Hillary Heckled
10 minutes into Sen Clinton’s address to a crowd of 700 in Salem, NH, a man near the front of the hall interrupted the remarks — standing up with a big, yellow sign reading “Iron My Shirt” and loudly chanting the same phrase. He was soon joined by another man in the back. Those homemade yellow signs (with the slogan sometimes followed by a profane, derogatory term for women) first popped up at a feminist protest at the Masters in 2003.
At first, Hillary kept plowing through her stump speech, but when the interruption didn’t stop she asked for the house lights to come up. As security started to remove the two hecklers, Hillary said “ah, the remnants of sexism are alive and well tonight.” The crowd erupted, rising to give her a standing ovation.
“As I think has just been abundantly demonstrated,” she said, “I’m also running to break through the highest and hardest glass ceiling.”
Later, saying she’d answer questions from the audience about the issues facing the country, Clinton joked “if there’s anyone still left in the auditorium who wants to learn how to iron his own shirt, I’ll talk about that.”
At least she seemed entertained by the distraction, on a day where much of the focus was on her emotional reaction to the difficulty of campaigning. Clinton called such interruptions on the campaign trail “always interesting,” saying “it’s one of the things I love about it, it’s never predictable.”
UPDATE: here’s the video… the long crowd reaction (including Hillary chants and standing O #1) cut out due to time constraints.

Clinton operatives planted in the audience…
I wouldn’t be surprised if they were planted. It wouldn’t be the first time she’s done something like that.
The cynicism of the previous remarks is just breathtaking. And Hillary is absolutely right about the misogynism in this culture, in my view a good part of the explanation as to why people prefer Obama’s eloquence to her extraordinary competence.
I admire both Bill and Hillary Clinton, but I’ve tired of their cynical, insulting manipulation. If we didn’t already know them, the tears would be reason for empathy and the heckler would be reason for outrage.
We all remember the staged photo of Bill holding Hillary’s hand with a Bible under his other arm. That was the Sunday after his confession about Monica Lewinsky.
There are no spontaneous, authentic “public” moments with the Clintons.
I highly doubt they’re planted, those men exist in abundance unfortunately.
Men are afraid of strong women.
There is a shocking amount of undeserved hate directed towards Hillary, she can’t do anything right aparently.
It’s sad because she seems like the best person for the job.
The guy in this video with his sexist behavior is a PIG and I’m glad that the guy sitting by him ripped the sign away. This is the type of attack that Hillary goes through on a daily basis. No self-respecting woman should ever vote for someone like Obama just because he sounds good. What a slap in the face to hard working women all across this country. The women who vote for Obama are truly pathetic and will never get my help when they themselves are on the receiving end of these sexist attacks at some point throughout their lifetime. I’m sure you’ll regret your vote the day you or someone you love is subjected to this type of behavior.
I think observation of her expressions and composure in the video is fairly telling. There’s very little emotion or reaction and just a simple “turn on the lights” for a situation that should have upset her, just a little, given her recent track.
While I’d like to think the best of her, or anyone vying for leader of the free world, finding out that this was staged by her personally, would indicate her low regard for the intelligence of the American people, and specifically New Hampshire voters.
Does anyone have any insight into the police report followings that would be filed on something like this? I can’t imagine the “hecklers” would simply be tossed out with a “don’t come back.” Seems like a simple matter for a reporter to investigate and have a nice story out of, regardless which way the outcome lands. Perhaps this would even be public information?
Regardless of whether or not it was staged, or who it was staged by, it seemed just a contrived attempt to combat the criticisms she received earlier today for showing “too much” emotion.
The Clintons have been on the campaign trail for quite a few years.
She’s not gonna let go without putting up a good fight. I also personally heard him talk over a year ago at some trade show, there was a weird feeling in the air when he switched his speech into campaign mode.
Just as Dubya wanted to complete Daddy’s unfinished business, Hillary wants to round out Bill’s legacy. I’m tired of politicians claiming their inheritance.
hmmm…wonder if the guy was a plant for hillary to deliver her lines…
The “iron my shirt” act is a little too curious. It’s probably a plant from Hillary’s camp to enable her to, at most, re-play the gender card, or at least, to project an image of indifference to hecklers. I guess the science of heckling is not that developed yet.
Being from Arkansas, I’ve gotten to know Billary all too well. So when I read this article, I thought this had to be a plant, and was surprised to find that so did most everyone else.
staged
why would someone make a sign with both sides stenciled?
what’s amazing is her glass ceiling comment - she’s running on a sexist foundation.. “the first woman President”.. that’s one of her selling points - based completely on sex.
Hillary as suffering hero. Manufactured - The Clinton Bag of Tricks is deep. This is just the start, but it will stop abruptly if she can recapture the lead.
If you can’t see this is as staged political theater then you lack the intelligence to cast a ballot. I like how she had a canned comeback ready for the heckler too.
Vote for me… I’m a woman. How sorry.
Oh yeah this is “faux” news
It really bothers me, as a woman, when others tell me that I am a bad one because I do not support Hillary Clinton. I have no doubt that a woman can be president, I just don’t think ANY woman can be president. Just as I do not support some of the men running, there is no reason that simply because I have female anatomy does not mean that I need to vote for someone who does, that is absolutely no basis for a political decision. In a society that calls itself equal, why is there so much emphasis on the fact that she is a woman and we should support her for only that reason?
“why would someone make a sign with both sides stenciled?”
So that he could hold it correctly no matter how drunk he was?
Hillary is a consummate manipulator - just like Good Ol’ Bill.
How far can you trust her? How far can you THROW her? Yep… quite a bit further than you can trust her - even with her two-axe handle derriere’.
Keep on drinking that koolaid - libs. You’re guaranteeing another 4 years of Republican presidency. Go Hillary!
LMAO.
It’s not Hillary’s gender that has given Obama the lead. If a woman was giving the same message as Obama so effectively, she’d be trouncing a minority candidate who stood up and talked about discrimination, glass ceilings, being persecuted, etc. People project their hopes, dreams, and all that’s good about themselves on Obama because of his message, because he is for the most part positive (save that apparently snide ‘likeable enough’ dig, and because he tells us it’s about us.
The same people seem to project their disappointments, fears, and all that’s bad about themselves on Hillary, because her speech is about “experience” dah-dah-dah yawn, snore, SSDD.
We all have good and bad in us. Some relationships work because partners bring out the best in each other; other relationships fail because the partners bring out the worst in each other. Undecided voters who years ago stopped saluting the flag of a fraudulent government and did anything possible to tune out smirking leaders again sense empowerment, pride in being American, a chance to take responsibility for our environment, etc. Obama is the face of a movement that he did not “manufacture” or have to pay people to show up to. So long as he keeps it positive he will continue on the road to the nomination. May God bless him and keep him safe.
IRON MY SHIRT!!!!IRON MY SHIRT!!!!!!
This campaign isn’t about gender or race as many are trying to play it out as. You should never vote for a candidate based solely on those things.
The reason I’m and I think many others aren’t going to vote for Hillary is because, despite what is thought, the majority of American people can easily see through the Clinton’s precise and calculated political machine. We’re don’t like and are tired of being seen as numbers to be manipulated at the poll.
Obama’s character far exceeds Hillary’s. This is shown on his reactions to the endless and shameful political attacks orchestrated by the Clinton campaign on Obama. Obama might lack a long political record, but he easily makes for this with his character.
Ron Paul will get us out of the war. Romney, McCain, Huckelbee, Clinton, Edwards will not. As far as Iran, they either beat the war drum or talk about diplomacy, but what happens when that fails? They put on a show, pretending and hinting they will get us out, yet at the debates, they won’t commit - except for Ron Paul.

Sarah,
You complain about sexism, but you won’t vote for a man based on his sex?
Repost here once you’re done with your coloring book so you can concentrate on your thought process.
We all have wrinkled clothes, perhaps dis American cult of “hecklers” is onto someting, could candidates have competition to help America’s fat single men wid dier lawndry? THis is good for candidates to help with de lawndry of de fat American lonely single men, who are so ugly dey have no wive or gweril friend to help dem. How sad…Hillary should show much more compassion for the fat lonely ugly men who need help wid thier domestic chores. How would have Obama reacted, him being an african man, would he take insult? I think he might h ve compassion because he is ugly too..and many times wear wrinkled shirt. And de Giuilliani? He have lots of women who iron his shirt, too many. Perhaps Guiliania can share these women he has with Obama and the other ugly fat white men, who have wrinkled clothes. I like America, and Tide Detergent and GE Iron.
Iron my dead body!
Hmmmmm…………..faux questions, faux rallies, faux tears and now perhaps faux demonstrators to try to get the women’s vote away from Obama.
Hillary is so transparent, it is really sad to see all these gimmicks from yesteryear.
She and Bill should retire with whatever dignity they can scrape together.
Sarah, Your comments make it seem as if you are opposed to Obama simply because he isn’t a woman and he is running against Hillary. Voting for a woman just because she is a woman ( Reverse sexism) is on par with sexism. I truly hope that you have feelings regarding Hillary based on more than just her being a woman. Also saying that you would never help a woman who is victimized by sexism because they voted for someone you didn’t seems not only un-American but also that it would help further the cause of misogynists to keep women down. I truly hope that on election day you base your decisions on more than just who is a woman or a man. Also it did seem staged, she and her entire campaign are grasping at straws and any little thing they think may work. It’s an act of desperation. Lets hope that after N.H. (which she is obviously going to lose) she can refocus her strategies and we can see some quality policies and straight forward campaigning from all sides of the race.
“Iron My Shirt”
hmm…looks like bill’s handwriting…
lol funny stuff. it probably was a plant by some dailykos types. sexism exists, racism exists, and so does gravity. spare me the “repression” bullcrap.
Wow, that was pretty funny. Whether they were planted or not, just watching the awkwardness of the moment was rich. Those guys cracked me up. I’d kind of like to go try something similar myself if Hillary comes to my town.
Does anyone remember Bill’s fake tears at Ron Brown’s funeral when he saw the cameras were on him. He was laughing and back slapping and then when he saw the cameras he started wiping away the tear. Hilliary comes from the same mold. Protester was a plant and the tears were planned. How are some of you still fooled by this woman.
…has she got the experience needed to iron a shirt?….or the judgment?
Hillary doesn’t need to plant sexist pigs in the audience. There’s always someone from Fox News there to put her down. ——
Calling the Clintons manipulative is selective amnesia, after we’ve had Bush, Cheney and Rove trading on the tragedy of 9/11 to manipulate the American people into an unnecessary war abroad and warrantless wiretaps at home. ——–
No administration has ever been more manipulative than this one. Ask the displaced from Hurricane Katrina.
The press should find this guy and investigate him. I’d not be surprised to find out that he is connected with the clinton campaign.
Sarah, your comment completely baffles me. Women who vote for Obama are “truly pathetic?” There is a lot more on the table than the gender of the candidates.
I don’t know if this was a plant or just a couple of guys looking for a minute in the limelight. Both seem as likely as anything to me.
No one said the Bush Admini was good, just that she is evil…. more or less and really isn’t she just like all other politicians. It just so happens that the Clinton’s are the greater of all evils.
He actually was a plant. I was there and heard the two guys talking before the speech. A bit too outrageous for me, but anything goes in these desperate political times, and one can never be too calculating.
I find it surprising sarah condones violence either for or against her position. Typical double standard.
Where is Hillary “Rodham” these days. What ever suits her.
After all this is a chick who did nothing when her husband cheated on her and us. All for power.
QUE MY PLANT!!! QUE MY PLANT!!!
It’s 2008…. People either love or hate Hillary… Unfortunately for her her campaign has derailed and she can’t seem to catch-up fast enough. As a result she is even losing the support of those who “love” her due to her own actions and fumbles. The Obama wave didn’t have to be as big as it is, she is doing this to her self.
I don’t trust her.
I am 72 years old. My biggest fear is that for the rest of my life I will have to hear and read the names Clinton and Bush. THE HORROR! THE HORROR!
I was a graduate student at Harvard years ago when Bill Clinton was President. I was alone on Brattle Street when Hillary Clinton emerged from a house fundraiser. She looked straight in my eyes as she passed in her car and waved, her detail in tow. I remember to this day that I said nothing back, and kept my hands at my sides. I juts stared with a frown. She seemed disturbed. I am quite sure she did not forget it either, by her shocked look that I was not bowing to her. Who does she think she is anyway? I had no time for her then and I have none now. She is false, she is not genuine and completely incredulous. She is the ultimate opportunist. She has no experience at all to be President, not because she is a woman, but because she is just an opportunist. Her senate seat was handed to her, because her husband did what most other world leaders do, unquestioned. I mean look at Sarkozy, and his country applauds. Good for him, and his good taste by the way. Bill Clinton, Hillary’s former President husband is a great man, and was a great President. I cried when he left Washington. I remember thinking it was the beginning of the end. Little did I know what would occur over the next years. I hope Hillary will just go away. I hope that Barack will unite this country, as he only he really can at this point. Thanks for reading.
Does Hillary know how to iron a shirt? She’s probably been having Bill do all of that the whole time. But yeah, it seems like a plant to me.
Oh! Those sexist pigs. Hahaha! Seriously…she’s going to build everything on the fact that she’s a woman?! So, whats going to happen during her time of the month? Interim president? Or do we just end up attacking 3 or 4 different countries. My goodness.
Hey Panskeptic,
Ask the displaced people of LA. who they blamed for Katrina. They elected a Republican governor.
They didn’t fall for the media spin like you did.
Come on guys. Don’t become like the immature college lefties who shout down speakers. Get em on the issues.
And pulling this sexist garbage only emboldens their agenda against the rest of us.
Definate Hillary plant. haha. “queue the sexist man…”
hillry its time for you to throw in the towel. You don’t have 35 years experience. We already bought your house for you. we don’t want or need your foney ideas. god bless whearever you sleep tonite and the nite after
Hillary is butt ugly. I would never let her iron my clothes; I’d be afraid the ugly would wear off onto me!! Yucgh!!!
Horrible acting! Hopefully this will help those on the fence to make up their mind.
This “protester” was clearly a fake. The Clinton camp had a prepared answer to the phone protesters to rally support from woman voters. This is sad evidence of desperation from Hillary and team.
“Clinton operatives planted in the audience”
You all must be mistaking this got one of W’s pre-arranged town hall meetings. You remember them, right? The ones with the ignorant idiots throwing softballs at him, asking him how they can help him out doing the hard work of brush clearing!
[...] This one’s for you Frank… Two guys booted for telling Hillary to iron their shirts… Hillary Heckled FOX Embeds FOXNews.com [...]
Sarah:
Don’t act like you speak for all women. I hate Hillary, for precisely the kind of comments she made following this dumb stunt. She’s running to break the “hardest” ceiling?? No, I want a presidential candidate who is running to save our country, not to be some sort of historical figure because she is a woman. Or because she is power/attention hungry. She thinks she is better than us (both men and women) and doesnt care about the USA. Only her own power and celebrity.
Plus, I’d never vote for a woman who stayed with a guy who humiliated her and strayed as badly as Bill. Had she left him, I would be MUCH more inclined to support her. But she didn’t. Why? NOT because she loves him so dearly, but because she knew her only shot at being president wasnt to stand on her own merits but ride his skanky coattails. She is a disgrace to our gender and absolutely the last person I want future generations of young women to admire.
Was this guy planted? Was the “I Love You” call staged? Was Vince Foster murdered? Is Hilary in bed with crooked Chinese donors? Illegal investment schemes netting 100x+? Who the heck knows, but whether I vote for a democrat or republican, I can tell you this: the last name won’t be Bush or Clinton. I want something new for this country. Are we all so chicken to find out what anyone else would bring to this country that we are willing to elect another 8 yrs of the Bush/Clinton dynasty? bah, fergettabout it. No MORE.
Another Sarah

Confirmed fake! Someone must be getting desperate.
I would not be at all surprised if this was staged by her - I put nothing past these people when they are in the pursuit of power.
It wouldn’t surprise me if it was Fox News that planted the two nuts….. too bad it backfired!
Grow up. Blaming hillary for the rude behaviour of those two dimwitted men is ridiculous. You may not like Hillary but as the french say sans sufit.
There ’she’ is, with her mannish hair cut, her mannish clothes, claiming that she’s also running to break the ultimate glass ceiling.
Humbug. She staged this just like she staged the ‘tears’ earlier. You want plastic, vote for Sir Hillary, if she doesn’t take all your money, she’ll entertain you with more bs than her slick willy husband….
Staged - not by the hillary, but by Toucher and Rich. Adolfo job well done sir.
Of course this was staged. The Bill and Hillary Show mocks our intelligence so boldly that we are timid to reject it, lest we acknowledge their obvious sense of superiority and our implied inferiority. Please stop buying their phony idealism and emotionalism. What a load of BS.
Heckler 1 “Ooh women should be cleaning the house and stuff!”
Heckler 2 “Women are bad!”
Hillary “Hey I’m a woman, so vote for me”
These hecklers were probably staff members of the Clinton campaign, trying to turn this losing candidacy into a sympathetic victim of stereotype of sexist behavior. Real hecklers would have been anti-Hillary, instead of anti-woman.
Whenever I have seen protesters with signs making a scene in a large crowd, they have always been a part of some organized group: pro life, pro choice, neo-nazi, K.K.K., N.O.W., Dr. Kings anti racists, etc. So I would like to ask anyone who doesn’t think this was a pre-planned setup; What
group do you think these men were a part of, whose slogan is “Iron my shirt”? They were obvious plants, and it shows how unimaginative the Clinton people are. She could not even see how obvious this stunt would appear. Just imagine the foreign policy of a president as naive and insulting as Hillary. We would all be killed because of her. I’m not kidding.
Remember,
the last time Hillary was heckled was when she went on a “listening” tour and tried to socializ 17% of the US economy into government mandated healthcare.
Hecklers in Oklahoma City met her tour waving brooms which had been stenciled with
Air Force 3
implying she was a witch
have to love the T.A.R.D.S. for getting this sign in, wbcn and toucher and rich rule!
Are you kidding me? This is SO a last ditch effort of the Clintons. Always remember the famous quote of Clinton advisor James Carville…circa 1992 or so…”it is hard for your opponenet to answer your charge with our fist in his face.”
Hillary is absoutely great!
Bill “…and then give them a wink and turn on the tear machine, and if you really want to lullaby’em do the old thumb-in-wrapped forefinger sincerity mindlock gaze”
Hillary “Bill, how can you be serious, who would buy that?”
Bill “Well you did Hil…”
Hil ‘You rogue…take me! Take me to Speedie Signs! I’m feeling naughty!”
It’’s quite possible that the whole episode was planned by the Clinton campaign. One of the two men was found to have a Clinton for President” sticker on his carrying case. See the following article at http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/dc/2008
/01/sexist-jamokes-disrupt-hillary.htm , which reports that one of the men, “Nick Gemelli, who is 21, and born at least a decade after “iron my shirts” was an anti-women’s rights slogan, didn’t have much of a rationale. “I just don’t think a woman should be President,” he said.
He couldn’t really say why, but he agreed that he was a health care voter, as the sticker on his carrying case implied. The “Hillary for President” sticker was a bit more of a puzzle.
I see that most of the derogatory comments above saying that the whole thing was staged or that the two guys were plants are being made by men. Figures.
Agree with Laura - the netroots are unbelievably sexist -you get a group of men together who have no way of being identified, and there they are in the locker room again. What I’m amazed at is so few women here standing up for women and themselves and the ones who feel like they can chime in are those who have to say something negative and repeat sexist talking points about other women.
[...] covering the 2008 presidential campaigns. They’ve even termed these reporters “embeds,” which sounds a little too close to the geneological disposition of the average South [...]
I’ve seen more believable story lines on WWE.
“DIDN’T YOU NOTICE THE POWERFUL AND OBNOXIOUS ODOR OF MENDACITY IN THIS ROOM?”
This wasn’t staged - at least not by the Clinton campaign. Hillary is a smart woman and campaigner. She is not an idiot. They wouldn’t ’stage’ this, because the political fallout of being exposed would forever wreck all future political ambitions, presidential or otherwise. Hillary is much too careful, and her careful nature is a quality that will serve America well when she is President.
A much more likely scenario is that this misogynist is an OBAMA PLANT… He gets to fan the fire of sexism, knowing that Hillary will take the blame for his media stunt.
Staged by Hillary? Not long ago we heard the EXACT SAME baseless attack when a mentally ill man held hostages at a Clinton campaign office. And when the facts were confirmed, did a single person who had pointed his finger at Hillary say “I was wrong I am sorry”? Of course not, because liars will never be sorry for their lies - as long as the favored candidate can benefit from them.
The TRUTH doesn’t mean much to so many Obama supporters. What seems to matter is getting their daily fix of Hillary bashing. Their leader’s trade is false hope, and integrity is the price they pay.
Blame The Victim is an old trick favored by those who rape and denigrate women. I am sad to see the “agents of change” use the same despicable tactics that should have been buried long ago.
Fair and thoughtful people will consider that, just maybe, this heckling misogynist was a plant by Obama, Edwards, or some other Republican.
Fair and thoughtful people do not claim to be all-knowing about the Clinton’s marriage vows and Hillary’s love for her husband. “HOW DARE SHE WORK IT OUT AFTER HE CHEATED! (because broken vows and broken families is always the best choice for everyone!)”
Fair and thoughtful people do not spend years gossiping about a man’s infidelities, then blame his wife and say “I wish we didn’t have to hear about all this! It’s disgusting!”
In other words, this board is littered with amazingly similar “viewpoints” of people who are neither fair nor thoughtful.
Later, many Obama and Edwards supporters will curl their lips at Limbaugh or Beck. But they won’t mind any cheap shot at Hillary. What’s a little lost integrity? Not much if it will help your man kick that greedy-over-ambitious-lying woman off the stage and back to the laundry room where she belongs!
MENDACITY! YOU WON’T LIVE WITH IT, BUT YOU’RE AN EXPERT AT IT!
Hillary can not be trusted.
This was a prank played by a radio station. No, really it was. A similar prank was played at Martha Burke’s protests at the Masters golf tournament.
I think it’s funny that everyone thinks it was a plant. Hillary has lost all trust.
Couple of Hecklers, No Hecklers, Dumb Whore
Do ya think “iron my shirt” was a plant?
This was not staged. It’s a stunt by the Toucher and Rich Show.
All of you nitwits have said the same exact thing. This list of comments is an echo chamber with no value.
Huckabee was heckled and used it as an opportunity to point out Chuck Norris. So are they both using plants? Cynicism is so easy. It makes one sound intelligent, yet requires no mental effort. But underneath, it requires you to believe anything you think, without any proof. Is that where we wwant to go with this culture?
I would say that these were definitely Clinton operatives. I would expect that from her, she’s too calculating. She’s started to give false statements on debates concerning Obama’s record, and there’s no way that those statements were an accident now that I’ve given them serious thought.
I will say now that I’m almost 100% confident that Democrats will win this election, and it looks like it will be Obama. If the best Republicans can come up with is email chains highlighting his middle name, then it looks like a sure win. I expect dirty tricks like automated means of tying up his office’s phone lines, trying to hack automated election machines, and the like from the RNC.
