McCain Takes a Swipe at Rudy
Everyone goes after the leader.
John McCain says he’s been under attack from other candidates since his poll numbers started climbing in December. A day after winning the SC primary, McCain took a shot at Rudy Giuliani. The former mayor has been campaigning in Florida, criticizing the Senator’s record on taxes.

McCain admits that it’s a whole new ballgame now. The Senator shines in the town hall format, sometimes getting into heated debates with voters. He held more than a hundred town halls in New Hampshire, and quite a few in South Carolina.
But now there are too many states and too little time to rely solely on face-to-face contact with voters.

first off,i would like to say that i have tried to post my opinion on the clinton news network and they wont let opinion through because its not what they want to hear !!! so ,let me try here, thx !!! i beleive the media is doing everything possible to make sure the feeble-minded sheep voting in this election, vote the way the media wants them to >> examples, spin 1) if you dont perform in the first 4-5 primaries, then you cant win !! these primaries are iowa and NH to begin with..whats that -10 total delegates>>> spin 2) momentum is important !!! momentum has only become important because the media has made it that way……listen: YOU vote for a candidate because you believe in his policies and issues !!! AND as long as he has a chance to win, you stick to your convictions !!! spin 3) giulianis poll numbers are consistanly slipping.. well, thats not true…..in fact, in the2 latest polls, he has picked 4.3% off of mccains lead…..look, momentum votes are for the feeble-minded sheep that have no strong convictions to begin with !!! you vote for a candidate because you have the same outlook on the policies as he does, not because the media tells you otherwise…if you were going to vote for giuliani before the primaries started, then you should vote for him now…what his strategy is, is not as important as MCCAIN-FEINGOLD—–MCCAIN-KENNEDY—-GANG OF 14 and yes, it is AMNESTY !!!! i frankly, dont see how mccain is running as a republican !! MEDIA wants him in the nov. election….. I DONT !!! i am a republican !!!!!! rudy or romney, PLEASE !!! thanks for your time
The question of the day is this:
Why did Fox do a report from South Carolina today right in from of a confederate flag?
Not the South Carolina flag, the confederate flag.
Is Fox making a statement?
OK, that’s two questions.
McCain is not the front runner, nor the darling of conservatives. I am a rock-ribbed conservative and, I admit, I’m still undecided (except I will NOT vote for McCain)
1)Romney has twice as many delegates as McCain — second place in the delegate count does NOT make one a front runner.
2)McCain pulled FEWER votes in SC than he did in the head-to-head match up with GW in 2000 in whiche he lost — again, this HARDLY qualifies as front-runner status
3) Rock-ribbed conservatives have yet to vote en mass; I think you will see a much different result. McCain has stabbed conservatives in the back more than I care to count: I remember his involvement with the Keating 5, his vote against tax cuts, his work with that communist Feingold to limit free speech; his work with that other communist Kennedy IN SECRET, no less, to grant amnesty (despite what he would like to call it) and I can go on. Let me be clear — I will NEVER ever vote for McCain. Even if he manages to wangle the nomination, I will never vote for him. You want Hillary to win? Then Nominate McCain. I despise his for his back stabbing. Apparently, his loyalty was left on the plane when he returned from Vietnam.
I agree with Robert and Jim. McCain is not the front runner the media would like to promote.
The bigger question the media ought to be asking is: “WHY DID 67% OF THE VOTERS IN SC VOTE FOR OTHER CANDIDATES ??”
33% OF THE REPUBLICAN VOTE DOES NOT MAKE A VIABLE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE.
Ron Paul placed second in Nevada. Yes, a distant second, but ahead of McCain, Huckabee and Guliani. There’s a story here that no one is covering.
Robert and John said it for me!
i think i would consider myself a con-mod type of GOPer. my issues are 1)the media has made this an issue as far as when rudy goes down, mccain goes up and vice versa…..(they both appear strong on war on terror, but after that, they have nothing in common)…rudy actually ran a rather humongous city, ran payroll and ran it as devout fiscal conservative !! john mcdemocrat has absolutely no credentials to be president..there are more than a handful of people who have done what mccain has done…i.e. plop his rear end in a senate seat for a decade or 3 …….no experience at balancing anything xcept the amount of bills he has signed with dems…if” islamic-jihad”, “my friends” “pork-barrell”, and the wink didnt exist, he would have nothing to say or do…actually, mccain is the only one that could lose to obama in a debate because they both have no “wheres the beef” they are both democrats and obama is more likeable>>>listen, dont vote for mccain solely because he is leading in the polls against the dems (he is a dem)…..once the democrats have to debate the issues, they will implode because they have no substance.. once hillary has to release the archives (to prove no expeience and SCANDAL after ScANDAL). shes done….rudy or romney, please
I agree with Dan there is a story that needs to be covered…..
Why is Fox News (Chris Wallace, Carl Cameron, Brit Hume, Ron Williams and Bill Crystal to be specific) picking McCain and/or Huckabee as their candidates (Huckabee now seems to be auditioning for McCains VP…he was really sucking up to him last nite). Huckabee has lost five straight state elections since IA and yet Carls says he is still in the mix and seems to be begging him to stay. In contrast every state is a must win for Mitt and the only reason they say he has won is due to his money. If money mattered Mit would have won SC easily. They have discounted Mitts 3 wins, (if they even remember to mention Wyoming) Britt Hume has even looked disgusted while reporting that Romney will likely claim a gold in NV. They say the other candidates didn’t contest NV so it didn’t count. If you think McCain and HUckabee wouldn’t love to have those NV delegates you are living in a dream land. Fox also claimed the Mormon vote is the only reason Mitt won, yet if every Moromon had stayed home Mitt would have still won NV by 20 points.
The reason the other republican candidates couldn’t contest NV is becasue independants and Dems couldn’t vote for them. The other reason is the economy….. Fox News should be touting Mitt as the clear front runner with double the delegates as McCain and more wins and second place finishes than any other candidate. They just can’t stand to do it.
Ron Paul should have gotten at least as much coverage for his second place win in NV as Huckabee got for finishing third in NH. Dan, sadly Ron Paul has fallen into the same category as Mitt Romney …..Fox News doesn’t like him either. Fox News is becoming more liberal every day and less fair and balanced. I have acutally tuned into MSNBC “Joe in the Morning” featuring Joe Scarborough (former R congressman) and CNNs Wolf Blitzer at night in order to get fair and balanced political reporting. I have to hear more about the dem candidates than I like but its worth it. Mitts religion does not seem to bother them.
Mitt Romneys dominant 80,000 vote margin win in MI (the largest state poulation to vote so far)was also discounted by Fox News because of his roots there, even though he was behind in the polls a week prior to the primary. The key in both of those states is Mitt has found his voice and is running on fixing Washington which is broken, the economy (where his strength lies) and illegal immigration.
Mitt could not win in SC because the dirty little not so secret is a lot of Southern Baptist “Christians” literally hate Mormons. All the TV ads in world won’t change that. I know because I have seen and heard it first hand in MS. Southern Baptists have openly talked here about how horrible it would be if Mitt won and made disparaging comments about his religion. Send a reporter to hang out in a Southern Baptist Chuch for awhile or attend one of their anti-morman seminars (by the way Huckabee has almost certainly attended one of these seminars as a Southern Baptist Minister) if you want to do some real investigative reporting Fox. Mitt could have used Southern Baptist bias against his religion as and excuse in SC but did not want to be devisive. That is not what the party needs right now. Once he is our nominee I think he will reach out to the Southern Baptists for reconcilliation.
I am not a LDS church member…. but I hope Mitt wins. I do not believe we should pick a candidate based on what church they attend. This nation has serious issues to be solved. Mitt has a great vision and once he is our candidate he will defeat Clinton and will go to DC, clean it up and work for all Americans. He will not hold one religion higher than another and will display Christian values as a role model for others but will not force his religion on anyone. We need more religous tolerance in America folks and it starts with the media .. Go Mitt….08
I agree with a lot of these comments on McCain. He’s not the front runner. Romney has the most delegates. National polls don’t mean anything. Look Rudy used to have a clear lead in the national polls, well now that isn’t the case. I also agree with many other comments on who and what exactly is a conservative. As a conservative you couldn’t pay me to work with Ted Kennedy and Russ Feingold. I could care less about working with left wing liberals. The only result will be a compromise of one’s core values.
Mr. Maccain was the one respected and honored by our country for years. However, when we watched his many public occasions, his half swelling face and hardly stumbling step down from the arrived aircraft , people might be worried: Pls take care and attention to your health, Mr. Maccain, let current generation carry on the responsability.
There is no doubt that the choice is either Rudy or McCain. I think McCain is a good guy but he’s been in Washington for almost a quarter of a century. I think he’s had his shot to make anything happen and he hasn’t. Rudy put Republican ideals to work in a city where “republican” was synonymous with evil and came out on top!
As for “Momentum”, thats just a code word the media uses for getting you to vote for the guy they like and have chosen to cover. Quite frankly I respect SC’s choice and thats about it. Iowa was full of hard-right conservatives, NH was liberal independents and MI was Romney home turf. Why should I base my perception of who is electable on their idea of who is electable? 4 states out of 50 have voted and NONE of them have the delegates and sway of Florida! SC may have the streak of electiong the nominee for the last 24 years but no GOP candidate has won the white house without Florida since 1924!!!! THATS WHY FLORIDA IS KEY!!!
RUDY 2008!!
McCain, a person with no business experience taking on Rudy, another person with no business experience, on the economy and solutions to get job growth in America. Do you not call that an exercise in futility? Neither have the experience to run an auto wash profitably!
I do not see Rudy’s claim to be the President to lead the nation against Terrorism. What terrorism or war experience does he have? He was a spokesman for the recovery and New York did a great job. What did he do related to Terrorism or war?
The Iraq war will be a police action by November and the election will be about the Economy. McCain and Rudy are as weak on the economy as Clinton and Obama.
We need a President that can lead business growth to create jobs and trading. McCain and Rudy have no For-Profit, Tax Paying business experience but they BOTH know how to spend peoples money! Neither of them have a NEW idea in their economic policy let along the ability to get business to go along with them. They both think the average citizen is stupid and will not demand a plan.
All of the News coverage is soft on both and not taking them on for their lack of any economic experience. The President has to know how the economy works and these two will be relying on persons you and I did not vote for.
Go ahead Florida and vote your financial future and retirements away with McCain and Rudy.
Here’s one more that will NEVER vote for McCain.
I think people have said it best.
McCain is a RINO nothing more. He has sold his soul to the dem’s in congress to many times and he will do it again. I didn’t like him in 2000 and i don’t like him now even more.
Rudy has always been my first choice. When Thompson entered he was my second. and Romney is my third.
If you put all of them together then you would have Ronald Reagan all over again. Right now i think Rudy is the only guy that truely gets it. He knows we have to maintain a strong national security. He is the only one that talks about strengthing the borders and stopping illegals.
He is the only one so far that talks about tax cuts and improving the economy for people and businesses. Romney is strong in this area as well. a Romney/Rudy ticket would be great or either or. The republican side of the ticket is stacked with business people for the most part. The dem’s have nothing really. Clinton has never managed anything, obama has never managed anything, edwards has never really managed anything. they have done nothing in the senate. either.
FL is a huge state right now. 56 delegates are up for grabs and whoever gets them is back in the race and has a lot of energy to go into super tuesday with. Rudy has to win here or else i think he is done.
the other thing that is coming out is this. most of the campaigns are going broke now. they have spent so much money in the early primaries that they don’t have anything left for the long stretch. Romney is the only one because he has used a lot of personal money as well.
i think it is going to be interesting to say that least to see what happens. if mcCain gets it i will find someone else to vote for. i refuse to vote for the man. it is like voting for a democrat really.
come on rudy you showed us what you were made of at the begining of this thing bring that back.
There are so many who have become ideological purists in the Republican party. Could Reagan have withstood some of the conservative perfectionists of today?
http://thepoliticalpost.wordpress.com/2008/01/20/the-real-reagan-and-modern-day-conservative-purists/
We got ya John McCain… Beat ya good here in vegas.. Most of us true conservative republicans came out to vote against you because we know your an insider steeped in cronnisism with too many skeletons to list. Prehaps you should clear your next move with ted kennedy. We’ll take securing the boder but not your amnesty to follow, like you keep insisting.
Im a viet vet too and although I repsect your service you’ve got to bring more to the table… “Where’s the beef”
THE TALKING PINHEADS have decimated rudy !! although i am not sure that his strategy was the best, i am not a strategist and it certainly not going to change my vote. hes my guy because of his policies, issues and perceived leadership qualities..i am not changing my vote because cameron, cristol, easton, kondracke, krauthammer and especially dick morris tell me that i should vote for someone else because the talking heads didnt like rudys strategy… A MOMENTUM VOTE IS A VOTE CREATED BY THE MEDIA IN WHICH THE MEDIA TELLS THE FEEBLE-MINDED SHEEP HOW TO VOTE !! MOMENTUM does not change policy and issue beliefs. if you think i am going to change my vote to mccain, who has a blank page for a resume, as does most senators(thats why they dont win the presidency)..o wait, he does have a resume, but he turned it in to DNC …..i think its on harry reids desk !!!! then i have some ocean front property in iowa that i would like to sell you !!! dirt cheap, too !!
AND 1 MORE THING heres is another great spin by the pinheads…”although giuliani has been in florida for 2 weeks, he is losing support”…well, thats not true !!! in the past 8 days, rudy has gone from being down by 6%, on the 13th and the last poll on the 16th has him up by one…..i am a math major and by my calculations, that is a 7% gain !!! i may be wrong though, if you guys can figure a different wat to spin it !!! GOOD LUCK !!!
Polls suck. i saw 1 poll they asked like 1000 people. how many live in the state of florida? please. there is no way 1000 people know what the other 2 or 3 million or whatever is going to do.
sorry just doesn’t work that way. that is why people need to look at these polls and their pools. usually it is they only ask 100-999 people what they think.
that is not a conclusive line to draw anything in. that is why the polls have been so wrong all these years. they are only sampling like 1 or maybe 2% if that of the population base and that is what they are going by.
i think Rudy is still the man and florida needs to back him.
We can appreciate McCain’s military service, but let’s just say “thank you,” and not reward him with the presidency. Right after he won New Hampshire somebody said to McCain, “Voters must have believed you when you said you ‘got it’ about republicans’ opposition to your former stand on illegal immigration.” McCain replied, “my position hasn’t changed with regard to illegal immigration.” Well, why did he say that he “got it?” Was he lying? Does he take us for chumps? We’re on to that old game of politicians promising they’re going to secure the borders and then make secret, late-night deals that reward law breakers and the employers who hire them. Stop the illegal and undocumented entries, and only then open our country to the honest and documented people who wish to periodically visit our country to work. It makes no sense to reward whoever figures out how to break our laws, and then expect honest, hard-working Americans to pick up the tab repeatedly. And, yes, illegal immigration does keep everyone else’s wages down, except for the employers who are collecting government incentives for hiring them. I can’t afford plumbing in my house, but I’m expected to put an illegal through college! No, I do not trust John McCain.
Dont you love how the liberal meida pumps up John Mccain? Why, because he is a liberal like them, and they know that Oboma or Cilnton would beat him in the general ellection,But dont worry, now Mccain has to come to florida were only republicans can vote and us conservitives and regular republicans havent forgotten amnesty for illegals immigrants, voted against english being the official language, voted against bush tax cuts’twice’,voted for campaign finance reform and was part of the gang of ‘14′ and alines himself with liberals like Ted Kennedy.Oh buy the way why does the meida allways talk about Giulianis affair but never talk about old Johnny boys affair with his last wife?Hmmmmmmm?Stright talk friends,John Mccain cant be trusted! And on Jan,29th.Mccains fairy tail will end!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And another thing… The democrats are having a hard time keeping a straight face, claiming McCain would be tough in November.
Just found out my parents have cast their absentee ballots for Romney in Florida. Whew, it’s good to know that they’re still sharp and clear-minded, well into their eighties!
Hey y’all, It’s great to hear some folks express ideas that are thought out - instead of blindly following the media “pundits.” Haven’t made up my own mind yet, but it’s definitely NOT McCain (because of his liberal stance on illegals and economics); definitely NOT Huckabee (who wants a Baptist minister running the country?); definitely NOT Thompson (go home and enjoy your retirement years with your beautiful wife); which leaves Mitt and Rudy (and I wanna hear more from each of them, first).
Just a note for Obama (and isn’t it great that a black man can actually run for the presidency?) What’s all this “experience” Hillary has had as being “intimately involved’ with her husband in major decisions? Was she “right there” when Bill showed us how strong America is as we pulled out of Somalia? Was she “right there” when he did such a great job with the budget–at the cost of decimating our military and intelligence strengths? Was she “right there” when he sold missile technolgy to China? Was she “right there” when he really went after bin Ladin–with a cruise missile at the pill factory? Well, anyway, we know she was “right there” when he tried to lie his way out of perjury charges–under oath. GREAT experience Hillary . . .
McCain is a democrat. He has never forgiven Bush since losing in SCarolina. Rather than do what is right for his party he has consistently passed VERY liberal legislation. As far as being a war hero–he lost my respect when he ditched the woman who waited for him after she was disabled in a car accident to have an affair with daddy’s little rich girl who could buy him a seat in the senate. McCain never learned how to follow–his military career was full of hundreds of demerits for conduct unbecoming. He has been the dirtiest campaigner (along with Huckabee) by push polling and has been given a total pass by the media. McCain and Huckabee claim it is independent 527’s doing the push polling, but if they wanted to stop them they could make a concerted public plea to stop. They don’t. Dirty, Dirty politics. Smugabee then goes on and claims he ran an honorable campaign along with McCain. Once again, got a total pass for that HUGE lie.
I moved to Arizona shortly before the ‘04 elections and remembered McCain from his 2000 run. I quickly looked at some votes I thought were key and decided to vote for him. I HAVE REGRETTED IT EVER SINCE!!!!
He has made so many votes and efforts contrary to what I want from my senator, I wish we could kick him out.
How can he claim to have any credibility securing the border when more illegals come through Arizona than any other border state. Why hasn’t he done anything about it over the last 20 years????
That speaks louder than any speech.
NO MCAMNISTY FOR ME! I live in Southern California and John McAmnisty wants to give our country away like Presidente Jorge Bush is doing. I want the border shut tight and the mexicans rounded up and put back in their own country. My neighborhood has gang tagging, the schools can’t give away free lunches and breakfasts fast enough. “push 1 for English” is now the norm… I want my country back! The demoncrats, McAmnesty and his shamnisty pal Lindsey Ghramnisty sure won’t get my vote. I would rather vote for a demoncrat, let them screw things up for four years, and then try again with a REAL conservative. I want an angry white man to step up and TAKE MY COUNTRY BACK! Maybe Lou Dobbs will run.
McCain responds to criticism like a teenager, not like a septuagenarian. McCain may be principled, but he is also stubborn, combative with others, thin skinned, and worst of all often wrong about important issues. McCain seems to be very weak at putting principles into practice. Campaign finance reform? Good idea but….McCain Feingold… BAD result. Controlling illegal immigration? Good idea but McCain Kennedy….BAD proposal.
As a nation we are yearning for competence from our government. If you want someone who will take on tough problems with good intension, but make them worse…then McCain is your man. If you want someone who will take on tough problems and insist on bottom line results, then Romney is your man.

John McCain is what the republican party needs. I have long been a die-hard Republican, but being too conservative will not win the election. We saw our party lose the house and the senate running on the same platform at Romney and Huckabee. They will not beat Obama or Clinton. McCain, however, can get swing voters. John McCain gives the republican party the best change to get the white house. If you look at it from this viewpoint, you must vote for John McCain
Joe you’re so biased when it comes to Hillary Clinton. Is race an issue for you as well? You talk about Rev. Wright comment and you bash Sen. Obama for something someone else said. When Sen. Clinton lied to the american people directly, about the sniper fire situation. She’s a liar and don’t know the difference between sniper fire and flowers. Don’t need her answering the phone at 3 in the morning. Nobody knows they’re spouse better than themselves, and Bill Clinton said out of his mouth she’s 60 years old expect her to forget things. Sen. Clinton is using her husbands minor success as Pres., when all he did was passed welfare reform. He’s not really trying to be Pres., all that matters to her is making history. Joe grow up and stop letting color dictate your feelings.
