Hillary Wins Uncontested Michigan Primary

No surprise here; Sen Clinton was the only top-tier Democrat on the ballot in Michigan today, and should end up with about 60% of the vote. “Uncommitted” is currently sitting at about 35% — driven up, says the Clinton campaign, due to a radio campaign by Obama backers to get supporters to go to the polls, even though he’s not officially running there.

Why go to any effort to get more “uncommitted” votes? With Clinton nearly guaranteed to win the state, the best her opponents could hope for was an embarrassingly small margin of victory that the press might see as a defeat. Either way, the Obama campaign says MI doesn’t matter — and accused her of ignoring the spirit, if not the letter, of a campaign pledge not to compete in states like Michigan and Florida that moved their primaries into January.

The Clinton campaign shot back that Obama shouldn’t be belittling the voices of voters in Michigan and Florida. Check out the full Clinton campaign response after the jump.

RE: Michigan and Florida Presidential Primaries

The Obama campaign today circulated a memo regarding today’s Michigan primary and the January 29 Florida primary. This memo was concerning on several levels.

Let us be very clear. Senator Clinton signed a pledge that she would not campaign in any state that violates the DNC approved calendar. Therefore, we did not campaign in Michigan, nor will we campaign in Florida in violation of the pledge. We have two small scheduled fundraisers in South Florida on January 27, as explicitly permitted by the pledge, but we will not hold any open public campaign events. The Obama campaign has also held numerous fundraisers in Florida since signing the pledge. Contrary to the Obama campaign’s memo, there are no events at large venues, nor have we organized in the state. We intend to do so as our party’s nominee in the general election, but will honor our pledge not to campaign there in violation of the pledge.

Let us be clear about something else, however. While Senator Clinton will honor her commitment not to campaign in Florida in violation of the pledge, she also intends to honor her pledge to hear the voices of all Americans. The people of Michigan and Florida have just as much of a right to have their voices heard as anyone else. It is disappointing to hear a major Democratic presidential candidate tell the voters of ANY state that their voices aren’t important.

Make no mistake — the Obama campaign had no problems when its supporters and allies in Michigan ran radio ads and other campaign activities urging people to vote for “uncommitted” as a way to register their support for Senator Obama — and to give him a chance to compete for those delegates at the national convention (http://facts.hillaryhub.com/archive/?id=5218). Now, with polls in recent days showing that effort and their candidate running far behind in both states, the Obama campaign has shifted tactics to say that those who cast a vote in either state don’t matter. We couldn’t disagree more.

Senator Clinton intends to be President for all fifty states. And while she will honor the pledge she signed and not campaign in either state, she intends to continue to give every American a voice during this election and when she gets to the White House.

Hillary is dishonest & takes a vote anywhere & anyhow she can get it. She lies & cheats even when it comes to her fellow democrats.

Did you notice when the debate aired that the free trade agreement, which was signed when Mr Clinton was in office, wasn’t mentioned when talking about our failing economy. She has experience all right & the USA is still trying to get past the last time the Clinton’s were in office….yep they sure made a better world for us didn’t they.
It’s beyond me how they can show their faces…Is Bill suppose to boost her ratings…he was impeached & if it wasn’t for the senate he would have been ousted. You couldn’t even listen to the news when you had your children st the table because of the scandel.

IT DOESN’T SAY MUCH FOR THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY CONTINUING TO SUPPORT THE CLINTON’S IN ANYTHING. MAYBE THE CLINTON’S SHOULD GO RUN FOR OFFICE IN CHINA THAT’S WHERE THEY HAVE SENT ALL OF OUR JOBS~~!!!!!!!!!

A vote for Hillary is a vote for national health care which is a vote to increase our taxes to more than 50%. Why do I need an ounce of prevention when Hillary can buy me a pound of cure? This in a country that already has the highest number of self-inflicted lifestyle related ailments in the world. If you have our tax dollars burning a hole in your pocket, spend it on a health solution, not on health care. Better yet, fund it with a glutton tax on junk food… that will encourage the right behavior at the same time.

Comment by Joe

Every country that has implemented national health care has an average tax rate of 50%, essentially doubling our tax rates. Canada & Australia are cases in point. Do you reallly want to pay twice as much tax?

Comment by Joe

Do you really trust the federal government to run an institution like national health care? How many federal institutions can you name that are well run and efficient? What makes anyone think this will be any different?

Hillary is not dishonest. I can’t believe someone would say that. Mrs. Clinton has worked hard for her nation. In no way do I find her to be dishonest. It would be a major mistake if America votes for anyone else besides her. We will end up with another George W. Bush if we are not careful!

Under Bill Clinton the economy went through the largest expansion in decades. This is fact. More people had jobs and money in years. The dollar was up, we had great foreign relations, and we were having glory days. Yes, the economy was shifting down as he left office. The economy goes through times of flux. Think of the economy as waves, their are peaks and valleys, but over all it stays steady unless their is a change in the weather.

When Bush came into office he killed a lot of what made our economy strong. We have spent billions on a war to remove WMD’s from Iraq, and then we found out that they did not have WMD’s, and we found out that their was knowledge that they did not have access or ability to create them. He cut taxes to the people that could afford it. The top 2% received a tax cut while middle and lower class did not. He said that this was to make the economy strong, but let me ask you something. If someone with Millions of dollars get thousands more back from taxes, are they going to spend it? No, they can already afford anything that they want. Now if you recieve an extra $500 back, what are you going to do with it? Are you going to put it in the bank and forget about it, because I would go out and spend it on something that I need putting that money back into the economy. What Bush is doing is Voodoo economics. When Clinton was in office he gave taxs breads to the lower and middle class, which is part of the reason for the stronger economy.

On the topic of Federal Health Care, yes your taxes will go up. It is going to happen. That is how it is going to be paid for. The difference is that what you pay out of pocket to insurance companies is about the same as what you are going to pay in taxes, if not less. You are not losing money, it is just going some place different. Then with companies not having to shoulder the burden of employee health insurance, they will have more money in increase business, create more jobs, and pay higher salaries. Then with the fact that the federal government will run the health care system, if their is fraud, it becomes a federal crime, meaning that people who rape the system, causing us higher insurance payments, will be less likely to do so. So what I am saying is that we pay the same amount, and everyone gets insured, including children and the elderly who do not work. I am sorry but I don’t see a down side. Oh, and Canada’s health services are top notch.

Now I may sound like I am towing the Clinton band wagon, but I am not. Personally I don’t care for her views on censorship. She wants to censor video games and movies. Personally I am against this on the basis of free speech. If parents don’t want their children playing violent games, then be a parent. I am tired of people trying to make the government raise their children. People also seem to think that if Hilary gets into office that we get Bill again. This is also not true. I realize that they are different people, and I know that what happened under Bill is not going to happen under Hilary. The last reason that I am not on the Hilary band wagon is the fact that if you listen to her speeches, she states a lot of “Me’s” and “I’s”. Listen to the New Hampshire speech and you will see what I am talking about. Every other candidate talks about the people and the team. She thinks that her glory is all her own. This is not so.

If you want to know who I am voting for, well it is Dennis Kucinich. I think that he is the only guy stating his opinions clearly, and the only guy that will not Kowtow to the lobbyists. He will do what he thinks is needed. He did so on Ohio, and yeah they voted him out. Then they noticed that what he did worked, and they voted him back in. Ohio said, “You were right and we want you back.” I don’t think their is any great endorsement than that. Do me a favor and read his bio on Wikipedia. You will learn something.

Joe, you have obviously never lived in Australia. I have for 17 years and contrary to your statement that “national health care has an average tax rate of 50%, essentially doubling our tax rates” (sic) Australian income tax has decreased due to the introduction of a goods and services tax.
After 11 years of conservative government the health care system of Australia has been gutted, the rich pay less tax than ever before, the cost of food and housing has skyrocketed and Australia’s green house gas production has increased because the government refused to sign the Kyoto Protocol.
I’m pleased to say that the conservative government has just been thrown out on his ear. Hopefully the US will also experience a regime change next year and republican scare mongers like you will be shown to be wrong again.
