McCain: Managing Expectations in Michigan
On primary day in Michigan John McCain seems to be managing expectations about a win. Polls show him running neck and neck with rival Republican Mitt Romney.
Senior advisor Steve Schmidt says a loss for McCain would just be a “quarter-step” back for the Senator, and wouldn’t have much of an impact on his chances in downstate races like South Carolina. However, Schmidt thinks Michigan is a must-win for Romney.
McCain told reporters in Traverse City this morning that he’d like another victory, but he knows the race will be tight.
McCain is reaching out to Democrats and Independents, and held an afternoon Town Hall with his longtime friend Joe Lieberman, the Senator who happens to call himself an Independent Democrat.

I wish McCain would run in the Democrat Primary and quit messing up the GOP Primary! The sad fact is that Independents and Democrats are choosing our GOP candidiate–It’s NOT FAIR to the Republicans!!
Mary C.
How can Michigan even consider McCain. Your economy is suffering hard and only one Republican is talking about the real reasons why the Federal Reserve and it is Ron Paul that sees this as THE threat to American prosperity. I want to explain inflation and the root cause and maybe then this will convince you to weight the Fed as the MOST important issue we American’s face.
Inflation comes from an uneven change in the volume of money, say, when it is printed and given to a defense contractor. For the moment the contractor’s suppliers do not realize the money volume has changed, the recipient of the printed money experiences increased purchasing power. The workers end up receiving the wage in old money, but then are faced with prices in the new money after the vendors adjust to the new money supply. If the Fed injects more money into the system, which causes more spending, then you will have more money chasing the same number of goods which causes inflation!
Dr. Paul, much like Jefferson and Jackson, believe: The central bank is not only unconstitutional, but causes inflation from printing money with no backing. This causes the citizens to issue T-bills to support the created money and it is our children that pay for the treasury bills we issue to prop up the markets. Any money it releases to “curb market jitters over sub-prime woes” is a tax on unborn children who will be paying the interest on the debt we have accrued.
Oh and by the way, the whole principle and function of money has switched. Back in the day it was free for citizens to turn their gold and silver into money, which increased the money supply as a wealth to the people. Now green backs created out of thin air are loaned into circulation as debt against future production, not exchanged into circulation as production performed. Money has been switched from an evidence of wealth to an evidence of debt.
A legalized competing currency such as gold would be a great way to phase out the Fed’s monopoly money. I want to be perfectly clear on one of the implications. Wars will not be fought unless the majority of the American PEOPLE want to fight the war.
This is why I support Ron Paul for president.
I agree with you Mary. I really hope Republicans come out for Romney to show that they are doing the true selecting with their numbers instead of the independents. I think those that vote for McCain while he’s campaigning next to Lieberman, who is only and independent and not a member of the donkeys because he couldn’t win re-election on that platform, needs to seriously question whether they are conservatives.
Michigan will make a very important decision Tuesday, which is what it wanted when it moved its primary up.
Well, I am voting for America this time, and not for anyone else.
The surge is working. McCain called it, but so did others (Keating, etc). Petraeus is in there. I’m not worried at this point, it’s obvious Iraqis want peace and are weary. So why should my voted be Iraq-oriented?
That’s what I am doing when I vote for McCain. What else does the man bring to the table besides a strong war stance…when it’s not needed. I’m voting for American focus this election, not Iraqi.
McCain wants to give illegals amnesty. My fellow Americans deserve and need those jobs more than my neighbors do. I am not voting for the illegals’ benefit, and that’s what you’re doing when you vote McCain.
His “straight talk” is nothing more than the McCain status quo: compromise. He compromised on illegals, Feingold, Bush tax cuts.
Romney is the President America so badly needs. He embraces Petraeus. He is an innovative turn-around master, and that’s what this country needs and what his message of change means. he is pro-life; He showed us his managerial mastery with the Olympics; his business savvy at Bain; and innovation in public administration with implementation of his successful healthcare coverage plan in Massachusetts. WE CANNOT WIN ANY WAR OR STAY AHEAD OF CHINA WITHOUT A STRONG AND VIBRANT ECONOMY.
Above everything else, that’s what we need…a President that will focus and develop this country, for the lives of Americans, not our neighbors’, and not Iraqis.
VOTE ROMNEY ON TUESDAY, AND SHOW AMERICA MICHIGAN CAN PICK ‘EM BETTER THAN IOWA OR NEW HAMPSHIRE!!!
John McCain is the most electable of the GOP candidates, as well as the one most capable of defeating ANY Democratic competitor in the general election. His experience, coupled with his widespread appeal across party platforms, makes him the only choice for America in November.
MICHIGAN ROMNEY BACKER SWITCHES TO HUCKABEE

As most polls of likely primary voters in Michigan now show a near-tie between Republicans Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, and John McCain, the Romney camp got a jolt Saturday as a key backer announced he was switching his support to Huckabee.
With three days to go before the primary, State Rep. Fulton J. Sheen of Allegan County, introduced Huckabee at the Amway Grand Hotel and announced he was changing to the former Arkansas governor from native Michigander Romney. In an exclusive interview the evening before his announcement, stalwart conservative Sheen — namesake-nephew of the legendary Roman Catholic bishop in the 1940’s and 50’s — said that Romney’s attacks on Huckabee’s Fair Tax proposal convinced him to switch to the Arkansas man.

I am jumping up and down!!!!!!!!! Huckabee all the way!!!!!!!!!!
Why is it when Romney states his opponents record and/or promises it is called “attacking” or “going negative”? However, when his opponents do the same thing it is just referred to bringing out the differences. VOTE ROMNEY!!
McCain HAS NO RECORD OF SUCCESS.
Can anyone show a list of John McCain’s accomplishment in congress over the last 25 long years? If you dig into it, you will find he has only involved himself in a whole bunch of controversial issues with no significant results.
Troop surge was proposed by the military leaders, not from a senator. He only supported it. As far as improving the economy goes, you can say he hasn’t done much. His military service can hardly translate to real life management success, simply because you basically have to follow order in the military and “Yes, Sir!” is your only acceptable reply to your senior.
McCain at 71 years old, is a very decent and honorable man, no question about it. But what is questionable is his ability to lead, manage the federal government and the biggest economy of the world. He has ridden his Vietnam war hero status for a long time as a CAREER POLITICIAN. I have no confidence in him defeating the Democratic nominee, let along being the next president.
Huckabee is NOT TRUST WORTHY.
A little research review a lot. Huckabee had 14 ethnical violations brought against him relating to finances as governor. Shortly before announcing his candidacy for the President of the United States, Huckabee ordered 83 computer hard drives and 4 servers be destroyed during his transition phase in leaving office.
He raised taxes 21 times and granted clemency to 1033 convicted felons, 12 murderers and rapists. Try to improve his tough on crime image with Chuck Norris. (Give me a break! If they were selling weight lose machine it would be more convincing!)
Huckabee wants to do away the IRS and have a fair tax with everyone pay a 23% sales tax on everything you buy. Just exactly how well educated is this man? Then you find out he only has a 2 1/2 years religion degree and worked as a minister selling religion for a living with people’s donation for 12 years. The only strength I see he has is SWEET TALKING ability in front of the camera. Huckabee is NOT QUALIFIED.
McCain is the best choice.
With McCain you know where you stand.
Romney will say anything to get a vote. That’s why he is pandering to the automotive industry.
McCain was honest with the folks in Michigan, when he could have lied like Romney just to gather a few more votes.
Romney has a long record of flip-flopping on issues. First he was pro-choice, now he is pro-life. He used to support gays, now he doesn’t. If you just want to hear nice platitudes from someone who will say anything for a vote, vote for Romney.
I’m voting for McCain.
We don’t want a liar in the White House. We want a leader with principals.
Tell Romney to pack-up his magical underwear and go home.
Mc Cain would be the worst choise for America. We need less government, less taxation, less bureaucracy, and a way to end the Iraq War. Probably Ron Paul is the alone GOP candidate who has a clear Jeffersonian vision and who cares really the interests of the country.
McCain has the usual tricky way of saying his ads are not negative while crying poor me the victim to ads that include any of his liberal voting record, especially concerning illegal immigration. Wake up McCain, you can’t be on both sides of the fence! We’re smarter than you think!
