Clinton vs Culinary Workers Union?

Hillary Clinton was back on the campaign trail Thursday, after taking most of the day following her come-from-behind New Hampshire victory to do national TV interviews and plot her strategy for the upcoming races.

With Nevada, South Carolina, and February 5th states like California looming, deciding where her time can be best spent is crucial — and the campaign took its time making that determination. Her national press corps wasn’t advised of Thursday’s campaign location until late Wednesday night.

The first stop turned out to be Las Vegas, NV, where Barack Obama has secured the state’s plum endorsement — the Culinary Workers Union. The union represents 60,000 hotel and casino workers in a state where around 10,000 people caucused in 2004, and its support was hotly pursued by all the major candidates.

But canvassing a lower middle class, mostly Hispanic neighborhood with state representative Ruben Kihuen, Clinton played down the union’s importance, saying she’s committed to reaching out and meeting people one-on-one. “It takes a lot of hard work and it takes a lot of outreach and shoe leather and phone calling, and that’s what we are doing, and we’re prepared to just pull out the stops to be just as successful,” she said.

The one-on-one approach, along with her name recognition, seems to be soothing some of the sting of the culinary endorsement. Several union members in the neighborhood told the NY Senator that they would be supporting her despite their union’s pronouncement, and one man at a local restaurant railed against his union’s decision — saying most of the group is with Hillary.

Nobody knows what will happen here or how important it will be in the nominating process; if turnout is as small as it has been in the past, the results here may be discounted by a skeptical national media. But if not, the race could come down to several competing factors: Obama’s union support vs Hillarys big poll advantage and name recognition; his successful Iowa caucus model of turning out Republicans, Independents, and young people vs her appeal with Hispanic voters; and both of their strong organizations here battling it out.

UNITE HERE rejected Clinton because she never spoke up for unions while on the WALMART Board and her campaign manager Mark Penn was paid big bucks by CINTAS, the big union-busting company.

When is FOX going to report on Bill Clinton;s affairs with Lisa Belzberg and Belinda Stornach in 2002? It was in the NY Post, The Daily News and covered on CNN in that year.

Clinton linked with wealthy socialite

THE tangled love life of Bill Clinton was again under the microscope yesterday when he was romantically linked with a glamorous blonde.

A magazine photo showed the former president of the United States in an intimate pose with the Canadian socialite Lisa Belzberg, 38.

They were photographed by Newsweek in front of a refrigerator at her mansion in Katonah, New York. It rekindled long-standing speculation about the pair, who have been spotted together at a number of functions over the past year.

According to the New York Post, Ms Belzberg, a millionairess separated from her husband, the Seagram alcohol heir Matthew Bronfman, about a month ago following a liaison with Mr Clinton.

“Friends were stunned to see the photo of Clinton in front of Lisa’s stainless steel Sub-Zero refrigerator with Jonathan Alter’s cover story on the ex-president,” the paper reported. The article claimed Mr Clinton and Ms Belzberg were involved in an encounter last month.

“She was seen flirting with Clinton at the Super Bowl party he hosted in his Harlem offices,” it added. At the time Mr Clinton joked of his relationship with Ms Belzberg: “She married a guy worth $6 billion, but she still likes to flirt with me.”

A spokeswoman for Ms Belzberg, who runs the educational organisation PENCIL , insisted that she has not been involved in another relationship since her split from Mr Bronfman. “There is no-one else,” she said bluntly.

According to 6/12/02 Page Six of the New York Post: WHATEVER there was between Lisa Belzberg and Bill Clinton, it appears to be over. Belzberg, the brainy blonde behind the PENCIL nonprofit group that helps the public school system, was rumored to be more than friends with the former president, who lives just 10 minutes away from the mother of two in Westchester. “She’s heartbroken,” said one source. But there is little chance of reconciliation with her husband, Matthew Bronfman. The Seagram heir, who split with Lisa in February, is said to be very happily dating a fashion industry executive, Stacy Kaye.

Inside Politics 6/13/02: “The New York Post reported yesterday that the relationship between former President Bill Clinton and Lisa Belzberg ‘appears to be over.’ If we do the math, that means that Mr. Clinton and the pretty blonde socialite lasted seven weeks. “Tabloid rumors of a romance between the two appeared around April 23, claiming the pair met at a Christmas party last year. Mr. Clinton behaved like ‘a big old hound dog’ and later, trysts reportedly took place in mid-afternoons on the 24th floor of New York’s chichi Hudson Hotel.”

Clinton seen with new blonde

Mark Coleman In New York

BILL Clinton’s chequered love life became the source of fresh speculation yesterday after he was spotted with yet another blonde.

The former US president is reported to have shared an intimate dinner with Belinda Stronach, a married business woman.

According to reports, Mr Clinton, 56, wined and dined Ms Stronach, 35, the head of an international car parts company, in Toronto.

The pair have apparently struck up a cosy friendship and were caught embracing at the end of the evening.

“Clinton gave her a peck on the cheek before she got into her car,” the New York Post reported. Another tabloid, the Daily News, pronounced that the two “had dinner and were seen embracing before they parted”.

The papers said that the couple appeared to be fairly close, exchanging fond glances as they walked around the city.

Mr Clinton, who was in Toronto for a party honouring the musician Ronnie Hawkins, who has been diagnosed with cancer, twitched awkwardly with his mobile phone after realising that he and Ms Stronach, who was wearing a black dress and diamond necklace, were being followed by photographers.

The revelations are bound to renew consternation between Mr Clinton and his wife Hillary, to whom he has been married for 26 years.

Four months ago Mr Clinton was linked with another blonde socialite, Lisa Belzberg, 38, who is also a Canadian.

Glad to hear Obama got this union endorsement.

A) the article was about Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

B) The fact that her husband had, has or will have proper or improper relations with women, farm animals or inanimate objects has never had a thing to do with his performance in office. And certainly has nothing to do with his wife’s campaign for the highest office in the land.

I am a life-long Republican but the entire Lewinsky / impeachment thing was such and unfair attack and a total distraction to the leader of our country that those who engineered it ought to be punished as hard as we should the party leaders who pervert our elected representatives voting. How do you feel about Howard Dean ordering Nancy Pelosi to take a stand on an issue that is important enough to be considered by Congress?

By the way, I am also a union guy (by osmosis) who believes that the Culinary folks should have some sort of voice in helping their members decide. As much as Hillary does in trying to get them decide the other way.

Wow, John H, you certainly are fascinated by other people’s sex lives!

None of the rest of America cares about other people’s sex lives.

John H, why are Republicans so fascinated with other people’s sex lives?
I’m thinking maybe they don’t have one of their own?

Go Hillary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This Hispanic voter supports you!

VIVA HILLARY CLINTON!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Hilary is doing The best she can because she is lmited at what she can tell the public.
People would like to know where the 10,000,000 dollars went from social sec. when Kenndy was Presdent and if it had been payed back into social sec. we wouldn’t be worried about running out of money for the retired people today.

Comment by Viki

What a strange name for the article.
I don’t think that culinary union represents the whole state of Nevada.
Also, as article says, some (may be a lot) of union members support Sen. Hillary Clinton.
Hillary has supporters all over country in every union.

The Clinton aren’t worth the time of day - it’s disgusting. Let’s get beyond and above it.

Lets see we have global warming, 12 million children without health insurance, 47 million adults without health insurance, a prescription drug program that was written by the drug companies, a war in Iraq, one on the way in Afghanistan, a deficit that is totally out of control, and all the morons in the Republican party can think of is getting all sweaty and twitchy by Clinton’s sex life. Poor pathetic little people.

Comment by Margaret

Jan, I think you are totally out of line with your comment about Republicans. One person’s comments do not speak for the entire Republicans group. If people want communist and socialism in this country then vote for Hillary cause that’s what you are going to get. If not then everyone had better look at all candidates and choose the best one not matter what party line they fall into.

Jan, you seem to think it’s all about peoples sex lifes, it’s not, it’s about lieing about it. So tell the truth how many affairs would you let your husband have?

I am sick and tired of hearing people attack Hillary for having been in the public life for so long. What do people expect her to do? Give her a break. People know her because of her work. When woman is running for presidency, all of sudden “experience” of working for change all her life doesn’t seem to count much. I wonder if it would be the same had she been much younger with not much of experience but very good public speaker. No! then people would want experience because then she would be a woman without much experience! Sick of it. Just be fair and ask deep down in your heart who will be bettter president for this country:Obama or Hillary?
Somtimes, I wish Hillary would just withdraw from this race, you know just NOT CARE. Go someplace nice and bathe in the sun and enjoy life. it will be a big loss for the nation but what the heck. Why care? I guess then it would be so easy for everyone.Huh??
Time for Change. Time for Hillary. Go Hillary!

Hillary: Experienced?

Hmm. . . let’s see. She maintains she did not know about the many pardons that took place which catapaulted her into the Senate by bringing in otherwise non-supportive Hispanic and Jewish voters; she claims that she wasn’t involved in Travelgate; she obviously wasn’t a cabinet member; Bill asserts that the failed health care plan was really “his idea,” not hers.

What experience are we really talking about here? It amazes me how incredibly naive supporters of HRC touting the “experience” card are!

Comment by Margaret

Juana, if Hillary wasn’t such a story teller about her accomplishments, maybe people wouldn’t attack her so much. I do wish she would withdraw cause I am sick of seeing her and hearing her stories, and her little crying techniques are totally disgusting.

About being fair, neither Hillary or Obama would make good presidents. Maybe time for change but not your candidates.

This country has been run under two families for the past 16 years. Do we really want another four (possibly eight) with the same people again? I admit Bill did a lot of good things during his time. But, there is a good reason why the law allows only two terms for a particular candidate. You don’t want people taking the position for granted. That is one main reason why leaders in some developing countries end up messing thir countries up. Most of them start off with good intentions and make good decisions. But, 10, 15 years later, they start feeling like it’s their birth right to be there. And you know what, I think we saw a glimpse of that when Bill was talking so angry about Obama in New Hampshire. He looked extremely upset that this guy is actually putting up a good competition. You see, it seems to me that the Clintons were sure that this was going to be a smooth ride. Just the mere fact that they started out thinking that way is a sign of a taking the voters and the position for granted.

Another point is electability. As we have seen so far, Clinton seems to be getting most of her support from the registered Democrats. Obama, on the other hand, is winning most of the independents. Now, in November, the registered Democrats are going to vote for the Democrat nominee (whoever it might be). But, independents are going to go for who they like. As we all know by now, Mcain is getting a lot of support from the independents as well. If he ends up being the republican nominee, which is quite possible, guess who the independents are going to go for between him and Clinton? On the other hand, Obama will be able to take the votes of the independents as well as the Dems. Who is more electible? You tell me.

I can’t believe we’re still talking about an affair Bill Clinton had. Why don’t we talk about J. Kennedy’s affairs with Marilyn Monroe and many other presidents as well. Statistics are that 80 % of men have affairs during their 50 year marriages!! So what are we going to do, ask women to divorce their husbands and have broken families with no dads for children to grow up in? Hillary did what every other woman has done in the past, live with it and get on with life. I also agree with a past comment…what about Rudolph Giuliani? Why are so many people interested what goes on in other people’s bedrooms? Does anyone realize that we are not just electing the next president of the United States, but the next world leader!! The U.S. can get the world in or out of wars…etc! Think about who you are electing. Are you basing your vote on someone who seems friendly and can talk in public?(knows how to make jokes, play the banjo, eat hamburgers…how ridiculous we look to the rest of the world!!) Base your educated vote on the candidate who has experience, who was top of the class at some important school. I’m voting for Hillary Clinton. I’m proud of her and happy to give her my vote.

from Roger: “Jan, you seem to think it’s all about peoples sex lifes, it’s not, it’s about lieing about it. So tell the truth how many affairs would you let your husband have?”

Wow, Roger, now you want to know about MY sex life???!!!???
Whew.

So… if it’s not about sex, why did you ask me about affairs?
Why didn’t you just ask me how many times I would let my husband lie to me?

In answer to your idiotic question:
Roger, since what I promised was “for better or worse”…
…maybe you can tell me how many “forgivenesses” that adds up to in a marriage.
I’m thinking 7 times 70, but I could be wrong.

To all Republicans who don’t care about the Clintons’ sex life (or my sex life) I apologize.
Tell your friends to grow up. They give the rest of you a really BAD reputation.

It sounds like John H. is a little jealous and feeling neglected. For heaven’s sake, are you going to list every woman or man every candidate or past president looked at or dated? Aren’t you worried about the country and our soldiers in Iraq? What about all the money you Republicans have spent and put on the national credit card that the next Democratic president will have to try and fix? Instead all you seem to be able to focus on is sex. It sounds like you need some help from a doctor. Can’t you seperate “important issues ” from gossip? But we can ignore everything as long as Bush says “God Bless America”, so that makes all the sensless killing ok? Yeah, I guess sex is the number one problem for you Republicans, or the lack of it.

I just can imagine the most powerful country in the world would elect a President named Barack Hussein Obama. It’s an african name they say…but who care’s! After 9/11…the US still never learn! Under the Clinton administration…the US enjoyed a surplus and Bill ended his term on a high apporval rating…higher than that of Reagan and Kennedey. I am not a US Citizen, I don’t live in the US of A…am only a person outside looking in! I believe Hillary Clinton will be a much better president than Bill Clinton and be a better president for the US of A. If not…good luck to the US of A…you will again elect somebody whom you would like to have beer with!

I’m assuming that no intelligent American voter will take anyone seriously who advocates that Americans should refuse to vote for a U.S. Presidential candidate based on his or her first name, middle name, or last name.

Comment by another construction union member

The union MEMBERS I talk to in Minnesota want Hillary, they like Edwards but don’t think he can get off the ground. They have seen their union get behind dream world candidates before (like Obama) and get there ass handed to them in the General election.(e.g.Kerry,Gore,) The older members especially, many of them minorities just want a democrat to win. I believe that the general election is the Democrats to lose, and from the member feedback I get we will if we pick Obama. I’m afraid most members won’t vote for an african american and yes racism is alive and well in unions as well as the general public, it is just hidden better, and no one wants to acknowledge this in this election.

There is no doubt in the world’s mind - the best candidate among those presenting themselves now for the president of the USA is by far and wide Hillary Clinton. The world expects this so do not deceive us.

Comment by Margaret

God help us all if Hillary is elected president. Talk about not being deceived, if Hillary is elected we will all learn about deceit. I am sorry but Hillary is not good at all for this country.

I am sorry Erica but Hillary only loves herself not America.

Donna it is really ashame that only Democrats can get ahead by saying Republicans is all about sex, maybe you had better stop and think about all people and not just a few. As a Republican and one who loves my country, I resent your sarcastic remark.
