Huckabee: Fred and Snow Behind South Carolina Defeat
Little Rock, AR-
One day after a devastating loss to Senator John McCain in the South Carolina primary, Mike Huckabee visited Huck supporter Chuck Norris’ Lone Wolf Ranch near College Station TX for a fundraiser that included him playing with his old band. During a press avail prior to the event, Huckabee took a moment to speak to reporters on the tough defeat the night before. Huckabee blamed Fred Thompson for splitting the evangelical votes, and pointed to the snow in parts of the Greenville-Spartanburg area that ” froze ” the vote in that expected Huckabee stronghold. The end result: 33-30, McCain.
“We obviously wanted and we honestly thought we would win. The fact of Fred Thompson’s being in the race took away some votes that we most likely had. I believe every analyst has looked at it that way, Huckabee said. “The snow pretty much - not only froze the streets of the Greenville-Spartanburg area, but the votes came to a stop when it started snowing. That was an area where we had really looked forward to get a heavy and significant vote margin.”
Still Huckabee said,” no excuses” the game was not over for the Huckabee campaign for the presidency.
“Starting today, we reset the clock,I woke up this morning and I thought the momentum is back,”Huckabee said, Chuck Norris by his side.”This (loss) does not put us out of the game by any stretch of the imagination.”‘

Whine, whine, whine, whine, whine!
Are any of the other candidates saying, I would have won if…?
Hello Huckabee! You are a RINO and every Republican Evangelical that voted for Fred knows it.
Maybe God sent a sign (the snow and ice) to prevent Huckabee from winning.
Clearly, Fred Thompson split the ticket and allowed McCain to win as Ross Perot split the ticket on H Bush allowing Billy C. to win in South Carolina.
Due to what I now call the “Fred Thompson chicken block” on Huckabee, Thompson allowed McCain to win S.C. with an otherwise 2nd place vote count. By McCain’s win, Huckabee’s supporters were given a greater national responsibility than before to also correct the Fred Thompson “Vote Block” mayhem in South Carolina and go forward to win Florida. Everyone knows that the GOP has started eating their own for sport and the most electable candidates are defending themselves from the otherwise “no plan” “no accomplishment” competitors where the last one standing may be the weakest GOP candidates.
Remember, Bob Dole and George H. Bush got hamburgered because the young voters would not or could not relate or associate with them and the same goes for McCain, not to mention the other bones in his closet. That means the democrats will win!
hey David, are u one of the twins that I met at the ranch?
Amen Bob,
Maybe if Hukabee got out Thompson would havewon.Thompson is the cositant consevative and will get my vote. It seems forer Arkanasas Governors will blame the shortcomings and poll driven poliies on anything. Mr. Huckabee did you rais taxes. The non- answer ” Iraised jobs” With all due respect sir tha was not he question. Fct: Gov. Huckabee aised taxes.I’m fne wih tha if that what he believes just own up to it. You lost S.C., because more people voted for the other guy. Take responsibility and go n.
Come on Huckabee voters, the guy is not only not going to win he is giving you false campaign promises. He said he is for the Fair Tax. Either this guy is clueless to economics or he is dangerous. He may be clueless. In Arkansas he instituted a sales tax on groceries to solve their economic problems.
But the Fair Tax depends on the fact that the states are going to foot the cost of collecting it. This is UNCONSTITUTIONAL. That would be against the US Constitution. A presidential candidate should know that. The backers of the Fair Tax said that they would amend the constitution. That would be to alter states rights…because the federal government under the US Constitution cannot ask, tell or force the states to do its bidding. The Beacon Hill Institute did a very detailed investigation of the Fair Tax and clearly state that in its research that the ’state’ governments would collect the new federal sales tax. This information is available at ‘beacon hill.org’. This is real guys. Beacon Hill Institute is a reputable source. I, for one, think Huckabee is a dufus…However, if he really intends on messing with states rights, he is dangerous. I would guess the media thinks he is a dufus and he is blowing wind.
Fred Thompson saves the day!
Let’s just keep this simple and all vote for Mitt Romney.
Huckabee is just about finished… and it is about time.
The Floridians are going to finish what the South Carolinians started. It’s all over for Huckabee, except figuring out who to blame.
Huckabee is finally falling to the old addage, “You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time.”
Hasta la vista, Huckabee!
whining is what you might expect from a guy who would call up a movie star that he has never met and ask him to go on a presidential tour with him. That is the story that Chuck Norris told the media. Chuck said that he wrote a blog talking about how he liked Huckabee. One of Huckabee’s crew say it and so Huck called him up. Now they are old buddies. I am sorry. I have a big problem with that. Does Huckabee think that the average voter is so stupid that he or she is gonna vote for him just because he rides around with a movie star? That is so demeaning to the intelligence of the voter. I certainly hope that my president is not picked by anyone because of an ENDORSEMENT or a POLL. I am hoping that voters are using their knowledge of the candidates records to decide….I am hoping…no I am praying…this is far more serious than who’s movie star is more popular than someone else’s..
It is very obvious that the many wonderful commentor’s here are either delusional or that they are making rash statements out of their fear of the comming Huckabee surge!
I don’t want to see a preacher as a president. May be god wants huckabee to be a pastor not as a president. so please mr. huckabee when you whine bring god before excuse. Hey there is nothing to loose. If you don’t win, hey we will see you in the TLN bible channel.
News Flash: According to push polling Tom Coughlin is too old to coach in the Superbowl. Sorry Coach, You’ll have to forfeit to the Packers.
This just in: Chuck Norris says Brett Favre is too old to play in the Superbowl (but he isn’t) and the National Football Conference will have to start the playoffs over again.
I wonder if George Washington checked his brain and his patriotism at the church door? I’m not drinking the cool aid!
Patty: “It is very obvious that the many wonderful commentor’s here are either delusional or that they are making rash statements out of their fear of the comming Huckabee surge!”
Guess I should hand over my handle to you…you are dreaming…
Huckabee surge???
Interesting that Huckabee believes that he is second in the delegate count. Here is the current delegate count:
Romney 72
McCain 38
Huckabee 29
Giuliani 2
If my math is correct… that would place Huckabee third.
Maybe Chuck Norris can get Huckabee to work as a stunt double in future episodes of “Walker, Texas Ranger”. Huckabee could use a good couple punches in the face and a kick in the groin. Maybe it’ll knock that silly grin off of his face.
Huck, you are an idiot. Fred didn’t do Mccains bidding. That’s not what his campaign is about. It is about Federalism.Read The federalist Papers and then maybe you will understand just how far we have strayed from the principles that this country was founded on.
Huck, We support you 110%. My brother and his wife are FL voters and will be voting for you. Time to set this country and our party in a new direction! http://www.MikeHuckabee.com is where the latest news for Huck is.
Huckabee is right, Fred should have taken his metamucil and went home so Huck could have an even bigger share of the religeous constituents who after all, rightfully belong to Huck since he’s the pasto. Geez Fred how selfish of you. Huck you should have had an enough is enough ad made up against Fred, and then cancelled it at the last minute, maybe that would bought you that 2% you needed. Naw, I think the joke is over Huck, go home.
Patty, Think about it. Huckabee didn’t win in Michigan. Romney even carried the majority of evangelistic votes there. He didn’t win in SC. He couldn’t carry the majority of conservatives there. He is just doing a Ross Perot…Are you old enough to remember that disaster?
Perot in the general election split the conservative vote and CLINTON got in the white house. IF in this primary Huckabee continues to split the conservative vote. MCCAIN will be the nominee…Now does that make sense? Huckabee has only carried Iowa. Romney has won three states…And don’t give me any crap about the other candidates not showing up.
Romney went to every state because he is presidential material. His standards are higher. He goes the extra mile to because he thinks all states matter. Huckabee is trying to play a numbers game. That just stinks to me. It is such a little idea. And don’t tell me he doesn’t have the money. He could have put a few nickles out and at least put his head in the state. One plane ride doesn’t cost that much. If you really are conservative, you should rethink. Romney is the only conservative out there now and he is outtt there in front. IFF the conservatives get behind him. IT IS THE ECONOMY> IT IS OUR COUNTRY> Please leave religion out of it.
No, Mr. Huckabee, Your loss was because enough Evangelical voters did NOT vote for you, just as I will not. Fred Thompson got votes because enough people saw that he really is the best all-around conservative in this race, not because those voters wanted to help McCain. It’s time for YOU to step aside for the good of the party and let a real conservative benefit from your followers.
I agree that Huckabee should leave so Thompson (the true conservative) can represent us. I want to say Huck is a nice guy, but some of the veiled jabs lower him in my eyes. He’s also obviously flailing on the issues during the debates. We know he’ll be out soon; I just with it were before Florida so we could get down to brass tacks.
It is silly for Huckleberry to say Fred Thompson was a spoiler. That is like saying if Huckleberry didn’t run in Iowa, Mitt Romney would have won. Huckleberry deserves to lose with his claim that he is the “Christian” candidate. He is so full of himself.
Huckabee is quite the politician with that explanation he apparently gave for Gomez’s report — “I don’t know chief, I don’t know. He’s very smart or very dumb.” I highly doubt that there are very many voters who cast their vote for Thompson would have cast one for Huckabee in Thompson’s absence. If Huckabee is trying to cast himself as a close alternative/substitute for Thompson (in the event Thompson quits), I doubt that current Thompson backers will be persuaded. But, ya never know unless you try it.
Smart move by the Huckster!
Can someone explain to me what the deal is with Huckabee and Chuck Norris? Why is he photographed more with Chuck than his own wife? It’s kind of creepy. As far as fundraising for Huckabee, I would imagine that must be very difficult right now considering he wasn’t able to win a tailor made state like South Carolina. If he can’t win South Carolina, where else could he possibly win besides perhaps Arkansas?
It’s been five states since Iowa but no other wins for the Huckster.
Not even the help of a push-polling group smearing his opponents in every early primary state has been able to put him over the top since Iowa.
Don’t count Huckabee out yet. The battle has just begun.
Hey! Good for Fred! The Huckster does not deserve to win. He allowed his supporters to push poll Fred’s supporters. The Huckster refuses to answer questions about his tax increases in Arkansas. The Huckster believes violent criminals should be pardoned and allowed to commit more violent crimes against innocent people. Fred, you done good! GO FRED!
Huck, you’re better at jokes than you are at math. Fred voters are conservative. You’re a liberal. Mitt is conservative ‘lite.’
If Fred weren’t in the race, Mitt might have stayed in SC and won the darn thing. Then you would have come in third.
I say this as a Fred head.
defeated because of fred and snow? Yeah. right. any more jokes?
I have to chuckle at the republican faithful who take their candidates so seriously. I wonder why none of them are disheartened by the fact that a republican administration has led this country into economic, geopolitical, and moral disaster. What a bunch of ridiculous hypocrites these republican candidates are! None of them address the undermining of the U.S. Constitution, the evisceration of the rule of law and individual liberties, and the near-total collapse of our economic under their sage, W. Bush. They just wrap themselves in the flag and thump the bible. Pitiful, truly pitiful.
When the final history of the U.S. is written, these 8 years will be marked as the start of a precipitous fall of an empire. And you republicans blather on about patriotism! If you only knew better, you’d be deeply ashamed.
I am so glad that Fred didn’t win. I will be also glad that Fred will be pulling out and I think he will cause he is getting nowhere he doesn’t support the human life platform that the Republican party stands for, to protect the prolife movement Fred said that himself on Meet the Press that he doesn’t support the platform and he didn’t pledge the tax pledge like Huckabee did. And Mike didn’t whine either you people if Fred didn’t wasn’t in the race then Huckabee would have won. As for the weather well it could have hurt anybody but manly I feel like Fred took away Huckabee votes. Cause Huckabee is prolife, for the Family issues and the for freedom we all charish in this country. That is why we must continue to support Huckabee to the very end. As for him being a preacher you look at the founding fathers most of them was christian Men. That is why world over is trying to get into our country cause of our heritage and the freedoms we have. So Huckabee is the BEST MAN for the Job. I am praying for him everyday.
Do any of you sage republicans understand the rules of punctuation or syntax?
To Upperhand: Tell us, if you would, how it is that the Left protects the principles of the U.S. Constitution, the rule of law, and individual liberties.
“When the final history of the U.S. is written…”
Look, I know that this might be something you truly wish for but it ain’t gonna happen as long as we still have property rights and the desire to maintain them here.
“these 8 years will be marked as the start of a precipitous fall of an empire. And you republicans blather on about patriotism! If you only knew better, you’d be deeply ashamed.”
An empire that sought to spread liberal democracy for the betterment of humanity. Somewhere and at sometime in Iraq or Afghanistan this evening, someone is giving you and your ilk a purple finger…and it ain’t a thumb!
Rather than beating each other up on this forum, we should try to come to an agreement on some of the big issues Republicans need to stand for.
1. Smaller Government = Lower Taxes
2. Less Federal meddling in States Rights issues, like Abortion and Gay Rights. Hey, if a blue state wants to legalize something, go ahead. Just leave the red states alone. If you agree with a certain lifestyle or morality, then move to a state that suits your beliefs.
3. Illegal Immigration - It’s illegal folks. And it jeopardizes U.S. Sovereignty. Enforce the laws in the books, build a wall, and penalize companies that knowingly hire illegals.
4. The Wars - The U.S. has a vested interest in Middle East stability due to our dependence on foreign oil. That’s not going to go away folks. Even if everyone were to start driving hybrids, we’re never going to see low fuel prices again. China and other developing countries are increasing the demand for oil. Switchgrass and Ethanol are pipe dreams. The reality is we need to maintain stability in the Middle East. Pull troops from Afghanistan, reinforce Iraq, and bring as many of our troops home as is practicable.
5. The Economy - Fix it or people will vote you out of office. That’s what’s happened to the Republicans. Everyone is running on the “Change” platform. I believe that primary appeal revolves around fixing the economy. We need a stronger middle class, and to do that, we either need to retrain workers (into the service industry or into highly skilled professions), or bring manufacturing jobs back to the U.S. The cheap labor in foreign countries is killing our manufacturing sector. The Feds are to blame in one respect because they are lax tarrifs. The playing field is not level.
And it would help if people would start buying American made products, even on little things. I thought we would see a dramatic resurgence in interest toward purchasing Made In U.S.A. products after the toy recalls of 2007, but that barely made a dent in that attitude. Hello America! Wake up and support your own workers, even if it costs you a little more at Wal*Mart! Buy American and you help someone keep their job.
McCain is weak on #3.
Giuliani is weak on #2.
Huckabee is strong on #2 and weak on #3.
Thompson is my preferred candidate for his positions. But, his performance in the primaries is so bad that at this point I don’t think he will be a viable candidate. If you can’t win primaries, you can’t win elections.
At present Thompson may be a spoiler for Huckabee. He may drop out after Super Tuesday if he consistently places 3rd or worse.
The bigger issue is Hillary Clinton. I sincerely hope that Barak Obama beats Hillary. If he doesn’t, and Republican’s can’t unite behind one front-runner, then that would be tragic. She’s a socialist.
I think Mike has a great shot at winning Florida. It is just going to take boots on the ground.
Get involved at Huck’s Army
Joe,
If you think that the rights enumerated in the Constitution (inclusive of the Bill of Rights) are exhausted by the right to private property, then you had better go directly to a physician. Your priapism has affected your ability to understand. By the way, the right to property is enshrined in the 14th amendment, a post-Civil War amendment which, in the same paragraph, also protects life and liberty. It is the disgraceful legacy of conservatism in the U.S. which has fought, tooth and nail, to deny those liberty protections to all Americans. Should I remind you of Reagan’s speech in Philadelphia, Miss.–the site of a vicious lynching only a few years prior–when the Supreme Actor sang the praises of “states’ rights”? In this case, it was the right to maintain segregation and a system of bigotry. Disgraceful.
Classical (and contemporary) liberalism is devoted to individual rights, first and foremost. And if you believe that contemporary conservatism does the same, just consider: Abu Ghraib, extraordinary renditions, illegal spying on U.S. citizens…the list goes on and on. No doubt you and other republicans are in deep denial, so total has been the collapse of meaningful democracy under Bush.
So quaint, too, that you refer to the votes in Iraq and Afghanistan. I suppose you believe in the WMD and the Easter bunny too?
Hey, did I mention the WMD? Let’s think about that one for just a bit. WMD? Smoking gun? Never has there been such a mendacious assortment of politicians. OK, now after you’ve thought about the WMD for some time…apologize to those thousands of dead and maimed. They were your fellow citizens, and you sacrificed their lives for a lie.
You might look at some news sources outside of Fox to find out what is really going on in this world. Read, republicans, face the world. There is hope for you only if you escape from your mind-numbingly stupid ideology.
Melissa is correct, Huckabee’s a big time liberal RINO, no excuses, no soap for a phoney dope. Of course the RINO would like to blame the only REAL conservative in the race. Maybe the fraud should blame the real culprit ~>HIMSELF<~
Now is the time for Fred to pack it in, he is finished. The little button has popped out of the turkey so stop wasting money and our time. The only bigger joke is Ron Paul and his wacko supporters.
Why is it that no one who can actually compose a complete sentence and spell fairly simple words supports Huckabee?
To Upperhand: You may be right about the “final history of the United States” but you are wrong as to who will be blamed. It will be laid at the feet of those of us who want to blame this nation and its fine citizens for whatever happens in the world that is wrong. True, there is a lot of blame to lay at our feet for some things that happened but tell that to those who lost loved ones on a sunny day in September, 2001.
To say that history will record that a precipitous fall began with these 8 years is wrong. It started long ago, I would like to say that it started in the 1960’s with free love, prayer removed from the schools, race riots, drugs, etc., but I believe it started back in the depression. People were so down because of the depression and then WWII that our servicemen and women vowed that their children would never have to go through what they endured. My generation was the recipient of their generosity and we were very selfish. We wanted all those things I mentioned that took place in the 60’s that we were willing to whatever it took to get them. Our children were given all those ideas and encouraged to even create their own that we did not care when they went farther and their children have gone even farther. So you see, the “open minded” ideas of the 60’s are a good start to mark as the fall of this great nation. It is not this present administration or the candidates running to replace it that will be beginning of the fall!
Ken your right we need to stop beating our selves and get the McCain/Huckabee ticket rolling to get ready for who ever the Dems put up.
Remember the crack a couple of days ago from that “class act” Mike Huckabee about Fred Thompson appearing to be in need of Metamucil?
This guy’s a real riot, no? Yet now it seems the former Governor, the rodent-eater, could use a lifetime supply of Imodium.
His problem is diarrhea of the mouth, which, some of his old friends tell us, “is just Mike.” All of which makes him well-suited to become the chief architect of American foreign policy, and for starting the kind of Championship Riot with his laugh act that breaks out in tense Third World cities, leaving piles of corpses, when American Presidents “crack wise.”
Whether they like us or not, people around the world pay close attention and both buy and sell based on what the American President says and does not say.
It seems clear, as Governor Huckabee prattles on and on, it may be past time for someone, somewhere to tell the best Democrat on the Republican team to put a sock in it.
As he smashes Ronald Reagan’s 11th Commandment and shames Southern Baptists with his interpretation of the first Ten, it’s becomes more and more obvious Mike Huckabee is intent on violating yet another Cardinal Rule of Politics.
A campaign blind to its flaws is doomed.
Generally speaking, a candidate can be ugly as sin and make great progress, perhaps even win, if the candidate is aware of this and can make light of it. A candidate can have a dangerous ego and, in what seems a contradiction in terms, and only if they are aware of and can make light of this, they can survive and overcome. The opposite, unfortunately for Governor Huckabee, is certainly not true.
In the wee hours after the South Carolina Primary votes were counted, not one, but two former Governors, Mike Huckabee and his supporter South Carolina’s own charming Kevin Beasley were spouting off to anyone who would listen that Fred Thompson had stolen their victory over John McCain.
That paragon of Republican interests Time magazine felt such sympathy for Huck they went online with their upcoming puff piece Huckabee and his winning, populist mangling of Ronald Reagan’s legacy.
By golly, you can bet when Time is doing its upmost to fluff your campaign you must be a real contender. It means you really must be a real threat to those disciples of Saul Alinsky chewing on each other for the Democrat nomination.
“The fact of Fred Thompson’s being in the race took away some votes that we most likely had,” the Governor said. “I believe every analyst has looked at it that way.”
Folks who’ve been Conservative in the historic, non-statist frame for any length of time and those who’ve looked at the crosstabs a little closer than Ed Rollins, apparently, can do the math.
If Mitt Romney and Fred Thompson were a single hybrid candidate, combining the virtues of both men, the results last night would have been a three-way split. Fred Willard would probably have come in Third, but the result would have been no different.
Those of us who genuinely believe Fred Thompson said it best when he called the contest for the Republican nomination “a battle for the heart and soul of the Republican Party,” would have supported the Huckster long before Senator Thompson entered the race.
It’s fair to assume Huckabee believes many of us have had a long, hard look at him and then moved toward Thompson as soon as he entered the race.
After all, Huck’s been in the contest a long time, and if he’s half the candidate he’s made himself out to be we wouldn’t have encouraged Fred Thompson to enter the race. The Governor apparently doesn’t think very confidently about himself in comparison to Senator Thompson, and maybe he’s worried those around him will find out.
Nevertheless, in the spirit of the 11th Commandment, here’s some basic Dale Carnegie for the haughty, self-impressed Beasley and the blabbermouth former Governor of Arkansas. The way to Win Friends and Influence People isn’t to grind salt into the wounds of your political rivals and their champion when they’re down. Something akin to authentic, not feigned sympathy is in order on such occasions.
But this is academic, isn’t it, and the sort of thing we learn from our parents or in kindergarten? You’re paying Ed Rollins how much? To put it simply, Preacher, “the microphone is open, Lonesome Rhodes. Put a lid on it.”
Pssst. On second though, there, Governor, and make sure you keep insulting Fred Thompson and his supporters as much as possible. Keep cracking wise, too, about the personal qualities of your opponents. It’s so endearing.
Heck, I was just joshing you with that crack about Imodium. People just love it these “stream of conscience” moments of yours. Everyone loves just loves you, Mike, just as you hoped, just as you knew they would.
NH Ron Paul got 18,303 votes Fred got 2,886
Michigan Ron Paul 54,434 Fred 32,135
Nevada Ron Paul 6,087 Fred 3.521
First of all, Huckabee is not whining. He is pointing out the deliberate plot by Thompson to hand the win to McCain. He knew he didn’t have the support to win, so he dedicated his time to staying in upstate SC, where I live, and was Huckabee country. Fred is not dumb, and he knew what he was doing. His actions blatantly translate into asking for the VP slot.
Hopefully people will realize that Fred is out and stop voting for him, as it is a waste of a vote. Huckabee is and always was the true conservative candidate, the one who stood for the VALUES of the Republican party.

Huckabee lost because he GOT D’S AND F’S for the way he ran that state! STOP blaming Fred and the snow, and whatever other stupid excuse you come up with Huck! You lost because you are also clueless on foreign affairs, and want to change the constitution to fit God’s standards, and want to put Aid’s patients in concentration camps so they are isolated!
YOU LOST BECAUSE YOU WILL NEVER MAKE A GOOD POTUS! PERIOD! Stop blaming everyone else for your own foot and mouth disease! and now you blame the snow?? American’s don’t want to elect a US PASTOR! What part of that don’t you get?
I’ll donate a grand ($1000.00) to the Gov’s campaign if he can provide a FRed Thompson quote to the effect of “If I don’t win (in either Ia or SC) I’ll drop out.”
Put up or shut you RINO!
OH AND BAD NEWS FOR YOU HUCKABEE.. FRED WILL KEEP ON RUNNING!

Some BIG fundraiser at Chuck’s house huh Huck! ROTFLMAO it appears it is just Huckabee and Chuck!
Go for it Huckabee-We’re praying for you from out in Oregon!
Why would Ken leave out the front runner of all the Republican candidates–Mitt Romney? Could this be because you arn’t looking at him seriously because of his religion? I suggest take a close look what Mitt Romney has been able to accomplish because he is strong in everything you think a Republican needs to stand for. Take a second look, and maybe we should all get behind a Romney/Thompson ticket.
Why are the Fred supporters so insistent that Mike is a RINO? Take a look at his record, and get the FACTS - not the sound bytes from the debates. Some of the comments that have been left here disparaging Mike make it obvious the writer knows nothing about him other than what the media spins. I’m not going to say anything negative about the other Republican candidates - in my opinion, they are ALL better than a Democrat. And I say this an an independent voter: After spending HOURS researching each candidate (on BOTH sides) - I truly believe that Mike Huckabee is the only man with enough experience, enough gumption, enough charisma, and enough faith to bring this country up.
Mike Huckabee ‘08 - Faith. Family. Freedom.
Huckabee HAS NO EXPERIENCE in foreign Affairs, he is clueless. haven’t you Huck supporters learned that yet by his mass responses that were totally clueless?? TAKE OFF THE BLINKERS
Funny how all of you people are attacking Mike Huckabee because of his religion. Could it be that you are afraid and worried about your own salvation???? Get yourself right with God. Mike Huckabee does not fear even losing this election he knows this verse has meaning behind it.
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. You see even if he loses this campian he will not worry about it, he knows God is in control. I pray that ou can put your faith in God and not in any man or woman who may or may not become our President. Mike Huckabee is a good and honest man and would make a great President.
Be nice to Gov Huckabee now…….it’s rude to bash on your future president.
Folks, why would a tax hiking, liberal, unethical, clueless, preacher get reelected for 2 terms in Arkansas?
He was a great Governor! One of the Top 5 in the U.S. as voted by Time Magazine. Don’t let the money hungry media spoon feed you talking points from the Club For Growth. Do your homework.
Mike’s of the people, by the people, & for the people.
Mike Huckabee is too devisive a candidate to win the Presidency. If he were by some off chance to get the Republican nomination, the democrats would cream him especially with all his rhetoric of being the “Christian” candidate. He keeps promoting his “Christian” credentials because he has no idea how to fix the economy.
The same goes for McCain. Even McCain admits economics is not his thing and that is what Greenspans book is for. How many people would knowingly hand over their money to someone who professed that they weren’t very good at investing.
The CEO of the United States needs to be someone who understands finances and economics. Two and 1/2 years at a divinity school hardly compares to a simultaneous law and MBA degree at Harvard. Mitt may remind you more of your boss rather than your friend who got laid off. However he is very good at finances and is very organized. Just look at his campaign, how much money he has raised and how he competes in every state. He is ahead in the delegate count. If it wasn’t for the religious bigotry, he would be unstoppable.
I am a supporter of Fred Thompson. If I did not vote for Fred, I WOULD NOT vote for Huckabee…
My apologies. I tried to quote Christopher on that last post, and didn’t close the tag. So it’s all grey. There doesn’t appear to be an edit option on this blog.
That post should have looked like this.
That’s just it Christopher. I don’t think everyone who votes Republican is in agreement with the values which the party should have. Social Conservatives share a common core set of values:
1. Overturn Roe v. Wade
2. Define marriage as union between man and woman
Bush did a great job in this area by appointing Samuel Alito and more importantly John Roberts to the Supreme Court. If by “values” you mean values esteemed by social conservatives, then Huckabee appears to support those values.
But that’s just one facet of a very complex picture.
Immigration, the economic decline of the middle class, and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are front-and-center for most Americans. The States Rights and Federal Supremecy struggle is in the background, but is of no less importance.
The FEMA follies are just one more example of the problems incurred by entrusting the Federal Government with too much. If state governors had been given the financial resources allocated to FEMA for Katrina, then they would have been more capable of assisting citizens in their own states more effectively.
We need Federal government, but it’s role should be more limited.
Fair vs. Responsible
Now there is also a very fundamental difference between how Democrats and Republicans approach social inequalities. A Democrat will often use the word “fair” or “fairness” when describing their policies. A Republican will often use the word “responsibility”. These are all good words, but the subtext is what’s important.
A Democrat claiming to make something more “fair” typically does so in the classic Robin Hood style. Steal from the rich to give to the poor. A Republican will take the stand that people should be responsible for their own actions, and that people should either suffer the consequences or reap the rewards thereof. That’s a fundamental difference in philosophy that impacts the policy of governance tremendously.
Take for instance the current sub-prime mortgage crisis. Yes, now it’s a crisis because it’s affecting everyone in the country. Thousands of skilled bank employees are out of work. Families who signed sub-prime contracts are facing foreclosure. And responsible familes who signed loans they could afford are now seeing their home values depreciate. The housing bubble is just beginning to pop. Builders aren’t building, so sub-contractors aren’t working. It’s the beginning of an economic tailspin.
During the housing boom families sucked the equity out of their homes to feed their consumption habits. They refinanced their homes, got fat checks for the equity, and spent that money on home improvements, new cars, vacations, HDTVs, and other discretionary purchases. Granted, there are exceptions to that pattern, but as a general rule that’s how many Americans treated that equity. That drove the economy to new heights.
Now that home prices are flat or falling, that tool is gone.
A Democratic candidate approaching this problem offers the following solution. Rather than allowing balloon or adjustable rate mortgages to inflate, as they are projected to do so, lock the mortgages at the low introductory rates that their homeowners can afford. After all, that’s what would be fair. Those are hard working Americans who got duped into a bad deal because they didn’t understand the ramifications of taking a balloon mortgage. After all, every family deserves to have a house. That’s what’s fair.
Hello! Interest rates are at a historic low. There is no reason in the world that someone with decent credit should have taken an adjustable rate mortgage. This isn’t 1980 where interest rates are in the double digits.
That behavior was financially irresponsible. Plain and simple. Unfortunately many families bought homes they could not afford in neighborhoods beyond their economic means. That the banks allowed it is no surprise. Corporate greed has always been alive and well in America. You can finance a home or car well beyond your means if you just ask for the loan. That doesn’t mean you are entitled to keep it if you are later unable to meet your contractual obligations.
So a Democrat faced with that problem decides it’s better to stick it to the big corporations. After all, it’s easier to hate a nameless, faceless company that has 20,000 employees you don’t know. Unfortunately those employees and families are your neighbors. Your kids play with their kids at school.
A Republican faced with the same problem first has this response. These are adults who should be capable of making responsible decisions. If someone bought a house with a payment that’s 50% of their take-home pay, then they need to sell it and either rent or move to a different neighborhood. That’s not a sustainable lifestyle.
How many people reading this blog are just 1 paycheck away from financial disaster? You know who you are. You have a dozen or more maxed out credit cards, your car and house payments stretch you to the limit, and your discretionary spending is out of control. We have to wake up and take responsibility for our actions - especially for our financial actions.
I’ll jump off the soap box now. That just really burns me up.
Back to values. We need to agree on core values in those other areas. Immigration, Iraq, and Economics. What do we believe in those arenas.
And what about eminent domain? The trend is alarming.
I agree with you Mignonette, I’m in Fred’s camp too. But it just doesn’t look promising for him at this point.
well, i am not a thompson supporter, but i do have respect for him…BUT, i will lose all of that respect if he drops out and supports john mccain !!!BECAUSE, fred claimed to be “the only true conservative”…for him to throw his support behind the most liberal candidate in either party>>well, my friends, that would smell of good ole politics and would once again prove that senators are good for nothin!!!! note: i am not a huckabee supporter either !!! i am supprting the only fiscal conservative that is viewed to be strong on terror also !!!!! have a good evening !!
It is a plain fact that Thompson took many of Huckabee’s supporters - one has only to look at the polls to verify it. That is why the media has been saying it - not just Huckabee & his staffers. Some people would obviously prefer to believe that it was because Thompson was a superior choice to Huckabee, but upon closer examination that does not hold up.
Thompson’s political record is as mediocre as his ability to speak extemporaneously (who didn’t notice that he was reading from crib notes at the last debate when he suddenly developed that surprising ’spark’ of intelligibility - clearly a very good actor, but now just as clearly that’s all he is).
Thompson hit Huckabee with a huge laundry list of either false or misleading accusations during that last debate & then people criticized Huck for not answering them all in the 30 seconds he was alloted - get serious!
He was McCain’s co-chair against Bush in 2000 & they are buds (+Thompson supported McCain-Feingold -what kind of conservatism is that?) - is it really just a coincidence that he decided to hang on in SC (McCain’s known trouble spot) after he said he would drop out if he didn’t do well in Iowa? Who’s really auditioning for VP?
Huckabee’s biggest problem is not the few minor mis-steps he has made, but the slime & the sludge that the money people in the party are throwing at him faster than he can possibly effectively counter with his small campaign purse.
It really has come down to whether Americans want qualified men to be able to run for office regardless of how much money they have or if they want it all to be about buying your way into public office.
Seek the truth: mikehuckabee.com and hucksarmy.com for the other side of the story!
Huckabee is a PHONY minister that is totally clueless on EVERY ISSUE except marriage! That is all he knows! No one is PICKING on your poor Huckabee! Huckabee is just not INTELLEGENT to be POTUS! And he has mislead everyone on his records, that is called lying. And that is also called by God a “hypocrite”
Wolves In Sheep’s Clothing
“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you will know them. Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!” (Matthew 7:15-23)
People who “prophesy… cast out demons” and do “many wonders” aren’t just anybody; they’re those seen and respected as Christian leaders. Yet Jesus said among them were “false prophets” and “ravenous wolves” in “sheep’s clothing.”
I’m sure Huckabee is a nice enough guy, but I cannot see him as POTUS. But I’m not sure about McCain or Giuliani either - too old school. Thompson, Romney, or Paul would be better. Vote for someone that can lead our nation toward economic recovery, smaller government, more secure borders, and improved international relations. That person is not Huckabee.
I really wish Huckabee would have won. He would be the easiest rethug to beat. Especially after that speech where he promises to change the Constitution to match God’s word. Regardless, it probably doesn’t matter. I think we could run the kitchen sink against any republican they put up and still win. This great nation just may be ready to dump the republican party into the ash heap of history where it so richly deserves to be.
Whoever will be elected, I hope that blonde women gain a status of National Treasure as they give hapiness to esthetes and men of good taste.
