Fox News Debate: Romney Jabs Paul

After Ron Paul answered a question about the Iran gun boat situation saying that the administration is looking for a rush to war. Romney jabbed Paul saying that he “shouldn’t be reading so many of Ahjmadinejad’s press releases.” Romney muttered, “he’s making fun of me.”

What happened to “no personal attacks”, Governor?

yeah, he’s crying like a two-faced baby.
I’m also surprised that they keep asking Ron Paul stupid questions in lieu of the real topics(which they ask the other canidates)

and is it just me, but the camera operator has the shakes bad… but only on 3 canidates, ron paul, fred t. and hukabee…
this makes them look like they are not at ease… come on FOX… hire some people that can do their jobs right.

Comment by Danielle

I think it was a low blow from Romney. I am becoming sick of the attacks these candidates make at each other. Making fun of other candidates views is immature and i dont think the president should be immature. Ron Paul has quite a few good ideas and stays consistent with the Constitution which is the supreme law of the land but people trust the media too much to seriously look into him or the Constitution and what it says on their own.

Comment by Sean

Fox was completely unfair to Paul in trying to keep him off the real issues such as the 9/11 Truthers, yea - real fair and balanced, fox!

Comment by Richard

Its interesting that Mitt attacked paul on that topic but yet spoke aggressively about it. Seems a little uneducated to me.

Comment by Sean

All the candidates are saying the same general public relation stuff over and over except Paul - he is the only REAL candidate, bringing up real issues with real solutions while all the others try to discredit him by laughing. Ron Paul blew everyone else away in this debate just as the other ones.

Comment by dbob

This debate is becoming a circus. It started off well on the economic front and Romney has made some solid progress (his comment on how we need to help Islamic nations become more moderate was particularly insightful), but the digressions into rah rah blustering is embarrasing for the party.

If Republicans have any brains, they’ll get on the Romney bandwagon. McCain is a great guy, but neither he nor any of the other candidates have the chops to do what needs to be done as Pres. and help unite the country.

Comment by Sam

What blatant attacks you make on a candidate. Why? What does FoxNews gain from attacking Ron Paul, instead of asking him valid inquiries. McCain is coming off like the grumpy old man he is. Keep laughing Senator, everyone can tell it is desperation.

Comment by snow

Romney needs to listen more carefully! Makes me wonder if he would listen to Americans? Dr. Paul was quoting military personal that was broadcast on ABC.
Cheap, cheap, cheap..acting like a kid in a sandbox, shame on you Romney!

Comment by dbob

Huckabee’s good old boy charm is wearing thin. Ron Paul actually has some good points, but he simply is too poor of an orator to distill them down into digestable soundbytes that can be understood by the US public.

Comment by snow

Oil, (American Interests as they call it) is not worth one drop of American Blood and McCain says being there for a 100 years is ok with him…well you go McCain. Your arrogance stuns me. How dare you sign away those lives. We want our young people alive and at home.

Comment by Yibili

I’m seeing the camera shake thing on Fred T. now, it’s weird. It actually wasn’t shaking on Huckabee that much.

Also Mitt Romney is no better than the current clown in the white house.

Comment by dbob

I’m not saying Romney’s a great guy. I’m also not saying that he would be a great listener. However, I think he would leave Washington and our standing in the world better off. I’m sick and tired of having a dumbass for a president. Romney has worked with the best and brightest people in the business world, and I’d like to see him bring his considerable acumen to bear on our economy and foreign policy.

Comment by Yokel Lokel

Did Fred Thompson refer to Palestine as “Pakistein”??!!!

Comment by dbob

Oil may not be worth our blood, but the economy is (that’s what all wars throughout history have been fought over). Oil is a key natural resource and as such is worth fighting for. The people who say we shouldn’t die for oil are the same who will be front in line to join the army when our economy goes into a depression after an OPEC oil embargo shuts off the spigot.

Comment by Yibili

It basically boils down to the major news stations try to tell us who the best candidates are instead of letting us decide for ourselves.

Comment by dbob

Romney is no Bush. He was the top guy at Bain for many years. I’ve worked with those guys and say that are undeniably some of the brighter people around. They know how to fix things (in fact, that is their speciality).

Bush would get lost after two minutes in a conversation with Romney.

Comment by dbob

Is Huckabee giving a sermon now? Yeeesh, lay off the bible thumping.

Comment by Kurt Boyd

I am retired Army 21 years active duty, I am also a member of the mormon church. mr romneys comment was ridiculous. He has not a clue how to handle foreign affairs, mr Paul is dead on right WE NEED TO STOP POLICING THE PLANET, treat allies like adults, Our foreign policies cause way more problems than they solve. No matter when we leave Iraq and what the reality is on the ground when we leave, It will return to the strongest man with weapons that we provide will take charge. Dr Paul is 100% correct when we get our own house in order and stop spending money we DO NOT have only then will we begin to rise up to our true potential. Dr Paul is the ONLY candidate to say the truth WE ARE LOOKING FOR AN EXCUSE TO ATTACK IRAN just like we did with Iraq. Fox news running of this debate is PUTRID….

KEEP IT UP RON PAUL YOUR MY HERO!!!!!!!!!

Comment by dbob

Go Ron. He actually made a good point there. I’m glad he is up there speaking from the heart, even though I disagree with him.

Comment by Charles Taylor

Yes, I agree that Paul had a raw deal for the first portion of the debate. Given the first question that was diredcted toward him, I think it is obvious that someone wanted nothing more than to violently discredit him as early as possible in the game. That was a low blow and I think that whoever decided that opening his debate with as loaded a question as inplying that Paul’s support rested in conspiracy theorists should be reprimanded for giving such a loaded and unfair posit.
That being said, Paul hasn’t done a thing to aid himself since this event passed. I’ll say that I knew nothing about this essentially “mystery” candidate before tonight, and seeing and hearing his response to the speedboat question completely turned me against him. He wasn’t even paying attention and proceeded to rant about immaterial information that seemed to an outside observer borderline conspiratorial; the likes of which he had previously been accused of consorting with. It has been all downhill from there and I really don’t see any hope for the man.

Comment by dbob

It’s unfortunate that Romney is so unlikable. The only thing that will stop Islamic extremism is moderation and that will only happen when they modernize and grow their middle class (people who have something to lose don’t blow themselves up en masse).

Comment by Duffy

Huckabee is really starting to wear thin……Romney and McCain are immature. I admire Ron Paul, and I think he would be a marvelous president if we weren’t currently in Iraq…..

Comment by randy

Romney is so right… Ron Paul is a flake and freak!!

Comment by Rory

Sean. I cannot believe you can take Ron Paul seriously,. He is a one hich short of a full lunch box. He is the Dennis Kucinich of the Republican campaign. (the Twilight Zone theme song plays in the background).

Comment by Duffy

McCain thinks he is so clever with his smirky answers…..

Comment by Kurt Boyd

Look your righ ron pauls response was not his best, he is always thinking big picture, he is right about this BRING OUR TROOPS HOME, Korea, Germany, Iraq on and on, lets spend the money at home where our people need help. hIS STANCES ABOUT THE CONSTITUTION AND TAXES ARE DEAD ON. I ENCOURAGE YOU TO GO TO YOU TUBE AND WATCH HIS videos , I once was a long time bush supporter RON PAULS VIEWS ARE OUR only hope whether people believe it or not. Look at the constitution and things have been out of whack for so long people think hes a quack, notice how Dr paul never looks at notes when he speaks he is so smart

Comment by Sam

Rory, i do hope you are joking, if not, sorry about your total lack of intelligence. Thanks.

Comment by Yokel Lokel

Ron Paul makes some good points, then loses me with his Crazy Cuzin looks and demeanor. He’s like the guy in the office that you make fun or play practical jokes on, and then doesn’t get it.

Comment by dbob

I agree about the blowback. The Ron Paul dogpile is only going to move people to sympathize with his sincerity.

Comment by Jay

As a military man I would have to disagree with every aspect of Ron Pauls ideas of foreign affairs. We as Americans do not police the planet we try our best to keep peace throughout troubling regions and try our best to prevent WWIII. A complete withdrawal from every part of the Middle East would equal genocide to the people of the region and war in the States. This means fighting battles at home not over seas. We can not let terrorist led states have the opportunity to obtain strongholds and WMDs especially with Pakistan’s current state.

Comment by Todd Rowsell

I cant believe how faux treats Dr paul. the only man on stage speaking the truth. I am from Canada and I wish we had a ron paul here. Wake up America, and turn of the propaganda machines, fox, cnn. abc, cbs,

VOTE RON PAUL!!!!

save the world

Comment by Kurt Boyd

Randy
You wont think anything is wrong until your electricity gets cut off to your laptop and you cant play your X Box. You seriously cant believe that Ron Pauls ideas are wrong unless youve been living under a rock and you like chinese food?

Comment by Megan L.

I wish Fox would try a little harder to ask fair questions that would give us all a little more insight into each candidate. Lately it seems like Fox only wants to push certain candidates. Media, mainstream or not, should report, not make news. And it should definitely NOT hand-pick our candidates for us. Ron Paul may not have all the answers. He may not even be the right candidate for the job. But it’s time Americans have the chance to discover the kind of candidate they really want. I guess all I’m trying to say is: Fox, please become objective. We already have enough entertainment shows to keep us laughing. We don’t need our news to help us escape reality.

Comment by Teresa

Pretty interesting that Romney tries to correct Ron Paul on his ‘passive stance’ - but then goes on to PROVE Ron Pauls position that they are NOT being passive! They may try to downplay the attention of the sitution - but the truth is they DO consider those ’speed boats’ as some sort of threat and that is why it was a question!

Comment by dbob

I agree Jay. Small conflicts are unfortunate, but a necessary evil to prevent larger World-scale wars.

Comment by Rory

No Sam, I am sorry to say that I am not joking. Ron Paul cannopt get out of his own way to save himself from looking like a real Goober.

Comment by Jim crawford

Come on Fox, you have to be kidding! Why ask such bogus questions to Dr. Paul? And out in the open for God and everybody to hear! You should be ashamed!

And don’t get me started on Mitt… What a fake!

Go Dr. Paul, change the world!!!

A military man? Ever scooped human remains off a road in Iraq? seen a kid get blown up riding in a back of a truck going to the PX to get shamppo and pepsi which he should of had in the first place, and they call this a combat patrol….what about losing friends in Panama to see Norieaga sit in a palace cell? Our brilliant foreign policy since WWII had led to this, people are killing each other everywhere why do we have to be in the middle of it? why are we not in Africa? WE HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF OURSELVES 1ST
then maybe we can take care of others

Comment by Matt

Brit’s attack on Ron Paul….”What are you saying, all the candidates proposed a peaceful solution and supported the Commanders”. Well the comment by Huckabee that the “gates of hell would be released” sounds like sabre rattling to me. Ron Paul is right! Fox is part of the propaganda machine perpetuating this war.

Comment by dbob

These people in S. Carolina are nuts. Fred Thomson???

Someone please call a doctor, the Republican Party is in need of a brain transplant.

Comment by Gabriel Beaven

I really do believe that Ron Paul tried his hardest and I believe in him and I really think he did very well tonight, he was very quick to answer and very well done in his speech to the american people. I think he was calm and humble when governor Romeny made fun of him, and thats what I see in a president.

Comment by dbob

Ron’s got no chance. McCain is the only electable candidate. Romney would be the best choice, but he’s too smart and not come off sincere. He would be better off running as a independent.

Romney Bloomberg in 2008! (now that would be a helluva ticket)

Comment by Sam

Rory, I was just kidding with you and meant no offense, just dumbfounded by your thoughts. Also, how did you feel about the outright attacks instead of questions to Dr.Paul, yes he’s a real life doctor, great, foxnews says he lost? Who else thinks Thompson won? Oh, did I take lsd and forget? what is goin on with this country and our “news” sources. God, i hope i am trippin.

Comment by Yokel Lokel

Gotta admit…I’d like to see 4 years of Ron Paul just for the entertainment….the guy challenges status quo which I like, but he sure does look crazy as a loon! Never seen someone so funny looking and acting but apparently without a thread of humor or personality!!

Comment by dbob

I should clarify that, Romney would get decent amount of independents and democrats to vote for him, so he is electable, but I don’t think the hard core christian evangelicals will support him.

Comment by Ann

After hearing Ron Paul knows the inner workings of foreign policy. Also, he definitely speaks with conviction about the future of our economy if we keep going down our current path of borrowing from China and giving money to other countries.

He’s not plastic! He is the real deal!

Comment by John Cochran

I’m voting for Ron Paul and I’m absolutely NOT a 9/11 truther. Those people are idiots. The question posed to Paul was nothing more than a hitjob.

Comment by LVG

I don’t understand why everyone is treating Ron Paul so poorly. I believe he made it clear that he is different because he is a true Republican who supports the Constitution and he is fiscally conservative and all of the things a Republican should be! I want to see him treated more fairly. He is very intelligent and I would love to see him lead our country in the right direction. We the People need to stand up for Ron Paul and America! The news media doesn’t need to tell us what to think or who is viable, Ron Paul is viable and he represents what I believe and I will support him and I thank him for representing us conservative Republicans!

Comment by C Carden

Ron Paul will never get a shot because the media will never give him a shot. I was a mass communication major and understand how the media works. A lot of Americans do not, and they let the media decide for them without realizing it. I have been a conservative for many years. I believe in true conservative values. In the past I have voted for Republicans because of what they are supposed to stand for. They do not stand for this anymore. Ron Paul does. Please take a moment to really listen to what he says. Not what everyone else says he saying. Him, his words, his ideas. Not the “spin.” Not the attacks. If you truly see through his eyes, you will see what the founding fathers truly intended for this country to be.

Comment by dbob

Sorry Ann. Ron may speak from his heart but he doesn’t know squat about the economy. Romney is the only candidate that has any real experience with the economy.

I work in finance and can safely say that Ron knows about as much about the US economy as I do about brain surgery.

Comment by Teresa

Jay - Ron Paul is not advocating we leave the world hanging. What he IS saying is that if we are going to get into a battle we better be sure of the facts and we ought to go after the right individuals. As we understand things now - we were wrong to go to war with iraq. There was no threat of nuclear weopons and if anything we should have gone after the TERRORISTS without involving the rest of the countries. Even if you think we were someone stabilizing the region for our own oil interests or to promote democracy - it really did not work out to solve those problems either. Brittan has already pulled out - it is time for us to do the same.

Comment by Gina

Fox News….I thought the point of your debate tonight was so that the American people can hear from ALL of the republican candidates. Ron Paul is the only candidate up on that stage with class, and the only up there being honest. Your moderators should have asked him more questions, real questions!

No one gives a hoot who said what about who, I want to know about the issues. I want to hear what Ron Paul has to say. Get with it Fox, Ron Paul will be the president in in Jan 2009.

Comment by Brian Endicott

I am registered democrat who has watched the race closely. I am highly disappointed in my own party. While I may be socially a lil liberal I am very Fiscally conservative and also believe that government on any level needs to butt out of the average Americans home-life. Congressman Ron Paul has highly interested me in changing my voter registration card!

Comment by Kent Anthony

I’ve voted Republican my whole life, worked diligently in the grassroots and until late last year the only non-sports channel I watched was Fox News.

Now, after seeing what Faux News really is, I’m done. After this campaign, if Ron Paul does not win, I am registering with another party. Faux News will never again enter my house and I will never support anyone that sponsors the network.

Immature, ignorant, stupid sons of whore beaches is all I have to say of Carl, Britt and Wendell along with NEOCON Rupert Moloch Murdoch.

Comment by John Cochran

Ron Paul has no chance? On Iraq alone, he is the only person that is talking about getting out of Iraq….something that 70% of Americans want! That transcends party lines…Of course that % might be lower if you ask a Frank Luntz focus group

Comment by Joe Finkel

Ron Paul is a joke. Didn’t see him smile or have a light moment this whole debate. Is the world really as pessimistic as Ron Paul sees it? He makes me depressed.

This was Ron Pauls worst debate, i challenge you to go to go to youtube and watch his videos. He is right, He has answers, you hear rep and dems say how there gonna solve this and that which is fine but where is the MONEY coming from? higher taxes? Ron Paul has a great idea lets stop giving BILLIONS AND BILLIONS OF DOLLARS AWAY LETS KEEP OUR OWN MONEY, LETS GET THE VALUE OF OUR DOLLAR RIGHT….we are broke people are living beyond their means credit has run its course china, saudi, and japanese are gaining ownership of us. look around read and what you find is scary. im not talking all the cook conspiracy stuff either I get my info from reliable sources. you people better wake up we can not police the world, terrorists arent gonna follow us from Iraq. I have friends in special ops anyone know how many people we intercept at our airports? we are policing everyone else yet our front door and screen door is unlocked. lets get real. YOU WANT THE TRUTH ?????

Comment by Debra

The others could get some ‘learnin’ from Ron on many issues, particularly fiscal and economic. I too find the unprofessionalism toward some candiates maddening; to make some look inconsequential. Is this one more instance of how media subvertly quiets and undermines voices of reason? Or another instance of dismissing that which they don’t understand? How many know the Fed is a private organization for instance?

Comment by Jer

Ron pretty much blew everyone else out of the water. Mccain, Huckabee and Guiliani are obvious puppets. Its infuriating the rediculous questions they asked dr. Paul. The only man talking about REAL issues and they do nothing but attempt to sideline him. Too bad for fox dr. Paul defended himself well and made the hosts look like idiots out there.

GO RON GO!

The best thing about this campaign is that is has exposed Fox news for being manipulative and biased.

Comment by Jay

Kurt,

Our policies may not be perfect but Pauls fantasies are absurd. I voluntarily committed my life to my Country. I have served overseas several times to keep my kids safe here at home. Do you honestly think if we followed Pauls ideas that our foreign relations would be fixed. We take care of ourselves by keeping our foot in the door and making sure a spillover like WW does not happen again. A complete pullout of the Middle East means America would longer be the Supreme Super Power us Americans have come to except. Being number one comes with many responsibilities and sacrifices. Pauls ideas make us weak and are not in the best interest of America.

Are there really this many crazy Ron Paul supporters or are they all the same poster?

LOL - dbob - Ron Paul does not know about the ECONOMY??? R U Kidding? He may not be great at explaining it to people because face it - it’s boring - but he DOES know what he is talking about.

The dollar has crashed and nobody else wants to talk about it - um - except Ron Paul.

Look up the Glenn Beck interview on YouTube dated 1/9/08. There is an interview of Dave Walker that basically confirms that our economy in this country is essentially bankrupt. got an extra 400k in your pocket? Each family in America is in that much debt just to pay for the baby boomers:

Hell, if there was an Indie in the White House, we may actually fix the problems, and be a better nation. a whole nation.

Ron Paul was obviously the winner of tonight’s debate. Mr. Paul was the only candidate that gave answers to the questions, the other tap-danced to them. The other candidates seem to mock Ron Paul constantly and not one another. Perhaps….he is a bigger threat to them than the media would like us to know…especially FOX, which seems to go along with the idea “Out of Sight-Out of Mind”….Go Ron Paul!!!

I think I want to go to a Ron Paul event and meet some girls…I think they’d be gullible enough to fall for my charm and wit and craziness. Bet there’s some hot girls there too!

Comment by Megan L.

You know, it’s my practice to actually research candidates before I smear them. If you’re against a candidate, at least get their platforms right. Ron Paul isn’t saying get rid of the military. Ron Paul is saying get rid of the idea we can afford policing the world. We all want world peace, people, but unfortunately we’re just not that wealthy anymore. Work on fixing ourselves before working on fixing everyone else.

Comment by Jennifer Graz

Ron Paul is a veteran! He is 100% for the military! But a strong USA means having our army protecting us here in the States. Military bases going up all over the world and we are closing down military bases here at home which cripples entire communities.

“Sam Wafflemaker” your comment comes from ignorance. Visit RonPaul2008.com

It disheartens me to hear “conservatives” like Romney suggesting we use more aggressive government spending to “save” the economy from the ill effects of too much government spending.

Ron Paul seems to be the only fiscal conservative in the group, and he seems to be the only one who understands the current global conflict in a historical context that goes back farther than 9-11.

Comment by cmarti

I am so frustrated for Ron Paul! He seems to be the ONLY republican candidate that is willing to say what we all think - the US needs to stop policing the entire world. I am a pretty conservative republican, and I love this guy. I am sad to say I feel he will never win. ‘Group think’ rides again.

Comment by K Russell

In New Hampshire Huckabee asks ROmney if he “READ MY ARTICLE” which refers to Huckabees article he wrote for Foreign Affairs, (http://www.cfr.org/publication/15076/). FA is the publication of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Why is no one talking about the fact that every person on stage except Ron Paul is a member of the CFR. They all have the same agenda. There is relatively ZERO difference in these candidates.

Currently FOX says Ron Paul won the debate with 35% of the votes. He is a REALIST. He is on the House Banking Commitee. He understands why this country is heading into the economic disaster zone & what we need to do to handle.

Comment by David

Fred Thompson actually stepped up and spoke with conviction tonight. Romney however stuck to his “I” speech as though he really thinks the American people believe he can and will single handedly go to Washington, dismantle it and put it back together the way he thinks it should be. ( “I will take Washington apart etc” ;) Totally unrealistic and hardly believable Mitt. In the corporate world that may work when you take over a business but not in government. Never has, never will. The changes this country needs must be and will only be brought about by the cooperative effort of those who truly love this country and have her best interests at heart regardless of party affiliation. That’s what we are are missing today. Sorry Mitt but there is no “I” in government…..I looked it up…………….

Comment by liz

Well said Megan,

it’s a simple as this.. how can you love others, without loving yourself??
you can’t .

it’s the same with money, the same with power, and also with Democracy.

you can’t spread it, if you don’t have it.

Comment by sam wafflemaker

Ok…so, all we can afford is weakness per Ron Paul.

Comment by dbob

I am well aware of the numbers Teresa. The problem, however is complicated and there is no simple fix. In every company or economy there is an optimal balance between debt and equity (in a copmany, one uses something called the CAPM model to analyze the balance). There are large advantages to leverage (debt) and that needs to be considered. That being said, our spending has been way out of control.

In my opinion, we would need to take a few steps to rectify the deficit spending.

1. Cut out the BS porkbarrel spending (McCain’s got this one right).
2. Raise taxes on the upper 1% ultra rich. They pay minimal amounts relative to their equity as they earn much more income from investments than others. 50% of the wealth of this country is tied up in this top 1% and that is simply not a fair society. The tax code in general needs to be revamped and simplified, and tax rates should be lower for the vast majority of American’s, but not the super rich. Even Warran Buffet agrees that he should be paying more.
3. Bring back the estate tax. No, it’s not something I think is very fair, but it is necessary to prevent America from becoming like old world Europe. The American dream is that everyone has a chance to succeed and some redistrubition of inherited wealth is required, imho, in order to maintain that possibility and the long term viability of the middle class.
4. Invest in new technologies to rid ourselves of oil dependence in the next 20 years. If we can do this, all the money flowing out of our country (which hit our trade balance and drives our dollar down), will be preserved and things will look much much brighter.

It is important to know that neither debt nor a weak dollar are inherently bad, but too much of either can have severe consequences. We need to be thoughtful about how we attack the problems.

Comment by Megan L.

Does anyone else feel as if they are living in a dichotomy? I love America so much yet I’m completely disgusted by most of the American people because they are so complacent and don’t take the time to actively be a great citizen by becoming informed!

Comment by Cosmos,MN Man

cmarti I feel the same. Seems like the media set it up this way.

Comment by steve

Mitt Romney CLEARLY needs to EDUCATE himself. He needs to read about how OUR CIA overhtrew the Iranian government, which was a pro-American republic, and installed a dictatorship who killed his own people, just because he wanted to regulate his own oil reserves within his borders! If people did that to us we’d be fighting! I mean, none of them can even spell the word “inflation.” They know nothign of the illegal Federal Reserve and our economy, which is dying. Only Ron Paul wants to get to the root-cause problems, which is the shadow government ( such as the CFR) controlling both parties and wanting complete world domination( that New World Order Bushes father talked about in his 1991 speech to congress); the Illegal, private Federal Reserve that OWNS all of us. The whole banking system controls everything and only Ron Paul understands this. Wake up, people. Ron Paul clearly won that debate because his answers, unlike Romney, were based on FACTS, not lies….like Romney’s.

Go Dr. Paul!
