Former Rival, Hunter, Endorses Huckabee

Mike Huckabee got a welcomed endorsement today from one of his former rivals for the GOP nod to the White House. Rep.Duncan Hunter (R-CA) endorsed Huckabee, citing his”outstanding character and integrity.”
” I got to know Governor Hukcabee well on the campaign trail, “said Hunter in a press statement.” Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China’s emergence as a military superpower.”
Hunter said one other quality compelled him to endorse the Iowa caucus winner.
“Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed, ” Hunter continues.” The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well. My personal choice is Mike Huckabee.”
Huckabee in a statement provided by the campaign said that he was “honored” to have Hunter’s support.
“Over the past year, I have come to admire him on a personal and professional level,” Huckabee said.” We share many of the same positions on the military and immigration.I look forward to having his support as our campaign continues to surge ahead to Super Tuesday and beyond.”

Huckabee called on Hunter’s supporters as well as those of former Senator Fred Thompson who also withdrew from the race, to join his campaign.

This is good news for Huckabee. Huckabee has done so much with so little. He is my choice as well. I am fully on board with the FairTax which will have a positive effect in so many areas (economy, illegal immigration, etc.).

Overwhelmed by their access to voters, the elite media talk show hosts are unknowing splitting the conservative vote, as they did with Gerald Ford, Bob Dole and Ross Perot, rather than allowing conservatives and moderates to naturally come together and elect a conservative candidate without the brain washing and negative slandering from the elite media talk show hosts.
As the talk hosts continue to mislead and split the conservative party votes the liberal candidates prepare to win.

Duncan Hunter knows who really is the true conservative in the race. Rush and the want-a-bees just want to find a way to get Mitt Romney elected. Mitt Romney is the same man that tried to sell himself as more liberal than Ted Kennedy. Rush says he thinks the “more recent Mitt Romney” is the real Mitt Romney. But what if he reverts back to who he was a couple of years ago. Besides, Mitt Romney will never sell his Northern style in middle America where gun control is the third rail and plain talk is understood. New York and California might win you delegates, but middle America will win the general election for Republicans.

Well, an endorsement from Duncan Hunter is like an endorsement from the local dog catcher. It doesn’t really mean a whole hell of a lot.
It is always good to hear, and see American politicians commending other politicians. Especially when they regard strength of character, and integrity as important character traits. I will vote for Mike Huckabee, and hope that he wins. I believe he not only takes a stand on important issues, but that as a man of integrity he will follow through on his promises. A presidents qualities are what most of the world sees as what America stands for. His qualities are just what America needs to stand for now. May the best man win, and may his name be Mike Huckabee.
Hunter is way to wrapped up in China. Huck is not as conservative as he seems.
Can any of the other candidates claim the following as Ron Paul can? I think not.

What about Huck wanting to change the Constitution of the United States to align more with God and pardoning over a 1000 criminals. His stance on illegals is pretty weak also. This is what politics is all about…supporting someone who you like. There are many who can support Gov Huckabee. I do not happen to be one of them, but there is nothing wrong with those who take other positions. No one who is really on board with a candidate will be much influenced by others pointing out what they perceive as his negatives. I believe however that the majority of people who see the debates, and sift thru the news, and read what they have done and what they say will come to a conclusion as to which candidate is or is not worth their vote. I do not believe it is about momentum or money or just their stand on issues. Its their history, their intelligence, their likablity, their character, and their ability to convince us that they really are who we see. I have my doubts about each candidate. When I have to choose the best of five mediocre choices, it is the one who convinces me that his ideas come NATURALLY from his own brain that I will eventually support . So far none of them are all that convincing.

Huckabee Supporters, you are being led down paths that won’t benefit the “common man” or the nation.
Whether by design or unintentionally I’m not sure. Just one example to demonstrate, the “Fair Tax.” The “Fair Tax” proposal just isn’t fair and won’t do what it says it will do.
First of all, it is not Fair. Wealthier individuals spend and increasingly lesser percentage of their increase on consumption (and more on investments). As the poor would be exempt, the burden of this tax falls squarely on the middle class. They will be paying the highest percentage of their increase on taxes as the middle class (at least in part by necessity) spends a larger percentage of their income/etc. on consumption than the wealthy.
Second, it would not stimulate the economy as touted. Who wants to buy products with a 23% tax attached? This is a huge psychological barrier, particularly once local and state consumption taxes are tagged on top. This would put BRAKES on the economy, not stimulate it.
Third, If he “gets rid of the IRS” (never gonna happen cause there is no way congress will go along, but even if theoretically possible), income and corporate taxes would go away. However, a 23%+ tax is ALREADY built in to the price of everything we buy in the form of passed on corporate taxes. Get rid of corporate and income taxes, have the wealthy pay a proportionally smaller percentage of their profits in taxes (as they spend lesser percentages on consumption), and experts have estimated that a national consumption tax would actually have to be over 60% to make up the difference!!!
There are multiple other flaws as well.
Bottom line, this is a plan that won’t work. If it was eventually enacted, the ultra-elite would BY FAR be the biggest beneficiaries.
I believe Huckabee to be a good and descent individual. However, I just don’t think that he is the man that our country needs leading this country right now.

I was glad to see this endorsement.
Duncan is the only other candidate that I’ve really considered to be worthwhile in this race.
I’ve voted in every presidential race since 1984 and I hope to be able to vote for a candidate I respect this November.
The only candidate left that I feel good about voting for is Mike Huckabee. He is the one candidate that can give this country the optimistic strong leadership that has been lacking since Reagan left office.
If he dosen’t make it, we are most likely in for at least four more years of decline, debt and disaster!
I would think this endorsement by a long time ELECTED movement conservative will help Huckabee with primary voters more than the unwarranted attacks on his conservative credentials by movement bloggers and beltway 527’s who are largely financed by competing campaigns. Didn’t Hunter win the Texas GOP straw poll?
Don’t forget, they’re supernatural soulmates as well. Both believe the planet is about 5,000 years old, and created by an unseen entity. Of course, if one adds their knowledge together, that’s 10,000 years. At least they’d be getting closer to reality. If society experiences mass insanity or something, and Huckabee is elected, we are well on our way to ruin as a free society. He clearly has no understanding of what is required to live in a free society, or what the Constitution is about.

Most christians aren’t hung up on whether God took 6 litteral days or 6 Billion years. It’s not essential to our faith. Most of us have listened to the propaganda of evolution long enough that many are willing to consider at least the time element as being true, but never the “we came from monkeys” aspect of it(Because there is absolutely no proof of this).
Those of us who believe in the short 6 - 10 thousand year creation time period do so because of faith but believe it or not the evidence of a young earth. The big problem is the people that believe in evolution treat it like a religion and won’t even consider the possibility that they are wrong. At least look at the evidence the Creationist have compiled before you dismiss out of hand the young earth theory.
I’m sure Huckabee values a free society as much as anyone, and I’m pretty sure he agrees with our constitution. After all the Declaration of Independence does state: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–

“The FairTax is regressive and shifts the tax burden onto lower and middle income people”
The truth: The FairTax actually eliminates and reimburses all federal taxes for those below the poverty line. This is accomplished through the universal prebate and by eliminating the highly regressive FICA payroll tax. Today, low and moderate income Americans pay far more in FICA taxes than income taxes. Those spending at twice the poverty level pay a FairTax of only 11.5 percent — a rate much lower than the income and payroll tax burden they bear today. Meanwhile, the wealthy pay the 23 percent retail sales tax on their retail purchases.
Under the federal income tax, slow economic growth and recessions have a disproportionately adverse impact on lower-income families. Breadwinners in these families are more likely to lose their jobs, are less likely to have the resources to weather bad economic times, and are more in need of the initial employment opportunities that a dynamic, growing economy provides. Retaining the present tax system makes economic progress needlessly slow and frustrates attempts at upward mobility through hard work and savings, thus harming low-income taxpayers the most.
In contrast, the FairTax dramatically improves economic growth and wage rates for all, but especially for lower-income families and individuals. In addition to receiving the monthly FairTax prebate, these taxpayers are freed from regressive payroll taxes, the federal income tax, and the compliance burdens associated with each. They pay no more business taxes hidden in the price of goods and services, and used goods are tax free.
How can the FairTax generate lower net tax rates for everyone and still pay for the same real government expenditures? The answer is two-fold. Firstly, the tax base is dramatically widened by including consumer spending from the underground economy (estimated at $1.5 trillion annually), and by including illegal immigrants, those who escape their fair share today through loopholes and gimmicks. In addition, 40 million foreign tourists a year will become American taxpayers as consumers here. Secondly, not everyone’s average net tax burden falls. For households whose major economic resource is accumulated wealth, the FairTax will deliver a net tax hike compared to the current system.
Consider, for example, your typical billionaire, of which America now has more than 400. These fortunate few are invested primarily in equities on which they pay taxes at a 15 percent rate, whether their income comes in the form of capital gains or dividends. In addition to having the income from their wealth taxed at a low rate, the principal of their wealth is completely untaxed either directly or indirectly. Assuming they and their heirs spend only the income earned on the wealth each year, the tax rate today is 15 percent. In contrast, under the FairTax, the effective tax rate is 23 percent. Hence, the very wealthy will pay more taxes when the FairTax is enacted. In a nutshell, those who spend more will pay more but low, moderate and middle income taxpayers will benefit from the greatest gains in reduced tax liabilities.
The FairTax taxes us only on what we choose to spend on new goods or services, not on what we earn. The FairTax is a fair, efficient, transparent, and intelligent solution to the frustration and inequity of our current tax system.

Enables workers to keep their entire paycheck
Enables retirees to keep their entire pension
Refunds in advance the tax on purchases of basic necessities
Allows American products to compete fairly
Brings transparency and accountability to tax policy
Ensures Social Security and Medicare funding
Closes all loopholes and brings fairness to taxation

Unfortunately, in this Presidential election, integrity and character are casualties of the determination of frightened and selfish little men to keep things the way they are, so that the rich can keep on getting richer, while the poor get poorer. That is a self-destructive strategy that will result in the election of a Democratic President in 2008. Too bad the FOX people and Rush Limbaugh are blind to quality and so interested in money that they cannot see their salvation lies in Mike Huckabee.

Mike Huckabee has the most executive experience of any candidate running. He was re-elected Governor of Arkansas until his term limits expired. He was their Lt. Governor prior to that. The Comment by V, indicating that Gov. Huckabee made one bad mistake out of the out of the “1000+” people he pardoned is typical of most of the negative press about Mr. Huckabee. The implication is that he is bad because he is not perfect. The mathematical statemtent of the term “true beyond reasonable doubt” is that that there is less than one chance in a thousand that the thing is false. The nature of pardoning those who are convicted is that sometimes bad people will be released and do a bad thing. Gov. Huckabee was sure beyond reasonable doubt that the releases he made were proper, and history has proven him to be absolutely accurate about that. Less than one mistake per thousand is the bar that society has set, and he met it.
Let me get this straight. Hunter is endorsing Huckabee! And that means that a major Washington player who frequently lobbies for major corporate deals and with ties to the most shadowy halls of political intricate deals endorses someone who runs on moral character and Washington outsider. That’s just as messed up as Pat Robertson endorsing Guilliani.
This is good news. I am glad others are seeing what Huckabee has to offer.

The remaining Democratic candidates are embarrassing themselves by acting like school-age children on the playground at recess- calling each other names and pointing fingers. The Republican candidates (with one, possibly two exceptions) are sounding like typical political candidates, with no real plan and no obvious leadership skills.
Mike Huckabee has very good ideas along with the demeanor to present and move those ideas forward in a honorable and dignified manner. I know that a number of people are concerned about Mike’s personal belief in Christ, because they do not share that belief. But for them to say that they believe it will negatively affect the country is unfounded. Mike’s professed faith in Christ will not affect the country any more or any less than the faith of any of our previous Presidents. In fact, I dare say that the apparent lack of a solid, biblical foundation in the lives of some of our previous Presidents (and other political leaders), is directly attributable to the moral and social decline of our once great nation.
America suffers from an acute case of moral cancer that is eating away at the very foundations this country was founded upon. The longer we wait to remove this cancer, the more quickly it will spread, and the more difficult it will become to remove. If you do not believe me, just look at the history of the nation and the people of Israel. Of course, you will need a Bible to do so.

Who will Hunter endorse when Huckabee’s campaign runs out of money and he drops out nexy week? It’ll have to be McCain, Paul, or Romney because Giuliani and Huckabee aren’t getting out of the Tallahassee swamp alive.

I did over 200 hours of research on mike’s record (and the other cantidates’ records) and he came out way in front of all the others.

mikes governorship (and life) had it’s flaws but in the big things he stood strong and true. think about katrina.
mitt gained his millions by building a power hungry business on that has been alegedly opperating on dishonest terms. he HAS changed views several times on the key issues, and then said it didn’t matter- he had a “change of heart”. lol. i tell you, it is really easy to have a change of heart. it is harder to have a change of life. mitt did not. he has repeatedly lied, i repeat, lied, about his record (including endorsements by the massechusets citezen’s for life commitee, etc), and twisted others records, including exagerating numbers on huckabee’s record.
i don’t want a lying president.
