Senate Republican’s attempt to confirm conservative, strict constructionist judges
-WAR ON TERROR: fought with Hillary Clinton to demand that terrorists be given a full American trial
-GAY MARRIAGE: he joined liberals to fight against a federal marriage amendment supporting the institution of traditional marriage
-CHRISTIANS: campaigning in 2000, he famously described Christian leaders as “agents of intolerance”
-PRO-LIFE: he filed an amicus brief against pro-life advocates in Wisconsin
-BI-PARTISANSHIP: he met with leading Democrats in 2004 to discuss the possibility of being John Kerry’s Vice-President
-PROFESSIONAL ETHICS: ringleader of the infamous Keating 5 ethical scandal which cost US tax payers $160 billion (Google it)
-PERSONAL ETHICS: McCain cheated on his first wife after she had a severe accident. He then divorced her and married his multi-millionaire mistress, whose daddy bought McCain a spot in the Congress
President Gordon B. Hinckley. You will be greatly missed. We are happy that you are now reunited with the love of your life. You have served us all with so much love and devotion. Your teachings and example will forever be remembered by millions. Thank you for devoting all your life to serve us. Thank you for making this world a better place to live. May the Lord bless and comfort the loved ones you have left behind and may we all continue to appreciate the inspiring life that you and your lovely wife has left behind.
President Gordon B. Hinckley became the leader of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints a few years after my wife and I were baptised. We have grown for these many years under his love and inspired teaching. All the world has benefited from his life of divotion. He desired to serve each and every soul on this planet - to bring a life of joy and peace to all who would listen. God loves his children. It is evident in the care he takes in prividing such humble, loving representatives.
He is the nicest man i have ever met.
Thank you for these clips of Romney’s tribute to this great man. I too respect and revere Gordon B Hinckley as someone who affected my life tremendously. As a mere 15 year old boy when he became our president and prophet, I recall his words being a shining light in my life, gently correcting me and guiding me to a brighter future. How thankful I am for his faithful service and the love he communicated to me and all the world.
I am not mormon but I remember reading how this man had church member go in to help all kind of disaster victums and help people of all faiths and truly loved all people I was shocked to see that he helped All faiths now that is what I call Christ like it sounds like a true “CHRIST LIKE PERSON WILL BE MISSED” sorrow to the Rhomney and other families of this faith
dan, you are a first rate retard
He was a feeble, muddle headed cult leader, full of lies and deception. Mormonism is the biggest fraud on the planet, anyone who has a brain would see that. They are born into the cult, to expand it.
President Hinkley was the most eloquent, clear headed 97 year old I have ever had the privilege to here speak. He was truly a great leader, not only to our church, but the world. His compassion, tenderness, love, devotion to the spreading of all good things will be sorely missed. Our world needed him so much, and will miss him greatly.
Apparently, Tony suffers from a malignancy of the soul. Regardless of what you may or may not believe about the LDS faith. There is no doubt that President Hinkley was both a tremendous leader for the followers of his faith. He presented the world a view of what a true leader of men should be. He was caring, thoughtful, wise, and quick to be of aid to anyone in need. He will be sorely missed by those of us within his faith. He SHOULD be missed by an entire world deeply in need of good counsel and direction.
I can’t believe that he is gone! He as my leader,my father like person, my inspiration. It’s going to be real hard going on with out him! Just cant believe that my best friend is gone! My mom and e wept for hours because we will all miss him and how he touched all of us. Good bye President Gordon .B. Hinkley We all will miss you because you realy were a great man. He might be gone yet his word will live on.
Dan - How long have you been on Romney’s campaign staff? This article is about Romney’s reaction to the death of his church’s leader not a place to bash McCain. And to end your diatribe about McCain with a reference to his mistress’ father buying him a senate seat? as though he has no credentials and hasn’t earned it?
That’s low and cheap! You can prefer someone else for president but you don’t need that crap. It’s akin to attacking Romney on his LDS connections - not OK.
Besides, some of us like McCain’s positions on the issues you highlight. They’re also not so different from Romney on abortion and immigration - at least in the past before Mitt needed to appeal to the right wing.
I hope people can think better than you’re giving them credit.
I remember President Gordon B. Hinckley for his incorrigible optimism! Somehow he always found a way forward. I was amazed when he introduced the “Perpetual Education Fund” to help lift young Latter-day Saints in third world nations out of poverty with low-interest loans for schooling and vocational training that would be gradually repaid as their incomes improved. The endowment for it did not come from tithes, but from voluntary contributions of members, and we put in our pennies and dollars with love and enthusiasm.
Whenever I heard him speak I felt loved and encouraged to do better. He spoke out strongly against the evils of our day, but he also was grateful for the goodness in people of all faiths and encouraged us to work with other religions wherever possible in humanitarian efforts.
Here is a photo essay compiled by a photographer who has followed him around the world:

I was really impressed with Glenn Beck’s response to the death of President Hinckley, Prophet of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints:
“My daughter knocked on the door last night. She said, Dad, President Hinckley just died. My first thought, my very first thought in my image of my mind was him and his sweet wife arm in arm, together again at last. It was a happy moment. It shocked me.
We all knelt down around our bed and I have never in my life felt, I have never in my life felt what I felt last night in prayer. I just wanted to thank God for putting yet another amazing individual down on Earth.
If you are not of my faith, I ask you just to reflect on one thing today. Who is that one person in your life that stands for something. Who is that one person in your life that you look at and just say, wow, I want to be a little more like that person. Ponder them before you lose them. Maybe call them and thank them for the influence that they’ve had on your life. And if you don’t have somebody like that in your life, look for somebody today. They seem to become more and more rare. They seem to pass on far too quickly even if they are 97 years old.”
President Gordon B. Hinckley was a wonderful example. I believe he was a prophet. I’m grateful that I was able to hear him speak every six months. I’m happy for him though, he gets to be with his wife again.
Althought I’m won’t resort to name calling , I’m with Tony, this nothing but a Cult, of the worst kind.
I don’t know a whole lot about Hinckley but what I do know - if he is an example of the fruits of this ‘cult’ as you call it Saxman - then where in the world do I sign up.
There is a popular saying to judge a tree by it’s fruit. From what I see, the world was a better place because of his influence and because of the standards he showed by the example of his life.
He seemed to do what many try and fail at - he lived what he believed and taught. We could all learn from him, no matter what religion we claim.
Goodness transcends bias and ignorance - and no one can say that he was not an amazing man of God.
Thank you, friends, who don’t understand the loss we feel, yet you mourn with us. I appreciate your truly Christian example. I wish more of the world could recognize that regardless of whether or not we agree on every point of Christian doctrine, Gordon B. Hinckley’s efforts were aimed at leading a worldwide congregation to improve ourselves as individuals and make valuable contributions to uplift society. May God bless all of us in our continued efforts.
As members of our faith, we feel the loss of a great leader and humanitarian. Thank you to all who recognize the good works that President Hinckley led us in - disaster relief, educational and technical funs for third world countries and goodness the world over. We love and miss our prophet. He has met his eternal wife again, may we all take joy in their reunion and work together for a better world.
We support Mitt Romney and all of his wives.
We wonder if he will now call the names of his wives to go to his Planet.
He can now begin NON STOP Copulation with them all and proceed to populate his own personal planet.
What a “religion” !

While I am no longer an active member (it’s been 20 years), I do sometimes read the things that come out of Salt Lake - sometimes I read them with with derision. I remember some of the things Hinckley said, and it’s all about family, community, and respecting Christian ideals. I read an editorial last week, in the New York Times (for mlk day) about how even the atheists in American society respect the idea of Christianianity - turn the other cheek, etc.
It’s not fair to call Mormons a cult - that’s ignorant. They have their faults, as I’m sure southern baptists have their faults. They simply try to be good and pure. What’s wrong with that?
As a nation, even a liberal atheist nation, we still believe in the 10 commandments as rules to live by. That’s just a fact. President Gordon B. Hinckley went beyond that to try to show us ALL how to be better fathers, citizens, and people. We should respect him for making that effort.
So does that mean Tom Cruise gets promoted to the top spot now?? He has waited patiently for long enough so good luck to him!!
I had the honour to meet President Hinkley three times in my life and was able to shake his hand and look into his eyes. All three experiences were ones that rocked me to my core. I know as surely as I know that the sun will rise today that this man was a man of God, that he was and is a prophet, and that he truly walked and talked with God. The eyes are the window to the soul and his eyes were filled with love, with faith, purity and truth. He has been the prophet for most of my life and in a very real sense was MY prophet as it was his counsel and wisdom that got me through the most difficult years of youth, I miss him sorely. I wish the rest of the world knew him as we LDS knew him. There was no better example and he was a father figure to many of us. God bless you our dear prophet for your matchless life and example, for your eternal optimism in a pessimistic world, and most of all your unmatched sense of humor. We love you and miss you so very much, but we are happy that you are finally with your beloved wife and family. Thank you for just living and bringing so much light to this world for such a long time.
Hinkly deceived many………..but in 2002 he did state something that I Holy agree with, that the LDS concept of Christ is not the Orthodox Christianity concept of Christ.
2 Cr11:3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
2Cr 11:4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or [if] ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with [him
LDS members are still under the law……….a complex works religion…………not salvation by grace.
Hinckly’s fruits are good only in a worldly sense.
And I have yet to understand that if the BOM was translated from plates written in ancient reformed Egyptian in the 19th century with no transitional forms, why does it imitate Shakespearean (Elizibithean) English found in the King James Bible from 1611? I must agree it is a cult. I’m not trying to offend by stating my truthful opinion. All the same I am sad for Hinckly’s passing…………………..
Dear Jason-
I have just a few things for you to consider. What you choose to believe is your own affair and you are welcome to it. I want you to consider a couple of things however. First and foremost, have you ever read the Book of Mormon all the way through? If not, do so and then tell me it is not true. From a factual standpoint it has been aknowledged as the most perfectly written literary masterpiece by litterary experts around the globe, every verse and chapter has a premise, points to back it up, and a clear conclusion, there are very few grammatical mistakes, ect.. In a literary sense it is perfectly written. Now, history aknowledges that it came about through the efforts of a young man-Josepth Smith and that said young man had only a third-grade equivalent education, he could barely read, cipher, ect.. He definitely could not have translated a dead language of ancient Egyptian hyrogliefs and Hebrew combined into what even literary experts of that time said was the most perfect translation they had ever seen. I say that he could not have done that without some help. If as many argue it was all of the devil, why then have the fruits of his labour been nothing but good? why then does this church do nothing but good? Why are it’s people and their families so happy and content? So, by reason if as the Bible says that nothing good or of worth can come from the devil, it must be of God, and therefore it deserves your consideration and study. The Book of Mormon is nothing more than a diary of a nation, just as the Bible is also a diary of a people. Is it so extraordinary that each nation would want to record their history? In everyway possible the Book of Mormon supports the Bible, without the one the other cannot stand. Think also about this, when Jesus was crucfied and left the earth, and his apostles were martyered as well, full truth left the earth and what is known as the dark ages began. Would a kind and loving God have left his people to walk forever in darkness, without having a full knowledge of him. I think not, it is not reasonable that He would go to so much trouble, send his most beloved Son to be a mediator for us so that the sting of death could not last forever, design a plan so that we could return to Him, and then leave us to our devices. I say again, it is not reasonable. Jesus said in the Bible that there were other “Sheep” that he needed to visit, Is it so extraordinary that if there was a people walking in darkness on this continent that he should want to give them the same gospel and truth that the Hebrews were given? It is not reasonable that God would want to Atonement to only work in the lives of one people and not another. I know for myself that when that 13 year old boy, desiring with all of his heart to know God went to that Grove that the gospel was restored. And it was restored by a loving Father who wants ALL of his children to return to him. I know as surely as I know the sun will rise tomorrow that the Book of Mormon is true and that these things really did happen. If you will set aside all prejudice and find out for yourself, I know that you will know it too.
President Gordan B. hinkley was recognized by both members and non mebers of his faith as being a very wonderful kind man full of faith and knowledge. he literal inspired millions as he traveled the earth a a religious leader and icon. His work ethic carried over into his golden years as he lead his church through it’s largest period of growth to date. His wisdom and kindness will be missed by all who knew him or even heard his heart felt message.
Anyone who bashes on this kind hearted man obviosly did not know him. He worked his whole life, but not for money, just out of the goodness of his heart. others might not agree with his message, or even believe him, but you can not deny that he truly believed in his heart the things he taught, so where is the deception? In order to lie you must first know it is a lie, but Gordan B. Hinkley truely believed in his message, and has inspired millions to have Faith in Christ.
Jason,
Dude, you can always tell one who’s been schooled in the rhetoric of anti-mormon propoganda. “By their fruits ye shall know them”, “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.”
As far as “another Jesus” goes, Constantine and the Nicene Creed took the cake in that arena. Apostles were all killed off, as well as apostolic fathers and other leaders. Bishops, those who hadn’t been killed off (many survived due to denying their faith during persecutions) and being next in line of authority, found the field of opportunity for secular and religious power wide open. As Constantine, a pagan- sun worshiper until just before he died, found power and influence in adopting the Christians, he sought to unify his empire by making it the official religion and come to united agreement on the many issues that were already being disputed over. In trying to come to a uniform decision as to defining the Godhead, their stances changed multiple times according to various popular political and secular influences (even they were swayed by polls). Finally they came up with the “Jesus” that most Christians now believe in, and anyone who believed differently was considered blasphemers and killed. That same attitude is carried down today. The problem today is most Christians don’t really understand the historical origins of their beliefs. We’re really lucky to have the Bible at all today. Yet even the historical events surrounding the Bible is not really understood by most Christians. The usual response to where the Bible came from is “From God”, and nothing further. There were at least 15 known apostles, and numerous pastors, bishops, evangelists, and other disciples who more than likely wrote as they were inspired by God regarding their dealings with the Church. The Romans soldiers would have massive bonfire burnings of Christian writings- eventually after getting tired of watching the fires, the romans would leave and Christian zealots would scurry out and pull out whatever wasn’t burned. Thousands of records were destroyed. Many writings were destroyed that appeared to contradict the Nicene creed’s interpretations of doctrine. The Bible truly is a miracle to have survived.
The real question Jason and others should be asking is “Who really is the true God, and Jesus Christ, and where can the truths be found?”- John 17:3. “And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast esent.” “Seek and ye shall find”, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.”- James 1:5-6. Study and Pray, dude, study and pray.
Love your bro
