A powerful moment on the Giuliani campaign trail

Jacksonville, FL — It is a rare event on the trail when the candidate, voters, media and campaign staff all fall silent and listen. We experienced such a moment Tuesday when Rudy Giuliani paused a campaign speech today and invited the parents of three local soldiers killed in Iraq to share memories about their children.

At the start of his address on military issues at a war memorial in Jacksonville, Giuliani asked Caroline Woods, Dave and Monica Seamans, and Joanne Goucher (in order of appearance) up to the stage to address the crowd of about 300.

–Woods lost her son Julian in Falluja in November 2004.
–The Seamans lost their son Timothy in Samarra in August 2005.
–Goucher lost her son William in January 2007.

The unscripted moment completely overshadowed and overpowered the mayor’s planned speech, but that was ok.

**Note that Woods was interrupted (audio can be heard off-camera) by a pro-life protester yelling “baby killer,” who has been hounding Giuliani on the trail for weeks. Woods had trouble hearing protester, but remained strong in spite of the interruption and actually used it to reinforce her argument. I will let the video speak for itself.

Get real. Rudy was being dissed by the pro-lifer, not Woods.

Quit trying to resurrect Rudy’s dying campaign with stupid spin like this.

The loss is greater because these young men died as a result of deceit, lies and greed by two men who both dodged the vietman war. Our troops will come home when a plan for distributing oil profits is made by the Iraq government so their constituents can have the right to develop its oil reserves. Will they move to the nation named Terror? Will they be ordered to occupy another oil rich third world nation to get more oil reserves to use to make sure global warming continues?

I think Al Queda being rejected by the Muslim population in Iraq is better than killing Bin Laden off, which would just resurrect his “hero” status among terrorists. Our troops are doing a great job, thank you!

Who on God’s green earth would vote for a OPEN BORDERS GLOBALISTA?

When you look into the future of American what do you see. Do you really see a border fence that streches across the Mexico U.S. border? Do you really see Roe vs Wade overturned? Does christianity get state sponsorship and folks run around chastizing people for not attending their community church. Will we make it illegal for gays to live with eachother, or face prison time for doing so. Are we going stop funding research in earth science because their findings reject that the earth is 6000 years old. Will evolution cease to be taught in public classrooms in place of Christianity. This is what Huckabee would love to see, most social conservatives would love to strip us of our freedoms in order to make way for their narrow minded police state. Rudy stands in contrast to this, he was elected in New York City, and unlike Romney, didnt change his views once he ran for president. He stood by the president in the War on Terror. He spoke at the Republican Convention last election in support of our president, along with John McCain, and Senator Liberman. He may be pro-choice, but he understands that abortion statistics is a representation of a societies health. So, he sought to lower abortion numbers in New York by making adoption agencies more visible and accessable. He lowered crime in a city that was notorious for it. He is the only candidate that is sensible, honest, that does what he says. All the other candidates make you feel good by lying and cheating. Rudy made a mistake in not participating in the Iowa and New Hampshire primaries. I hope that it pays off, Rudy is probably the most electable in a general election. Voters tend to favor candidates with executive experience in a general election. McCain is a out of touch Washington Insider. Look at his legislation. The McCain Finance Reform, that has allowed politicians to stay in office longer, harder for underdogs to beat. He is also a sore looser as we saw in the 2000 elections. He is not electable. He is a social conservative, which limits our personal freedoms, and he is a fiscal liberal, which limits our freedoms to make way for McCains Beauracracy. Romney is a liar, he has no personal character, he is a hollow shell that just wants to be president because of no other reason than to say he has done it. Huckabee isn’t much more conservative than McCain, both their records show they are social conservatives, and liberal on everything else. Ron Paul wants to overthrow the government, I cant say its a bad idea, but certainly not the best. Hillary will win the nomination, unless republicans luck out and Obama wins. In fact I think that is our best hope. A republican will not be winning this year. The only one who stands a chance is Rudy. However, you religious right has such a strong hold in the republican party that electability is of no concern to them. They need to be kicked out of the republican party, there population control tactics are more in line with democrats.

To Bob Skilnik; Bob, you get real. The heckler was saying that the Iraqis were justified in Killing her son because the US soldiers in Iraq were killing innocent children and babies. What paper do you read, the Iranian daily news?

To Kyle; I am a Giuliani supporter and a Christian. It is you that sounds like an intolerant, narrow minded bigot.

Yet another tough-talking draft-dodger and opportunist rises to prominence in the Republican Party.

This is one of the most shameless and ironic uses of veterans by a draft-dodger since the days of Bill Clinton.

If Rudy’s campaign is dying than why are you wasting your time on here trying to sell us your Dem views? I think it is so telling of the Dems that they and their supporters insist on saying that it was deceit that got us into Iraq when their precious Dems voted on it too. The only difference now is the Repubs are willing to go the distance and the Dems are ready to cut and run — been ready for a long time too. If it wasn’t for Reagan’s Peace Through Strength initiative, we wouldn’t even have had enough resources to respond to any threat. Now that there is success over there, they don’t even mention it. That is so sad that an American would rather not say anything than to admit our brave troops are making progress. I just read a news article calling Rudy’s supporters either former New Yorkers, Red-necks, or retirees. Well, I guess they missed all of my family and family friends at one of Rudy’s campaign stops. We are neither retired, red neck, or former New Yorkers. So, I guess that makes whoever said that blind and naive as long as we are calling names.

I think you are shameful stating that Giuliani used those families. That is directly taking something away from them. They volunteered to stand up and say what they did because they believed in what they were saying. If it had been rote, it wouldn’t have been so powerful. Truth irritates dems, doesn’t it. When something is on video and can be proved, it makes them angry and nervous. They like the New York Times and CNN to slant reports and the polls to decide. When something real happens they grab for whatever they can.

Rudy Giuliani at Jacksonville Veteran Memorial

Giuliani has been spending a lot of time in Florida, and he\’s made more than a few trips to Jacksonville

Yes, Rudy has ended up behind Ron Paul in 2 primaries. To gain their supporters, he’s going to start admitting that he planned 9/11.

Loved the video, and the feeling of the moment. I’m a Georgia mother who is proud beyond words of these three gentlemen who were tragic losses in the war on terror, and my heart grieves with the parents who shared their pain. What a beautiful way to honor the memory of their sons, by declaring their pride in their sons and their sons’ pride in serving our country. These and all of the lost warriors serving our country are true heroes.

Since it was by the shed blood of so many that we have the freedoms we cherish, those childish, hate-filled hecklers have the right to free speech. But it shames me to the very depths of my soul to think THOSE PEOPLE probably claim to be christians and spew such indecency. Mrs. Woods, I’m certain your Julian is very proud of you at this time for defending his honor and the respect and dignity of this nation. The love you instilled in Julian was the same love he showed when he sacrificed himself to bring freedom and peace to other areas of the world, and those things he did in service to our own country. You are one fine lady, and I will keep you in my prayers.

When I make my choice for president, though at the moment I don’t know who will receive my vote, it will surely be after reflection and soul searching on this and all of the other issues. God bless America and God bless all who serve proudly.
