Fred Hits Huck Hard in Fox News Debate

Fred Hits Huck:
“He would be a Christian leader but he would also bring about liberal economic polices and liberal foreign policies, he believes we have an arrogant foreign policy in the tradition of blame America first”,Thompson said.”That’s not the model of the Reagan coalition, thats the model of the Democratic party.” The crowd cheered.

” The Airforce have a saying that if you are not catching flak you are not over the target, I am catching the flak, so I must be over the target,”Huckabee responded, his supporters cheering him on.

Thank you fox news. You are so obviously attacking this man Dr.Paul, simply because his views differ from your news company. Romney made a jab at Ron Paul that was not only weak and unfounded, but desperate and pathetic. Thank goodness the audience sounds intelligent and saw you 9-11 attack on Dr. Paul for what it was.

Comment by Melissa

Thompson is obviously the only level headed conservative on the campaign.
Anyone can see that all of the other candidates are scripted. Thompson is the only one that seems to be able to speak ‘off the cuff’. He is the most down to earth candidate we have with some common sense.

Comment by Sam

Fred Thompson was at his best in Days of Thunder. His performance as a politician is laughable.

Comment by Cyber Pastor

I wrote on my site about what Fred brought up tonight a couple of days back. Just being a Christian doesn’t equal being a Conservative. Fred and Duncan Hunter are the only REAL conservatives in the race.

Comment by Rocky

I’m with Fred!!! Thompson is finally getting his foot in the door and I hope we can help him break it down.

Fred 08

Comment by C Carden

I’m from Tennessee.

Who am I voting for? Ron Paul.

Comment by Carol Maddox

Fred won this debate. People are tire of hearing the press say he is asleep. Fred is the most conservative! He stimulated the debate tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Comment by R Graves

Way to go Fred! I was looking for you to inject some life into your campaign…KEEP IT GOING!
You are the best guy up there.

Comment by Lillian

Fred was Dead On and Huck deserved to hear the Truth. Go Fred

Comment by Kelly LeCrone

Fred Thompson brought down the house tonight! I am now going to vote for him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Comment by Ron in Tampa

Thompson was great. It’s time someone else besides Romney pointed out the truth about how Huchabee and McCain stand on the issues. Too bad he didn’t bring up the $112,000 in gifts the Huckster got after he signed up for a couple gift registries.

Comment by Lonny Finley

I watched the debate and thought it was actually pretty good. Then came the Fred Thompson love fest immediately after. What the hell was that??? Could it have been more faked? Holy crap! Ron Paul won the debat hands down.

Comment by Lillian

My vote if for Fred Thompson. or Duncan Hunter, Romney is last choice, Fred is the best Candidate,

Comment by Hayden

Huck is the man. He may have a chance if folks like Sean Hannity would show equal respect to his as he does Romney and McCain. The repub machine of which Hannity is a part of is down on Huck because they think only McCain or Romney can win. This thinking will put a dem in the WH.

Comment by Eileen Oconnell

I think Thompson won tonight but I have to say I really like some of the things Ron Paul says. I really didn’t appreciate all the smirks and wise cracks from McCain, Romney and the guys from FOX. But Thompson was sharp and was able to think on his feet. Huckebee seems to be getting a little more strident in his answers and very defensive.

Comment by Jenny

The panel’s treatment of Ron Paul was a disgrace and shame on FOX for not apologizing for that one jerk on the panel! And NO, Fred did not win. Who were those people right after the debate? Were they allowed to watch the debate the rest of us watched tonight? Huckabee and McCain blew Thompson out of the water and Romney, as usual, spent more time attacking to avoid the tough questions and lack of original ideals.

Comment by Frank

Oh yeah Fred!!

Romney/Thompson ‘08

Unstoppable!!

Comment by pat sarver

Fred Thompson was obnoxious.I’d never vote for him now.

Comment by Stacy

Mike Huckaby has GREAT clear views that make him the ONLY MAN worthy of being a Republican President!

Comment by Stacy

I use to like Fred until tonight…

Comment by Richard

Fred Thompson is Part of the Council on Foreign Relations with Rudy Giuliani, John McCain and Mitt Romney. I would look up this orginazation as it is not part of goverment but involves a suprising amount of the presidential participants. All these men have a similiar agenda and I would like to find an american that doesn’t hold their rights and freedoms close. This orginazation known as the CFR for short seeks to take our constitution out from underneath us.

Ron Paul is the only republician openly against the agenda of this orginization. The four invloved with the CFR should be removed from the race as they are ” Not Electable” as Fox proclaims due to being against the American traditions.

Comment by Mick Crane

Fox News is trying to push through the candidate they want by the questions their asking candidates and the propaganda they push to viewers once the debate is over. Ron Paul clearly won this debate if you are a true Republican. If you dont think so pick up a history book, read the constitution. Dont let the Fox News casters manipulate you into who to vote for.

Comment by VB

I couldn’t help to question whether or not I was watching your debate or the facade of a debate on CNN/You Tube. Shame on Fox showing your true Rockefeller Republican colors. Indeed, Gov. Huckabee was ambushed in this debate because of his conviction of faith and interest in helping the middle class voters. You folks just don’t get it that he is a compassionate conservative, and if the GOP has any hope of not becoming a relic of the past then we need someone like Huckabee who isn’t a country club elitist Republican. Shame on both Fox and shame on you Brit Hume!! Without question you’d be backing Bush over Reagan in the 1980 primary process but the voters who work for a living and have a conviction of faith will prove you once again to be wrong and out of touch!

Comment by Jenny from CA

I don’t understand how many people get sucked in by baloney that spews from all these politicians. Give me a break, America WAKE UP! Do your homework. Don’t vote for people you don’t know anything about…do some research. QUIT FOLLOWING THE HERD!

Thompson is the man! Take a look at him, he had to WORK his way through college and then law school. He has been a bulldog on a variety of things…go look for yourself and see what panels he has served on and what he has done to try to improve the country for the average American. He’s finally asserting himself. Don’t knock him if you don’t know anything about him. Unlike other politicians, he wasn’t born with the silver spoon in his mouth (and neither was Huckabee, who is a strong second in my book).

My vote is for Fred! He is the man who can actually bring about CHANGE in our country.

Comment by Betty Jo Hicks

What Fred did is stoop to “name calling.” Though at one time I had leaned toward Fred I no longer do. I find Huckabee refreshing, intelligent, and relative. He strikes the chord of civility that’s needed while at the same time dealing with controversial issues. I really like him and am toward of the Republican Machine working against Huckabee.

Comment by Ron in Tampa

Agreed! Romney/Thompson ‘08

Comment by Kat

If you want the truth go to Fred Thompson. If you want it sugar coated go to Romney. If you want one liners go to Huckabee. If you want to hear the truth with a solution go to Guiliani. If you want to know what our enemy is pushing go to Ron Paul. If you want the serious side of our problems go to MacCain. Fred Thompson is not too late.

Comment by Betty Jo Hicks

Jenny, if Fred can bring about change, why hasn’t he? He didn’t care enough for this country to stay put and fight the status quo, but instead he went to Hollywood. I don’t trust him. I have a hard time with me who are unfaithful and marry younger women. I do not think he’s a man of integrity, and this country so badly needs to elect a leader who is not into all that superficial stuff. I love it that Mike and Janet lived in a trailer on the lawn of the govenor’s home. They have done other things to show that they are real and down to earth and really do understand the common man.

Comment by Betty Jo Hicks

Kat, I do think that they are all good at one liners and you do have to look past that and to the issues. I think Huckabee’s record in Arkansas speaks for itself. I do think Rudy is a problem solver, but he does COMPROMISE to get it done. I think he is the liberal one on the stage.

Comment by Andy

Fred talked about the Reagan principles, but wasn’t one of Reagan’s most important principle the 11th commandment (don’t attack other Republicans) instead we got Fred channeling the spirit of negativism I would have expected of Romney rather than Reagan. Fred’s attacks against McCain and Huckabee were the stuff of childishness pettiness rather than the White House.

Congratz Fred. Your vicious performance tonight may not cost you the election, but it cost you my vote… and the vote of every one of my friends that I can persuade to vote for another Republican on primary night.

Comment by Ricky

Romney/Thompson 2008 is a great idea.

Comment by Teresa

I liked what Fred Thompson had to say, I don’t think it’s too late to vote for Mr. Thompson. New Hampshire had a lot of independents who won’t vote Republican in the general election and Thompson came in 3rd in Iowa and 2nd in Wyoming. Also, apparently Democrats are coming across to vote in the Republican primary in Michigan to mess us up because they have only Hillary on the ballot there so she’ll win regardless in Michigan. I don’t want to be left with a choice between Huckabee and McCain (amnesty open borders both and higher taxes). Also Huckabee changes his positions with each new Fox Poll so that he fits the new desired flavor. He may be a preacher but he is just to eager to fudge his record to cover his tracks. Then there’s Rudy ( strong on defense, good on the war on terror and taxes, but he’s for sanctuary cities and amnesty). Romney is an okay guy, but I wonder about Massachusetts Governors. South Carolina is only the fourth state and Fred has some delegates already, so give Fred a chance….he gets my vote.

Comment by Christie

Yay for Fred Thompson! I was so glad to finally be able to hear him speak the way he did tonight! He has my vote, if nominated–otherwise, my vote will go to Romney should he be nominated–next, it will go to Guiliani, if he gets the nod–after that, if the nomination goes to either Huckabee, or to Ron Paul, I’ll give my one and only vote to–Hillary Clinton–so, come on, Fred!!!

Comment by Christie

Sorry McCain–I forgot about you–I’d like to see you win, in a way–so, if you get nominated to run against the democrat pick, you’ll get my vote for sure–yet, still, I’d like to say–come on, Fred!!!

Comment by Lucy Wilson

OK, Fred, that does it. You don’t get my vote. Negativity is what we have to get away from in this country….just look at how well negativity and attacks against each other are working in Washington D.C. They spend all their time trying to go one better on the other guy instead of working together for US….(doing the jobs WE hired them to do)….yes, we are their employer and we expect them to do their jobs. My vote is going to Mike Huckabee. He knows how to work with Democrats; he did it for 10-1/2 years and got things done.

Comment by Andy

Teresa,

Who’s cool-aid have you been drinking? Romneys or Thompsons? There’s not truth to the lies and deceit of so-called Republicans who continue to misinterpret Huckabee’s positions. Huckabee (for better or worse) has basically staked his candidacy for the presidency on appealing to two parts of the old Reagan coalition, 1) evangelicals 2) Working class “Reagan Democrats” These two groups share some overlap, but they’re not synonymous and together they make up over half of the voting public

I’ve been following him since August and I can say that I have seen very little change regarding his positions. Yeah, I’ll concede that he has refined his position on Immigration, but it wasn’t an about face or anything of the like.

Don’t tell me that Fred is some pristine Angel of the Right. Facts are a stubborn thing and Fred has some ’splaining to do about his own record as a lawyer and as a Senator - as a man in the public eye.

Fred was once in favor of a fair tax, now he’s in favor just tweaking the present system.
Fred flipped on abortion, going from abortion lobbyist to Mr. ProLife
Fred was for No Child Left Behind, now he’s against it.
Fred voted for a temporary worker program in 1999 and now says he’s against it.

People need to remember that Fred isn’t the guy he played on Law and Order, he’s a flawed man with flawed positions (not like that doesn’t include all of us), but we should be careful to not ascribe too much to the former junior Senator from Tennessee.

Comment by Dan

I watched the debates tonight and the first thing that comes to mind is, Ron Paul is an idiot! And then when FOX aired the results of the pole question, Who won the Debate?, Ron Paul was the winner. It seems to me a large number of people wanted to play a nation wide joke tonight. I beleive that Fred Thompson did a good job but I really think its too late for him. Mitt Romney, I don’t trust him. I’m not sure what I think of John McCain. My vote will go to Mike Huckabee. I think that if he would stop trying to be a politician and just be himself, more people would understand him more.

Comment by Jay

Dan
While you may think that the poll was a joke, jump over to the next blog and see the couple hundred responses in favor of Ron Paul! Or the ten of you can sit here and argue over the rest.

Comment by Ashlee

Way to go Fred!
Woohoo
Will the real conservative please stand up?
The very thought of Huckabee makes me want to puke. What a huge lie “I am a conservative.” Uhm- NO, I do not think so. What happened to the seperation of church and state. Just becuase someone is a preacher does not make him good enough to be president of the united States.
Please do not vote for him. PLEASE!
Fred or Romney! or even Guliani! hip hip hooray! But Huckabee? NO

Comment by Mike M.

Iowa and New Hampshire have a combined population of 4 million, less than half of that of Michigan or Florida. Too late for Fred? It’s not even too late for Ron Paul (and many of his followers) to get therapy. We need a true conservative. We need someone who is going to confront the lies of the Democratic party. We need someone who is courageous enough to take action against terrorism, take a conservative stand against domestic spending and run away taxation, and lead this country as Reagan did. Mr. Thompson isn’t the perfect candidate, but he is the best we have. The primary road will shape him and define him for middle America, who will embrace him as they did Reagan.

Comment by Dawn, AZ

I don’t understand this “I liked him, I didn’t like him,” mentality. Are we electing a drinking buddy or our President?

Judge them by the issues, people! Who cares if they look “Presidential” or you “like” them? Who will do the best job, make the best decisions overall? Think their decisions through? Represent the interests of America? Hold to Constitutional principles that made this a great nation? Are they truthful? Are their proposals sound and feasible? Do they understand the nature of the world we are in? Can they handle it?

Wow. The shallow ways some people are making this decision scares the pants off me. Our futures, fortunes and lives (not to mention that of our kids, grandkids, great grandkids… ;) are in our President’s hands. I would think we’d take this a bit more seriously.

Comment by Dawn, AZ

And why is pointing out your opponent’s records “negative?” It isn’t like we find out any other way. It’s only smearing if it isn’t true.

Comment by J.R. Schumann

Last night in Myrtle Beach, SC - Fred Thompson showed up! Having been a Thompson supporter for quite some time…I’ve known the kind of man he is. Last night, America got to see it. Fred Thompson showed great strength, personality, leadership, and true conservatism.

One thing that really irritated me was the FoxNews “Focus Group”. They unanimously declared Fred Thompson the winner, but followed that with comments like “too little too late”. Folks, let’s be real. There have been TWO states represented so far. That translates to less than 1% of the American voting population. It’s also been proven that a Republican candidate has never gone on to the Presidency without first taking South Carolina. Fred Thompson beat John McCain and Rudy Guiliani (and Ron Paul…as if that really matters) in Iowa with little to NO compaigning. Senator Thompson doesn’t have the Mitt Romney bankroll, so his political strategists agreed the best way to spend the money his campaign does have is to really launch his campaign in South Carolina.

Too little too late? Hardly. No one is saying that about Rudy Guiliani who hasn’t come in better than 4th or 5th yet. He’s not campaigning anywhere other than Florida right now…which their primary is weeks away.

This race has just begun…and my friends…Fred Thompson showed last night what true conservatism is all about. Reaffirming why…I’M WITH FRED!

Comment by Andy

Dawn,

A text w/out a context is nothing more than a pretext; or a half truth (at best) peddled as the truth is nothing more than an untruth. Fred reeked of untruths last night. I was ambivalent about him before yesterday. I will now work tirelessly against this Thompson.

Back at you Flip Flop Fred.

Comment by Judy Martin

Fred’s performance last night was superior! No questions he won the debate! He is the only true conservative running! Keep it up Fred!!!

Comment by Dreamer

Fred was great but seems he said exactly what Romney said in his ads and the MEDIA and Huckabee called it NEGATIVE campaigning…give me a break!…This is how everyone should have been reacting to Huckabee’s track record from the beginning when it was first made known by Romney. Romney has the experience leading in the business world and overcoming economic problems. Some put him down because he made money at it…DUH!!! That means he was successful….THINK ABOUT IT! He knows how to lead business and make JOBS!!!! Isn’t this what Michigan and South Carolina NEED and isn’t this what our country needs…SOMEONE who makes JOBS IN THE US…not drives them to China. LOOK AT THE FACTS>>>JUST THE FACTS…the true conservatives are rising to the top and to HECK with the so called 500 people that some pollster found somewhere during coffee breaks. NH Democrats were a great sign of what that state thought about polls. If REPUBLICANS gave up on everyone else telling them WHO to vote for and stopped being BATTERED by the MEDIA and people with agendas and got and voted their hearts out…we’d have a CONSERVATIVE in the White House…not a trickster who spends half of his time in Hollywood or hamburger joints and not a senator who makes DEALS with Kennedy and the rest of them…MITT ROMNEY is the best conservative out there. And he has the guts and determination to not let POLLS and REPORTERS OPINIONS tell him when to quit. He’s in it for the long run because he is DEDICATED…

Comment by Sandra

I was very impressed with Thompson and his frank style and common sence……..

Comment by Katie in NC

Just found this blog…thank you Fox…

IMO Fred Thompson won the debate last night…

I hope he will continue in this direction and win the nomination.

Comment by Gen. Lee Wright

All I ever hear about is how well Fred’s doing in debates; how he’s knocking things out of the park. Why then do we never read any articles about him potentially taking the reigns of the Republican party? Why are so many stations, Fox included at times, so eager to dismiss him? Is it because everyone fears the only conservative in the battle here?

Comment by Nate

Just wait til SC primary on Sat. He’ll finally get the coverage he is due by the MSM. No way he finishes lower than a strong 2nd. Fred is the absolute man!

Comment by Marye Bigler

If FOX NEWS would only give Fred Thompson as much PR as the rest of the candidates….the people in America would start noticing him. We can’t depend on the liberal left to do that……….they are all Obama and Hillary……..as you are now!

If you were honest, and I am beginning to doubt it………as I have been watching only Fox News for years………..Fred Thompson is the only Republican Candidate who is legitimate. He is honest and conservative and when he points out that the others are not conservative……..you do nothing to back him up.

He is the only one who could beat Hillary or Obama in any debate. Also, Abraham Lincoln was considered “laid back” and the people weren’t excited about him but he became one of the greatest Presidents ever.

It’s up to you FOX NEWS to promote Fred……….no one else will do it. I thought you guys were at least honest. You need some new reporters out in the field. They are only talking about Guiliani, McCain, Huckabee (liberal) and Romney………….everyone of which Hillary could beat as could Obama. Get with it FOX NEWS!

Comment by Robert Broom

I agree with Marye. Come on, the only blog input from the ‘embedded’ report from the Thompson campaign is the debate? What about raising $300,000 online the day after the debate? What about the sudden overflow crowds after everystop in SC on his bus tour? What about him gaining 6 points in one of the major polls two days after the debate? Where are these stories?

Go Fred go! Ron Paul is my congressman but there is now way I would vote Dr.No as President. I vote for him as a Congressman because I agree with his fiscal conservatism. I like him in congress to stir the pot. I would never want him in charge of foreign policy. Fred is a fiscal conservative who could lead us nationally as well as internationally.

Comment by William Pruett

I am a 50 year, christian, life long Republican, who is so disgusted with George Bush I was going to change parties. Then a funny thing happened, I heard Fred Thompson speak. As I listened, it was if he was speaking to me. I have been hooked ever since. I have never actively participated in , or donated to a campaign, till this year. We, the silent majority in this country have a unique oportunity, to change the direction of politics, if we make the right decisions, in the 2008 election. Washington is broken. In order to fix it it will take a great leader, and I sincerly believe that that great leader is, and will be Fred Thompson, and for all the right reasons. Not fer personal ambition. I sincerely hope that the good people of South Carolina, will look past the negative attack adds, Push Polling and dirty tricks that have been and are being used by some in the other camps, as well as the liberal news media to influence the out come. Ther is only one true conservative, down home honest man in the race, and a little research will prove it if you take the time to look. May God bless Fred Thompson, his family and all the folks in South Carolina, who I believe will make the right choice.
