Clinton Talks Economy, Finally Joins the Fray in SC

Hillary Clinton finally made it back to South Carolina on Thursday, kicking off the final stage of her campaign here with what the campaign called a major economic speech focused on tacking the immediate and long-term economic challenges facing America. But if they thought it was major, they didn’t pretend it was new; the speech was largely centered on already-announced policies to stimulate the economy and fix the housing crisis.

She blamed the slide toward recession on President Bush’s “hands-off,” adviser-heavy approach to running the government — a trait she’s often ascribed to Barack Obama. The Illinois Senator has admitted he’s not much of a Chief Operating Officer, saying he would leave the day-to-day management of bureaucracy to others.

“We’re here in part because the President failed to listen to the voices of people who are hurting, failed to get involved in the actual work of running the government, and failed to act,” she said. “Instead, he has stayed at a comfortable cruising altitude, well above the realities of peoples lives, delegating responsibilities to his advisers, hoping the buck would stop somewhere else, anywhere else.”

And after bashing Obama for claiming the Republicans have been the party of ideas over the last decade, she also blamed the ideas of this administration for the economic downturn. “The problem with our economy is not the American people; instead, the problem is in part the bankrupt ideas that have governed us for the last 7 years.”

Finally, there was the familiar talk vs action theme that’s been the foundation of her campaign against Obama since Iowa. “The presidency matters more now than ever,” she said. “We need a president who will run the government and manage the economy. The American people don’t hire a president to talk about our problems, but to solve them; to set a vision for the future and then to roll up our sleeves and get about fulfilling it.”

“It’s time we had a president who believes leading an economic comeback is a full-time, hands on job.”

Gee Aaron, your mommy still has not told you that it’s not polite to be a sexist? And, why does fox keep employing reporters that use their influence to bash others when fox claims to be fair and balanced?

Comment by Max

What if she wasn’t Bill’s spouse?

What if her name was Hillary Smith?

Thank you FOX NEWS for not being like CNN ( CLINTON NEWS NETWORK) and reporting on HILLARY, not BILLARY…

Hillary’s best suit is her own personal economy. Millionaires now, both Hill and Bill, remember when they were ‘beggers’ (sure) having their faithful stage COOKIE SALES so that they could hire 45 lawyers to help defend Bill against his defenseless female felonies? Right, Billary Clinton is the one to lead 285,000 Americans to bubble prosperity again. The ‘bubble’ her husband created only created Millionaires like themselves; folk on the take and folk circuiting the IN CROWD -that’s insider information, of course. BILL and HILL will only REDISTRIBUTE the wealth of our nation so that we all become temporary Middle Class citizens while the nations infrastructure crumbles as capitalists send their investment money abroad where they can make a profit and keep it for re-capitalization. And by the way, watch our great American Doctors all leave the country or retire when Bill and Hill nationalize and socialize our health care system. Heaven help us to dodge this fatal bullet.

Bottom Line:

Like all of you. I know that health care is the most critical, and important issue facing the American people. Now, and in the coming elections. And like the vast majority of the American people, I want HR 676 (Medicare For All) passed into law NOW! “Single payer, Tax Supported, Not For Profit, True Universal Health Care” free for all as a right. Like every other developed country in the world has. See: http://www.house.gov/conyers/news_hr676.htm

“HR 676:
For church goers: less money to insur. companies and more to the church- lots more.
Srs on Medicare: save way over $100/wk. Because no more medigap, long term care & dental insur. needed. No more drug bills.”

But if we the American people fail to bring enough pressure on our current politicians to get HR 676 passed into law before the elections. We will have to identify, and replace all the politicians standing in the way of passage of HR 676. And, I think the best first place to start is with the politicians that blocked the bipartisan SCHIP bills for the kids. Passed by congress twice.

But what about the President. It was Bush after all that blocked the bipartisan SCHIP bill passed by congress to assure more health coverage for Americas kids. So which of the presidential hopefuls do I think will be most supportive of implementing the demand of the majority of the American people to have HR 676 (Medicare For All) passed into law immediately!

We have some very fine presidential candidates who would make good presidents. But none of the top Presidential candidates directly support HR 676, the only true Universal Health Care plan. So I am supporting Hillary Clinton. She is the only top candidate that has ever actually fought for universal health care before.

I have enormous admiration, and respect for Hillary Clinton. She fought a pitched battle against overwhelming odds back in 1993. To prevent this disastrous health care crisis that is now devastating the American people, and America. She fought so hard for the American people that she risk almost completely destroying her husbands presidency. I haven’t forgotten her heroic effort. If any Presidential hopeful for universal health care deserves my support, it’s her.

Also, if we the American people fail to bring enough pressure on our government to give us HR 676 which we all so desperately need NOW! Then we will need the most skilled politician we can get on our side to broker the best health care plan for the American people that we can get. Though it will be less than we need, and less than we deserve. The politician I think to best do this is Hillary Clinton. The Clinton’s are probably the most skilled politicians in American history.

The insurance industry, and medical industry that has been ripping you off, and killing you has given Hillary Clinton so much money because they fear her. They have also given Barack Obama so much money because they fear Hillary Clinton. They think they can manipulate Barack Obama against the best interest of the American people better than they can manipulate Hillary Clinton. There is no race issue with Hillary Clinton. The Clinton’s are the poster family for how African Americans want white people to be towards African Americans.

As always, African Americans are suffering, and dieing in this health care crisis at a much higher rate than any other group in America. The last time there was any significant drop in the African American death rate was when Bill Clinton was president.

My fellow Americans, you are dieing needlessly at an astounding rate. In higher numbers than any other people in the developed world. Rich, and poor a like. Insured, and uninsured. Men, women, children, and babies. And we the American people must stop it. And fix it NOW! Keep Fighting!!! Never! give up hope. There are millions of lives at stake. Bless you all… You are doing great!

love her - or hate her, she clearly is the best candidate (on either side of the aisle) to really tackle and understand the many issues facing us.

I don’t care if her name was Hillary Clinton or Hillary Smith, she clearly is head and shoulder above the others. I’ve come to this conclusion after watching every debate that has taken place over the past year.

Hillary — you have my support.

REMEMBER IT WAS PRESIDENT BUSH WHO PUT BLACK PEOPLE IN HIGH POSITIONS IN HIS WHITE HOUSE. THE DEMOCRATES GAVE YOU SURGEON GEN UNDER CLINTON HA HA HA HA. WHAT A JOKE. jacksmith - it couldn’t have been said better

What I would really like to see is an OBAMA-CLINTON or a CLINTON-OBAMA ticket in November
It would be unstoppable

Comment by Joe

Hillary is really the best republican candidate. Yes I said republican candidate, if you look at her voting record over the past 3-4 years, you wouldn’t know she was a democrat. How screwed up this country is now we’ll probably end up with Clinton and Rommney as our choices so they can finish selling our country to special interest and China.

Comment by Brian

Do all of you realize that since 1980 there has been a Bush or a Clinton in Office? The last thing our country needs is any part of the same ol politics of the last 18 years. Hillary will bring no Change, her socialist views are Scary! Look at both sides of the isle democratic and republican alike to see who out there can really provide change in the way we lead our country!

Comment by K von M

Alvin, if the only meaninful comments you can make are ad hominem attacks on looks and race, which look doubly idiotic when your caps lock is on, then just put down the keyboard. You did nothing but waste bandwidth.

I fully support Hillary. Our country went from having record budget surpluses in 2000 to record deficits in 2008. Gas prices were kept under control because nobody was getting kickbacks from Big Oil. Hillary knows what to do and how to do it, unlike anyone else in the race, because she’s been there.

Hell, I’d even vote for her if Bill became her VP running mate.

Comment by Richard Marshall

Someone should have awakened “W” several years ago. His priorities are anti American and his actions designed to line his own pockets and those of the oil indurstry. Following his Daddy into Iraq on trumped up charges of WMD is an example of the ineptness of this fool Mission accomplished, he has bankrupt the nation. Get the hook!

Comment by K von M

Richard Marshall said: “Get the hook!”

Richard, we tried… twice. The slippery little sucker slid through the cracks anyway.

Comment by poet1b

I like this knew approach. We don’t need a minister, we need an executive officer to run the U.S. government, appoint competent people, and make sure they are doing their jobs. Bill showed that when the U.S. government is run competently, that is when the market economy functions best.

Comment by Dick

Fix the economy. No member of congress will be paid anything until the recession is ended by a unanimous vote of the electorate!

Comment by Laurel Altman

The job of the President does NOT include domestic policy. The President represents the country internationally - trade agreements, treaties, etc. The purpose of the Congress is to handle domestic things like our economy. Bush is perfectly right to leave these matters in the hands of the states or the Congress of the U.S.
And hopefully - no one in government will do anything at all. Everything they do fails and we’ve seen it time and time and time again.

Comment by Darush Mabadi

The Clintons are seeking the power of the presidency ,they will say and do anything to get there. Obama won’t.

Who will provide the best conduit for change? A man for the people or a Women for herself?

Americans will get it right this time. Hillary and Bill need to go back and work on themselves so we won’t feel like they are working on us.

Comment by Peter C

Don’t you love how the theme of this whole campaign is packaging the same old ideas as something new? I’m also not sure how fond I am of a Clinton hand’s on approach in the white house.

Comment by Joe

Big Willie sold the american middle class with NAFTA, and created and false atmosphere of prosperity in this country. The past 20 years we’ve seen this country turn to crap and it starts at the top. Hillary is no Bill Clinton and you clown shouldn’t get it confused. Bill may have balanced the national debt for a year but at what cost, the decimation of the middle class. Bush hasn’t helped anything with lowering taxes on companies that send their work over seas and the money back to the US. It’s almost tax free. We need someone in office that cares about the people not their personal bank account or wars that will make their already rich constituents richer.

Comment by Agita

Is Hillary Clinton channeling Tracy Flick from Election? Where’s HER decency?

Comment by uh oh

The healthcare system is messed up, but I doubt putting those who brought you the DMV in charge of it will fix the problem, no matter how much HillBillary promises to micromanage it.

The gov’t doesn’t run anything well. Having the healthcare system subject to lobbyists and political pandering while leaving taxpayers holding the bill will be a disaster. Who’s going to lookover it? Congress? The same people taking campaign contributions from big donors like Pharma, doctors and lawyers? Voters? Give senators (like Clinton) a 6yr headstart to apologize for voting “mistakes” and raise enough cash to snowball the issue? Look at the Medicare D plan, we’re already paying out the ears for that and that’s just drugs for the elderly….

Comment by Sigrid Walker

It is my hope that every reporter will stop talking about Hilary Clinton as a woman. It is insulting to all women when anyone of us is dismissed because of our gender and the fact that we can feel passionately about our country. We have a male president who is out of touch with the average citizen, has us fighting an unwinnable war, the economy tanking, a debt that will last past my lifetime, and many of us with no confidence in our government, but I don’t hear anyone blaming it on his gender. We also seem to shy away from mention of race, I will admit that it comes up once in awhile, but not to the extent of the gender issue. I think that all of the democratic candidates should stop personally attacking each other and focus on the issues or they will lose yet another election.

Comment by Donna

I yearn for the Clinton years where the deficit was so low. Who doesn’t want to get rid of a very high credit card spending spree (Bush) I just can’t figure people out. Who do you think is paying off the national debt??? Duhhh…maybe you and me??? Probably our children and grandchildren will too in the future.

Comment by Drdv

All over the world men are the leaders of their countries and look how screwed up most of these countries are. The few times that women have held office it seems like things were pretty good. Actually, after Bush, anything will be better. What’s the worst the next president could do?? Get us into a war???!!!

Brian, it’s Kool-Aid, and the only cherry being sipped is from the Obama campaign.

As for the article, “finally”? She left 2 days ago. As usual, Fox News makes it sound like Clinton has abandoned South Carolina while making Edwards and Obama look like angels.

Comment by Florida gal

Donna.. I so agree with you. I, as well, am looking forward to another Clinton administration. Our economy was flurishing while Bill was in office and the defict was paid off in record time. Its amazing how ungrateful people are as their memories fade.

Comment by Ladyluck

I agree with you both - Donna & Florida Girl; I anxiously await another Clinton Adminstration also; things were better in the USA. Financially, outlook, and I bet Crime was lower too. The Clintons really helped the folks who really needed it.

The Clinton’s may not have a perfect record & some dirty laundry ** like all of us ** but they sure did a GREAT job running this country & deeply care about making sure people have their basic needs covered - food, shelter, and to be able to go to the Doctor when they are sick.

Hillary will make a FINE President!!

Ya know, I have spent a bit of time on the CNN website, and didnt realize how bias the Fox News Website is; especially toward Hillary - definatly not balanced news.

Read a article on Newsmax, here’s the short version:
Barack Obama prays during services at Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago. Barack Obama’s longtime minister, mentor, and sounding board has been a key supporter of Louis Farrakhan and last month honored the Nation of Islam leader for lifetime achievement.

Farrakhan has repeatedly made hate-filled statements targeting Jews, whites, America, and homosexuals. He has called whites “blue-eyed devils” and the “anti-Christ.” He has described Jews as “bloodsuckers” who control the government, the media, and some black organizations.

“Do you know some of these satanic Jews have taken over BET [the Black Entertainment Network]?” Farrakhan said in a speech on Nov. 11, 2007. “Everything that we built, they have. The mind of Satan now is running the record industry, movie industry, and television. And they make us look like we’re the murderers; we look like we’re the gangsters, but we’re punk stuff.”

The month after that speech, Obama’s minister and friend, the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr. and his Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, honored Farrakhan at a gala, bestowing on him its Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr. Lifetime Achievement Trumpeteer award.

Comment by Adrian

The article was so biased, i often think how nice it would be if both sides could be more rational and objective, people have a habit of demonizing the opposite side, painting them as the devil for things they have done while unconditionally supporting someone who has done exactly the same thing.
Critisizing Hillary’s speech because it was not new material was ridiculous, at this stage of the campaign every candidate is sounding very repetitive. If Hillary needed to change her position on what will benefit the economy then i would be wondering why she didn’t have the right plan all along.
I also find it very odd that the Clinton’s are demonized for seeking powerful places in their country, all the candidates have throughout their lives sought power and have used it both for good and bad. I think Hillary does strive for power, she wants to be the person who decides the future of the country but i think she really wants to show that she will be a great president, that the first female presidency was a successful one.

Asking Lanny Davis to respond to Bill Clinton attacks on Obama pretty much proves the old saw that may be stated quite simply: ‘Bill Clinton lies and Lanny Davis swears to it.’
