In Florida,Huckabee Hits Romney’s Business Record
Fort Lauderdale, FL-
Before a customary debate day run( 5 miles today), along side the Floridian beach, GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee spoke on the positive bounce he expected from the Republican debate tonight in Boca Raton, Florida. Huckabee, told reporters, the debate is a good “opportunity” to prove to the Sunshine state voters that” unlike what some of (television) commentators keep trying to repeat, I have not pulled out of Florida. We’re here.”
Huckabee, in what may be a preview of tonight’s debate, also fired a shot against rival Mitt Romney’s business acumen, and record. In recent days with the troubled status of the American economy at the forefront of issues that matter to potential voters, many political analysts have said that the weakening economy may give Romney a leg up, verse his competitors, because of his successful background as a business leader. Huckabee countered that notion by questioning Romney’s business record, suggesting that American workers did not benefit from Romney’s “transactions” , and further “making a huge profit” by buying companies in”serious trouble”, was not something the American people could relate to.
” I would also suggest that one needs to look very carefully at exactly what the business record is,” Huckabee said.”If it’s taking companies that are in serious trouble, buying them when they are in pain, selling off their assets, then making huge profit off of it then that’s not something a lot of Americans can relate to, except those that have lost their jobs because of those kind of transactions. If that’s the turnaorund then there are a lot of americans who do not want to see their lives turned around like that.”

HUckabee is just jealous his FL poll numbers are taking a nose dive!
Will chuck Norris be Vice-President if Huckabee elected?
Huckabee’s campaign is finished! He is just staying in the race to help his good RHINO buddy John McCain and try to take votes away from Mitt Romney. If he cared anything about our country and the Republican party he would drop out as our country needs Mitt Romney to take the lead and clean up Washington, D.C., and turn our economy around before we go into a depression.
Well, I guess Huckabee has decided to go “negative,” what a hypocrite. Even if this is true, and he’s pointing out the facts, Romney did this in Iowa and New Hampshire and was attacked by Huckabee for being “negative” for doing the same thing
Who is kickin’ who in the back, that means who is out front? Goodbye Mike, can’t say I’d like to see you later.
Romney ‘08!!!!
Funny, Mike. Alot of those companies in trouble are still in business. How closely are you looking at his business experience?
I would give Mitt money to invest, I would NOT give any money to Huckabee,
that about says it all……
Romney in 08 and beyond!
Look who is on the attack now. Oh, poor Huckababy. He is another one-hit wonder and then he fades away into the sunset. Just a week ago he and McCain were hitting Romney for attack ads. Now, look who is attacking. It makes a difference when you are being rejected as Huck and McCain are. Good thing FL has a lot of smart voters who see through these clowns.
At least Romney was in the position to try to save companys. Where was Huck. Oh yes, he was backup guitarist in some back country band.
After Tuesday, Huck won’t have two nickels to rub together to keep his campaign going. He is out and Romney would do well to ignore him in the debate tonight. Romney is going to get attacked by the others, which is fine. As for Huck, get out of the race. You are an insult!
But I guess running the Salt Lake Olympics from a debt into the first time the Olympics have ever made money doesn’t make Huckabee’s comments…hmmmmm. And don’t forget how Mitt was able to turn American Motors into a proffitable company either…nope we won’t mention how that helped to save many jobs in Michigan either.
NOW THATS JUST GREAT.LETS TEACH OUR KIDS YOU ONLY MATTER IF YOU HAVE LOT’S OF MONEY. IL IS WAITING FOR OUR MAN MIKE TO COME HERE.NOT ALL AMERICANS TAKE’S POLL’S OR GET PHONE CALL’S FOR POLLING. AND BELIEVE ME, MILLIONS OF US REAL REPLUBLICANS WOULD VOTE FOR CASTRO BEFORE WE VOTE FOR MCCAIN OR MITT.
Huckabee - get over it. You know you don’t have a shot at anything more than being McCain’s whipping boy. Why do you need to take cheap shots like that–especially ones that aren’t factually or logically sound?
Romney was a turnaround guy. Of course he cut some employees and sold off some companies. That’s what anybody should do to a failing company. You have to trim the fat to make it competitive again or sell it in pieces to maximize the return to those who have put their money into it.
Once again, Huck shows his utter lack of understanding when it comes to business.
Just like a failing business, Washington is failing and needs to be scaled down. It spends more money than it brings in. Two choices - you can bring in more money by taking more from citizens or you can spend less (and or more efficiently). I for one would prefer that government become leaner and that the anti-competitive anvils are removed from American businesses so that we can compete again, so we can grow the economy for everyone (which, incidentally, provides more tax revenues).
Romney righted the ship in MA by balancing it’s $3B deficit. He did the same thing with the SLC Olympics by turning a 200M shortfall into a 100M profit. He’s done it before time and time again and he can do it again in Washington.
I’M SHOCKED THAT HUCKABEE WOULD SPEAK SO NEGATIVELY ABOUT ANOTHER CANDIDATE!!
I thought he was Mr. Positive! He sounds like he’s being a sore loser, and must be getting pretty desperate to be throwing out accusations like this. Anyone who knows about Mitt Romney’s background as a business leader knows that he ran an honest and successful business that helped create thousands of jobs and saved numerous companies.
Did they save them all, no, that wasn’t possible. But for Huckabee to come out and say that Romney layed people off to make money is absolutely ridiculous, and I hope Romney calls him on it in the debate tonight!!
MITT ROMNEY FOR PRESIDENT!!!
Wake up you Romney Robots. A few short years ago your Mitt was a disciple of Ted Kennedy and said he was NOT anything like Reagan and Bush (check out You Tube). Two weeks ago he was hammering Huckabee about “how dare Huckabee not agree 100% with all of Bush’s policies”, and “I’m the only true Reagan Conservative”. A few days later he was shouting “Washington is Broken and I’m the Change Candidate”. What will he say and Who will he be tomorrow? I’ll tell you who, whoever he thinks he needs to be or say to get the next vote.
I guess it depends on what the definition of “SAW” is! “If I imagined it, then I SAW it, same thing”. I’ve been an avid hunter all my life”. HUH?
He needs to take up wind surfing too!
“AND BELIEVE ME, MILLIONS OF US REAL REPLUBLICANS WOULD VOTE FOR CASTRO BEFORE WE VOTE FOR MCCAIN OR MITT.”
Castro’s getting kind of old, maybe you Huckabee supporters could write in one of his buddies, Chavez or Ahmadinejad. There’s a plan.
MITT, MITT, THE FIX-IT MAN, IF HE CAN FIX IT NO ONE CAN!!!
GO MITT ROMNEY!!
oops!
MITT, MITT, THE FIX-IT MAN, IF HE CAN’T FIX IT NO ONE CAN!!!
GO MITT ROMNEY!!!
ROMNEY FOR PRESIDENT!!!
Hey Rex why don’t you do some real research and find out what Romney has actually done rather than defame him for some random comments he said two years ago. Romney actually does what he says he will do. Look at his record. McCain and the dems have been talking for years. All talk.
ALVIN
Hey, if you “REAL REPUBLICANS” wouldn’t vote for McCain or Mitt, then don’t you take umbrage to the fact that Huckabee is basically in bed with McCain and, at best, will be lucky to get a VP bid if McCain wins?
Just a thought for you if you hate McCain so much. Try to see things from another perspective and you might be surprised what you see about your original position.
REX in Orlando
Just a thought. Have you ever gone to a job interview or written a resume for jobs in different industries. I am sure you could agree that you put your best foot forward. How is what Mitt doing any different?
If he laid people off as CEO of Bain, then I hope he does the same thing to the overpaid Washington bureaucrats when he’s President. Most of those working in Washington (including John McCain) NEED to be fired.
GO MITT!
The whole Mike Huckabee saga is sort of sad. He came from nowhere and he is heading back in that direction.
Foxnews is so in the tank for Romney. So much for fair and balanced.
Huckabee shows in this video how superior Romney is to him on the economy.
Huckabee doesn’t really know anything at all about the economy, his just touts the same thing he’s been running on all along, the “fair tax” and getting rid of the IRS.
Someone needs to ask him what he will replace the IRS with. His “fair tax” will require some big government to oversee it. So it will really be the IRS but with a different name.
Quit being a sore loser Huckabee! Admit that Mitt Romney is ten times the leader you will ever hope to be!
MITT ROMNEY FOR PRESIDENT!!!
This is exactly why someone with ZERO business experience should never influence business policy in America. Huck is blaming wage-payers for the plight of wage-earners. Don’t blame the companies that remain competitive by working in a flawed system, blame the system! The government, made up of a bunch of idealists with no experience (just like the Huckster) have set up a number of disincentives to businesses in America while so many incentives exist for them to take jobs and investment out of the US. The Democrats’ solution is to regulate (like Huck’s assertion that the federal government should cap CEO salaries). The Republican solution is to remove the disincentives through tax breaks, add incentives, and limit regulation. Huckabee doesn’t get it because the closest he’s ever come to business is taking money from cigarette companies for speaking engagements. Huck’s class warfare stuff is running thinner than his hair.
IT’S SAD THAT PEOPLE LOOK DOWN ON ROMNEY BECAUSE HE WAS SO SUCCESSFUL….IT’S CALLED ENVY; JUST BECAUSE HE’S RICH DOESN’T MEAN HE’S OUT TO SCREW THE POOR PEOPLE
Yea we REALLY need another rich CEO type…..Aren’t we SICK of greasy two faced double talking politians? They are KILLING the republican party.
GO MIKE!!!!
The FairTax plan is a comprehensive proposal that replaces all federal income and payroll based taxes with an integrated approach including a progressive national retail sales tax, a prebate to ensure no American pays federal taxes on spending up to the poverty level, dollar-for-dollar federal revenue neutrality, and, through companion legislation, the repeal of the 16th Amendment.
The FairTax Act (HR 25, S 1025) is nonpartisan legislation. It abolishes all federal personal and corporate income taxes, gift, estate, capital gains, alternative minimum, Social Security, Medicare, and self-employment taxes and replaces them with one simple, visible, federal retail sales tax administered primarily by existing state sales tax authorities.
The FairTax taxes us only on what we choose to spend on new goods or services, not on what we earn. The FairTax is a fair, efficient, transparent, and intelligent solution to the frustration and inequity of our current tax system.
The FairTax:
Enables workers to keep their entire paycheck
Enables retirees to keep their entire pension
Refunds in advance the tax on purchases of basic necessities
Allows American products to compete fairly
Brings transparency and accountability to tax policy
Ensures Social Security and Medicare funding
Closes all loopholes and brings fairness to taxation
Abolishes the IRS
Thats right everyone. If your rich, vote for Mitt because he is out to help people that already have everything. Let’s give rich people tax breaks and loop holes so they can avoid paying taxes!!! Yeah, Rich people rule!! Republicans have been screwing the middle and lower classes for years saying “we have to help the rich people that provide jobs. I tell you what. If we could ask Jesus who we should help most, he would say “those less fortunate.” Mike Huckabee will help people in all economic situation, especially the lower and middle classes. Mitt Romney will help his rich friends avoid paying taxes and stick it to those less fortunate. Count on it!!!!
“The FairTax is regressive and shifts the tax burden onto lower and middle income people”
The truth: The FairTax actually eliminates and reimburses all federal taxes for those below the poverty line. This is accomplished through the universal prebate and by eliminating the highly regressive FICA payroll tax. Today, low and moderate income Americans pay far more in FICA taxes than income taxes. Those spending at twice the poverty level pay a FairTax of only 11.5 percent — a rate much lower than the income and payroll tax burden they bear today. Meanwhile, the wealthy pay the 23 percent retail sales tax on their retail purchases.
Under the federal income tax, slow economic growth and recessions have a disproportionately adverse impact on lower-income families. Breadwinners in these families are more likely to lose their jobs, are less likely to have the resources to weather bad economic times, and are more in need of the initial employment opportunities that a dynamic, growing economy provides. Retaining the present tax system makes economic progress needlessly slow and frustrates attempts at upward mobility through hard work and savings, thus harming low-income taxpayers the most.
In contrast, the FairTax dramatically improves economic growth and wage rates for all, but especially for lower-income families and individuals. In addition to receiving the monthly FairTax prebate, these taxpayers are freed from regressive payroll taxes, the federal income tax, and the compliance burdens associated with each. They pay no more business taxes hidden in the price of goods and services, and used goods are tax free.
How can the FairTax generate lower net tax rates for everyone and still pay for the same real government expenditures? The answer is two-fold. Firstly, the tax base is dramatically widened by including consumer spending from the underground economy (estimated at $1.5 trillion annually), and by including illegal immigrants, those who escape their fair share today through loopholes and gimmicks. In addition, 40 million foreign tourists a year will become American taxpayers as consumers here. Secondly, not everyone’s average net tax burden falls. For households whose major economic resource is accumulated wealth, the FairTax will deliver a net tax hike compared to the current system.
Consider, for example, your typical billionaire, of which America now has more than 400. These fortunate few are invested primarily in equities on which they pay taxes at a 15 percent rate, whether their income comes in the form of capital gains or dividends. In addition to having the income from their wealth taxed at a low rate, the principal of their wealth is completely untaxed either directly or indirectly. Assuming they and their heirs spend only the income earned on the wealth each year, the tax rate today is 15 percent. In contrast, under the FairTax, the effective tax rate is 23 percent. Hence, the very wealthy will pay more taxes when the FairTax is enacted. In a nutshell, those who spend more will pay more but low, moderate and middle income taxpayers will benefit from the greatest gains in reduced tax liabilities.
Mitt is buying Clearchannel radio….wonder why the talking heads are supporting him soooo much. He is their future boss.
The FairTax proposal is a comprehensive plan to replace federal income and payroll taxes, including personal, gift, estate, capital gains, alternative minimum, Social Security/Medicare, self-employment, and corporate taxes. The FairTax proposal integrates such features as a progressive national retail sales tax, dollar-for-dollar revenue replacement, and a rebate to ensure that no American pays such federal taxes up to the poverty level. Included in the FairTax Plan is the repeal of the 16th Amendment to the Constitution. The FairTax allows Americans to keep 100 percent of their paychecks (minus any state income taxes), ends corporate taxes and compliance costs hidden in the retail cost of goods and services, and fully funds the federal government while fulfilling the promise of Social Security and Medicare.
Americans take home their whole paychecks.
Not only do more Americans have jobs, but they also take home 100 percent of their paychecks (except where state income taxes apply). No federal income taxes or payroll taxes are withheld from paychecks, pensions, or Social Security checks.
The prebate makes the FairTax progressive.
To ensure no American pays tax on necessities, the FairTax Plan provides a prepaid, monthly rebate (prebate) for every registered household to cover the consumption tax spent on necessities up to the federal poverty level. This, along with several other features, is how the FairTax completely untaxes the poor, lowers the tax burden on most, while making the overall rate progressive. However, the FairTax is progressive based on lifestyle/spending choices, rather than simply punishing those taxpayers who are successful. Do you see how much freer life is with the FairTax instead of the income tax?
No tax on used goods. The amount you pay to fund the government is totally visible.
With the FairTax you are only taxed once on any good or service. If you choose to buy used goods − used car, used home, used appliances − you do not pay the FairTax. If, as a business owner or farmer, you buy something for strictly business purposes (not for personal consumption), you pay no consumption tax. The FairTax is charged just as state sales taxes are today. When you decide what to buy and how much to spend, you see exactly how much you are contributing to the government with each purchase.
Retail prices no longer hide corporate taxes or their compliance costs, which drive up costs for those who can least afford to pay.
Did you know that income taxes and the cost of complying with them currently make up 20 percent or more of all retail prices? It’s true. According to Dr. Dale Jorgenson of Harvard University, hidden income taxes are passed on to the consumer in the form of higher prices for everything you buy. If competition does not allow prices to rise, corporations lower labor costs, again hurting those who can least afford to lose their jobs. Finally, if prices are as high as competition allows and labor costs are as low as practical, profits/dividends to shareholders are driven down, thereby hurting retirement savings for moms-and-pops and pension funds invested in Corporate America. With the FairTax, the sham of corporate taxation ends, competition drives prices down, more people in America have jobs, and retirement/pension funds see improved performance.
The income tax exports our jobs, rather than our products. The FairTax brings jobs home.
Most importantly, the FairTax does not burden U.S. exports the way the current income tax system does. The FairTax removes the cost of corporate taxes and compliance costs from the cost of U.S. exports, putting U.S. exports on a level playing field with foreign competitors. Lower prices sharply increase demand for U.S. exports, thereby increasing job creation in U.S. manufacturing sectors. At home, imports are subject to the same FairTax rate as domestically produced goods. Not only does the FairTax put U.S. products sold here on the same tax footing as foreign imports, but the dramatic lowering of compliance costs in comparison to other countries’ value-added taxes also gives U.S. products a definitive pricing advantage which foreign tax systems cannot match.
The FairTax strategy is revenue neutrality: Neither raise nor lower taxes so consumer costs remain stable.
The FairTax pays for all current government operations, including Social Security and Medicare. Government revenues are more stable and predictable than with the federal income tax because consumption is a more constant revenue base than is income.
If you were in a 23-percent income tax bracket, the federal government would take $23 out of your paycheck for every $100 you made. With the FairTax, if the federal government gets $23 out of every $100 spent in America, the same total revenue is delivered to the federal government. This is revenue neutrality. So, instead of paycheck-earning Americans paying 7.65 percent of their paychecks in Social Security/Medicare payroll taxes, plus an average of 18 percent of their paychecks in federal income tax, for a total of about 25.65 percent, consumers in America pay only $23 out of every $100. Or about 30 percent at the cash register when they elect to spend on new goods or services for their own personal consumption. And this tax is collected only on spending above the federal poverty level, providing important progressivity.
Tax criminals don’t make criminals out of honest taxpayers.
Today, the IRS will admit to 16 percent noncompliance with the code. FairTax.org will be generous and simply take the position that this is likely a conservative estimate of the underground economy. However, this does not take into account the criminal/drug/porn economy, which equally conservative estimates put at one trillion dollars of untaxed activity. The FairTax does tax this — criminals love to flash that cash at retail — while continuing to provide the federal penalties so effective in bringing such miscreants to justice. The substantial decrease in points of compliance — from every wage earner, investor, and retiree, down to only retailers — also allows enforcement to concentrate on following the money to criminal activity, rather than making potential criminals out of every taxpayer struggling to decipher the current code.
What is the FairTax Plan?
The FairTax Plan is a comprehensive proposal that replaces all federal income and payroll based taxes with an integrated approach including a progressive national retail sales tax, a prebate to ensure no American pays federal taxes on spending up to the poverty level, dollar-for-dollar federal revenue replacement, and, through companion legislation, the repeal of the 16th Amendment. This nonpartisan legislation (HR 25/S 1025) abolishes all federal personal and corporate income taxes, gift, estate, capital gains, alternative minimum, Social Security, Medicare, and self-employment taxes and replaces them with one simple, visible, federal retail sales tax administered primarily by existing state sales tax authorities. The IRS is disbanded and defunded. The FairTax taxes us only on what we choose to spend on new goods or services, not on what we earn. The FairTax is a fair, efficient, transparent, and intelligent solution to the frustration and inequity of our current tax system.
What is Americans For Fair Taxation (FairTax.org)?
FairTax.org is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, grassroots organization solely dedicated to replacing the current tax system. The organization has hundreds of thousands of members and volunteers nationwide. Its plan supports sound economic research, education of citizens and community leaders, and grassroots mobilization efforts. It looks like Mike doesn’t run…he power walks. My grandma who is 90 runs faster than Mike.
Problem is, if Mitt did get elected, which Mitt Romney do we get? Is it the way the wind blows or the way the money flows? We know the man will say anyting to get elected. But what happens if he does? No one knows!
One of the reasons Washington is in such a mess is because we have elected officials with almost no business experience. They have no experience in running a budget, streamlining, developing effective plans, etc. I don’t want a group of lawyers and ex political activists managing the country’s money. Let’s elect a guy who is used to holding others and himself accountable. Romney has the experience to deal with the economy and the ever-bloating Federal Government. Go Mitt!!!
I personally don’t want any more multimillion/billionaires in the White House. They don’t represent the public at large, they’re too cozy with corporate America, and in most cases, they didn’t get where they’re at by being good people. Ruthless and cutthroat are the words that come to mind.
Mike was a gov. for 10 year mitt only 4.
mitt raised taxes more in 4 years than mike did in 10!!!!
Mark, maybe we should elect another Jimmy Carter. He was a nice guy who related well with the people. Why don’t we try electing the smartest and most talented guy in the room as President…Mitt Romney came from a wealthy family, but the vast majority of his money came from successfully running Bain Capital. Don’t hold it against the guy because he has been extremely successful in his life.
Mitt Romney’s resume outshines everyone else by leaps and bounds. I think the choice is clear.
Mike was governer for 10 years of a state that is 3 times smaller than Mitt Romney’s state (fiscally, population). Mike Huckabee was a governor of a pretend state, not a real state like Massachusetts.
To say Huckabee has more executive experience is laughable. Get this liberal out of here.
Go Mitt
Mike is not a liberal. That’s just an empty response you learned from talk radio. Mitt raised taxes mor than Mike, he was known as the absent gov. AND he sided with Kennedy and said he is not like Reagan just a couple of years ago. So why would you trust a rich salesman that has changed his position on ALMOST EVERYTHNG!!!!
MIKE is the ONLY REAL choice. Mitt’s campign is already running on his personal money..IMAGINE how he would blow the tax payers money if he can’t run a campaign without borrowing money
Larry, you don’t suppose Mitt’s father being a powerful politician, or his father’s connections had anything to do with his wealth?
And believe it or not, the government is not a business, even though it’s being run like one via privatization.
Huckabee has this nomination in the bag. He’s the only honest one of the bunch. I don’t know why all you Romney fans go crazy when Huckabee calls him on something when Mitt has been attacking from day one. Hell, Huckabee didn’t even have any money and he whooped up on Romney in Iowa. Money isn’t everything.
Huckabee is liar!!!!
Government is not a business. Government should not be considered a business to run and we don’t need successful businessmen running the government. An economist, maybe. A constitutionalist, definitely.
Our government’s original intent was to protect the rights of its people. Now, we’re looking for someone to lead the free world.
You all have lost sight of your own liberty.
Good luck with that.
What’s Huckabee’s plan? AK had one of the worst economies during his tenure. Romney’s economic experience in the private AND public spheres shows he can turn around a deficit. Look at what he did in MA and for the Olympics. Plus, in turning around troubled businesses, he knows how to trim the excess, which is what we need with our bloated government. Trim the excess and restore our economy! Mitt Romney is the only one with proven experience to do this!
Huckabee reminds me of Mini Me in the Austin Power’s movies. It will be interesting to see if somewhere down the road we find out what carrot John McCain dangled in front of Huckabee, to get him to act like such a sycophantic anti Romney pit bull.
The real question is, Where do Huckabee’s lips stop and McCain’s butt begin?
Huckabee, your 15 minutes of fame are up. Maybe Chuck can use you as an extra in his next geriatric martial arts flick.
To Rex: Romney was never Ted Kennedy’s disciple… he was the only Republican to come close to defeating Kennedy in a Senate race in recent memory. Being from MA, I know. Do your research before you post ridiculous comments.
Daniel is good grammer!!!!
Carol,
if mitt knew how to ‘Trim the excess ‘ he wouldn’t be borrowing money from himself to contiue…HE IS IN THE RED!!!
MIKE is number 2 on a small portion of cash the others have. I think says he know how to manage other people’s cash MUCH better than mitt.
PLUS….mitt just stated that he is NOT LIKE Reagan and sided with Kennedy just a COUPLE OF YEARS AGO. He has changed positions on almost EVERYTHING.
We DON”T need a rich elite ceo running the country. WE ARE SICK OF THEM.
MIKE will fight hte IRS AND look out for the little people. Miit will only reward his polital buddies
Mark, I’m not sure if Mitt’s dad helped him do the following: 1)graduate valedictorian from BYU, earning his BA degree summa cum laude 2)earn his JD/MBA from Harvard Law School, graduating cum laude 3)average 113% rate of return on investments while at Bain Capital 4)rescue the SLC Olympics from a $379 million shortfall to $100 million profit. I don’t know if Huckabee’s Religion Degree from Ouachita Baptist University really stacks up against this resume. I think the decision is pretty clear. Mitt Romney has been successful throughout his life because he works hard and is very talented. Mitt for President!!!
It isn’t Romney’s business dealings that bother me as the lack of ANY economic improvement in MA when he was Gov. there…
“Andrew Sum and Joseph McLaughlin of the Center for Labor Market Studies at Boston’s Northeastern University placed Romney’s rule beneath their statistical microscope. Let’s hope what they discovered is not contagious.
“Our analysis reveals a weak comparative economic performance of the state over the Romney years, one of the worst in the country,” the researchers wrote in the Boston Globe. Specifically, they found:
* As U.S. real output grew 13 percent between 2002 and 2006, Massachusetts trailed at 9 percent.
* Manufacturing employment fell 7 percent nationwide those years, but sank 14 percent under Romney, placing Massachusetts 48th among the states.
* Between fall 2003 and autumn 2006, U.S. job growth averaged 5.4 percent, nearly three times Massachusetts’ anemic 1.9 percent pace.
* While 8 million Americans over age 16 found work between 2002 and 2006, the number of employed Massachusetts residents actually declined by 8,500 during those years.
“Massachusetts was the only state to have failed to post any gain in its pool of employed residents,” professors Sum and McLaughlin concluded.”

mitt makes me want to VOMIT!!!
Mike Huckabee is the only Republican candidate who can beat Hillary and Obama–isn’t that a big part of selecting a candidate? Mike received more of the African American vote than the other republican candidates, and he is the only one to beat a Clinton. He is the best candidate with the best platform–who can also win.
Who Will Win the 2008 U.S. Presidential Election?
Check out their “algorithm for determining the winners of United States presidential elections“: http://members.bellatlantic.net/~vze3fs8i/air/pres2008.html
They have “correctly determined the winner of each of the 55 U.S. presidential elections between 1789 and 2004”.
Mike Huckabee along with Hagel as vice president is listed after Tommy Thompson (out) and Pataki (also out) for the highest score. Obama and Hillary don’t even make the cut to be considered. Check it out.
To every Republican–send Huckabee money–don’t waste it on candidates who can’t win.

5, 10, 5o EVERY bit HELPS!!!
Hi I’m Mike Huckabee and I’ve never ever ever had a private sector job. I’ve lived off the production of others my entire life. When I wasn’t begging for money as a snake oil salesman preacher and taking granny’s money, what do the kids need inheiretance for, I was forcably taking tax money from productive businesses and workers as governor of a two bit bannana repulic like state. That’s all that I have in my resume besides losing 300lbs. Oh yeah, when I was governor, I lived in a triplewide trailer.
Could someone please give huckababy some tissues? What a crybaby!!!! I can’t believe people actually considered voting for this joker! I mean, our country is in the most critical condition of our lifetime and all he can do is cry about the fact that he’s an idiot-on-the-economy and attack someone who’s 10 times the man, leader, businessman, and President that he could ever dream of being!
Thanks huckababy for your pathetic childish comments regarding Romney. You just shaved off a few more of your votes and gave them to Mitt. Your involvement in the primary race has been nothing less than a distraction and detriment to the GOP and the country. Now will you get out of the way and let the country focus on the serious candidates?
What a loser!
Huckabee’s continued attempts to try and beat Romney up for being a successful business man (i.e. blame him for people losing jobs) is either ignorant or disingenuous. Sometimes jobs have to be cut in order to save companies and get them on track for future growth and prosperity. How many jobs were created when Romney set Staples, Dominoes, Sports Authority, Brookstone, etc. up for future success? Staples alone had no employees when Romney got involved. It now employs 52,302 people (according to Fortune). If Huckabee wanted to give Romney a vote for each job created by the companies he influenced and take a vote for each job lost, I think Romney would make the trade.
Huckabee…a loser?? Yeah, alright. At least he’s not wasting his life savings on a campaign he’ll never win like Romney. He’s completely sustained himself from the beginning while Romney ran all those attack ads in Iowa and Huckabee ran maybe one ad. We saw what happened there. Huckabee shut them all up.
WOW you mitt fans are real uneducated radio talk show parrots!!!
If you would spend just a couple hours doing your research….you will find Mike to be the ONLY true conservative
mitt is a fake plastic ken doll
Everyone needs to stop and breath. Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney grew up differently, that was not a matter of choice. They were born to a family. If they were not running against each other I would guess that they could agree vocally on more things. They are both putting forth their strengths. Mike Huckabee grew up poor and is sharing the truths of what it is like “not to have”. Mitt Romney grew up around more money, but his parents were wise enough to teach him need verses greed and to do for others and get an education that would help him be of service. He has spent his life trying to help those in need. Both men had fathers who grew up without money.
We should not look down on people who have whether it is money, education, compassion, kindness, understanding, skills, success, etc. We a better for associating with those who have traveled a road and become something. The journey is not is getting but in becoming…becoming more compassionate, becoming for educated….becoming for honest…..becoming more successful in the jobs we do. Romney has the education, the experience, the background, the heart to lift others and better their circumstances, IF they are willing to do their part. Mike Huckabee has the heart, the compassion, and desire to help others. They are good men. I believe Huckabee when he says he understands the plight of the less fortunate, but I don’t know that he has the skills, experience, education to find a way to help them out of the lifestyle they have inherited.
I just don’t understand people who want to vote for a college drop-out like Mike Huckabee. What did he go to school for? Oh yeah, a THEOLOGY degree!!!
Then they say, “But he’s such a great guy because he’s a loser like the rest of us, because we can ‘relate’ to a failure better than someone who worked his butt off in college and in the workplace.”
I just wonder if any of you that support Mitt Romney ever truly watch and listen to him in debates. He spends more time running circles around the issues than answering them. When he does answer on the issue he changes his stance depending on what that group of people want to hear. Our country has a lot of issues and needs change, but one of the biggest changes we need is to put someone in office that has integrity, morality, and character. I’m sick of politicians that just tell you what you want to hear and are only interested in padding their own pockets! Go MIKE!!!!!!!
I will be able to vote for a true American for a change. God-centered (like George Washington, John Adams, Abe Lincoln), honest, intelligent, level-headed, asscertive, personable, and caring.
I trust Mike—because he truly honors God.
This great and awesome country was founded by men relying on God to supply everything that they knew they didn’t have, and make possible the impossible—and God honored their devotion.
God will do the same for Mike Huckabee
Very well said Wendy… Couldn’t agree more!
Please listen to the debate tonight and see if Huckabee actually says anything. I haven’t seen anybody since Bill Clinton speak in such generalities. His funny one-liners mask the fact that he has no idea what he is talking about. Huckabee is a great motivational speaker, but that is it…no substance. He is more like Tony Robbins than Ronald Reagan.
Larry, I’m more like Matt Foley (you know, the guy who lives in a van down by the river) than Tony Robbins. Tony is a successful business man while I haven’t made it yet. I guess the difference is that I’ve lost 300lbs and I think the planet is 6000 years old. I haven’t figured out anything about economics or defense policy. I get extremely jealous of people who have run businesses or graduated from college with a business, law, medical or any other real degree.
First of all, like everyone else, I’m SHOCKED to see Hickabee making a negative remark about anyone!
Boy, wouldn’t it be nice to have a president who cared about the little guy! Then he could give us jobs, watch our kids while we went to work, do our laundry, make our lunches, give us hugs and pats on the back every day after work, change our diapers, etc.
It’s funny, I don’t see any other candidates complaining about evil corporations and execs (in other words “job creators”
except on the Democratic side. Maybe Hickabee should be running as a Democrat. Just a thought.
I wonder what will happen when China starts butting heads with the U.S., what would Romeny do? Will he stand up for Democracies when business might be hurt? How about when national security is at stake?
I am a commited pro-lifer and I know that Huckabee is the only contender who is going to be a real advocate for the preborn, McCain will preserve the status quo, Romney can’t be trusted (just look at how passionately pro-abortion he was two years ago!), and Giuliani openly favors abortion rights and tax payer funded abortions. Because I believe you need to be alive before you can make or spend money, I weigh more heavily a candidate’s pro-life record, and on that there is no other option than Huckabee.
I would ask the Romeny supporters why it is that they so easily look over Romney’s disastrous record on social issues and hit Huckabee so hard on fiscal issues. Clearly the GOP’s big whigs put money before morals, yet George Washington felt it was important enough to make it his closing remarks of his presidency that a powerful government without strong adherence to morality is doomed to failure.
Let’s be a good people first, then we will be a prosperous people. Money in and of itself is neither good nor evil. If we Republicans, and we Americans, choose a president based only upon greed we will not prosper. I cannot trust that Mitt Romney, the priviledged son of a governor, corporate dealer and wheeler, and compromiser of compromisers on moral issues will lead our nation to be better and abandon those things like abortion, pornography, and inhumane greed.
Wow, Mr. Huckabee really doesn’t understand Romney’s record. Yes, some Private equity firms have taken businesses apart and sold the assets (especially in the 80’s). Forbes Magazine even said that Romney turned around 150 businesses. . . and no, it doesn’t mean that he just took businesses apart. He turned around or started Staples, Dominoes Pizza, Brookstone, Sports Authority, Sealy Mattress, Bain & Company (One of the most prestigious consulting firms). . . the list goes on. These businesses are still existing. . . . Huckabee’s argument is mute and void.
Mike Huckabee has the most executive experience of any candidate running. He was re-elected Governor of Arkansas until his term limits expired. He was their Lt. Governor prior to that. He was voted one of the Best Five Governors in America by Time Magazine. He is the best communicator since Ronald Reagan. Mike Huckabee is for real and he is authentic!
Congressman Duncan Hunter has now endorsed Mike Huckabee!

US Rep John Linder who worked on the Ronald Reagan campaign gives a great comparison between the Ronald Reagan and Mike Huckabee campaign trails.

Huckabee supports the “Fairtax”. Changing to this system will mean all of the savings people have put away in their life will be subjected to double taxation, including everything put into Roth IRAs over the years. Regular IRAs and 401ks that have been untaxed would be rewarded. It will not just be a bunch of billionaires that will be negatively penalized. It will be people that have done without to save some money. Retired people with their money in CDs in the bank. Many are trying to have a decent life by supplementing their Social Security from their savings. This will reduce their the value of their savings by 30%
Savers will be devastated by this proposal and people with huge debt will be rewarded.
How will this inequity be dealt with?
I also understand this tax will be on everything bought including houses. Does anyone know how people can pay 30% sales tax on a house and still manage to find someone to finance it?
Shawn,
Actually, Mitt is FAR from the red. He has spent a lot of money but he has raised (without his own money) several, several times what Huckabee has raised.
That’s right Guabe!! It’s OK to be broke and unemployed if there’s no pornography. I can’t stand that Mitt and his business experience. He’s a pragmatic who followed the laws of Massachusetts. I can’t stand that Rudy either. He cleaned up times square but he dressed as a woman for a comedy skit. Vote for me and my nanny state will give you everythin. I will outlaw transfat, I will end smoking, I will make everything better. I also have some of this vitilizing snake oil that will make you feel great.
Mitt Romney is the ONLY candidate that has a PROVEN record of turning Lemons into Lemonade.. We need this in Washington now.. It’s the ECONOMY that matters Mike.
Go Mitt Go!!!
What a baby Huckabee is.
