Giuliani closely watching Michigan results
Sarasota, FL — Will a Mitt Romney or John McCain victory in Tuesday’s Michigan primary better help his nomination chances? Apparently, the Giuliani camp is still unsure.
In a rare appearance on the media bus Monday, Giuliani discussed the state of the race, his strategy and sports with the traveling press corps. (The campaign did not allow the discussion to be videotaped.)
The Michigan primary is viewed as Romney’s final chance to win and show his viability and an opportunity for McCain to claim the GOP frontrunner mantle. Giuliani, who is focusing all of his resources in Florida and pulled paid staff from Michigan in recent weeks, admitted his campaign is still assessing how they can best take advantage of the result.
“There is even a debate within my camp about what the right strategic result will be for me,” Giuliani said. “I can’t control it, so I am not gonna have an opinion about it. We are just going to react to whichever way it comes down.”
Giuliani’s strategy is largely based on a chaotic GOP field with multiple winners in the various early primaries. A few senior aides admit privately that a McCain victory in Michigan would help boost the Arizona Senator’s current momentum and make him a challenging adversary going into the Jan. 29 Florida primary.
Giuliani also commented on the dispute over race amongst the Democratic contenders, adding that he believes the country is “substantially beyond” race as a political issue.
“I don’t think this is going to be an election about race, gender or religion. Ultimately it’s gonna be about who ends up best message for American people,” he said.

Romney ‘08 all the way baby!!!!! Romney is the best thing this country has had going for it in a long time. This man is a genius and an expert innovator. He will keep this country competitive and as a world leader. No other candidate can do that for America. We need a candidate with brains, Values, and expertise. Proven experience is a plus also. Romney wins in all of these areas.
Mitt’s reign was a parade of economic stagnation and retreat. He even advocated an SUV-tax increase that would have hammered the very same domestic automotive industry he now says he champions. [...]
“Our analysis reveals a weak comparative economic performance of the state over the Romney years, one of the worst in the country,” the researchers wrote in the Boston Globe. Specifically, they found:

As a Michigan resident, I was disgusted by Romney’s most recent ad. He stated that “marriage must come first, every child must have a mother and a father.” Since when is it ANY of the governments business?? How people live their lives and raise their children is up to them. Is it heartbreaking to see children without fathers? Of course. Do we need the government telling us what to do in our personal (and romantic) lives? NO.
And then there’s that other candidate whose strategy is largely based on a chaotic GOP field with multiple winners in the various early primaries… who preaches fiscal conservatism with the record to back it up… who has firsthand experience with the US healthcare system… who has firsthand experience in the US Air Force… who thinks securing our borders and bringing the perpetrators of 9-11 to justice should be the first steps to take in the war on terror… 10 term Congressman Ron Paul.
I love how people try to grasp at straws in trying to make Romney out to be a bad candidate. The facts stand that he has been a large success at creating jobs and knows how the economy works. He turned around the Massachusetts budget (without raising taxes) and saved the scandal plagued Olympics. Plus he served in office without pay. That’s right, Romney donated all of his pay as Massachusetts governor to charity and he has promised to do the same as president.
My vote in ‘08 will go to Mitt Romney.
I’m watching the results too, you should do a story about me, since me and Rudolf have about the same chances of being elected at this point.
Hopefully Romney wins and Giuliani wins Florida… then the race will come down to money and support at the convention… and you know who will be there till the end… Ron Paul supporters are the most dedicated in this cycle.
I live in MI. I also vote. This time I voted for Ron Paul. The sad fact is this country is poorly versed on the facts that underlie policy and political cause and effect. If you educate yourself, and you’re logical, it is difficult to dispute much of what Ron Paul argues for.
The additional sad fact is that we are a nation that suffers massive attention deficit disorder, and the media plays on this fact all day. Fox News is no exception, except it goes one step further and adds propaganda — which is the worst sort of evil in politics outside of a tyranny. Let’s consider a prime example. This is only one of many. Were you aware that Fox News plants “actors” that portray themselves as “undecided” - and then interviews them at the end of a primary? Take a look: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFL-LubDF9c
This coupled with the fact that Fox News barred Ron Paul from the debate and New Hampshire even though he had more votes than Giuliani and Thompson in Iowa is despicable.
Search Frank Luntz on You Tube, and you’ll see a lot more disturbing examples.
How should one interpret this? The only conclusion I can make (since Murdoch has made no public commentary) is that they don’t want you to hear Ron Paul’s message. I wouldn’t be all that surprised if this comment gets censored.
Giuliani is a horrible candidate. He runs a campaign of fear-mongering, and very little of what he has to say has any substance or relevance. Chalk this up with the fact that several of the people he has worked with in the past have nothing but bad things to say about him (NYFD, NYPD for example). He wouldn’t even be a viable contendor in the primaries at all (he’s really not) if it weren’t for his celebrity status — which again illustrates our media-driven culture. His record in NY is really not something to be all that proud of. If you’d like examples, try reading factcheck.org
Considering Mitt Romney — he’s also got a lot of skeletons in his closet. I could enumerate them all here, but if you want a less biased opinion, I’d suggest you educate yourself by reading and monitoring factcheck.org.

I’m from Michigan and just voted. I wanted to vote for the most Conservitive canidate, Fred Thompson, but he has not taken Michigan seriously and will not compete. I voted against Mclame and voted for Mitt Romney. We have to stop McLame the pro amnesty canidate. You might as well vote for the liberal democrats if your going to vote for McLame.
Mclame….thats funy…I agree….he is a wolf in sheeps clothing…I think he is a closet liberal…..as for Guliani….he ony knows one sentence…” did you see me in 911″….he used that whole platform to launch his canadacy….very very lame…..Romeny ok ….a tad two perfect for me….I cant picture my self sitting on my tailgate…having a beer with him…..I like Huckabee….normal guy ,down to earth, no skeletons…….and a christian….not that church and state should be mixed…but its nice to know he personally looks to god for guidance and decency
Huckabee is my man!!!!
I have loads of relatives in beautiful Western MI and every one of them voted for Ron Paul. Romney and McCain both have quite liberal records (as does Giuliani). Conservatives need to remember that war is just another big government program, and we’ve got too many of those already. Government can’t fix social ills and the Fed’s manipulation of the money supply doesn’t seem to be fixing the economy. At least Ron Paul has the money to stay in the race until the end. Maybe some of his principles will rub off on some of the other guys. Maybe that’s just a pipe dream. Either way, seeing all these votes going to folks like McCain and Romney looks like a death sentence for a conservative America with respect for constitutional rule of law and our heritage of liberty. We may still be the greatest nation on earth, but the Revolutionary War was fought over a lot less tyranny than what has crept up on us over the past 100 years. I guess if things are done slowly enough, people tend not to notice.
If you support anybody other than Ron Paul, chances are that you, reading this right now, with your current political views would have been a loyalist tolerating the injustices imposed on Americans, had you lived during the Revolution. Go figure.
Liberty or death.
What the hell does sitting on a tailgate and having a bear have ANYTHING to do with a president? That should be the FURTHEST THING from your mind. How about we elect a LEADER who doesn’t pay lip service to us and promise us things with our money and our grandchildren’s money?
Try electing Ron Paul. He has ideas to fix the falling value of the dollar. That alone is wiping our savings out and killing the ability to perform. We are told that it will help sell our exports, but competing countries still undercut us and our manufacturing is in China now, along with our debt. Romney is a shill and Thompson is a dolt. Guiliani is unelectable. McCain is bought now. We have but one choice and it should be crystal clear.
We are with Mike Huckabee all the way!
Mike Huckabee has the most experience with running a government, and Mike has the best morales. Time magazine named Governor Huckabee in the 5 best Governors of America. MDH is tough on illegal immigration, strong on pro-choice, and authentic conservative, a fantastic speaker, a gifted thinker, and a very eloquent person.
We like Mike because he has and always will have an un-wavering stand for what he believes in, and because of that we believe in him!
We like Mike!
Poor Guiliani. Always being stalked by those darned Ron Paul supporters!
These cut-and-paste posts for your candidate are so lame. Try posting an original thought for once.
Ron paul is the only candidate who doesnt flip-flop, and he has stuck to what he has said his entire political career. I wish people would just give him a chance and just listen to what the man has to say. He really is the best candidate
Giuliani looks nervous and guilty. Romney looks like a lame soap opera actor. McCain is a psycho who wants a 100 years war. Ron Paul is the only sane choice. Hillary is an operative and Obama was at the AIPAC conference with Hillary…
Ron Paul wants to end all foreign troop commitments and practice isolationism. If you dont think that would have disatrous effects for democracy everywhere then you need to take a good look at what is happening in the Middle East. Look what happened the last time we decided isolationism was a good idea. If we don’t police the world, then World War 3 will break out almost immediatly. Its unfortunate because we shouldnt have to do this, but thats the simple truth. Until Ron Paul realizes that none of his very logical economic decisions will sway my vote.
I’m sure none of you Ron Paul supporters watch Fox news, and I don’t even know why you are here…Why aren’t you out raising money for your blimp?!
Isn’t interesting how Guliani hasn’t done anything, yet Romney, who is ahead in votes and delegates, and who would have won in New Hampshire had it truly been a Republican only primary (not allowing non-republicans to vote), is being written-off by the press. If he doesn’t come in first, again in another state (Michigan) that allows non-republicans to vote in the Republican primary, they will say he is out. So far Mcain has only 10 delgates, Romney has something like 30.
Romney is the total package: economy, immigration, national security (not even a security scare at the Olympics just months after 9/11), values. He is conservative–not liberal or libertarian. Nevada is this Saturday with 38 delegates. He will probably win there. SC has only 30 delegates, yet the press is ignoring Nevada. Obviously, they (the press) doesn’t really want people to know that Romney is truly ahead with conservatives. Yes—I am a Romney supporter!
With another 4th or 5th place finish will Carl Cameron ask Giuliani about his electability?
Hi my name is marko i am Albanian and i ive in Detroid and i believe that the best choice for Michigan would be RUDY GIULIANI because Michigan is today what New York was before Rudy was mayor of NY and he was able to change NY for the best Lower Crime,Taxes and unemployment this is the trouble that Michigan is in now and and Rudy has been throught this and i pretty much garantee you 100% that rudy can bring change THAT IS A POSITIVE CHANGE!!!!
Do your Duty vote for RUDY!!!
McCain: Liberal, flipflopper, went over to the dark side of supporting special interests and big business two years ago, supports illegal alien amnesty, rfid’s, wants us to invade iran, commit war crimes and stay in iraq for 100 years all for irael
Romney: Terrible record on economics, Michigan SHOULD hate him, they’re already in trouble. super flip flopper, we can safely assume that everyone that voted for him got 1,000 bucks each.
Huckabee: doesn’t believe in the constitution, separation of church and state, evolution, or global warming. He’s literally an 18th Century Ottoman.
Giuliani: Thank goodness, this mans campaign is dead, the dark horse, hated by the msm ron paul even beat this guy in almost EVERY single race, debate, poll. he’s done, stick a fork in him, serve him up to some starving kids, it’s over.
Thompson: conservative, smart ass, but i like that, doesn’t know much about foreign policy, very well versed on domestic law and how local governments work, he’s more like a frat boy though, and would rather smirk and shirk rather than offer a proper rebuttal, probably because he’s not smart enough, but he seem slike a cool guy.
Ron Paul: Second coming of christ.
Well, yeah…Romney is loyal to big money, corporations and to the CFR. That’s not what we need here.
McCain is also CFR and is owned by the corporations. Don’t know what CFR is? Look it up, its important!
Do you think that our economy is a problem right now? Do you think that it might be a good idea to bring home our troops soon? At least the border patrol people that we have in Iraq, right? Did you ever wonder why we can’t seem to get the borders under control? The people running our country are making a lot of money with the way things are right now! Meanwhile the rest of us are less and less able to afford to live.
The national deficit is over NINE TRILLION DOLLARS and growing every second. Every year we spend 200-400 billion dollars that we don’t have. We borrow this from China!!! Um, does anyone see a problem here? How long can we just keep racking up these debts on credit? How weak do we want to make the dollar? Do you think that the dollar might collapse at some point? (Hint: yes, it will).
The war in Iraq costs us $275 million a day. How long can we keep this up? It is crazy!
Vote for Ron Paul, the only candidate loyal to the American people and the constitution. He is the only one who understands the financial problems that our country is facing today. Don’t saddle your grandchildren with untenable debt for their entire lives. Vote for Ron Paul–vote for freedom!
