Will Fred Fight On?
Columbia, SC — So is he or isn’t he? Fred Thompson delivered a somber speech tonight thanking his supporters and talking more about the past than the future, leading many observers to believe that his departure from the race is imminent. But he made no firm statement about his political future Saturday night.
“We will always be bound by a close bond because we have traveled a very special road together for a very special purpose. You know it has never been about me. It has never even been about you. It has been about our country,” he told the crowd in Columbia. “We are called upon from time to time to make our own sacrifices. We are called upon from time to time to make our own contribution. My friends that’s what you’ve done. That’s what you’re doing. And I am so proud to stand with you in that regard. And we will always stand strong together in that regard. We will always stand strong.”
After coming in a disappointing third in South Carolina, aides tell Fox that no final decision about the future of the campaign will be made Sunday or as late as Monday. Rich Galen, a senior Thompson adviser, said after the speech that he doesn’t even know what is next for the campaign. “We will know when we know. We don’t have the same deadlines that you guys in the media got,” Galen said.
(Note: Carl says supporters might have reason for hope!)
Thompson flew home Saturday night to his home in McLean, VA tonight and then heads to Tennessee Sunday to visit his elderly mother who is recovering from pneumonia in the hospital.
Aides were hopeful about a potential surprise showing early Saturday morning but by the time the party began just after 7pm, the balloon had burst. When Thompson supporter, Rep. Gresham Barrett (R-SC), took the stage early to rally the crowd, he received little response leading him to tell attendees, “come on…this is not at a funeral.”

Fred still has a lot of power to shape this election.
Fred need not endorse anyone unless they meet his standards. Heck… why drop out if all the other candidates suck?
Fredheads need to get realistic and support Mitt Romney, the only viable conservative left in the race.
It’s a shame that Fred Thompson hasn’t gotten more support among conservatives considering he is the only real conservative in this race (besides Duncan Hunter). I believe that Huckabee has stolen a lot of Thompson’s thunder by misleading conservatives on his values and record. Huckabee has flat out lied several times on interviews and debates about his record. I too thought Huckabee sounded great during the opening debates but later realized he was just very adept at twisting and distorting the truth to make himself sound good. I really hope Fred stays in the race for conservatives like me, who feel like there is no one else to turn too. All of the other candidates are only feigning conservatism and changing the liberal stances they once held to sway the unknowing public. Now that Huckabee has been defeated in his must win state, Thompson has a chance if he seizes the opportunity to show the Republican base that he is the true conservative in the race; the only one who shares the values, beliefs, and traditions of the Republican party.
An open letter to Fred Thompson supporters:
http://keithcu.com/wordpress/?p=37
Mitt Romney should get on a line and offer Fred Thompson a cabinet position. Fred might serve admirably as Secretary of State. In exchange Fred would encourage his delegates that he’s earned so far to vote for Romney and cast his support to Romney. Romney has the best chance of defeating the Democrats in November and of fixing the economic mess we have.
Staying in the race will not serve the Republican party well. Fred might even call Romney and discuss the possibility. I also hope that Duncan Hunter will come out in support of Romney for the immigration issue, as Romney is the last viable candidate that really has a strong illegal immigration policy.
I believe that Fred is a good man and a good conservative. His conservative voting record is better than John McCain’s. I believe the failure of his candidacy is more due to his laid back personality than to any other circumstance. He could still serve a Romney administration well. He could also serve well for his friend John McCain but he needs to realize that McCain does not espouse the same conservative principles that Fred has espoused and the only person really in contention left that does so is Mitt Romney.
Thompson never understood we the people needed to see more aggression out of him not just for the job but for what he said he beliveved in. A President without any passion in my opionion does not has a the pursuasive powers to lead. I wanted Thompson to show me he was going to stand up to the Congress, Media, and Special Interest and just like Reagan go to the People of the USA directly for his popular support. Frankly he never go off his ass.
The real conservative is Ron Paul!! Wake up America. We need a big change in this country…politics as usual is not going to help…RON PAUL
Hey - Why in the world would Fred Thompson quit now? Just so he can throw a few votes to Romney, McCain the Great Divider or that loon Huckabee? Well my vote won’t go Mitt’s way or anybody else’s. Fred’s just getting his game on. Reagan lost 11 primaries before he got the nomination. Quit suggesting to my guy he should quit just so he won’t spoil it for yours. How about if yur guy quits instead?
There is no other choice for me.
I feel Thompson should remain in the race in spite of the current numbers. Super Tuesday is just around the corner, and it’s still anyone’s game until then. I don’t like Ron Paul, Rudy Giuliani, Mike Huckabee, OR John McCain as I feel they are nothing more than RINOs (Republicans In Name Only) and pander to the Democrats. No thank you - if Thompson drops out (which I’m hoping he won’t and will remain in the race) I’m backing Romney. He may be just to the left of Thompson as far as I’m concerned, but he’s definitely to the right of the others.
It’ll be a shame to see Fred Thompson go, he was reminiscent of Ronald Reagan and was the only major candidate who spoke up for smaller government. Too bad Ron Paul is too far behind, he certainly epitomizes small-government values; he even gradually convinced me that you can’t honestly call yourself a small-government conservative while advocating $500+ billion a year for wars and overseas handouts. I guess I’ll vote Paul as a small-government protest vote.
Let’s see he came in third, hmmmmmmm Rudy last. That should tell you something.
Fred your doing a great job and really is gaining ground. Everybody loves the Polls but fails too see what is really going on. Keep up the good work Fred
Fred needs to stay in. The MSM does not want him in the race. BTW, what a classless act on MSNBC. There 5 viewers must really love them. Stay in Fred! Why the heck drop out after 4 states. Rudy has done nothing, and Huck will be gone after FL. Keep the faith!
Fred needs to drop out and go back to “Law & Orders”. He has no chance of winning the nomination and does not seem to have the energy to campaign. His bid for the Presidency has been very disappointing.
as a wife and mom, i could never cast a vote for john mccain. what concerns me about fred, and i hope all of you who support him will think about this, is why didn’t fred go after mccain more on the issues? he and mccain are close friends. the only negative thing fred said about mccain was that he was wrong on the immigration issue and moved on to campaigning.
anderson cooper from msnbc was with fred when he said these things. it’s apparent that mccain has promised fred something - either pay his campaign bills or offer him a spot in a mccain administration.
fred pulled votes from huckabee which helped mccain. fred always attacked huckabee - even in the debates.
if mccain wins the nomination it will be because of fred thompson. in that case, i will sit home.
i’m a christian conservative but if i wanted to vote liberal i’d vote for the real thing not a washed up rino like jsmIII.
I was hoping the Republicans would nominate an affable, slightly lazy TV actor with incurable cancer, and a trophy wife, but alas, that looks like it is not to be.
Giuliani is gonna take my gun and flood this counrty with more cheap Mexican labor. He’ll probably name Bloomberg as VP, the biggest liberal, gun grabbing jackass walking the streets of this country. I live in Florida, the press keeps saying Rudy is campainging here. He’s not in FL, he’s in Miami making deals with Hispanics to open the border. You should take a lot closer look at this guy and then send a check to Fred and ask him to keep trying.

Love ya Fred. Help the conservative cause and endorse Romney. As the only true conservative with a shot to win the nomination and defeat the Dems, Romney could definitely use Fred’s support. come on D. Hunter and F. Thompson, support Mitt!
Fred should hang in there! This is still to close to call! Thing may not be decided until the convention.
I am a Tennessee boy here in Wyoming. Our caucus was and is a joke. We had NO voice in who was chosen.
Stay in it Fred!
May God bless Fred!
Romney is destined to be our next president! He has the personal qualities, beliefs and skills to deliver. He is not tied to Washington and will bring together talented leaders and thinkers who will develop strategies to put America on the right path to recovery. McCain is too old, does not build consensus and lacks the real-world experience to bring change like Romney will. Huckabee can be amusing but cannot deliver the changes needed or win. Guiliani may be able to deliver change, but he does not have the favorable personable qualities to become president. We might as well elect the Clintons again.
It’s ludicrous that these early states have so much influence on our next POTUS. I won’t support Momney, McAmnesty, Huckleberry or any other RINO. What a bunch of pandering liberal liars. I’ll just write in Fred Dalton Thompson instead and know I did what I could for my party and my country.
Whomever the Republican voters nominate, he must continue the Bush Legacy. 4 MORE YEARS!!!!
Fred Thompson has to be one of the great flameouts in political history. What a colossial waste of so much time and money and a little bit of energy. It started with Fred’s entry into the race, long after his momentum had begun to wain and skipped that debate to announce on Jay Leno. Fred showed little passion or energy for campaigning and thus appeared more like a pizza delivery guy than a President. Too bad he quit his day job.
I’m curious…if John McCain gets the nomination will it be from the democrats or republicans? If that guy is a republican I’m a telephone pole.
Romney slithers around positions like Hillary does, pretending to be for whatever you are for. Giuliani is a Democrat in disguise. Huckabee wants to make smoking illegal nationwide, while pretending to want government out of our lives. What next? He wants to change our tax system to a sales tax, so everyone will contribute. Millions of the aged on Social Security can scarcely make ends meet as it is. The 2007 increases in food costs alone was more than the meager 2.3% Social Security COLA increase (from which the Medicare increase is taken). The millionaires and billionaires pay ~90% of this nation’s income tax now. How much sales tax would they pay instead? 1/1,000th as much? Huckabee was a Baptist minister? He isn’t any more. Check his record. Then check Fred Thompson’s record. FRED THOMPSON is the only true-blue American conservative, out of Everyone Running in this race. VOTE FOR THE ONE WHO HAS THE SAME VALUES THAT YOU DO, AND WHO HAS ALWAYS HAD THOSE VALUES.
Fred still has my vote, even if I have to write it in. Huckabee is a liar and a fraud. Ever notice how he deflects questions he can’t answer with a joke or wacky cliche? He has no substance, and no plan. Both him and McCain are WEAK on IMMIGRATION!
Take a look at the exit poll surveys, and you’ll see who voted for Huckster. He’s drawing votes based on “faith,” and not the real issues this country needs to focus on. Just because a candidate shares your “faith” and values, is not the sole reason to vote for him. How well did that do the country when Jimmy Carter was elected?
Fred Thompson is the only candidate in this race that is strong on all of the issues. The Wall St. Journal praised his economic plan. He has the right idea about immigration. He wants to reform the income tax system, and keep our taxes low.
All of you who think Fred is “lazy” need to look at what he’s done the past two months. Over 50 towns in Iowa, and 3 to 4 towns a day in SC. He’s been all over the radio and tv. But yet, in debates, how many times did he get a fair chance to answer a question. How many times was he even asked, when compared to Huckabee, Romney, or McCain? If he hadn’t but in the SC debate, his face time would have been severely limited.
Fred still has my vote.
THOMPSON SHOULD STAY IN. HE SHOULD NOT LOSE FAITH. KEEP PLUGGING AWAY AND DONT GET DISGRUNTLED.
REMEMBER THE REAGAN CAMPAIGN FRED - - HE STRUGGLED TOO - - THEN WON WITH A LANDSLIDE……….BE YOURSELF - SPEAK YOUR POLITICS AND BELIEFS - AND LET THE PUBLIC SEE YOU WITH CONFIDENCE….HOLD YOUR HEAD UP HIGH !
Stewart Smoot, having just returned from eight years in Outer Mongolia where there was no American news, thinks that conservatives are happy with George Bush. Our man Stewy should brush the dust of his computer, boot up Google and do a search for “North American Union.” Stewy, you can copy and past that if you like.
Joe Kirkup
Fred , please continue in the race. Our country needs a true conservative like you. No one else can fill the position as a true conservative Republican. If either McCain or Huckabee wins the nomination, I am not even interested in voting. Romney I would have to think about simply because I know as a citizen I have the privilege of voting. But I am sure hoping to cast my primary ballet on Feb 12 for Fred D Thompson and I am hoping to cast my Republican vote for you in November. Our country cannot live on with all this flaming liberalism.
Fight on, Fred! Don’t drop out.
A Maryland Conservative
Fred stay in the race. Your supporters want you, and we will prove it in the other state primaries. All of you who seem to think we are going to drop our support for Fred just because the first few primaries have happened think again. We are here for the long haul and if he is not on the ballot we will write him in. McCain Mitt, Huckabee, Gulliani, RP, you will not get our even if you try to offer Fred a position for anything. Think again we are not moving. And the media can’t move us either. Go Fred Go.
I already sent in my California ballot, voting for Fred. Hardcore Thompson supporter, here. Super Tuesday to come. Maybe a brokered convention. Time will tell. Don’t count FT out. It is a year of surprises. No clear front-runner. FT is bringing up the rear, but only so far. How representative are the states that have has races, so far? Do the media influence voters? Let’s pray that truth will out.
You people slandering Romney are making a big mistake, that is not going to help you or your candidate, but the way Huckabee is accusing Thompson of causing his loss in SC is pathetic. Fred’s supporters have every right to vote for their choice, regardless of who else is in it. Huckabee acts like this is not a free America, that God’s laws are subject to change if it means he’ll gain power, that he has a right to change the Constitution our ancestors fought and died for, and I am sick of this poser and his brainwashed supporters. But if that’s who you want to vote for, knock yourselves out. It’s still a free country, unless your candidate wins.
This may sound very basic, but anybody who can beat the the Democrats in the general election has my vote. As a small business owner, the words “extreme fear” don’t begin to describe my feelings when I think about what will happen if the liberals take the white house. Last one out, turn off the lights.
re: “Let’s see… he [Fred] came in third, hmmmmmmm Rudy last. That should tell you something.”
Yes, it should tell all FredHeads something, but it appears from your post that it didn’t.
Fred publicly based his boast regarding his ability to win the Presidential nomination on his ability to win South Carolina. He didn’t win South Carolina. That should tell him he can’t win the Presidential nomination.
Rudy publicly based his boast regarding his ability to win the Presidential nomination on his ability to win Florida. Florida hasn’t voted yet. If Rudy doesn’t win Florida, that should tell HIM that HE can’t win the Presidential nomination.
But, until they vote in FLORIDA, Fred Thompsom is the only one who got a clear message in SOUTH CAROLINA that it’s time to drop out of the competition for President.
Fred is a true Republican, but I think he is smart enough to know when it is time to switch venues.
The guy is an ACTOR. Listen to his answers. He doesn’t answer questions. He defines the question. He doesn’t know anything. He has been reading scripts for so long he can’t seem to communicate without one. He hasn’t been a senator for years. And he is a freaking lobbyist, one of the biggest problems in our government are lobbyists. For all of you so called conservatives get ready to say Madam President. HaaaHaaa. I got money on it. It’s been chosen already. Unfortunately NOTHING will change ask the top 1% of this country. The only thing that will change is your perception. President Hillary will do nothing dramatically good or different then Bush or any of the so called conservatives or liberals. Well, except for Paul but Paul’s too good for this country he actually tells the truth.
It looks like the main stream media is trying desperately to cull any real conservatives from this race. I’ve voted in every single election since I was a kid in Vietnam. If some lib like Huck or McCain wins the nod, I may just stay home. Maybe after eight years of Hillary all you morons will catch on.
Fred, don’t quit.
Joe Kirkup
If you are always looking behind you when trying to go forward, you just trip yourself up. Try walking like that and see what happens.
America is on the road to reelecting the Clinton dynasty in ‘08. Please don’t let that happen. I, like many other fed up Democrats, am willing to vote Republican to keep the Clintons out of office. All we ask is that you offer a viable alternative. True conservatives like Fred and Huckabee are just as repulsive to us. We’ll take McCain or Romney. Ron Paul too, if he can explain his radical ideas thoroughly enough. Rudy = Bush to us, sorry. Give us someone who will reach across the aisle sometimes, and you can have a Republican (or RINO) president in ‘09. Almost anything is better than a Clinton, right?
AmericanWoman had a point I’m sure, but I can’t, for the life of me, figure out what the heck it is. It would seem that she has never heard the expression, “those who never study history are doomed to repeat it.”
JK
Dear AngryDemocrat,
I think most of us here are Fred supporters. Fred is not an unreasonable guy by any means. If you look at his record closely you’ll find a person who understands the things that have given us such a wonderful country. You have to keep in mind that he’s trying to attract votes from republicans in a primary rather than all voters. McCain and Huckabee are non-starters for most of us because of the amnesty bill and Hucks record on illegal immigration. If we start to let politicians pick and choose which laws to enforce we have lost the very mechanism by which equality is maintained.
Fred is not a heartless guy but he is a strong believer in the rule of law. He has, in the past, helped immigrants facing deportation under extraordinary circumstances, but he did so legally. Check out this link: http://abcnews.go.com/International/CSM/story?id=3975902
Highlight it and use copy/paste if necessary.
In any case, best wishes.
Joe Kirkup
Fred should stay in the race. However, he must be willing to get out and let people hear his voice. I was really excited when I first found out he was thinking of running for president. But once he got in it’s like he just laid back and waited for it to be given to him. Come on, Fred, talk to us. Let us hear your plan to turn the economy around, what are you going to do with the tax system, high cost of medical care, outrageous cost of insurance, keep our country safe, close the borders, and deal with the immigrants already here. I’m listening.
Joe Kirkup, I mean this race is unlike any in the past, stop looking behind you hoping that what happened with Reagan will happen with Thompson, who is not getting broad based support, despite the free ride the enamoured press gave him in the beginning. I am not talking about abandoning lessons learned from past history and suggest those of you who have sunk down to the ugly side of politics, thinking that will help beat a fine man like Mitt Romney, stop ignoring them, too. Thank you.
Did someone actually suggest that Romney has the best chance to beat the liberals come November ? This is not a difficult issue to reseach. Any objective analysis would place Romney right above Huckabee as the least electable category. The liberals freely admit this. The most electable candiate would have to be McCain, Guliani or Fred (my favorite). Since Huck has taken Fred’s votes, it’s down to McCain or Guliani. I’m a Southern Baptist and a grad of the largest Baptist univ. in the world. Huck is a great speaker and I’d like to attend a sermon of his someday. But, look at his record. He is no conservative. He’s no conservative Southern Baptist (ask Paul Pressler and others who know). And bringing up Romney’s religion and basing so much of his campaign on self rightous rhetoric is profoundly un-Christian. The left media has a field day with him come November. I don’t like Mcain, but he and Guliani (my second choice and the only one who can stop McCain now) are both honest and electable. That’s saying something is these very anti-Republican times. They will also keep my family safe. A Huckabee nomination will produce a liberal landslide that will create an avalance of liberal legislation and judges that we have not seen for a long time.
Fred needs to bow out gracefully………..he gave it a good shot. Bye bye !! Mike Huckabee does not lie !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Go Home Fred! All you did was allow Senator Amnisty to win in South Carolina. All you did was attack Huckabee all week. You cost him the primary with your negative attacks. Your campaign was a joke from day one. You were so lazy! What a waste of time! Go back to law and order and let the real candidates fight it out. I can’t believe I used to support you. I feel so stupid.
If Huckabee doesn’t win the nomination I’m going to support Romney. McCain is a fraud!!! A true war hero, yes, but as a senator….he’s a fraud! You may feel symathy for him as a former POW but come on people. How is that going to make him a better President? You’re being tricked! Think about this. Can McCain beat Obama or Hillary? A 70 somthing year old guy who spent his entire career in Waashington? Nope.
I just attempted to post the comment below in response to http://cameron.blogs.foxnews.com/, but it still says “no response”…
“Thompson’s S.C. Farewell”?? How much more blatant can Fox News become in their disdain for America’s conservatives than the title of this introduction to Thompson’s speech in S.C.?
With it’s tagline “It can be painful to watch candidates make concessions speeches after a do or die situation.” screaming that anyone who supports the only REAL Republican in this race has no choice but to admit defeat, Carl Cameron (or his “handlers”
misleads as surely as the Rather Biased CBS and the rest of the media pinheads we’ve all come to know and love.
No matter what your OPINION is of this speech by Thompson, nor how much you may wish it to be so, he did NOT concede after his third-place finish in S.C.!!
The statement “Fredheads need and deserve to know what’s going on.”, rings hollow in its attempt to portray empathy and true concern for those who hold out hope for a return to conservative common sense.
REAL news for you, Cameron and the rest of the Fox team of disinformation peddlers. “Fredheads” DO know “what’s going on.” And it doesn’t bode well for ANY semblance of honesty in the media coverage of the rest of this presidential campaign.
FRED DON’T YOU LEAVE US!!! You are this country’s only hope. Start taking it to McCain and watch the nation flock to your side. Start pointing to the records if all these liberals, on our side, and watch the conservatives step forward. Who cares if the media makes you out to be a “negative campaign” runner? The real conservatives are out here and we are salivating to see the NEGATIVES pointed out in these so-called conservatives. You are the only one who can do this. Do it for your country. Do it for all of us who can’t! We are ready for you to lead us. This country needs a change– a change back to our conservative principles. The only way to save this nation is to cut taxes, maintain strong military (and stay on the offense), and a leader who knows how important it is that the government stay out of peoples lives. Anything else, and America won’t recognize herself when the next opportunity comes around to elect a president. Now is the time. We need Fred Thompson– more than ever.
We are going to pay with more than blood, if this country elects McCain or Huckabee, or God forbid, Clinton or Obama.
FRED DON’T YOU LEAVE US!!!
Fred Thompson must stay on. The news media needs to be fair, the other campaigns need to focus on the issues instead of putting out lies about Fred Thompson. Yes, Huckabee(Christian????), McCain, and Romney, Fox News, CNN, MSNBC that means you! Fred Thompson is the only conservative. He will lower taxes, save Social Security, NO AMNESTY, secure our borders, and secure our nation as a whole. When you look at the issues-only Fred Thompson is a Republican and a conservative!! Check it out-www.fred08.com
McCain won South Carolina because older people were voting identity politics and the military wanted to pin another medal on him. We do not owe one man our future, especially him.
The only conservative? Fred, Mitt, Duncan….Are you people mad? Ron Paul is the only true conservative…look him up please. Save the republic while we still can…less you really want World War 3, another depression, and an unrecoverable fascist police state…
Fred needs to quit wasting the voters time. His campaign from the beginning has demonstrated his apathetic attitude towards the campaigning process and we certainly don’t need one who is apathetic as president.
He should bow out and ride the clue bus with Guliani out of the race as well.
If Fred Thompson drops out then there is only one true conservative left, Mike Huckabee.
Thank goodness for Fred telling the truth about Huck. Anyone who thinks Huck would not equal a liberal landslide (as in 1964) come November is politically delirious. And Huck supporters, think again, a liberal landlide = LEGISLATION and BAD JUDGES. IF you really wanted to change abortion policy or Roe v Wade, Huck is the last person you would support. There are serious consequences. The next 4 years will be another watershed period of liberal policy like 1964-1968.
True conservative..Huckabee ??? Reading conservative leaders of the SBC, he’s not even a true conservative Baptist. The best way to judge character and intent is from past performance. And Huckabee is NO CONSERVATIVE. And judging by his statements from the past two weeks, no candidate (either D or R) has done more of a policy switch than Huckabee. So, does the guy just have zero conservative conviction or is he just the biggest liar on stage?
This is all exceedingly disappointing for all of Fred’s supporters.
http://osi-speaks.blogspot.com/2008/01/im-right-again-obama-wins-most.html#links
FRED!!!~DO NOT– I REPEAT DO NOT GIVE UP!! REAGAN LOST 11 PRIMARIES BEFORE GOING IN THE RING AND WINNING !!! BUT YOU MUST NOT STOP ATTACKING THESE LIBERALS WHO HAVE LEFT REAL CONSERVATISM BEHIND YEARS AGO AND ARE “USEFUL IDIOTS” OF THE LEFT - WHY HAS AMERICA BEEN ALLOWING THEM TO GET AWAY WITH IT? I DON’T KNOW - I WAS ASLEEP TOO - WORKING HARD AT MY JOB AND NOT NOTICING - BUT YOU CAN’T LEAVE US NOW JUST WHEN WE ARE ALL WAKING UP AND SEEING THE LIGHT — I VOTED FOR YOU IN SC YESTERDAY AND CALLED EVERYONE I COULD THINK OF TO DO THE SAME — BUT YOU CAN’T BE LAID BACK –YOU MUST HOLD THE TORCH AND RUN - USE ALL YOUR GOD GIVEN TALENTS AS A COMMUNICATOR TO WAKE UP ENOUGH OF THE REST OF US TO FIGHT WITH YOU —GET BETTER, MORE PASSIONATE STAFF TO HELP YOU AND NEVER QUIT - NEVER - NEVER - YOU ARE OUR HOPE!!!!
Hey Vic
I’m a Southern Baptist and graduate of the largest Southern Baptist Univ in the world. I could not agree with you more about Huckabee. Can you see the liberals rolling out the photos of him 150 lbs heavier. I can hear it now: he looses 100lbs and now he wants to criminalize smoking. Just another “holier than thou Southern Baptist.” Frankly, I can’t risk my kids future, or the next 20 yrs of my life, on what will happen after the liberals gain the presidency and a filibuster proof majority in the US Senate. God help us all.
Hey KY Lawyer
I am for whoever can best beat the liberals. What about when Huckabee brought up Romney’s religion, when he touts his Christianity as if his opponents are less Christian.., saying whatever best helps his cause when it clearly contradicts his actual actions as Governor of Arkansas for over a decade ? I see nothing wrong with Fred, or anyone else, talking accurately about someone’s records. Huck’s behavior, on the other hand, is perhaps teh most un-Christian of any candidate.
To Chris Weatherhead
Well spoken, fellow conservative. I second your letter to Fred. And thank’s for taking time out to vote and get involved.
Good point, Steve
Have you seen any Republicans roll out the photos of Huckabee 100 plus pounds heavier ? “Nasty” Fred perhaps ? No ! I can see even see Jay Leno rolling those out as soon as Huck got the nomination. Fortunately, that will not be happening.
Has any other candidate this race blamed someone else for their loss as Huck has done is SC ?
Fred needs to stay in there.
Republican conservatism is on the way out. Fred is on its back.
I’ll vote for whoever will continue pissing on the U.S. Constitution and our legal system, finish bankrupting our economy, turn the keys over to the transnational corporations and governments, run our armed forces into the ground, continue promoting terrorism in the Middle East and elsewhere, turn blackwater loose on our country OCP/Robocop-style, and in general, leave no doubt that America as we knew it is officially dead.
FRED! Please stay in the race. Liberals are afraid of McCain, because he takes the moderate/RINO votes. They’re afraid of Giuliani because he’s a warmonger’s warmonger, and they’re right to be afraid of how badly he could screw up the country. But they’d rally to oppose him. They’re afraid of Romney because he’s a conservative to conservatives and a liberal to liberals, and they don’t know how he’d actually govern. They’re afraid of Huckabee because Huck wants to gut the constitution and install a theocratic government. They’re afraid of Ron Paul because he would do some radical things they would hate.
But they aren’t afraid of Fred. They make jokes about Fred. “Phlegmatic Fred” they call him. They joke that he hasn’t withdrawn yet because he hasn’t worked up the energy to do so. They don’t even bother pointing out the contradictory votes, the facile word games, etc., that make the “true conservative” schtick into such a joke. They don’t point it out, because they think he’s not a viable candidate, and he’d be easy to beat.
So hang in there Fred! Please!
Fred Should in, otherwise true conservatives will only be voting for the lesser of 2 evil liberals. He has a LOT of support in the other 45 states that have not had their say yet.
Fred should gracefully bow out. He is not going to win the nomination but he could keep the other guy (Romney) whom is fighting for an agenda closest to Fred’s from winning. Continuing in the race is only going to hurt the conservative cause that he is fighting for. Some pointed out that Reagan lost the first 11 primaries before winning. This is a completely different animal. Primaries are coming faster and harder, and Fred hasn’t even hardly shown up at the previous primaries.
A vote for Fred is a vote for McCain.
Please stay in the race Fred !!! You have a huge following down in Olahoma. We will work hard for you. Liberalism is killing this country. I am sick of hearing about all the “benefits” that illegals get over and beyond my children who is a natural born citizen and son of a patriotic taxpayer. If Hillary or Obama wins this election you can kiss America bye. Socialism here we come.
But the republican party is not much better (for the most part). Huckabee is a liar. Mc Cain is half democrat. We need Fred Thompson for President.
Please Fred stay in for our children!!!
Brant and Charity
Jason go vote for a liberal if you want but we back FRED THOMPSON.
Stay in there Fred !!!
Brant
FRED for President in 2008 !!
Help needed ?
Does anyone know if there is another debate before Florida ? If Fred performs as he did last debate, he can only better himself.
Hey Jason
A vote for Romney is a vote for Hillary - and all that comes from a liberal lanslide and 8 more yrs of the Clintons ..ahhhhhhhhh !
Wow, these Fredheads are like Moonies or Scientologists. Reality no longer permeates their skulls. How many times does their fantasy perfect candidate have to come in third or fourth, barely above single digits, before they finally wake up and smell the rented old pickup truck?
Fred is good at playing authority figures on TV and movies, and he can make a good speech, when he finds the energy. Otherwise, he’s a lawyer/actor/lobbyist with exactly 1.3 terms in the Senate and zero executive experience. It’s easy for him to cherry-pick his opponents’ 20-year-old tax bills or take compromises with Democratic legislators out of context because he knows they can’t do the same to his record as a decision-making chief executive, due to the fact that he DOESN’T HAVE ONE.
Well, he has run two things in his life: his campaign and his mouth. The former has been a disaster, and the latter has done nothing but weaken real candidates who might have had a chance of winning the general election if Fred hadn’t been poisoning the well by calling them “libruls” if they don’t measure up to his unbending yardstick. I shudder to think what Fred would say about Reagan if he were running today, with his history of union leadership, tax hikes and amnesty bills. He’d call Reagan a socialist, and his followers would all cheer. I’ve actually researched Huckabee’s record in Arkansas, read his responses to the attacks on his website, and looked at the articles fact-checking the accusations, from Michael Medved to the New York Times. Have any of you Fredheads done any of that?
Of course not. Not necessary. Fred is perfect. Fred takes off his Gucci suits, puts on freshly purchased work shirts, and walks across the water, smiting liberals by pointing His mighty finger at them. Huckabee must be lying about knowing Jesus, or he would have recognized by now that Fred is Jesus. How else could He work the miracle of repeatedly coming in fourth and still become the nominee, which they are certain He will? It’s because He can take his four votes and turn them into multitudes of votes. Ya gotta BELIEEEEEVE!!!
And you think Huckabee is too religious?
Go, Fred, Go. Go home and start your own cult. Just get out of the race already before you harm the GOP’s chances even more.
Jason
And Rudy could, quite literally, win FL and be in the driver’s seat. Anything is possible before Super Tuesday. Rudy is perhaps the most electable and was Ronald Reagan and Ed Meese’s Associate Attorney General. But Fred is nowhere near finished and he’s my top choice. The debates are good for Fred.
Mr. Pat
Clarification … Fred …”amnesty bills” ????? You talking about Huckabee. I suppose the lady whose child was murdered bv the violent felon Huck wanted paroled is also a nut in your book (not to mention the thousand other violent felons he paroled cuz they found religion) Can’t we agree as “Republicans” to tell the truth !
Simple rule on these sites… we are not Democrats or Liberals. Therefore, we tell the truth. Anyone who does not, forfeits their right post on the site.
I will vote for McCain or Guliani - electable, honest, candidates - long before I vote for Huck. And I am a so-called Evangelical.
If Fred drops out,,,,the republican party is done,,,,,,,,no one else can beat Hillary. It’s over.
Fred will be back in time. Do you think you should start another poll to see if the people think Rudy should quit? He hasn’t shown anything in 4 primaries. Isn’t that enough for the pundits to call upon him to quit also? Or maybe if the Huck should quit? I have been wondering how they can carry on haven’t you! Romney how much more money will it take for him to stay in. That would make a great poll. I am a betting woman and doubt if McCain stays on top either. Start a poll about that. I wish you would all stop having to make a poll so you have something to comment on. We use to think it was only the lib stations but now Fox has fallen suit. Too bad. You shine with the rest of the MSM.
What concerns me is if Fred drops out, he would probably throw his support to McCain. Remember they are friends and he wouldn’t go after McCain on all his issues in the debates, only the others.
He and McCain have different ideas, McCain wants amensty and is against the Bush tax and Fred is just the opposite.
I vote for MCcain is a vote for Hillary.
I meant, “a vote for McCain is a vote for Hillary.”
I forgot another poll for who is the best liar. Oh we don’t need one we know it is the Huck. Huck and Silly Willy from the same place that send us the best of Presidents!. Ya right on.
