Romney: “The biscuits are good, but I like the chicken.”
Lutz, FL–
Governor Romney is known for running three to five miles every other day and starting his day with a bag of his wife’s homemade heart-healthy granola. But there he was at lunch today, like the Bill Clinton of 1992, stopping into a KFC for a fast-food fix. There was no broiled chicken left, so he ordered fried chicken, mashed potatoes, cole slaw, and a piping-hot biscuit. The weight-conscious former governor used a plastic knife and fork to gingerly peel the skin off the fried chicken. He then tried to convince the press corps that KFC won’t clog your arteries:
“This is healthy, “ Romney said. “I take the skin off. I’m taking off the fried and the skin. Underneath it is plain old chicken.”
His ever-solicitous press secretary, Eric Fehrnstom, who usually offers information about esoteric policy tidbits, showed he is just as well versed when it comes to greasy food.
“I double-checked the nutrition information: no saturated fat, no trans fat,” Fehnrstrom told Romney.
He also talked music, mentioning a new song that has made his iPod list, “Ahead of My Time,” by Swedish dance band, Teddybears which has joined older favorites by Roy Orbison and The Eagles.
Romney made it clear that he doesn’t like sandwiches and he prefers hot food for lunch. But asked what his favorite part of the meal is, he hedged.
“The biscuit, the biscuits are good,” Romney said, “but I like the chicken.”

Breaking News from FOX . . .
Romney eats chicken - update at 11!
Less than 10 minutes after the polls close, every major news entity calls the race for Obama. They haven’t even closed to doors and the press is already handing the win to Obama.
Hillary Clinton’s three wins took over 2-3 hours to call. The press analyzed and waited until every percent was in to declare Clinton as a winner when she had over 5%.
Free rides don’t get much freer.
I agree with you, Dan. I suspect the Dems would LOVE for McCain to be the nominee. They know they’d take him down like a bag of dust in the general campaign.
Fine with me. If McCain is nominated, I just as soon vote for the Dem nominee. If the country is to be served a very raw economic deal, I’d prefer it to be served by a Democrat.
Romney! He can’t even eat chicken like a man…. Little voice: say you like biscuits
Good one, Ed!
This is news? Whats next Mitts bathroom routine?
“Romney ran against Senator Edward M. Kennedy in 1994. During a debate, Romney declared: ‘I believe that abortion should be safe and legal in this country. I have since the time that my mom took that position when she ran in 1970 as a US Senate candidate. I believe that since Roe v. Wade has been the law for 20 years we should sustain and support it.’ ”
(NOTE: Romney has supported abortion since before the 1972 Roe v. Wade ruling!)
- Boston Globe, 3/2/2006
“On a questionnaire Planned Parenthood gave to the gubernatorial candidates in 2002, Romney answered ”yes” to the question, ‘Do you support the substance of the Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade?’ Romney also professed support for state funding of abortion services for low-income women, [Erin] Rowland [spokeswoman for the Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts] said.”
- Boston Globe, 3/25/2005
“Marie Sturgis, legislative director of Massachusetts Citizens for Life, said she hasn’t detected any change in Romney’s stance. The group considers Romney to be an abortion-rights supporter, as do national antiabortion groups such as the Family Research Council.”
- Boston Globe, 3/25/2005
Both times Romney ran for public office - in 1994 running for US Senate against Ted Kennedy and in 2002 running for Governor of Massachusetts - he sought and received the formal endorsement of the Log Cabin Republican (LCR) Club PAC. This is the same group that in 2004 spent $1 million nationally in key swing states on TV ads that attacked President Bush for supporting a federal Marriage Protection Amendment
The annual “Gay Pride” events in Boston, as in other cities across the country, regularly feature obscene and degrading floats, handouts, and activities:
“During his 2002 gubernatorial run his campaign distributed bright pink flyers during Pride that declared ‘Mitt and Kerry [running mate Kerry Healey] wish you a great Pride weekend! All citizens deserve equal rights, regardless of their sexual preference.’ Romney also argued that he would not only support gay friendly policies but would fight on behalf of the gay community to secure benefits such as domestic partner benefits and hospital visitation rights for same-sex couples.”

Mcain is going to get eaten in Florida on Tuesday! It is so obvious how mean and spiteful he is. Just look at how he has been acting since he totally looked second rate to Mitt Romney at the debate. He has resorted to name calling and lying. I can’t wait until Florida hands Mitt Romney all of those electorates. Mcain will get even more child-like. I can’t wait.
From what I’ve read so far, it is apparent that Romney must be very genuine, because he supports freedom to the American people no matter how strange their beliefs may be. Romney doesn’t practice or condone any of those non-Christian practices in his own family, but he is not so stubborn and mean spirited to disallow others to practice as they want.
If you look at his father, George Romney, you come to realize that Romney was taught the same moral values from birth of saving American jobs and serving his American people.
Please just give Romney a chance and you will see the truth. I had my own biases against Mitt Romney, but I learned the errors of my ways. We need a strong economy in the 21st century or else we are all in trouble. Our national security cannot remain strong if our economy and dollar are weak.
If you haven’t been following what has been happening in Florida, even God is behind this man now (remember the question in Jacksonville, FL about his religion with the loud thunder and now the whispering).
Please vote for American jobs and help us keep our economy strong! Vote for Mitt Romney.
Go Mitt Go!!!!
Hopefully, other “Republican Voter”s will base their vote on more rational, reasonable criteria.
Huckabee ‘08!
How did we get from bisquits to abortion? Isn’t Romneys take on abortion that he is adamantly against it and believes wholeheartedly in the sanctity of life - but he does believe in the God given gift of free agency (choice). There are spiritual consequences as well.
Alas, only in a perfect world with a moral society.
Being ‘pro-choice’ in that sense does not mean that you are pro-abortion at all. One problem I think he is concerned about, and for good reason, is the danger to women suffering and/or dying from botched illegal abortions.
I understand his earlier stand perfectly - I think he still believes that the question of abortion should be handled by the individual states and not the big bro govt - and I agree totally. He is against abortion.
This is a terrible and heartbreaking issue. A spiritual issue as well. There needs to be more talk about education and alternatives.
Well Marks right and McCain aint Much better he supports amnesty and the Brady biil.Mike is the real prolife, profamily and I am sure he could show Mitt how to eat a peice of chicken.
“John McCain is Bob Dole minus the charm, conservatism and youth. Like McCain, pollsters assured us that Dole was the most “electable” Republican. Unlike McCain, Dole did not lie all the time while claiming to engage in Straight Talk.” –Ann Coulter
“If nominated, John McCain will destroy the Republican Party.”- Rush Limbaugh
“Florida will be the beginning of the end of Juan McLame’s career of fighting for amnesty, teaming up with liberals against tax cuts, giving your social security away to illegals and being the single biggest backstabber to the conservative movement.”- Me
Let us count McCain’s “conservative credentials”:
-he wrote the bill granting amnesty to illegal immigrants (co-sponsored by Ted Kennedy)
-he voted to give your social security money to illegal immigrants
-he voted against the Bush tax cuts multiple times (he has since flip-flopped and has campaigned as a lifelong tax-cutter)
-he routinely engages in Democratic class warfare against big companies in America
-as recently as December 2007 he admitted “he does not know the economy very well” and needed to get better at it
-he wrote the McCain-Feingold campaign finance bill that was declared to be an unconstitutional infringement of the 1st Amendment (co-sponsored by ultra-liberal Democrat Russ Feingold)
-he was called the “worst 2nd amendment candidate” by the president of the NRA
-wrote a bill (co-sponsored by his buddy Lieberman) imposing a massive tax on energy which, according to the Heritage Foundation, would drastically raise the price of gasoline and put many US companies out of business
-supports radical global warming legislation which involved him voting with every Democrat
-he joined forces with Democrats (“Gang of 14”) to block the Senate Republican’s attempt to confirm conservative, strict constructionist judges
-he joined liberals to fight against a federal marriage amendment supporting the institution of traditional marriage
-campaigning in 2000, he famously described Christian leaders as “agents of intolerance”
-he filed an amicus brief against pro-life advocates in Wisconsin
-he met with leading Democrats in 2004 to discuss the possibility of being John Kerry’s Vice-President
-with most of these positions, unfortunately, McCain hasn’t flip-flopped and vows to fight for these liberal causes as president
-if I wanted to elect a Democrat, I would vote for Hillary or Obama
Let us now look at some of his endorsements:
-New York Times
-Geraldo Rivera
-Joe Lieberman
-Bill and Hillary Clinton
-nearly every member of the liberal media (most Newspapers have endorsed him for this very reason, phrasing his strength as an ability to “attract the support of liberals”)
If you are a Republican, do not let the most liberal elements of the media tell you who to vote for and who is “electable”. Electability polls fluctuate wildly every week (+16 this very week in favor of Romney). A recent example: Bob Dole was considered far and away the “most electable” Republican because he was respected by Democrats and because of his military service.
Voters in Florida and around the country, if you are a conservative, consider whether McCain’s career record of liberal positions and ineptitude is actually the best you can hope for. Consider if he is the most electable candidate even if many prominent conservatives have vowed to “sit out” this election if he’s the nominee.
Spread the word to other conservatives before the liberals on TV and in the newspapers steal this election away from the conservative movement (lower taxes, stronger families, stronger military, no amnesty).
It’s nice to see a man running for president that can just casually sit down and eat a basic fast food meal with friends and feel very comfortable. A real down to earth guy, not an uppity up that’s too good for us.
Vote Mitt Romney
VM,
You’re kidding me, right?
You think Romney would ever eat KFC if not to fool the gullible into thinking he does?
Oh yeah…
Would all of you Romney sheeple do me a huge favor?
Tell your candidate to quit calling my house with his automated messages . . .
No, wait a second, that was him actually speaking to me,
it only seemed like it was coming from a machine.
I don’t know - looked to me like he was enjoying it, and he did look down to earth relaxed and comfortable to boot!!
ROMNEY IS A HUMBLE MAN AND A LEADER WITH TONS OF SKILLS TO SOLVE MY FINANCIAL ISSUES. I AM BROKE AND LATELY I DON’T DINE AS MUCH AS BEFORE. I HOPE ROMNEY CAN BE THE PRESIDENT TO HELP THE STOCK MARKET SO WE DON”T HAVE TO DEPEND FROM SOCIAL SECURITY.
GO ROMNEY!
Oh, shut up, Shushannah. Ed, you, too.
What an asinine article.
There was NO broiled chicken so Romney ordered fried chicken. Big woop. Then, he tried to remove the skin with his plastic fork and knife. Big woop. If he’d just ripped into it with his hands you’d have written that he was a ham-fisted slob. Let’s watch YOU eat chicken surrounded with slack-jawed gawkers, enemies-in-disguise, Youtubers, and lots of cameras.
Maybe if McCain, Huckabee, and Guiliani removed the skin from their chicken their girths would reduce some. But then, no amount of removed chicken skin can deplete them of their incessant HOT AIR!
McCain’s last-ditch effort today to save his sorry hide by asserting that Romney has a date to withdraw the troops from Iraq proves that he will BIG-TIME LIE by the last desperate hair on his ghastly, peaked head. Huckabee’s chime-in proves he’s a big dope - desperate to be V.P. “Please, Brother John, pick me! Pick me!”
Our country faces BIG, FAT problems! Mitt Romney SOLVES BIG, FAT problems.
Roll on, Romney!
And Ms. Walshe, get a life.
