Pro-Huckabee Group Attacks Romney and McCain
**UPDATE**
Las Vegas, NV—
Governor Romney was asked by a reporter today where he stands on the issue of displaying the confederate flag. This was in response to Governor Huckabee announcing that he would leave the decision to the state of South Carolina (see below). He refused to answer saying South Carolina had already made their decision:
“You know, I’ve said all that I’ve got to say about that. That’s been an issue that’s been settled by the elective representatives of South
Carolina. It’s a settled matter and I have nothing to add to it from what’s already been said.”

Governor Romney is coming under attack from a radio ad put up by a 527 group that supports both Governor Huckabee and his stance on the confederate flag. Another ad by the group also goes after Senator McCain. Both men have come out against displaying the symbol that represents racism for so many people.
The group calls themselves Americans for the Preservation of American Culture. The ad hits Romney and compliments his rival, Mike Huckabee:
“After Mitt, Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee’s stand is a breath of fresh air. Governor Huckabee is a southerner who understands why southerners value our heritage. That honoring our flag is part of honoring our heritage and he says it is our issue, it should be up to us to decide. We have got a message for Mitt Romney: in South Carolina we are proud to be Southerners.”
A rival campaign tells me that, “It’s a tiny 2-day buy” that will air on South Carolina radio in Charleston, Columbia, Florence, and Greenville. The group spent $2,000 in each market for a total of $8,000. The ads will air from January 17th to January 19th.
Romney Press Secretary, Kevin Madden responded to the ad:
“Governor Romney believes that the issue was settled by the people of South Carolina with the compromise in 2000.”
The compromise that Madden is referring to is the removal of the confederate flag from the dome of the South Carolina capitol and moved to the front of the dome, remaining on the capitol grounds.

OK we have bin laden hiding in the caves, we have a credit crunch. we are on the brink of having a war w/ iran. We are on the door steps of a recession. But the flag is one of the center issues? So is huckabee leaning in this little issue to make him win south carolina? I am a southerner also,(GA) my grandfather fought in the civil war many generations ago. I am proud for what he has done. He fought for what he throught was the right thing to do. But i do not make a big deal about the confederate state flag in Ga being altered.
wow–
I agree–
all of these issues the Demoncrats want to talk about pale in comparison to the big issues of the day and who can take care of them
Huckabee wants to send Chuck Norris to the border…good for a laugh, but being President is serious.
Economic problems need more than just a squirrel in every pot (again, huckabee).
We need a real executive to direct the executive branch of the federal government.
Mitt Romney is the only candidate with the real-world experience of creating tens of thousands of jobs, of how the economy actually works and how Washington DC messes things up.
Mitt Romney is presidential.
This is silly. I have spent years living in the South, but I value a country run properly under Governor Mitt Romney far more than some kind of Southern solidarity. lol
I appreciate people’s right to support their candidate of choice, but we should really be thinking, what is best for America?
Romney has a consistent record of setting things right, both in the private and the public sector.
If you are not sure who to vote for, check out http://www.conservativerepublicans.com for more information on Mitt. He is my economic and social conservative of choice, and I am not alone.
I could vote for Huck as his VP, but I don’t think Huckabee is ready to run this country and I sure don’t think he would beat the Democrats in a debate, let alone the election. They have some surprises in store for Mike, but are trying to take out Mitt now, while they have a chance!
Mitt ftw!
I agree Mitt is presidential. He will say absolutely anything to get elected and has surrounded himself with lobbyists. Go Mitt!
Huckabee has repeatedly asked this group to stop, and has even asked the authorities to investigate this group. He has at least four denouncements of this group on his blog. He believes this group is hurting his chances more than it’s helping. I agree.
What more can a candidate do? McCain-Feingold (which Thompson supported) has created this mess of a situation, where 527s can operate independently and even anonymously and not be responsible to anyone.
I’m definitely voting for Huckabee.
And I just heard Huckabee on FOX whining about him getting blasted by 527s from the Club for Growth, and he tried to link them to Romney.
Huckabee the Hypocrite is getting annoying.
You know Huckabee has a hand in this illegal push polling. For someone who claims to be the “Christian candidate”, he isn’t very Christian in actuality at all. I suppose Carl Cameron will find some way to blame this on Romney since it’s appearantly physically impossible for him to stop his blatantly anti-Romney and Thompson, and pro-McCain and Huckabee blog posts and reports.
Apollo, I guess Huckabee is not allowed to joke around.
Seriously, Huck’s border proposal is very solid.
His economic policy is based on conservative principles like reforming the tax system, making sure government does not work against the interests of the people, giving people MORE control over their health care rather than less, and so on.
He’s embraced bold proposals like pushing for energy independence in 10 years.
He’s got the boldest and most positive vision I’ve seen since Reagan. Everyone else is running on supposedly continuing Reagan’s legacy. Huckabee wants to address today’s issues, not just yesterday’s.
Certainly, elements of Reaganism are timeless. But today we need energy independence, instead of Star Wars. We need the FairTax, not just tinkering with the tax code.
Huckabee is a great communicator. Huckabee reaches the people Reagan was able to win. He inspires with positive vision, not negative attacks on his opponents. He’s a stereotype buster. He’s breaking out of the boxes that the liberal media have put us into.
Mark my words, Huckabee is still being seriously underestimated.
Joseph, Romney and Club for Growth are linked. Go to mikehuckabee.com and read all about it. Oh and stop your whining, your getting annoying!! I am voting for Mke Huckabee!!!
Cory and Joseph,
Huckabee’s position on these 527s is consistent. He’s been against the Club for Growth’s 527 and has also spoken out very forcefully against this group that is push-polling supposedly in favor of Huckabee. He’s even called for an investigation by the authorities against this group.
Give the man a break.
Mike Huckabey has a great sense of humor and is quick on his feet. However, if the quote concerning, “where to put the pole” is accurate, he is playing both sides of the fence, that of a Christian with a wink and a nod toward the “base”. It seems Huckabey is playing to a perceived audience. I assume South Carolina will see through the message. It is inconsistent for Huckabey to “distance” himself from the 527s, accuse Mitt of “saying anything to be President”, then make such comments.
I just saw Huckabee on fox complaining about 527 groups campaigning against him. He sure isn’t complaining when these groups are sending out ads for against the other guys. 527 groups work both ways and he really can’t make acquisitions without prove. By the way, some of his 527 group supporters also say Huckabee is the best candidate…. hmmm. Did any 527 groups against Huckabee come out saying who they like? Huckabee is the king of 527 groups and they are not shy about telling the public who they support.
Keeping trying Huckabee, Club for growth has not endorsed ANY candidate. Sounds to be like Huckabee is afraid Romney is his real competition.
Huckabee calls 527 groups calls bad when they are not working for him.
Huckabee can stand on his own record without any help: On immigration: In 2001 He opposed a measure to require proof of citizenship to vote. 2005 - Huckabee supported a bill that offered illegal immigrants instate tuition rates and made them eligible for the same merit-bases scholarships to Arkansas state colleges and universities as legal citizens. The bill would have violated federal law and so was not enacted by legislature. In 2005 Huckabee opposed a bill that would have denied state benefits to illegals. He called the measure ‘unAmerican’. That same year he also promoted an ‘open door’ policy on immigration as he addressed the League of United Latin American Citizens at their national convention in Little Rock.
In 2003 Huckabee called a special session of the legislature to push for a tax increase, refusing a plea from Republicans to curb spending. The average tax burden on a citizen grew by $1,000. the Conservative Cato Institute gave Huckabee an “F” for his final term in office. Yep, Huckabee can stand on his own record.
I like when Huckabee speaks but he buries himself with the rest of the country. GO HUCKABEE, GO! You will be out of this race in no time!
Mitt Romney is the only republican candidate with good sense on the economy. We need good jobs for the american people. Huckabee raise taxes in Arkansas when he was governor. He raised taxes so that the state could send the children of illegals to school and also to help with tuition. He should answer questions directly instead he tries to be cutsey and make a joke. Being president is no joke!
Go Mitt!! Our next president of the United States of America!
Oh course Huckabee has his own ideas about federal taxes. He supports the so-called Fair Tax. This my friends is not fair. This tax would be a sales tax on all goods and services…including groceries. Of course, Huckabee is no stranger to tax on groceries. He instituted a tax on groceries as governor of Arkansas. For those of you who now do not pay tax on groceries…California does not. This would be major. This ‘fair tax’ is based on the assumption that every low income tax payer would be on the Dole…and receive a monthly check from the good old government to offset the cost of the high tax on everything that you would have to buy. This tax is also based on the false assumption that the states would be the ones to collect this tax…but this is not going to happen as it is illegal for the federal government to order the states to do anything. It is against the US Constitution…which Huckabee as a candidate for president should be well aware of. I would only assume that he has in mind that he would try to change the constitution as he has mentioned changing it to be in line with the Bible…but if that is not the case and he cannot get that done…He would have to create an expensive Big Government machine to get this to happen…This is Mike Huckabee and this is not Conservative.
I just hear Cavuto let Huckabee give his campaign pitch, complete with a heavy dose of whining. Then I heard Cavuto open the mike up for Tom DeLay to SLAM John McCain and whine about how he “doesn’t know what he’ll do” if McCain gets the nomination. This was done the day before the South Carolina primary, with no chance of rebuttal from McCain or a McCain supporter. How fair and balanced is that?
Tom DeLay is now a political “nobody” for a reason. He was a leader of a special class of draft-dodging Republicans who, later in life, decided to capitalize on a renewed sense of patriotism in America by running to the front of the pack and talking tough. Now that the self-sacrificing character and true raw courage of John McCain is being appreciated by more Republicans, the mean-spirited guys like DeLay can’t stand it. He even criticized McCain for McCain’s criticism of the way the Bush administration handled the early part of the Iraq war. There’s no doubt now that McCain was right and Bush was wrong, but it took thousands of wounded and/or killed Americans to prove it. Still, all that matters to DeLay is that McCain was not in lockstep with the Republican “leader.”
God save us from tough-talking, chest-beating, draft-dodging Republicans.
I am sad to see so many people buying into the attacks on Huckabee.
I, too, disliked Huckabee by instinct on first impression. But Huckabee is a stereotype buster. To fully understand him you have to know where he’s coming from, what is real plans are, and not just judge him by his rhetoric on the stump. He’s trying to reach out to bring voters into the Republican Party, as Reagan did, but he’s managed to turn off a lot of people in the process.
I’ve had my own journey with Huckabee. First I wrote him off. Then I became interested during the “Huckaboom,” but again wrote him off because of all the anti-Huck propaganda being echoed by many conservatives I respected.
I finally did the research for myself and found the attacks largely to be distortions or falsehoods. Moreover, I discovered a man who can lead. He leads by inspiring, not by browbeating people. He’s got a bold, positive vision that includes the FairTax and energy independence. These are the issues of today.
We would all love to have Reagan back. But although Reagan’s principles are timeless, the concrete proposals needed are different today. We need energy independence, instead of Star Wars. We need the FairTax, not just tinkering with the tax code.
We need a tough, enforcement-first immigration policy that still affirms and praises legal immigration, not an amnesty followed by a promise of enforcement.
For all these reasons, I’ve chosen to think for myself and vote for Huckabee.
I’m disappointed Rush has not yet understood the great potential that Huckabee has. I’m sorry he has fallen for the lines about Huckabee being a tax-and-spending big-government populist. His record, studied in full, belies those accusations.
I like Fred, but I can’t support him when there is a better candidate. Furthermore, I was sorely disappointed in Fred himself when he chose the low road of repeating all the false charges against Huckabee.
When we truly get a new visionary leader for the 21st century, it is sad to see so many sniping at him from his own party.
I’m having trouble believing Huck’s integrity.
In Iowa he said he was above politics and wasn’t going to publish negative Romney ads while he released them to the press. Proving he is either dirty or disorganized and unable to keep his campaign on message.
In South Carolina his ads are implicitly rubbing McCain. In Florida he is sparing with Giuliani. It is illegal for a church to support a candidate; therefore, Huckabee preaches “presidential sermons” instead.
A group called, “Common Sense” (funded by Huckabee supporters) is behind push-poll calls against Romney in Iowa, McCain in New Hampshire, and McCain/Thompson in South Carolina.
If I am expected to vote on Huck’s integrity I need a bit of evidence.
todd,
Huckabee’s position on these 527s is consistent.
He’s been against the Club for Growth’s 527 that has attacked him unfairly.
Huckabee has also spoken out very forcefully against this group that is push-polling supposedly in favor of Huckabee. He’s even called for an investigation by the authorities against this group.
Give the man a break.
The real source of these push-polls is the McCain-Feingold bill that allowed the creation of all these anonymous 527 groups.
When will you people stop trying to malign the campaign of Mike Huckabee by associating him with groups over which he has no influence or control? The American people see those dirty tricks and recognize them for what they are. Huckabee is a man of integrity, something you obviously have no concept of.
However powerful you establishments insiders think you are, I would recommend that you start reading about the French revolution. That is the direction you are heading this country in. When that happens, you should be held accountable for all the distortions, lies, and other perversions of the truth.
I like Huckabee the best of all republicans for all the same reason’s most everyone does. I guess if I were to pinpoint what makes him so magical, it would have to be that he is an ordinary guy. Not so magical, but because he has gotten this far it proves that people are sick of the elite. The elite like McCain, Hilary and Romney do not represent the average American. They don’t have a message or a real reason for running for President. Im a big republican, and Im not lying, I could talk about how future historians will look back on the policies Bush implemented like the War on Terror. He will be looked upon with distiction. Now that I have put my stamp on my republican core, I have to say that all the candidates in the Republican race are awful, except for Rudy. He has my vote, in his absense, I will vote for the next guy I feel will bring change to the White House, and that is Obama. Face it, McCain cant beat a democrat, Huckabee definately couldn’t, but Obama can beat Hilary and thats all I care about. Not to mention Obama idolizes President Reagan. He could have said Kennedy, or even Thomas Jefferson, but to go out on a limb and say Reagan, I have to respect him for that. And for his answer in the debate the other night about “what is your greatest weakness.” Obama replied “that he is not a paper person, his desk is always a mess.” Which Hillary replied that “I am impatient to change America,” and Edwards, “I want to help people so bad it hurts”. Of course these are shortened quotes but the message is clear. Obama is just an ordinary guy, who will look out for ordinary people like myself and all of you. Vote Obama, it is the only way to defeat Hillary, otherwise She becomes dictator of earth.
I am from Massachusetts and I can tell you that Americans will regret it if Mitt Romney becomes President. He is a know flip-flopper, he has changed his mind on serious issues, so what he stand for now will likely change again and again. You really have no clue what this man really believes. Its like Dr. Phil always says, the best predictor of future behavior is looking at a persons past behavior.. Americans look at Mitt Romneys past behavior, we WILL change is mind again…….
People people! Let’s wake up! Huckabee is a good guy and supporter of the GOP, but let’s get serious for a second. I love my evangelical roots, but it’s quite obvious who needs to be leading our nation now.
For starters, Mitt Romney is the only person who could win the general election against hillary or Obama. He’s smarter, better-looking, more charismatic, more optomistic and more credible than any other candidate in both parties! He’s the only one with a proven track record in every facet of leadership. And he has answers for nearly every problem we’re facing. Come on guys, he’s got the perfect American family with Amercian values and every thing he seems to touch turns to gold. Did you see his Michigan victory speech! Our country is facing what could be an economic disaster and we’re all going to suffer if we don’t elect the right man for the job. Let’s put our bias’ aside, and win our party with the man who knows how to get things done.
Mitt for president!

Response to Jenny…
So that’s how you extend thanks to the governor who took you out of a 3 billion dollar deficit and turned it into a 1 billion dollar surplus!-in less than 3 years. Is that how you thank a man who created thousands of more jobs for your state and rescued “TAXachusetts” from its terrible economic state? Do you have anything positive thing to say for a leader who was actually able to cross bipartisan lines and get the blue-est state in the union to agree on principles that they would never have dreamed of before? We’re lucky that such a leader exists. Someone who can Unite America and get things done!
I’m tired of hearing the same “flip-flop” rhetoric from people who can’t appreciate the positive contributions and accomplishments Mitt Romney made for not just our beloved Olympic Games but for Massachusetts as well. Perhaps it’s time to stop covering up our anti-mormon senti-ments with “Mitt Romney is a flip-flopper” and put bigotry aside so that we can have the right man in for President of the country we love.
Kyle, you want an “ordinary guy” to be your President? And that’s what makes Huckabee so “magical”???? Come on, I want an ordinary guy to fix my car, build my house, be my neighbor, but not be the President of the most powerful country in the world!
That’s why my vote is for and “extra-ordinary” guy - Mitt Romney!
I’m sorry, but I’ve got to send a comment to Jenny: When you inject Dr. Phil into any political conversation you’ve started down a slippery slope. And who cares if you’re from Mass. - that doesn’t make you an expert on Romney.
Flip-floping: Let’s at least get the definition correct. Flip-floping is changing your stance (mind) and then changing it back. ROMNEY HAS NOT DONE THIS!!!!!!!!!!! Romney has changed his stance on certain, important issues, but has yet to change them back. Furthermore, I believe Romney’s change on abortion and gay marriage simply show he’s willing to re-examine his decisions and humble himself to make a different choice. Most logical reasoning would tell us this is the kind of mindset we want our next president to have - not a stubborn, “my way or the highway” attitude.
Finally - to all Huckabee supporters: Look, it may well be that Governor Huckabee is a nice man - perhaps even a good manager, but he simply CANNOT win in a general election. There are not enough Evangelical voters in the country. . .as a matter of disclosure, I have nothing against Evangelicals.
Jenny - I appreciate your crystal ball prediction that Romney WILL change his mind again. . .If I purchase a lottery ticket, can I call on you? Turn the good Doctor back on - I think he’s about to wreck Brit’s life. . .
Huckabee is a gifted speaker and a likeable person.
Read interesting articles about him in: Plutarch’s Weblog and Judicial Watch Announces List.
Go Mike!
“Mitt Romney is the only republican candidate with good sense on the economy. We need good jobs for the american people.”
Yeah, and he’s going to bring auto manufacturing jobs back to Michigan from overseas! Ha. It’s laughable what a panderer this guy is. He will say absolutely anything to get elected. His flip-flopping makes Kerry look like Mister Stay-the-course!
I have a few friends who are democrats, and they have never been happier. For months they have been excited for the landslide they thought was coming. Then Huckabee came… Its hard to describe how elated they are with this guy. Its like the stars are all aligning for the democrats.
Here is a man, so determined to win the White House that he will actually say he is not going to use negative advertising not 30 seconds before showing the ad. But wait it gets better. He will then tell all the religious fanatics in the state to vote for him becasue he took the high road, unlike the other mean, rich, corrupt, lying, and downright unchristian man….(who has yet to say anything bad about any candidates character). That was the high road? Wait, better still, lest anyone missed that sickening charade in Iowa due to the fact that all the hypocrisies happened so fast, it has now continued for a month. A month of slandering and backstabbing anyone he can find on his high road.
But the reason that my Democrat friends truly LOVE Mike Huckabee is that he will deliberately fight against the Reagan Coalition. This has been the bane of Democrats for years. This motley crew of folks who are all fighting for separate issues, yet band together to fight as one. Finally, in Mike Huckabee they find a man willing to utterly decimate any hope of winning any election against the Democrats. No Democrat ever elected had the power to defeat the Republicans in such a way.
They particularly love the fact that the very thing they hated about Bush, (that being his absolute faith and devotion to certain causes, even if opposition and odds are against him) is finally being put to use destroying the Republican party. Their champion, Huckabee, calls for religious idiots to have faith that if they vote for him, even though they will be loosing the coalition, and the numbers just can’t work, they will win in the end.
The Democrats will utterly destroy the party if Huckabee is the nominee. I have yet to meet a single individual who will vote for Mike Huckabee in November. My whole family are republicans, as are most of my friends. Most of us will donate and vote for the Democrat just so the party learns what happens if you allow a bigot to destroy the Coalition. It will be a harsh price to pay. Probably 8 years of democrat rule. It’s hard to imagine a candidate worse for the party.
Thus my Democrat friends are ecstatic.
The Huckabee camp (meaning Huck and his supporters) is becoming increasingly sleezy.
Why even bring this issue up? It is sensitve for both groups but it has nothing to do with the President of the United States. It seems as if Huckabee is once again trying to play the “I’m one of you” card.
I was no fan of Romney’s ‘contrast’ ads but they weren’t mean spirited and the issues presented were relevant to voters but this and Huckabee’s push polling just seem as if they are designed to attack and create division.
I have never felt Huck was qualified to be President since he has little post-secondary education but stunts like this tell me he doesn’t have the class to be President either.
I have no idea who the Americans for the Preservation of American Culture are. But it seems odd, even pathetic, that a flag can be considered a “presidential” subject. Get real. The candidates need to focus on substantial issues like foreign policy and the economy. Judging a candidate on trivial matters is a waste of time.
Seriously, is this the best Huckabee can come up with? He’s a good jokester alright, he IS the joke.
Romney will go all the way! He is the only viable candidate, accomplished, educated, strong valued, diplomatic and has a long history of success. He can pull us out of this economic slump.
Seriously, our country is going to DOOM if we even consider any of the other candidates…A skeptic warmonger whose only skill is criticism, A bigoted fire and brimstone preacher, An aged actor who doesn’t even belong in the race, A failed and feeble mayor, A talkative but inexperienced rookie, A cheated wife trying to use her husband’s name…What is this country coming to?
Only Romney is the true Statesman.
ROMNEY for PRESIDENT!!!
Huckabee is a Joke. He fries squirrels, insults other religions, lacks foreign policy, favors Democrat style economics and is funny. He is able to get away with a lot of negative recation by claiming that he was just ‘innocent’. We will have race and religious strife in this country with this guy. Go Romney!!
To Arky, Huckabee is a gifted speaker alright, but we are not electing a gifted speaker or a likable person, we are electing a Leader to lead this country, and Huck is no leader. If elected, he will be like a Jimmy Carter, very likable, but very unefficient. Our economy is in trouble, the terrorist want to destroy this country, and you want Huck to be the President, are you kidding me? Huck was a paid minister, of course he is a gifted speaker, it’s his job to practice day in and day out to smooth talk people. He calls himself a minister, but he is the most unchristian one out of the group, and I am sick of his ” I am holier than thou” attitude.
No Huck, thanks
Romney is the most presidential and electable candidate out there. He has all the qualifications that I expected from a president, highly educated, professional, diplomatic, experienced in both private and public sector, and he has high morals , (as political commentator Dick Morris said,” of all the republican candidates, Romney is the only one that with one wife”).
Our country’s economy is in big trouble, we need someone that has good business sense to lead this country and turn our economy around, and Romney is the one to do it.
Mitt you have my vote.
I don’t get the point of the attacks on romney at all. Both romney and huckabee seem to actually AGREE that the state can decide whatever it wants, they just both said it in different ways. Romney said it in a respectful manner and Huckabee told em where to stick it. Huckabee’s definitely sounding like the kind of person we need as a president right now - NOT.
My vote is going on Mike Huckabee . We need an honest and moral man running this country for a change. Mike was named by Time Magazine as of the top 5 Governors in America. That was before he dicided to run for President. A great decoration!
Mike is authentic and inspiring, making him the best leader I have ever known. He is the type of leader that naturally motivates his men to want to work their hardest , without even telling them to. People under Mike’s comand work their hardest because they love and respect this commander.
Mike Huckabee is the first candidate that I have ever had 100% trust and faith in. Please, go out and vote for him.

Arky, Are you trying to get people to realize that Huckabee was nominated by Judicial Watch for their list of the top most corrupt politicians?…You mean that list and you are just too polite to say so…and you think someone is gonna look it up? Don’t think many people will bother so there it is. And remember Judicial Watch goes after both sides…they went after Clinton…
I really am not a person that attacks anyone…especially a person who is running for president of this country. However, a person running for such a high office should be able to stand up to his or her record. It is a very important decision and it is critical that people are informed before they make that decision and not because they like the way the guy talks…Heck my exhusband was a good looking, great, smooth talker…not many people knew he beat me…That’s relative because what a person doessss is important…you have to judge a presidential candidate by his actions…If you really want to know some things about Huckabee and you want to find out the truth…his record in Arkansas then go to Townhall.com…It is a legitimate sight…Their rep talks on Fox News sometimes…go to the Hugh Hewitt tab and then page 8 I believe…The article is dated January 2 and is Titled “An Open Letter from an Arkansas Evangelical”…this guy lists 7 reasons NOT to vote for Huck…and they are backed up with dates and actions from Huckabee’s time as governor. He is NOT a Conservative…not by a longgggg shot. The writer served as a vice chair on the Republican Committee for a county in Arkansas and he gives facts and Senators and officials names to back up the facts…IF you really think you want to vote for this guy…do some research…
As far as I am concerned BEING A CHRISTIAN is an important part of POLITICS,wether any of you like it or not. At the end of the day,at the end of every day,GOD already knows who the winner is and why. I will not vote for a mormon but I will vote for HUCKABEE or McCAIN.Just because Romney looks great in a suit and speaks well, does not mean he can run our country effectively. Concerned mom from Missouri
Go Mitt Romney! My favorite words of McCain are when he ranted on and on about how much honesty, integrity, and family values Mitt Romney has when he was running for govorner.
Mitt Romney was selected to replace the CEO of the Olympics precisely because he had an impecable reputation for honesty. He then turned it from a 300 million dollar deficit to a 100 million dollar profit by bringing the sponsers back with his integrity.
How does any intelligent republican take Huckabee seriously? Ouachita Baptist University? The leader of the free world? Are you kidding me? 1,000 pardons, 500 million dollar tax increase. He will never get the support of the republican base.
Do we really want a guy that says, “We’d show them where to put the pole…” acting as Commander in Chief, Chief Executive, Chief Ambassador, etc.
I wouldn’t even want the guy running my church. What a loser.
I currently support Mike Huckabee, but I’m concerned about the way that the Republican party has fractured. I’d be willing to switch to Fred Thompson if the Giuliani, Romney, and McCain people will do the same. Let’s come together and focus on the fight in November!
http://www.fredconsensus.blogspot.com/
What most people don’t realize is why the civil war was fought. A simplistic view is “to end slavery” However, at the time the South was fighting the war to preserve States Rights. I think that most folks here have already made their minds up on whom they will vote for. But if you could ask Romney WHY he was running for president what logical reason could he have? On the other hand I would be willing to bet that Huckabee’s answer would be very persuasive.
Cmon you guys. I’ve been watching MSNBC and FXNWS and the internet every day for months now. HUCKABEE is just as concerned about our economy and war in the middle east as any of the other candidate’s. In the days that we live, I understand it is almost considered a bad word to say I AM A CHRISTIAN but hold on to your faith and values. We are all human beings and we all wish there were things in the past we would have done differently, even PREACHERS.I wasen’t too thrilled about “we’d show them where to put the pole” either but is that the worst fact you can come up with? How scary life truly is when AS CHRISTIANS we cannot agree or even to agree to disagree.I would rather see the end of the world than to vote for a mormon or some one with family ties to the middle east. All I’m asking for is a CHRISTIAN leader as president. IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK FOR?
Darla, with all the questions going on regarding the Democrats and race and gender I think the biggest victim of bigotry and undue prejudice this election season may actually be Romney. Romney’s awesome. He’s right on every issue. He’s the best Republican running. He’s just got a couple of little problems: 1) He’s from the North. 2) He believes strongly in a religion that many people just won’t tolerate. I haven’t voted Republican in the past. I’m coming closer to doing it this year than ever. The thing is for me, Romney’s the best man running and if he loses he will lose for really lousey reasons. Then I will vote for an alternative candidate.
Will,Thank you for your comments and I will continue to watch the pro’s and the con’s of all the candidate’s including the democrats. I am not afraid of change as long as I’m sure it is for the better. Many of my friends are also Democrats and we can sat down and discuss what is happening with out heated arguments.I do respect what other people bring to the table and I certainly feel sadness for my friends that are Democrats that feel they don’t have a decent person to vote for, they are as torn as you are.If anyone would want to check out who I voted for in my county election, they might be surprised. I personally knew almost all of the candidate’s and I voted accordingly. So if you think I am some uptight middle aged woman with no brain,or no change you might be surprised.I have until FEB 5th to gather as much information as I possibly can in my itty bitty brain plus I have a printer to help me remember who is slamming who and why.
McCain would make a better Secretary of Defense or National Security Advisor, not President. He has serious judgment shortcomings. He’s been on the “wrong side” of too many important issues, like immigration, campaign finance reform, and tax cuts.
Huckabee is not experienced in the private sector and has no strong record as a crisis manager like Romney. Romney is best prepared to deal with looming economy troubles, national and inter-national.
For evangelicals, the only thing really “wrong” with Romney is his religion–pure religious prejudice held against him. Mormons serve and have served their country with distinction in the military; in city, county, and state government; in federal positions. They are huge supporters of the Constitution and the rule of law. To judge them unfit for the presidency because their brand of Christianity is not like “historic Christianity” is un-Constitutional, un-Christian, and a disgrace to the concept that all men are created equal.
I consider myself a conservative, but I could vote across party line too. If Republicans are stupid enough to not pick Romney as their nominee, then my 2008 vote could go to the Democrats. Here is my current list of candidates in the order of preferences:
Romney
Obama
Thompson
MaCain
Huckabee
Juliani
Clinton
Edward
why do you all bother with plugging your candidates in here everyone that reads posts is already decided on what candidate they want duh. But just in case Go Romney!, be as rich as you want and don’t apologize to anyone for it by darn it. This is America after all, the land of opportunity anyone who doesn’t succeed is just not doing something right.
I was wondering when everyone was going to start slamming me and now is as good as any.I do have to go to bed now but feel free to carry on as I will check back tomorrow evening.
This must be :let bye gones be bye gones for the Romney side…What we have here is a governor from the south that understands heritage, and the feelings of the people of South Carolina in Mike Huckabee:Last week we had Captain Pander ride into Michigan on His white horse claiming to be the native son, having spent 40 million dollars out of is own pocket,on his campaign, who left the State where is family was involved in polotics, and the auto industry,to go elsewhere to make his money, and be the governor of another state, claiming that he would make everything right in Michigan…Where has the Captain been,in his support of his homeland, with all tha money he has.It seems to me that Romney going to Michigan and claiming that he was there to help, was a half truth like all the others he’s spewed out of his mouth.Mitt Romney was there to get help not offer any and the folks in Michigan bought it….A native son, with any compassion at all would have been there long before he needed their vote to say he could be their savior..well he’s gone now,and you might as well let bye gones be bye gones,at least until he needs you again, but there is always another day,and I hope you get another chance in the general election….the people of Michigan have a long row to hoe,and its going to take more than Romney’s kind of promises. It will take a guy that isnt afraid to hang on to the end of the hoe and work alongside you, not one that hovers over you ….Mike, is the person that wears who he is, out where you can see it ….in Romneys case you got underwear and he can’t relate to where we the little people are…..His messages are like nursery Rhymes, having one to fit every states need,no matter what it is…just ask him and he’ll tell you anything you want to hear, and that should be an insult to the intelligence of the American people.
You don’t build a house,by suspending the roof in mid air and then proceed to fill the rest of the house in underneath it….we need to get back to common sense and basics and honesty….vote Mike Huckabee
Chris, what you suggest in your comment as to the consolidation of the oher candidates votes is admirable, but,i guess my friend, its not probable. There’s too many selfish and greedy people both in the running, and in the voting booth. There isn’t any consideration left for the other person.Sometimes it seems that we sell out our future for something that over the longhaul won’t mean anything….we listen to things that, are put out by groups or othe people that have an agenda.
Stick with Mike he’s the guy that has accomplished the most positve things while being reputable at the same time
Romney has everything you would want in a president. I look up to the guy for being able to be so successful in his businesses and his family. Why should people use that against him; I guess he should have worked for free or tried to not be so successful? He’s got an awesome family, very moral background. “Ohhhh, but he’s a MORMON, can’t vote for him cause my preacher done told me them mormons were a cult and they be the devil”
Darla,
When you say you want a Christian leader don’t you really mean someone who has judeo-Christian values, trusts in someone other than himself and acts “Christ-like”? That’s what I am looking for and I am a life-long Baptist.
When I compare the candidates, I get all of that in Romney PLUS I get a very intelligent guy who graduated as valedictorian from Brigham Young University earning his degree summa cum laude. He has a Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School where he graduated cum laude. He also received an MBA from Harvard Business School. He was named a Baker Scholar for graduating in the top five percent of his business school class too.
By comparision, Mike Huckabee went to Ouachita Baptist college for 2-1/2 years earning a Bachelor’s degree in religion. While Huck’s education is clearly not as extensive, it is also not relevant to the office he seeks. He doesn’t have the education to get my job and I suspect most of the other posters’ jobs here so and I personally don’t think he is qualified to be President.
I feel Romney is the superior candidate and although I too had some reservations about his religion, he exemplifies all the characteristics I am looking for in a “Christian leader” and I don’t know of any time in the past when the President’s religion had any effect on policy so Romney has my full support this year.
I feel that our Nation faces some of the toughest challenges we’ve faced since World War II and we need the smartest, most educated and articulate leader we can find. Huckabee likes to say he is a “common man” but in these perilous times I say we need the uncommon man!
“I guess he should have worked for free …”
Just FYI, Romney contributed $1 million to the 2002 Olympics, and donated the $825,000 salary he earned as President and CEO to charity. So he did work for free! He is an amazing guy.
Regarding Michigan, what Romney said there makes sense, and it’s not pandering. Auto industry is too critical to America for any politician to concede a pessimistic view of ‘the jobs lost are not coming back’. If Japan can, why can’t Americans? With innovation and more leveled playing field, America can definitely improve its auto industry. We are not surrender monkey, or are we?
The confederate flag? What ever happened to the kind of issues vote for?
The confederate flag? What ever happened to the kind of issues people vote for?
I sit back and wonder what the world and the United States would be like today, if so many bigoted and stupid americans would have really exhibited their “Christian” principles back in the 1968 republican presidential process! Everything about George Romney said vote for this man and listen to what he says! He came back from Vietnam and stated that we as americans had been “brainwashed” by our elected officials! He dropped in the polls and ultimately wasn’t the Republican nominee for President! Looking back on history…. a prim and proper Quaker who touted the fact that he was a Christian…became our president. His name, Richard Nixon…. Who was right? George Romney that is who! Now 40 years later, we have a second chance to redeem ourselves! To all the missouri moms out there…..who are christians….I lived in Springfield and believe me….I know you have been witness to so-called christians NOT BEING CHRISTIANS! I Personally don’t care if our president is a christian or not…..just a good person who is good for the nation. As far as I can tell….ALL of our nominees, in both parties are Christian…..some to smaller and some to a greater extent….but Christian nevertheless! It becomes a question of who is the BEST, most honest and best qualified to lead this country! Now all of you sit back and take a deep breath and practice what you say you believe…..believe in your GOD and don’t be a bigot! Our second chance of redemption is now….Vote for George’s son….who turned out just like a person would expect, being raised by George Romney….someone we all would like as our son….I am speaking of Mitt Romney….he is the only hope this country has…..just like the Olympics a few years ago…..and he didn’t let us down….all this from a Christian….AND DON’T YOU DARE TO QUESTION MY DEPTH OF FAITH! Go Mitt Romney and may GOD bless us all.
I couldn’t understand some parts of this article FOXNews.com, but I guess I just need to check some more resources regarding this, because it sounds interesting.
There are alot of resources. I think because this year WE DO HAVE alot of different choices. Some people say and think FXNWS is mostly for REPUBLICANS.Some people have said and think that CNN leans towards the DEMOCRATS.I try to watch both but it seems that FOR ME,I get a pretty good spread watching MSNBC.I feel sorry for anyone that does not have cable or satellite BUT the 5.30 and 6.30 news on regular T.V. is picking up on some of the political views.Wether they are considered bias I DO NOT KNOW.I love to read and I THINK that alot of people do,so if you can subscribe to your local paper-go that route.TIME magazine has had some interesting articles. My mom gets TIME magazine and passes it on to me and then I pass it down the line as well.Just don’t get caught up in what EVERYONE else wants you to do.Don’t EVER be afraid that just because YOU want to vote for someone that YOU would like to see win.More than likely I will be shot in the back and be hanging on the court house steps because of what my personal choices and values are BUT for the rest of you GO AND VOTE IN PEACE and feel good about your decision.I will positively vote for any of the REPUBLICAN’s that are leading EXCEPT for Romney. If he wins and he could then I will have ALOT more to consider after FEB 5TH.AND IF he does win the whole darn political process,I WILL NOT BE DEVASTATED.I have not seen ANY MAN OR WOMEN that can walk on water.
P.S. Rest assured,I don’t even question THE DEPTH OF YOUR FAITH.It sure isn’t me you have to be worried about.PLEASE continue to slam me.It gives me the same assurance that I started with.YOU INSPIRE ME.
I was thinking the other day about the very most frightened I had ever been in my whole entire life.I remember the day,the month, the year and what time it all went down. I also remember who I was praying to. I have a family member that served well over 20 years in the US ARMY before he retired a handful of years ago. I had never THANKED HIM until now for doing JUST THAT.TO EVERY SINGLE MAN AND WOMAN THAT HAS EVER FOUGHT FOR MY COUNTRY AND IS STILL FIGHTING FOR MY COUNTRY AND CONTINUES TO FIGHT FOR MY COUNTRY-THANK YOU.YOU have my utmost respect for fighting for the VERY FREEDOMS that the USA has brought to this country. To all of the moms, the dads, the brothers, the sister’s,the husbands, the wives and children, I know you must all be very proud.Last but not least,I CAN NOT EVEN IMAGINE LOSING 1 OF MY CHILDREN in a world of such hatred and violence. To say that I am sorry will never touch the pain that you must feel every day.If EVER, YOU would want to share anything about your loved one ,YOU have my ears even if your voting for Romney. What alot of YOU would LOVE to think about me is DEAD WRONG. I DO NOT go around thumping people on the head with THE BIBLE.I DO NOT go around shoving THE BIBLE in anyone’s face.I AM NOT a person that WOULD EVER bomb or harass another church or a single human being that happens to believe differently than I do. I DO NOT have a problem with the color of your skin and I DO NOT have a problem if you are a REPUBLICAN or a DEMOCRAT. Now PLEASE,READ THIS OR HAVE SOMEONE READ IT TO YOU.You think I am a bigot? Give yourselves 1/2 hour for the rest of YOUR LIFE.WHO were YOU praying to WHEN YOU WERE REALLY SCARED? I don’t know if you were 5 years old, 60 years old or somewhere in between.I’m still hanging in there with HUCKABEE and McCAIN and any of the REPUBLICANS that DOES NOT include Romney.
P.S. If your hungry and want to stop by I better GET THE VIDDLES AND THE POSSUM AGOIN ON MY WOOD STOVE.BETTER GET MY YOUGNS FEED.CANT LET MY POSSUM GET TOUGH.I’m actually thinking about making ORANGE CHICKEN.This little note is only directed to those of you WHO THINK that I am a real hoosier because I live in the great SHOW ME state.
