Clinton Talks Tears with Fox News

Hillary Clinton laughed off the suggestion that her teary-eyed response to a seemingly innocent question in Portsmouth today was a “Muskie Moment” — saying “I think this is so ridiculous. People who have followed me during the course of my life know that, you know, I am a passionate person and I care deeply what happens to people.”

She cited the “intimate setting” and the concern the undecided voters there showed for the country for what was, for the usually stoic senator, an outpouring of emotion. “I am a real person. I have feelings. I care about what I do,” she said. “I am worried about our country and what is going to happen to the next generation. And if I get emotional about that, or if I am passionate about defending myself, I’ll let other people draw their conclusions.”

In an interview with Fox News Political Correspondent Major Garrett — the second in as many days — Clinton also took issue with Barack Obama’s dismissal of her claim that he represents “false hope;” Obama says that argument is like Martin Luther King standing at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington and saying “sorry guys, false hope. The dream will die.”

Clinton said “Dr King’s dream began to be realized when President Lyndon Johnson passed the civil rights act of 1964… That dream became a reality, the power of that dream became real in people’s lives because we had a president who said ‘we’re going to do it,’ and actually got it done.”

The answer fits her “rhetoric vs reality” approach, but as Politico’s Ben Smith points out, it’s indicative of the problem with her basic campaign argument. After all, who would the American people rather support — Martin Luther King or Lyndon Johnson?

UPDATE: Watch a more formal version of the MLK/LBJ argument at her rally in Salem, NH

Okay, we have Clinton ads airing in NH about what a strong leader she is … and here she is getting all weepy under the pressure?

This is not the person American needs in the Whitehouse during these perilous times.

Shame on her for presuming she has what it takes to lead the most powerful country in the world when the thought of merely getting up in the morning brings her to tears.

It makes me nauseous.

It is not a weakness in leadership to show tender emotion. I see no fault in Clinton for doing so. She is human like the rest of us.

Criticizing her shows a weakness in the one doing it.

Even though I do not support Clinton as President, I think civility should be shown to her. Making fun of her is something I would think a school yard bully would do, not a reputable news media.

I’m not a big Hillary fan but, I must say she came across as real person in Major Garret’s interview.

More like that and she just might win the nomination.

It also raises the question of why do the Dems fear FOX? Wallace was butal with the GOP candidate last night. If you cannot answer the hard questions without spin then you have no business in seeking the office.

Sen. Clinton seems to be saying that black people did not demand their civil rights, but that big white daddy in Washington graciously bestowed them.

I think she has just commited political hari-kari.

Good riddance to ambition which has lost its political and moral compass.

I’m sick and tired of people and FOX NEWS for constantly bashing Hillary Clinton! She is the ONLY qualified candidate to lead this country as president!! John Edwards and Obama bashing Clinton during the debate should tell you people that they realize that fact too! WAKE UP…
Stop listening to Obama’s charming, biblical speeches that are full of false hope. And FOX NEWS needs to stop their obvious support for Obama “Hussein”. FOX NEWS calls themselves ” fair and balanced”? Bull-honkey!!!!!

The media is atempting to declare the Democratic Primary Election over, and this is scene as an tempt by establishment insiders to hand pick the Democratic Nominee. Sen Obama claims he’srunning against Washington insiders. Let’s look at his US Senate Campaign contributions, they came from Corporate Executives with direct ties to who Washington , New York and Chicago Money Powerbrokers who Mr Obama will need to govern as President in a Capitalistic Nation and Democratic Society.

Hillary Clinton must continue this race, because the Republicnas will label Sen Obama a true insider with no experience, who will spend his first four years learning how to be President.

I predict Obama runs a few victories and Hillary wins the race in a distance run.

With our Economy decling, we another a Proven Leader to fix Bushes mistakes and his weak economic policies, which will increase unemployemnt by time, we get to the November Election.

UNITE AMERICA WITH HILLARY CLINTON NOW

HILLARY SUPPORTERS LET’S MARCH ON TO VICTORY HAS WON!

HRCs comment regarding Dr. King is an outrage and should be reported on every news outlet. Her comments are reckless (if not racist) and disrespect Dr. King’s amazing contribution to lifting America to a greater good during a time that otherwise would not seem possible. LBJ just happened to be the guy in the Whitehouse and really did nothing than lifting his pen. We will always remember Dr. King as a truly amazing individual. LBJ?

What a thoughtless, foolish thing for Sen. Clinton to have said. Words mattered in 1963 and they matter now.

Hilary is so fake. She can spare us the crocodile tears cos we can all see thru her fake tears, she keeps changing her campaign theme everyday. Is she gonna run the country on opinion polls.

She was angry and yelling some nights ago at the debates, today, she is crying. How can you control the country when you can’t even control your own emotions. The bad guys of the world don’t care if you cry, they will pounce at every weakness.

OBAMA for President.

Comment by Ben

Seriously, she will do ANYTHING to win. How dare you ever use MLK to show that he wasn’t the agent of change for civil rights of this country. I bet MLK would have made one of the greatest Presidents of our time, and would have done even more for civil rights and human right in our country than any politician at that time. Unfortunately, the man was murdered by those who didn’t see the “DREAM”. Hillary, you don’t see the “DREAM” either. Either your a racist, or you are willing to piss on the grave of one of the greatest American heroes of all time to get a 2% bump in an election.

Finally, How about this Hillary… How about Kennedy? Inspiring words, young, and had to directly deal with Gov. Wallace. All three. Hillary supporters on this blog, wake up, your supporting a truly dangerous politics that the Clintons represent.

WHAT IS FOX SMOKIN :) This is exactly why WE NEED a woman president, a person that thinks with her brain.

We all want hope, and we all have hope — we are all spoil and spoil rotten compared to the rest of the world. We need action and intelligence, and Hillary has the credentials. She doesn’t blow off comments to interject candidates, only the men do this. She polite, profesisonal and proactive and pursues issues that related to humanity and solving problems.

I’ve 45 years old, single, worked 32 years (convention planner), have many married friends with children in suburbs of Chicago, and watch television often and watch many stations. Fox News and many others desensitise the nature of human behavior. Do think the families of 3000 citizens who died in 911 and another 3000 military troops who have died in the War, don’t have emotion? You are clearly kidding yourself for the benefit of your job/income, among other things. Are you that cold and evil that you don’t even see that your own emotion is gone? You are not addressing what’s important and are missing “the point”.

I recognize it is your JOB to get at the truth and find the truth, but you are so blinded by your greed for news, that you have taken something genuine and turn it into something to suit your ego and emotional void!

I am glad, very glad, Hillary showed some sign of humanity and exhaustion, given she in the Trail for 24/7. What is sick and pathetic, is all Fox News “casters” do on television as dismiss it as a planned event as strategy or included and define it as a weak candidate. How pathetic is that?

This “campaign” has many angles, and so much crap that is considered quote “strategy” but it is clearly rudeness by candidates interupting eachother like children on the debate panel — that is immature, crap and unprofessional — yet you analyze it until you get off, and condone it get your ratings up and fill airtime. It’s no wonder this Country is suffering some serious fatal problems.

We clearly need fresh air!

Fresh air? Hillary’s comments regarding Martin Luther King’s role in the civil rights movement does not hint of fresh air. Quoting Hillary Clinton “And if I get emotional about that, or if I am passionate about defending myself, I’ll let other people draw their conclusions.”
This does not promote confidence. The president needs to be secure enough in who he/she is that he/she is not worried about defending himself/herself. It sounds as if she is having a case of “poor me” again and a president does not have that privilege; at least not in public.

Hillary is really disappointing to me as a Democrat and as a woman. She divides our Democrat Party. She would divide our Country. Instead of inspiring , she attacks, gets angry, crys when she is losing….NOT Presidential. And not what our Country needs right now.

No vote for Hillary from me.

They can say bad things about Hillary but she can’t say anything about them. Go Hillary GO”. I hope John Edwards comes in 3rd and will remove him self. I think one of your particular talking points is absolutely wrong. She didn’t “appear to diminish the role Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. played” at all. Senator Clinton was shrinking Senator Obama’s lofty and melodramatic rhetoric down to actual size. At the end of the day (uising some of her words), being “able to get it through Congress” is something she’s been doing longer. Ability to inspire by the “power of dreams” is a worthy and necesary talent for all social justice leaders…”becoming reality..”..she’s only saying she thinks she can do it better than Obama can.

Jesus Christ has inspired people for over 2000 years…Moses and Abraham for much longer…. and they never had to pass a law in any Congress in order to keep us bathed in the light of faith and hope. Many believe Moses handed down law from a source beyond our human existence. Whenever a law that best forwards social justice is passed in the name of the people of this country, the law was one that was created long ago in the hearts of men and women.

There is no doubt that Rev. Dr. MLK Jr. was a man of God and an inspirer for the ages. Hillary Clinton was by no means discounting Rev. Dr. MLK Jr. by showing how his wonderful dream was put into action…and which President helped to facilitate the deam through government.
Isn’t that just a bit of as stretch to say the newest Senator of the top-tier-three is an inspirer of the ages and a JFK and an LBJ all wrapped up on one..and more capable than Clinton to get his agenda through Congress? How has he ever proven it?
If Hillary’s pointing that out, more power to her for the reality check.

Sure is strange to see people who were barely born when LBJ signed the civil rights act into law with MLK looking over his shoulder knock a woman for pointing out the obvious: that you have to have and be willing to exercise political power to change America. Cf Brown v Board of Education as well as the civil rights act. Jesse Jackson won important caucuses and primaries, and, when his campaign failed to produce the presidency or vice-presidency, he withdrew from action to rhetoric. When he could have become mayor of DC, he passed, prefering to talk rather than do. I was at those lunch counters and movie theaters in the 60s. I didn’t see Mr. Obama there. His constant attempt to attach himself to Dr. King’s legacy may play with his base, but anyone old enough to have marched in the 60s will see Mr. Obama in a different light. This election will be a conflict of generations, and, hopefully, the 18 to 30 somethings will prevail. Time for them to be disillusioned. Time for them to find out who and what the men and women they work to elect really represent. Those who do work instead of just talk, that is.

[...] intended to weave this into the post and somehow forgot: On the stump yesterday Clinton argued that LBJ was necessary to achieve the civil rights victory for which MLK (or JFK, depending on how you interpret the quote) could only grease the skids. Leaving aside the political [...]

Obama was not comparing himself to MLK or JFK
Speakers have referenced great leaders from the past for centuries.
Not a problem.

As for Barack Obama: The man has class.

NEW LONDON, N.H. — Obama said the campaigning was a “grind” when asked his reaction to hearing that Hillary Clinton had choked up at a campaign event earlier today.
“I didn’t see what happened. I know this process is a grind. So that’s not something I care to comment on,” he told reporters who threw questions at him, as he bought tea for his throat and cookies and cupcakes for the press corps.

On whether Hillary Clinton should drop out of the race, he said, “We’ve had one caucus. This would be one primary. Right now I’m just focused on tomorrow. We’ve got to get out our voters; it would be such a shame after seeing the great turnout in Iowa if we weren’t working as hard as we could to make sure that story continues.”

Obama made his comments during a retail stop at a coffee shop at Jack’s of New London, New Hampshire. The small space was crammed with reporters and local residents who applauded when the senator entered. One woman screamed upon Obama’s entrance.

OMG… It is so funny to listen to Hillary apologists…. She clearly staged this crying event… The Clintons are desperate to show her as a “human”… with real emotions.. The only emotion she has is desperation to be the president. Don’t fall for it. But enjoy watching her mindless fans write about how “mean spirited” everyone is… Lest we forget that the Clintons are the most mean spirited couple in modern history? How pathetic that the Dems can’t produce someone of substance that can stand on their own. I was a Democrat back in college… I have grown and matured since then. I think some people just take longer to evolve their intellectual capabilities and funcional thinking. Oh well. it is funny to watch.
Remove the Clintons from the poitical landscape. Vote for ABC…. “Anyone But Clinton”.

The problem with Hillary’s tears is that they were tears of self pity from a pampered self absorbed millionaire having to experience what most of us have to experience every day.

She was ‘tired’ and couldn’t ‘exercise’ every day and had to ‘eat pizza’.

This is the woman who wants to be the leader of the most powerful nation in the world/commander-in-chief - in charge of our nuclear weapons.

I’m sure most single moms with 2-3 minimum wage jobs trying to keep their families afloat know a little more about being tired than Hillary.

Most leaders’ tears come at moments of national grief, not in moments of self pity.

The really bad part was that the world’s leaders - friends and enemies - saw her meltdown

I do hope to see a woman elected President in my lifetime, but not this woman. She is setting women back 20 years.

She is a bitch, I really hate her now. First of all, Barack was not comapring himself to MLK. He was talking about the comment that SHE made at the debate about “false hopes.” He was saying that we dont need a leader telling us what we CAN’T do, we need a leader that will tell us what we CAN do. Second she has completely disrespected the work of MLK and the people that fought for civil rights. She is basically saying that a “dream” BEGINS OR ENDS WITH A PRESIDENT. She a complete idot and is not acknowleging the power of words and motivation.
Anyway, here’s the quote.

This is the entire quote on Hillary:

In an interview with Fox News Political Correspondent Major Garrett — the second in as many days — Clinton also took issue with Barack Obama’s dismissal of her claim that he represents “false hope;” Obama says that argument is like Martin Luther King standing at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington and saying “sorry guys, false hope. Even IF Hillary’s emotional moment was real, which I seriously doubt, look at what she said!

“I have so many opportunities for this country” and “I don’t want to see us fall backward”.

Both statements show what a self aborbed egomaniac she is.

This country has many opportunities for her! Maybe she has some good ideas for the country. She does not have to be president to outline those ideas and promote them. So if she isn’t elected is she going to pack her ideas up and put them under a rock?

And it appears that she believes that if she is not elected we will fall backwards. I doubt if any candidate wants to see the country fall backwards. Only Hillary can prevent that?

If it was real, she is showing her true colors. If it wasn’t real, she is showing her true colors.

I am appalled and disappointed at Hillary’s comments regarding MLK and Johnson. I think it is a disgrace for her to denegrate King’s dream by suggesting that it had no meaning or possibility unless Johnson acted. History has proven and will continue to prove which of them made the greater impact on change in America.

She also mis-states her experience when she infers that Obama has none and she has a great deal. She became a senator only four years before he did, yet she implies that her record is much longer.

As a resident of Rockland County, New York, I have been concerned about some of the “hidden” activities that she has engaged in here in pandering to the Hassidim.

How ignorant is “Florida gal”? Obama is a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago. He is not Muslim. Where do you get your information?

Hillary is more of the same, only in a dress. If she is elected we will see her doing the same things other “bought” politicians have done for decades. Most of her campaign money comes from PACS and lobbyists, that means she is bought and paid for, and those supporters will certainly be lined up with their hands out after the election should she win. People need to read between the lines and start to think for themselves. This election is too important for Americans to vote without thinking thoughts all the way through.

Electing the next President is the most important decision a Voter has to make to participate for a progress or continues downfall of America. Everyone knows, a candidate will say anything and promise all kinds of changes, plans and goals for the country just to persuade the Voters, But Once elected, and got the position and power, Those promises becomes a long range agenda. There is really no guaranty on empty promises. It seems, as it has always been, a talk of change without a platform is an easy rhetoric than doing what it stands for. I have heard Obama says a monotonous speech about a change so many times, but without mention of, reality of that change. Obama claims to change the politics, which I think, it just concerns the politicians. And Obama himself did negative campaign by slaming, out of the line creticism. There is a saying, One should not mind a persons dirt, without checking himself first for same. I think, the only way to practice a decent politics is to have a strick policy or requirements to be observed by all politicians. If peoples has been handed down with laws and regulations, Government officials should practice a well balance and respectable Institution. Our country needs a President with integrity, who can, and will deliver positive development and effective unity among the different branches of the government administration. A President, who is well informed regarding sensitive matters and with wisdom to know the difference between good judgment from impulsive actions. We the people, could not afford to make another mistake. This is our country, our home. We have to work together to save America before its to late.

I am glad to hear a sincere feelings of concern towards our country. I like the way Hillary Clinton expreses her emotions, to share her personal reasons of quest to reverse the on going negative situation of our beloved land. She spoke with fear to see our country demise, if the elected president, lacks in accepted qualification and knowledge to lead and run an almost broken administration. Hillary is responding to her conscience to do what she thinks can solve the problems of America. I also believed she has the desire and sincere intention to apply everything she could, to bring back the good status of our country. I know the American people will come to their sense and see the real Hillary Clinton. She care for our country and the people. She can direct America to the right path. I urge the others to stop cursing her. As the Bible says, a person can throw a stone to hurt somebody, if that person is pure and sinless. Just remember, nobody is perfect. Hillary Clinton is offering her service, her knowledge and intelligence, to contribute for the recovery of America. Please give a chance to serve her country, We are civilize enough to treat a candidate fairly.

I am a sister, aunt, mother, cousin, grandmother, etc. I endured the 60’s and the pain and even death of my people in the struggle for equal rights. My uncle Wayne was one of many who went to Mississippi on those freedom rides. My uncle along with others died for me to have the right to vote. I have voted in every election since the age of 18. I usually selected my candicates by the lesser of the evil method.

It is 2008, I thought I finally had real choice of great Democratic candicates. I could select from an man of great statute and a woman of equal greatness. Now, after the statement Ms. Hillary has made to down play Obama statement, it makes me very sad. Because it is just as usual I am again forced to make my choice from the lesser of the evil.

HEY RUTH Some of my best friends are African-American. I grew up in a poor white trash nieghborhood that had a lot of different colors to look at. I’m also a lot closer to Hillary’s age than Obama’s. Being a woman, I can say rather her tears were real or not, doesn’t matter. I believe she took away from MLK with her statement, and played a racial remark out of her complete tiredness on the compagned trail. She can be as human as the rest of us,good for her. But, being President is a lot more tireing than this——–Her mistakes and errors shows not only her human side—but lack of control during crisis. Where does that leave this country in crisis? I could appreciate a black President, and not even see his color, gender or religion if he’d lead this country in the right direction as did MLK/JFK did. I could appreciate a woman, my age———just not this woman who is inadequite to hold the job of President and see us through a large number of crisis faceing this country; So Mrs. Clinton can be human, and we won’t hold that against her.We will hold against her the fact she lacks the stamina needed to face crisis,Long hours of work, and ability to hold her tongue and emotions when it counts the most for our country. this is the most important Time in her life——-if she doesn’t have the stamina or be able to contain run away semotion now—————————————- Who takes over when necessary—BILL CLINTON?
