Huckabee Signs “No Amnesty” Pledge in SC
Tigersville, SC-
GOP Hopeful Mike Huckabee, who has sharpened his anti-illegal immigration talk recently, as he competes for the first in the south primary of South Carolina, put an exclamation point today next to his hardening stance on border security.
At an event sponsored, by two anti-illegal immigration umbrella groups, Huckabee signed a “No Amnesty” Pledge, that read in part that as president he would oppose” amnesty or any other special path to citizenship for the millions of foreign nationals unlawfully present in the United States.”
Roy Beck, head of Americans for Better Immigration, one of the event organizers, said Huckabee was the only presidential candidate so far to sign the pledge.
When asked if his rival John McCain should also sign the pledge, Huckabee side-stepped the question with a customary joke.
“I’m not going to speak for him. I have trouble enough speaking for me. I mess up enough speaking for me,” Huckabee said to laughter in the room.” Now if I thought I could mess up speaking for him, I’d go ahead and speak for him.
Beck however responded a little more bluntly. ” I think everybody should take the same pledge or at least promise it in some other way,” Beck told reporters. “But I think he made it clear in the South Carolina debate last week that at least 10 million illegal aliens ought to stay here permanently.” Beck replied, a slight smirk crossed his face as he finished the last sentence of the press conference.

Interesting that a Governor who wanted to create a Mexican Consulate in his state capital to facilitate the use of illegal immigrants in his state would now sign a pledge against illegal immigration.
Interesting that a Governor who endorsed democrats for the legislature in his own state against the republicans who opposed his liberal immigration policies would now embrace a strong anti-illegal immigration pledge.
Interesting that a Governor who accused those who opposed his desire to provide state entitlements to illegal immigrants as being bigots and prejudiced has now decided that illegal immigrants are a drain on government.
Can you spell “flip flop”?
Today, the following businessmen from Arkansas released a statement in support of former Arkansas Governor, Mike Huckabee: Scott T. Ford, President and CEO, Alltel Corporation; Warren A. Stephens, President and CEO, Stephens Inc.; Madison Murphy, Former Chairman, Murphy Oil Corporation; John Tyson, Chairman of the Board, Tyson Foods, Inc; and French Hill, Chairman and CEO, Delta Trust and Banking Corporation:
“We are a traditionally bi-partisan group of executives of several of the largest corporations headquartered in the State of Arkansas, each with considerable exposure to the Administration of Governor Mike Huckabee. Of late, Governor Huckabee has attracted what we believe to be unwarranted criticism regarding his business record.”
“Our experience with Governor Huckabee indicates that he not only values greatly the freedoms of religion and liberty, but of the free market as well. He is an atypical leader who garnered the respect of not only the professional business community but of the working men and women across our State as well.”
“When he became our Governor, he inherited our long sub-standard education system, infrastructure, and regulatory climate. Under his leadership, we were able to grow our businesses, increase our employment, reduce our litigation exposure and enjoy, along with all of our fellow Arkansans, a healthier economy, improved schools, updated highways, and new healthcare delivery facilities.”
“In our support of Governor Huckabee’s truly conservative, small government business outlook and his pragmatic, yet compassionate style of governing, we invite you to look past the shallow rhetoric of yet another campaign season to see what we have experienced first hand - that with the right political leadership in place, businesses and citizens can jointly prosper and as they do, they contribute so much more to the economic and societal fabric of a community than simply tax revenues.”
Check out Huckabee’s complete immigration plan on his website. It’s the best, most comprehensive yet JUST plan I’ve heard!
What a dupe? He’ll do anything anybody tells him. This and his proposed anti-abortion and anti-gay constitutional amendments pretty much kill his chances. This is the second nativist extremist figurehead who has figured out how to pull his strings. NumbersUSA is one of the thirteen organizations started by John Tanton, a well-known white supremacist, immigration restrictionist and nativist. Four of them, including FAIR, have been characterized as “hate groups” by the Southern Poverty Law Center. Huckabee is incredibly naive and is getting some seriously bad advice.
Huckabee Defends Immigration Record - By Denying It
While campaigning in South Carolina, Huckabee has found a novel approach to defending his record of open-borders and encouraging immigration. He’s denying it. He says his record has been “misrepresented” so he’s trying to re…
It’s clear everybody at Fox News got the memo that Huckleberry’s the favorite. Yes Fox news has become a favorite for Republicans with what we finally hoped was fair and balanced reporting but apparently they’re underestimating the fact that we are smarter than Liberals (proven by the fact that we are not Liberals) and know blatant Media bias when we see it. Thank God for the Information Super Highway. We don’t need talking heads to tell us what to think. We don’t like RINO’s or comedians exploiting Christ in a quest for power.
FRED 08
HUCKABEE IS THE MAN.
mitt - a fake greasy hair salesman that will tell you ANYTHING to make the sale or get a vote. He is the POSTER CHILD for dirty and corrupt politics. How could you vote for ANYONE who offers to murder your baby for 50 bucks?!?!?!?!?!? THAT IS SICK!!!!! I will sit home on election day if he get the nom.
MIKE - will be audited by the IRS for the rest of his life….but he will take it to start the fight for the American people. I AM SICK of being raped by the IRS every time I open a paycheck. Just LOOK how the tax groups are going after him. THEY ARE SHAKING IN THEIR BOOTS!!!!!
Mike’s record has been HORRIBLY twisted and lied about. He is for closing the borders, lowering taxes and stopping people like mitt and the dems who like to MURDER babys. He is for small govt. and giving the power BACK to the people. I know everyone likes to take what the rich elite, like Rush and Fox news, spoon feed them….but STOP DRINKING THE KOOL_AID. THESE PEOPLE ARE GETTING RICH FROM OUR TAX DOLLARS. OF CORSE they want mitt to win HES ONER OF THEM…
DC ISN”T BROKEN….MITT IS
VOTE HUCK!!!!
DOWN WITH THE IRS!!!!
All of you calling Huck a flip-flopper, you have got to realize that the issue has not taken on as much significance as it has today, until recently.
You might call me a flip-flopper if you judged me by the same standards. I only really became concerned with illegal immigration in the last year or so. I’m a staunch supporter of both NumbersUSA and Huckabee. I believe his pledges, because I see him making the same kind of journey that I have traveled on this issue.
Huck’s plan for addressing illegal immigration is spelled out much clearer than I’ve heard from anyone else. He’s got himself pledged and tied down now to this position, so I’m not afraid he will change his position. I have confidence he will do at least the two things I think are most important: seal the borders, and address it at the level of the employers.
Moreover, those who say he’s advocating a “touchback” approach where illegals just have to leave for a few days, are misunderstanding (or intentionally misrepresenting) his position. Illegals would have to go to the back of the line in his plan. However, he also advocates ramping up the efficiency of the processing, so that those entering legally, and who qualify, could come in without waiting years upon years. That doesn’t say every illegal who leaves and goes to the back of the line will even qualify to come back in. It just says that if they do, they won’t have to wait years for the bureaucracy to move– because they will be treated equally to everyone else in line.
Is Huck the most hardline candidate on this issue? I’d say he’s grown a lot in the right direction. I wouldn’t say he’ll be the hardest. But then again, I’m not sure we really want the hardest of the hardliners’ position on this issue. Let’s be realistic. A completely hardline approach would probably not get passed.
Finally, I like Huck’s positive attitude. Our hardline stance gives fodder to those that say we are racist, albeit unjustly. Huck defuses that by saying the goal is to have everyone here be able to hold their head high and not face discrimination and not be looked down on– PRECISELY because they will be LEGAL, and fairly so. It is stupid for us to shut out the world. We just want people to be here legally so we can treat them with the dignity that we as Americans want everyone to receive.
Too late waffler
DB,
YOU SAID IT BROTHER!!!!
I would rather have a high sales tax. then I CAN DECIDE if I pay my bills or the crooked polititians!!!
Mike is the only one fighting for the people, all the others are fighting to line their pockets with OUR tax dollars. Why is it if someone steals anothers paycheck they go to jail? BUT the IRS can do it to pay out polititans and lobbiest and they get away with it WTF?!?!??!?
The IRS is ORGINIZED CRIME!!!!
I’m voting for Huckabee too!!!
Stephanie,
It’s incredibly laughable that you would suggest Fox News has a bias toward Huck. Recently, they’ve been doing their utmost to avoid mentioning him, while giving Fred as much coverage as they can without looking too obvious doing it. When they do mention Huck or let him on, it’s usually to repeat the false accusations of those attacking him. He answers it, but they keep repeating the same old canards.
I’d like to see a count of the number of times Huck is on divided by the number of times he’s asked about these accusations. Then compare it to the same figure for any of the other candidates.
Fredhead, it’s too late for your candidate.
Fred is old and has NOOO chance. He should go back to bed.
Dear Mr. President Huckabee:
I do not understand why the people in the U.S.A. would even consider any other person for the office of the president. To me and my family, you are the only clear choice to have the most decent man in years to be elected to office. I”m 50 years old and I have waited for years for someone to represent my values and morals. I think you did a great job in Ark. as a Governor but I respect you more as a man of truth. Many People won”t understand the word truth cause they don’t want to take the responsiblility wich comes with it. I’m a firm Believer in the saying BROAD IS THE WAY AND NARROW IS THE GATE! Many people will be surprised when that daycomes. I DO NOT WANT YOU TO GIVE UP during this most important time in our history. We need you to stay strong and let God continue to lead you in this journey. We have prayed for a long time for our country to be led by a man of God with convictions that will finally make a difference in the live of believers. Please do no not q
I think some of your are missing the point……Huckabee made the pledge…how about the others? A lot of people don’t understand that Immigration is a Federal issue not a state issue. You can’t blame Huckabee for the lack of action done in his state. If it was up to the states…then poor Texas, New Mexico, etc……they would have to pay for the majority of cost to protect the other states. I think that Mike got upset what he saw going on in his state and said….I’m going to do something about it….I’m going to run for President! Why didn’t Fred do something when he was in the Senate? Why did McCain ignore the people this past year?
The only thing more screwed up than the IRS is the INS. Except now it’s been split into two equally nutty organizations US Citizenship & Immigration Services & Immigration Customs Enforcement. It’s difficult to hear people complain about ‘illegal immigration’ when you know they haven’t had to deal with these agencies.
I have to laugh at Romney supporters when they attack Huckabee on immigration. When Romney had illegal workers taking care of his yard and when he found out he kept the company that hired them. I guess it’s was probably cheaper to have illegals mowing his lawns than American citizens. I’m sure he can’t afford to pay the wages those legal citizens ask for. Everyone seems to forget the sudden epiphany McCain and Romney have had on illegal immigration. Romney changes his position on any issue every time the wind blows and McCain is trying to ignore his record on illegal immigration.
The spin over Huckabee’s “supposedly” soft stance on immigration is usually limited to rhetoric about the bill he supported to not exclude illegal immigrants from benefiting from in-state tuitions breaks. Why doesn’t anyone make the connection that how you have to deal with immigrants once they get here has anything to do with what your opinion might be on preventing them breaking the law in the first place? I could be perfectly intolerant of the governments failure to secure our borders and still have an interest in not encouraging the victimized children dragged here by their parents to end up on the street turning into criminals when they get older.
The guy is a HACK. Has anyone who supports him actually seen him in a debate? Do you hear him. Heck, even is Immigration plan has an ENORMOUS flaw. He wants the illegal immigrants to go home on their own so that when the do get here legally they can hold their heads up high. Who in their right mind thinks that is going to happen? How is it that his man can spout out a totally rediculous plan and yet is followers lap it up? Have we forgotten, as a people, how to think?
“He wants the illegal immigrants to go home on their own so that when the do get here legally they can hold their heads up high. Who in their right mind thinks that is going to happen?”
Because if they don’t within 120 days after the plan begins, and are caught within our borders afterwards they will be deported and not allowed into the USA again by any means for 10 years–and this comes after the fence is completed making crossing much more difficult. Read the 9-point plan, ask yourself why the Minutemen’s co-founder endorsed Huckabee based on it a couple months ago, and what Gilchrist understands that maybe you don’t.
In response to Ike and others, the lack of knowledge you have in regards to Huckabee is deafening. You really should consider researching his positions and his record before you commence to having diarrhea of the mouth (or fingers in this case).
Hearing Huckabee in a debate back in September is what drew me to him. I have watched each debate since then. He stands head and shoulders above them all during debates. If you read Huckabee’s Secure America Plan you would see that simply asking Illegals to go back home is a gross mis-statement on your part and you should be ashamed. Building a fence is job 1. Nothing else matters until this is done. There are 8 other parts to this plan and includes stiffening penalties for companies that hire Illegals. If no one hires them, they will have to go back or starve. Reforming the Immigration process so it doesn’t take 8 years to get here is another major part of this plan. Making it more streamlined will encourage those already here illegally to go back because they know they won’t have to wait a decade for their return. Go read the plan and you will see that you have been sorely misguided.
Stephanie, I am guessing you do not watch FoxNews much? To say that Huckabee is prominently displayed on FoxNews is laughable. They bash him at every turn. They still refer to him as a Baptist pastor instead of Former Governor half the time. I don’t hear them referring to Romney as Former Bishop Romney. Huckabee was Governor for 10.5 years while Romney was only Governor for 4 years. Seems to me if they can call Romney Governor, they should call Huckabee Governor. Or else start referring to Romney as Former Bishop Romney. FoxNews also continues to rehash old issues that no one talks about anymore because they have been debunked but FoxNews knows that some people like you will continue to be gullible and buy their crap at wholesale.
Don Quixote, Huckabee has never said he is Anti-Homosexual but merely for Traditional Marriage. That has nothing to do with individuals who happen to be Homosexual. He believes, as do most Americans, that marriage is between one woman and one man for life. He also believes life begins at conception, which is also what most Americans believe. So I think he is in pretty good company on these issues you say doom his candidacy.
Come on people, wake up. If you want to simply read your own candidates talking points and make your mind up to vote for them, then go ahead. But don’t go spewing that garbage at everyone else because some of research all the candidates and make up our own minds.
first and morefost,i’m voting for mike huckabee, why, because i know when he becomes president of this great country,he will tell the truth to the american people, and like family,he truly cares about families, small bussiness, health care, cutting taxes, and formost,he gonna keep god,in our country, and bring peace among our congress, and senate, and they will beable to help the american people and family of this great country,i want the people to really think who they can trust,i mean really trust, and when their families and themself go to bed at night, they know they are safe, cause the president running their country,is a men of god!!!! who is not gonna lie to them, and keep it right in the white house!!!!!!!!!
Huck never had the *alls to enforce immigration laws on the books and even tried to go against existing law and provide in-state tuition to illegal aliens in Arkansas. That’s a slap in the face to people like me who after getting out of the military, had to pay out of state tuition when I moved to a new area. But now he says he’s going to enforce the law? Sure. Vote for Fred.
This is what I’m talking about. Way to go Huck!
Stephen

I trust Huckabee about as much as Romney. They both seem to have a great ability to say whatever they think people want to hear. I do think that Huckabee does have some personal positions that he will stick to, where Romney I’m convinced is an empty suited Republican version of Bill Clinton. His position on any given issue will change depending on which way the wind is blowing.
The only way to solve the problem of illegal immigration is to take away the incentives to come here. I understand that hospitals treat people who show up in their emergency rooms even if they have no insurance or hope of paying - that to me is ok. Public schools for children of illegals? That’s crazy unless we want more illegals to come here. Birthright citizenship? If I was a pregnant female and had the ability to sneek into this country, knowing that I’d get free heatlhcare for the delivery then the baby would automatically be a US citizen, then I would never be kicked out because nobody wants to separate a family and how can you force a US citizen out of the country…I would come across the border too.
The 14th ammendment needs changed so that children of illegals are not citizens. Who proposes such a thing? Ron Paul.
Of course, since Huckabee, Romeny, etc. do not understand what is causing the problems with the economy we could elect one of them and eventually people will stop sneaking in to the country because things will better in Mexico than here. I encourage everyone to take a real look at Ron Paul- he is honest, he is for lower taxes, smaller, less intrusive federal government, and has the only idea of how to fix the economy.
None of the canidates are perfect. We must all choose the lesser of evils. For me it is Mike Huckabee. He has changed his stance on imigration. I believe this is due to what he has learned from being out among the people of our great nation. He is hearing from us and not just the special intrest groups that he was exposed to as governer. We all have a right to change our mind. Yes I am an independent conservitive.

Mike has the experience necessary to be our next president. He has not changed his position on immigration. As governor he had to deal with an illegal immigration problem that is broken.
As president he will fix the problem. Go to http://www.mikehuckabee.com and view his comprehensive plan to end immigration. We are with you Mike.
No amnesty?
Promises, promises–what did he do as governor? Look at his record. He helped Tyson Foods when they were importing illegal aliens.
Huck fought for scholarships for adult illegal aliens. Using taxdollars to pay for it!
Huck flip flop extraordinaire.
PS–in regards to his ‘fair tax’ he can’t even get the numbers right. He claims that it is a 23% sales tax across the board, right? What it is in reality is a 30% sales tax–on a $1.00 purchase, without sales tax, it would now cost $1.30. 30 cents is 23% of the total price, but is 30% of the cost of the goods sold.
He can’t even be honest about that!–the President could not pass that. reality check, people.
Remember, this is the guy who fought the Arkansas legislature to keep sales tax on FOOD!!!
He is a bleeding heart big government tax and spend bureaucrat. period. He is conservative on one thing-abortion-but nothing else.
So Huck stands there says illegal immigration is bad is NOW but not more than a year ago he was all for it… and you guys accuse Mitt Romney of flip flopping? Holy cow, I might give Huckabee the fact that he has the right to change is mind but, he will just have to do as Mitt Romney did, come out and admit he was wrong on the issue when he had made statments and judgements earlier. but that wont happen, he just flat out denys that he ever supported it. Oh and to DB Mitt Romney was FORCED to include abortions in his public health plan, the supreme court made him have it covered! so why dont you step out of the Bayou for a few minutes get some fresh air, the gators will be ok if you dont feed them right away and get a reality check!
If Mike Huckabee has been so consistant on immigration, why did he feel that he needed to sign a pledge to get more people to support him? No more Mexican moles for president, vote for Fred.

STOP HUCKABEE!!!!
Yep, after 120 days 20 million people are going to be rounded up because Huck is so tough on illegal immigration. Heck if they give him a $600 chainsaw can they stay and even work for the US government. MORONS Do some research and look at it objectively. IN the South Carolina debate, Huckabee got it handed to him. How can anyone say he is head and shoulders above the rest. I am not a Thomson man, but he clearly won that debate. If you saw it and didn’t think so, then you are obviously so blinded by bias that you opinion is worth ZERO.
We have been voting for well over a quarter of a century in every single election; local and national. Mike Huckabee is the first candidate that we have ever given a campaign contribution. We have given now several times and will give again. He has been smeared constantly by the media (ESPECIALLY Fox News, Sean, Rush) and by the way, I am a FORMER DITTO HEAD, yet - Mike Huckabee is still number one nationally. Why is that? Because there are real people like us that do real research before casting our vote and we KNOW the TRUTH. WE WILL BE VOTING FOR MIKE HUCKABEE!
Governor Huckabee was re-elected until his term limits expired in Arkansas. Do you really think that is because he was a bad Governor???? Get real. Governor Huckabee was named one the BEST FIVE GOVERNORS IN AMERICA by Time Magazine. I have relatives all over Arkansas and I know for a fact they all loved him as their Governor and will be voting for him as President.
Excerpt from Dick Morris article:
Huckabee is a Fiscal Conservative
By Dick Morris
In Arkansas, the income tax when he took office was 1 percent for the poorest taxpayers and 7 percent for the richest, exactly where it stood when he left the statehouse 11 years later. But, in the interim, he doubled the standard deduction and the child care credit, repealed capital gains taxes for home sales, lowered the capital gains rate, expanded the homestead exemption and set up tax-free savings accounts for medical care and college tuition.
Most impressively, when he had to pass an income tax surcharge amid the drop in revenues after Sept. 11, 2001, he repealed it three years later when he didn’t need it any longer.
He raised the sales tax one cent in 11 years and did that only after the courts ordered him to do so. (He also got voter approval for a one-eighth-of-one-cent hike for parks and recreation.)
He wants to repeal the income tax, abolish the IRS and institute a “fair tax” based on consumption, and opposes any tax increase for Social Security.

Stephanie, I am guessing you do not watch FoxNews much?
Everyday but not anymore. Fox is no better than the rest of the MSM, I was fooled for a while there.
You certainly did not read the blogs on this very website after Ohio or you would know I’m not alone in my observation but Fox pulled that blog pretty quick.
Nice editorial zzzzzzzz. Post Much?
ibelievehuckabee…you can believe that man if you want HOWEVER, if I were you I wouldn’t quote Dick Morris as a good person to call out who is a true conservative…other people may consider the source. Dick Morris was a political consultant for BILL CLINTON for 20 years and hmmm…Bill Clinton’s wife is running for office…Not exactly the best person to use as an endorsement for HUCKABEE…ugh…I can’t follow that logic. As for endorsements on the whole…as there is another post here that lists endorsements for Huckabee. Endorsements for ANY candidate is a very sad way to make up anyone’s mind. Why would I think that anyone else is more able to make up my mind for me and make that decision for me? Are you trying to tell me that I should give up my FREE AGENCY to choose? Not happening. If any of you out there have changed your mind on who you will vote for because some ENDORSEMENT told you who to vote for…IF any of you out there have changed your vote, because a POLL of 500 people randomly picked thought differently…If any of you plan on staying away because of any POLL that makes you believe that they have the prophetic ability to call this election…then YOU are part of the problem. PLEASE educate yourself as to the candidate’s track records. That is why this particular election is so much fun. People are doing just that. They are thinkin’….As for me….GO MITT! The real conservative out there. I can’t afford McCain’s handout plan to put 12 Million more instant citizens in Social Security or Earned Income TAX returns every year…($4,000 to $5,000 a year.)
Did you guys catch the MSNBC comment by Huckabee when he said that he plans on changing the US Constitution so that it will be more in line with the BIBLE? Now I am a very conservative Christian, HOWEVER, this is wrong. AND not presidential. What makes him think that our constitution is not in line with the Bible anyway? Our constitution is based on the Rule of Law…and yes, moral men drew it up but we do not want our country run by a pastor…we are electing a president.
I don’t care if this is a flip flop it makes me like him A LOT MORE. People this is a Republic it is a GOOD thing when politicians “update” their stances to follow the will of the people.
The fact that he did this is a big deal and is another reason that “Shifty McCain” and his illegal alien relief plan is going down in flames.
I still like Romeny but I love Huckabee for doign this and it makes me feel a lot better. Let’s see what Mitt and “Shifty MCAmnesty” do in response.
McCain is an unrepentant and arrogant open borders zealot he is incapable of serving the real citizens of the US.
I don’t trust a think Huckabee has to say.
He said three times, onece on National TV that he had a theology degree. He does not.
He said repreatedly that he has not pardoned murderers, he has pardoned 12.
He said the only proposed scholarships to high grade illegal kids; he proposed tuition break for all and financial aid for all entitled.
He said he was for tough enforcement of immigration, omitting to mention in Ohio his touch back amnesty plan which have them all back the next day.
This latest plan will take how many years to implement? Bet he drags his feet like Bush is doing.
This guy is a huskster.
I forgot, Judicial Watch has Huckabee as one of its top ten most unethical.
He can sign whatever he wants, everyone knows he’s soft on illegal immigration. We are not fooled.
As Governor of Arkansas, “Mr. Huckabee signed a 2005 bill that allowed the state police to enter into an agreement with federal immigration officials to enforce immigration laws.” The federal 287(g) program.
“He signed that bill,” said Gilbert Baker, a state senator in Arkansas. “That is fact.”
But Mr. Huckabee failed to follow through on the measure before leaving office. To this day, Arkansas does not have the federal 287(g) program in place. The representatives of the people, sent that law to his desk and he squashed it and complained about the immigration raids at the Tyson plants and gave illegal aliens instate tuition, instead of representing the people of Arkansas.
He’s a man that will do what he please when he is in power. Just like King George.
His signature means nothing.
Dixie
I wonder why I never hear about Fred Thompson being one of the few Republican Senators that voted with the Democrats against the impeachment of Clinton. Even liberal minded John McCain voted with the Republicans. How can Thompson claim to be the true conservative?
Any way you measure it, Mike Huckabee is the true conservative in this race.
Huckabee says whatever he thinks will get him elected. As govenor he was very soft on illegal immigration and I do not believe as president he will change his stance. If he will lie in front of millions of people about having a theology degree, he will lie about anything. I am not fooled.
NO Huck for me!!!!!
With these comments do we smell a Clinton/Huckabee ticket or maybe Huckabee/Obama.
Huckabee issues are all liberal. They change their issues according to who they speak too. SC I believe might surprise you Mr. Huckabee.
Huckabee is a gifted speaker and a likeable person.
Read interesting articles about him in: Plutarch’s Weblog and Judicial Watch Announces List.
Go Mike!
This further solidifies Mike Huckabee as the premier candidate on illegal immigration. He has the endorsement from the founder of the Minutemen, has published a detailed plan of how he would handle the immigration problem, and now has pledged to not offer amnesty. Also, he supports the FairTax, which is an economic discouragement for illegals to stay in our country, since it taxes them in a way that they cannot escape. Show me another candidate who can say they have a better plan than this!
Oh, and for all of you doubters out there that like to focus on the minor things: He did allow the children of illegal immigrants who did exceptionally well and attended Arkansas schools for their entire career to apply for a scholarship given out by the state. However, the only reason he did this was to be compassionate to the children of illegal aliens and not punish them for the illegal activities of their parents. It doesn’t worry me at all, and is a minor detail. Mike Huckabee is a man of his word and can be trusted. He is a man of conviction, and he is a man with a plan, the best plan, to stop illegal immigration. And, the endorsements of the Minutemen and others prove that they, the people on the front lines of the illegal immigration battle, support Mike.
I applaud the fact that Mr. H. has stood up for something very important to most Americans. Americans need to push this issue in this election and make sure the world of politics doesn’t reverse its recent advances to protect the American people.
Here are three reasons that are focused on PRINCIPLES not PERSONALITIES, of why the Republican party will likely suffer in the General Election if Mitt Romney is the nominee due to the fact that a few legitimate issues of how Mormonism can affect a president Romney and America in general have been placed out of bounds during the Republican primaries.
(1) Romney took the most stringent Mormon temple oath that he would forever support and promote the interests of Mormonism. The language of this oath is most strictly devised and cannot be ignored, no matter what he says, if he is to remain true to Mormonism as he has said he will do. The Mormon temple oath could affect America in many ways. For example, just like Islam, the Mormon Church is determined to spread its influence in every country. Mormonism is not been allowed in many countries. China is one of those where Mormonism is not allowed to operate. What will a president Romney do if China makes a secret offer in favor of Mormonism in return for an advantage that a president Romney can influnence in China’s behalf? China most assuredly is not above such deals. The Mormon temple oath is the most emphatic and unequivocally devised oath that could exist, binding the oath taker to be the servant of Mormonism above all other interests. This is not speculation or an assumption; it is a fact!
(2) Theologically, Mormonism believes its “prophet” is the only mouthpiece of God on earth and that “whether by his [God's] voice or by the voice of his servants [the Mormon "prophet"] it is the same.” This is in accordance with Mormon scripture and any Mormon who says otherwise is dishonest. If the Mormon prophet claims he receives instructions from God pertaining to a Romney presidency, how will Mr. Romney turn his back on God by ignoring the Mormon “prophet”?
(3) Mormonism still claims that its racist policies affecting the black race was commanded by God. While Mormonism discontinued its openly racist policies in 1978, doing so under immense pressure, after resisting doing so for decades, it still believes God has looked upon the black race less favorably than other races. Mormonism came to this belief even though the Bible says God is no respecter of persons. That it still believes its racist policies was the will of God is offensive and many people will find it offensive as it becomes known that Mormonism still clings to this belief.
Mitt Romney is becoming more and more known as a flip-flopper. This is consistent with Mormonism in that the God of Mormonism has flip-flopped again and again. The sanctity of marriage, the treatment of the black race of people, its extreme beliefs that the Mormon Zion would be established in the state of Missouri, the declaration that a system be practiced without exception that some have characterized as a communistic system as described in Mormon scriptures known as its Doctrine and Covenants, that Jospeh Smith must give approval to all who would enter God’s Kingdom, that the United States would be thrown down with not so much as a “potsherd” left, among other strange beliefs. So, if God can flip-flop, why can’t anyone flip-flop if to do so is advantageous to his motives? It is a dis-service to the American people for such a person with such beliefs not to be asked questions. It is not a religious test to ask questions and to let the people make up their own minds about a person’s qualifications for the presidency.
[...] Huckabee Signs “No Amnesty” Pledge in SC [...]
His “No-Amnesty” Pledge has a major loophole
On a re-reading, it becomes apparent that the Pledge itself (quoted in the previous post) is very weak. By itself, the Pledge is hardly different from anything that McCain might say. Most troubling is the language:
“I pledge to oppose amnesty or any other special path to citizenship …”
This implies that “amnesty” means a special path to citizenship. Therefore if Huckabee opposes a special path to citizenship, he has opposed amnesty. Which means that under this Pledge he could allow legalization of illegals. Indeed there is NOTHING in this Pledge that precludes the instant legalization of all illegal aliens in the U.S. And, of course, legalization of illegal aliens–permanent legal residency in the U.S.–is the real desire of illegals and their advocates, not citizenship. So I am very disappointed that Roy Beck did not insist that the Pledge itself include language specifically barring granting any legal status or anything having the color of legal status to illegal aliens. It cannot be said often enough that amnesty means giving an illegal alien legal status in the United States. It doesn’t mean merely barring an illegal from citizenship, while allowing him to live legally in the U.S. for the rest of his life..
Now, point Number 2 in Beck’s informal understanding with Huckabee (again see the previous post) seems to cover that problem, by saying, “They will not get any legal status while here that allows them to remain long-term.” Yes, this is good. But why isn’t this key provision in the Pledge itself? Why is it only in an informal agreement, made with a handshake?
How easy would it be for Huckabee as President to legalize illegals, while claiming that this is not amnesty, since he is not giving them a “special path” to citizenship.
This is deeply disappointing. If Huckabee were serious about opposing the legalization of illegal aliens, he would have said so in the Pledge that he signed on television.
Re: Huckabee “NO AMNESTY PLEDGE”
You go, Huck!! Now you are talking my language. I agree that the only way immigrants should get into America is legally. Immigration and Homeland Security (which includes border security) are absolute deal-breakers for me. I will not vote for any candidate, REPEAT — ANY CANDIDATE — who does not pledge to reward legal behavior while admonishing and removing those who have wilfully disregarded our laws. The law abiding people who are waiting on their paperwork to enter lawfully are being trampled by a herd of bullies pushing them out of the way to sneak in. Your proposal that illegal aliens be given 120-days to submit their paperwork and go to the end of the lawful line is a fair one. The message should be that anyone in the united states illegally (or hiding in the shadows like any fugitive from justice) better high-tail it back where they came from before they are caught. Anyone caught here illegally after that 120-days should face an extremely severe penalty, such as a 5-year disqualification for the first offense and lifetime disqualification after that.
Too many people think it’s okay to ignore the laws they don’t want to obey as long as they don’t get caught. We are AMERICA and we live by rules of a civilized society. Someone asking for permission to join us as an american should do so honestly and with reverence to our laws — or be denied the privilege to come here.
Huckabee’s Liabilities
Politico.com ( http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1107/7000.html ) and others have reported that Mike Huckabee has had 14 ethics complaints filed against him, yielding 5 admonitions and $1,000 in fines from the Arkansas Ethics Commission. Instead of cooperating with the Arkansas Ethics Commission, Huckabee twice filed lawsuits to shut it down.
On a number of occasions, Huckabee failed to report cash payments he made to himself. For example, according to The Associated Press ( http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15853756/ ), Huckabee received, but failed to report, “$43,150 from his 1994 lieutenant governor’s campaign for use of his personal airplane, $14,000 Janet Huckabee received from his 1992 U.S. Senate campaign, and $23,500 from a tax-exempt organization he incorporated with others in 1994, but whose funding source isn’t known…”
According to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, Huckabee “depleted the governor’s office emergency fund in the final weeks of his administration in part to pay for the destruction of computer hard drives in his office.”
According to a recent article in National Review ( http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=ZGMxOGI1ZjIwYzgwNDRiNzEzYzI1NmI5NjFiZGM4MjE= ), Huckabee had a penchant for accepting gifts while serving in public office. “A $200 stadium blanket, $250 in dental care, a $600 chainsaw, and a $3,700 pair of cowboy boots were among 300 gratuities Huckabee accepted totaling $130,000. Like the Clintons loading their moving van with White House antiques, Huckabee tried to claim for himself some $70,000 in furniture donated to the governor’s mansion.”
Federal Level:
2006: Supported President Bush’s immigration plan and claimed that opposition to Bush’s proposal was driven by “racism or nativism” and that it wasn’t amnesty. (Ralph Hallow, “Huckabee ‘Serious’ About Presidency,” Washington Times, 5/17/06)
Wrote in his 2007 book that implementing strict enforcement of immigration laws “would be sheer folly” and that it made sense to give “those here illegally a process through which they pay a reasonable fine in admission of their guilt for the past infraction of violating our border laws and agree to adhere to a pathway toward legal status and citizenship.” (Mike Huckabee, From Hope to Higher Ground, 2007, p. 117-11
Huckabee has released a 9-point immigration plan as a cornerstone of his 2008 presidential campaign. It is disingenuous at best, deceitful at worst. His plan repeal the current law of multi-year baring of illegals to re-enter the U.S. for illegals who register during a 120-day period with Homeland Security and temporarily exit the country (for only a few days, at most). It is also highly likely that many would not even leave the country but would be allowed to go to their nearest consulate on American soil for paperwork.
They would face no penalty if they apply to immigrate back to U.S. (they’d be back in within just days). He would not utilize the current processing and vetting of immigrant applications (too slow for him and their illegal employers) but would set up special processing for these ‘special case formerly illegal’ immigrants. He also would reward these lawbreakers (and their law-breaking employers) by legalizing the former illegal and then returning them quickly which would allow the aliens to keep the very jobs they broke into the country and took. The employer of the illegal alien would be without his worker for only a few days at most and upon their return would have the extra bonus of a newly minted legal employee. This whole process is known as Huckabee’s “touchback” provision, though Huckabee dodges the question if asked directly, which almost no one in the media has done. http://www.alipac.us/article-2786-thread-1-0.html
Additionally, 84 leaders of the Immigration Enforcement Movement have denounced Huckabee’s immigration plan as deceptive and a ploy to provide illegal aliens with amnesty. http://www.alipac.us/ftopict-94112.html
Don’t be fooled by Huckabee’s recent signing of NumbersUSA No Amnesty pledge. He signed this just a couple of days before the South Carolina primary, which polls indicate he is seriously challenged by John McCain. He signed it not because he is committed to immigration enforcement by not providing amnesty, he signed it to gather votes. Past actions speak louder than election-year words and Huckabee’s past record is abysmal regarding illegal immigration.
Huckabee has the backing of the CFR (Council on Foreign Relations) which is a globalist, open borders, international world government organization headquarted in New York. The CFR’s increased focus on Huckabee began with a speech on foreign policy posted September 28 on the Council on Foreign Relations website: http://www.cfr.org/publication/14335/mike_huckabees_speech_on_foreign_policy.html
The Sept. 28 speech, delivered at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, D.C., focused entirely on foreign policy, portraying Huckabee as a supporter of Bush administration policy in Iraq and for the golbalist agenda. Curiously, the sudden rise in Huckabee’s surge in the polls coincided with the CFR’s backing.
Huckabee has told the Christian Broadcasting Network he had a theology degree, he told voters in Iowa he had a theology degree, he repeated the claim in November’s CNN YouTube debate … but, his campaign now says, it was not true.

In Arkansas:
As Governor, Huckabee fought for in-state tuition and taxpayer funded scholarships for illegal immigrants. He championed an effort in Arkansas to give in-state tuition at state colleges and taxpayer-funded scholarships to illegal immigrants, similar to the DREAM Act proposal at the federal level. (Laura Kellams, “Senators research U.S. law on aliens,” Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, 1/27/05)

During the 2001 regular session of the Arkansas Legislature, Mike Huckabee supported giving driver’s licenses to illegal aliens. Huckabee’s spokesman during the entire process was Robert Trevino, Arkansas liaison to the Department of Human Services. At the same time that he held this state position, Trevino was also the director of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC). This group is a large, well funded advocacy group, of which part of their platform is advocacy for illegal aliens and reduced immigration enforcement and border controls. They explicitly campaign for amnesty and oppose any efforts of immigration control in order to maximize Latino voting power. In June 2005, Huckabee was the keynote speaker at the national LULAC convention in Little Rock and in his speech advocated for open borders and amnesty. He also called immigration enforcement efforts within the U.S. as “un-Christian, un-American, irresponsible and anti-life.”
