Obama returns to New Hampshire - a frontrunner?
Senator Barack Obama returned to New Hampshire after a solid victory at the Iowa caucuses early Friday morning. He held two rallies in the state, urging voters to embrace his message the way Iowa did Thursday.
“What they realized,” he said of Iowans, “was that the real gamble was to have the same old folks do the same old things, playing the same old Washington game over and over and over again and expecting different results. That’s the gamble we cannot afford. That’s the risk we cannot take. We need to turn the page and write a new chapter in American history, and New Hampshire, that’s what you can do in four day’s time.”
It is evident that Obama is seeking support from New Hampshire’s all-important Independent vote. Throughout the day, Obama touted his ability to bring Republican and Independent voters into his coalition. “If there are Republicans and Independents who are working with me, that makes us stronger and I want to change the electoral map in America. I don’t want another election like 2000 and 2004,” he said in Concord.
So how much weight is the Obama campaign putting on his Iowa victory? Obama himself told reporters en route from Iowa to New Hampshire early this morning that Iowa “sparked a potential movement for change in the country that will be inspiring for a lot of people.”
In the post-glow from the Obama victory, one of the candidate’s Iowa surrogates suggested that the candidate would fare well in the Granite State because the campaign “always” thought he was a stronger candidate there than Iowa (despite his lower poll numbers here in New Hampshire).
But an Obama supporter outside Friday’s annual Democratic 100 Club Dinner fundraiser in Milford, New Hampshire, informed me that, although she hopes Obama can pull off a victory, it seems unlikely because of the state’s views on race. She also pointed out that the state was among the last in the nation to recognize Martin Luther King Day. It wasn’t until 2000 that the state recognized the holiday.

I hope Barack Obama never does me any favors
The indictment of Rezko on federal charges (In October 2006, Rezko was indicted for alleged extortion of businesses seeking to do business with the Illinois Teachers Retirement System Board and the Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board. In addition, he has been charged with staging false transactions of his pizza stores in order to secure $10 million in loans from GE Capital.) has drawn attention to his relationship with Illinois Senator Barack Obama, and has created problems for Obama’s presidential campaign.[5][6] In November, 2006, Barack Obama drew media scrutiny because he had purchased his house in 2005, on the same day that Antoin Rezko purchased an adjoining empty lot. Obama subsequently bought from Rezko an adjoining strip of land from the empty lot. There is no evidence that Obama broke any laws or did anything improper. However, Obama acknowledges that the exchange may have created the appearance of impropriety, and stated “I consider this a mistake on my part and I regret it.”[7]
In June, 2007 the Chicago Sun-Times published a story about letters Obama had written to city and state officials in support of a low-income senior citizen development project headed by Rezko and partner Allison Davis. The project received more than $14 million in taxpayer funds, including $885,000 in development fees for Rezko and Davis. Before the Sun-Times discovered Obama’s letters in support of Rezko, Sen. Obama had told the Tribune, “I’ve never done any favors for him.” In response, Obama spokesman Bill Burton said “This wasn’t done as a favor for anyone, it was done in the interests of the people in the community who have benefited from the project. I don’t know that anyone specifically asked him to write this letter nine years ago. There was a consensus in the community about the positive impact the project would make and Obama supported it because it was going to help people in his district.” Rezko’s attorney responded that “Mr. Rezko never spoke with, nor sought a letter from, Senator Obama in connection with that project.[8] Obama had told the Sun-Times that Rezko raised “between $50,000 and $60,000″ during Obama’s political career. However, Obama has since donated all campaign contributions from Rezko to charity. I suppose he keep the intrest for himself! He keeps talking about change this sound like SOS (same old ……… stuff) to me! Obama can’t be a Democratic president because he doesn’t have a Middle initial like FDR, Harry S Truman, JFK, LBJ William Jefferson Clinton (Jimmy Cater didn’t have a middle initial that’s why he had only one term). Republicans don’t use middle Initials except for Richard M Nixon that’s why he was thrown out of office!
Obama needs a good middle initial but he has one and he doesn’t use it and I don’t blame him because it’s Hussein! He wants to bring our troops home from the war in Iraq sounds to me like the man can’t tell a war from a conflict, By the way I here the Zoo opened in Bagdad. What does he want to do pull defeat out of the jaws of victory? What a joke! Why doesn’t he go back home to his 1.6 million dollar mansion he fleeced from the tax payers of Chicago!
When you learn to proper spelling and grammar people may take you more seriously. I live in Chicago, and there’s not a soul here that thinks that Obama has ever “fleeced” them. He’s an honest, well-meaning, and trustworthy man, and he would make a great president. Of course, we all must take with a grain of salt anything said by someone who believes a middle initial is required in order to be president.
Johnathan, I would be careful calling people to task regarding grammar issues. Those who live in glass houses….
However, I agree with your point that Barack would make an excellent president. He makes me proud to be an American again.
The middle initial thing is the most bizarre thing I’ve read all day. The whole Hussein middle name is such hogwash, like that is going to affect his effectiveness as president.
Barack happens to be the most eloquent political voice in the last 40 years, and we shouldn’t waste such an opportunity for greatness when our other options are so mediocre or worse.
Wait huh? he got his house beside a guy thats been “indicted” (not charged) for charges of extortion, and even still his only relation with the guy is having bought a “STRIP” of land from him and endorsing a plan he had to build a low-income senior citizen home? Boy are you trying to dig up dirt in a bathtub or are you just SUPPOSED to sound confusing? And you also want me to believe he isn’t fit to be president because he doesn’t have a middle initial, but then you tell me he does, and that its the name of a dead rival political leader in a country we already conquered. Tell me how does one declare victory over an armed force that already conquered every part of their countries infrastructure? Why are we still in Iraq? So that the Sunni’s (the minority) don’t take over the Shite’s (the majority)? And if you even bothered to take two seconds to actually look at any of the democratic candidates withdrawal plans you will find that their “immediate” withdrawal is actually just a slow reducing of troops, none of the candidates have plans of losing the U.S.’s economic stronghold in Iraq, cause lets face it, thats the only reason we went there in the first place.
“She also pointed out that the state was among the last in the nation to recognize Martin Luther King Day.” She should have also pointed out that the MLK Birthday holiday was consistently defeated because we had a Republican controlled legislature. It was not passed until we had a Democratic Governor (Jeanne Shaheen) and sympathetic Republicans to help us pass the law.
Nepotism does not = Experience
Barack Obama for President.
It’s Time for America to Rise and Shine again.
Senator Obama will make positive history in 2008. I sense that there are many ideologues who are full of doubt, tradition, and pessimism that feel he is ‘inadequate’. There has never been a president who was fully ‘qualified’ upon assuming the role. However, Senator Obama seems to be an ideal fit for what is truly needed in the U.S. beyond the plethora of ‘fear and terror’ over the past few years. He has enormous potential. He is very intelligent, genuine, (whip sharp), an active Christian (believer) that is not an extremist, and a progressive ‘thinker’. One might say that he is a visionary.
He has diplomacy and an allegiance to our nation as a whole. His multicultural background (like my own) inspires him to embrace people from all walks of life without reservations or prejudices. His openness to the Republican Party, among others proves that he is willing to approach problems and issues in a ‘consultative’ manner as opposed to a dictatorial approach. To those who doubt what he stands for, I say visit his website and click on ‘issues’. Pessimists and people with various prejudices (not limited to age, race(s), party, etc.) should also visit the website, then ‘think’ about what truly motivates you.
By the way, I have been to the ‘region’ during conflict/war and served faithfully. Yet I would love to see my fellow brothers (troops) return home from a war based on misleading information decidedly by the ‘experts’. Hans Blix could say “I told you so”, yet we’ve spent hundreds of billions in dollars and thousands of lives lost. Senator Obama obviously uses sound judgment despite his youth and experience level.
The Clintonista’s are up to their usual not-so-subtle race-baiting and xenophobic misinformation campaign against Senator Obama.
Mr. Witt, take a look at today’s New York Times article “Supporter of Democrats Is Sentenced in California”. Another of the Clintons’ Chinese cronies and donors is sentenced to prison.
The next time you make a Made in China purchase at Wal-Mart remember this, without attaching any strings that might slow China’s growth (strings such as protecting the environment or labor and property rights to levels that are comparable to western standards), the Clinton-Gore administration supported China’s entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO) after the 1996 Clinton-Gore re-election campaign accepted illegal campaign
contributions from Chinese nationals.
Today China is not only a leading contributor to global warming (thank you very much Mr. Nobel Laureate, Al Gore), it is also pushing up oil and other commodity prices, taking our jobs and stealing our intellectual property.
China almost certainly has more dirt on the Clintons and would love to have another Clinton administration in the White House so as to advance China’s dominance even further.
Furthermore, it was the Clinton-Gore administration’s lax regulatory enforcement allowed the deceptive market practices which left us with the subprime loan crisis, Enron-like corporate scandals and the dot com bubble burst.
Shame on the Clintons for fooling us once. And shame on us if we let them fool us again.
Almost every post for Obama (so far outside this one), guess what, you cannot add comments to it!
Obama’s in the womb to under 5yrs plan is an obamination! Total disregard for Parental Rights. Reading his website, I looked at my cat and thought, “this is what it is like to cough up a hairball”
Just visiting reading the postings WOW LIKE COUGHING UP A HAIRBALL YUK!

What is the big secret about Obama that Hillary is afraid to talk about?
Rumor has it that his church only allows blacks.
Does anyone know if that is true or just blog rumor?
If that is true, shouldn’t the press be all over it…not the candidates?

OMG! wow! Someone posting a response to a blog on Foxnews.com actually aware than Barak Obama is a Christian?!?!?!?!?! Whoah. What’s next: analysis of the United Church of Christ (Obama’s denomination)? And here I expected to see more of the “Obama’s a Crypto-Muslim” crap propigated by the Clintonistas.
Who cares if he is half black, I want to know why he even wants to be president. His paternal side are not american, you would think if he wanted to do all this good and change things he would start by living in Africa and do great things there. Not to mention talk about conflict of interest.I mean Barack Hussein Obama President of the United States ,I think the U.S. would be a laughing stock to the rest of the world..
I was just asking a question ‘Amazed’.
The rumor is all over the blogs and I wanted the truth.
Reporters say the Clintons do have some dirt on Obama and they are speculating as well about what it might be.
It wasn’t an accusation…it was a question.
As far as the Clintons go…you missed the mark there. I would vote for anyone other than HC.
(so be nice okay?)

Obama is the frontrunner in NH according to the latest Rasmussen poll, 37% to Clinton’s 27%:
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/president/nh/new_hampshire_democratic_primary-194.html
On the Republican Side, Ron Paul has jumped to 14% in NH, from his 10% tally in Iowa.
Since Ron Paul got more votes than two of the candidates being allowed into Fox’s forum on Sunday, why is he being excluded?

Greta referred me to this blog. Do you ever answer questions here?
I found this link on http://www.gretawire.com
I think Barack is a breath of fresh air. I hope he chooses Richardson as his running mate. I like them both.
IF Hillary is the Democratic candidate — I’ll be campaigning for a republican…whoever it is.
Obama is definitely the frontrunner in NH, according to the latest Rasmussen poll, with 37% support compared to Clinton’s 27%.
Ron Paul’s support has jumped from the 10% vote he got in Iowa to 14% in the NH poll.
Since Paul got more support than two of the candidates included in Fox’s Sunday forum in NH, why is he being excluded? :

in response to jewel:
Obama wants to be president because he is an american citizen and it is his inherent right. He want to inspire change, which is courageous. By becoming leader of the free world, he can change america which will then allow him and us as americans to make change all over the world.
Clearly you’re overmatched in attempting to tackle this topic. If you’ve travelled outside of the U.S. as of late, you’ll find that America and our current administration are already the laughing stock.
keep up.
Polly - is there a website for polls? I’d like to see it. Thanks.

Yes, the best one is:
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/president/nh/new_hampshire_republican_primary-193.html
It shows all the polls for each state, averages them together for a combined score, and has a tracking chart to follow the ups and downs of each candidate.
I wonder if the producers on this blog every address what the posters say here?
It’s amazing how things change so quickly in politics… http://www.enewsreference.wordpress.com
I think it’s way too early to be talking about “frontrunners.” Things change from day to day at this point.
I don’t understand how Mr. Obama ever got in any government office when he refused to take the oath of office and place his left hand on the bible. Seems everyone just wants to change our country, our laws and our CONSTITUTION. What are we allowing in the name of being politically correct? Wake up AMERICA!!!
Obama will be our next President.
Hillary is history,by end of March
Edwards is history next…
Obama will be our next President.
Hillary is history,by end of March
Edwards is history next…
everyone is going to learn that Barack Obama is leading a movement and not a political campaign… http://www.enewsreference.wordpress.com
To Obama supporters who dis Hillary: is this the “change” Barack referred to in his last speech from Iowa? I don’t think so. Some of us find Hillary to be the best qualified candidate right now.
I will admit that it is difficult to be disappointed by an Obama win. As a “Clintonista”, I share most of Senator Obama’s views. Is this the how you champion our being “United”? By infighting with other Dems?
And WTF is greta?
http://messagero.wordpress.com/
An excerpt from CNN Political Ticker “Bernstein on Clinton After Iowa”
Twice, as a teenager, she went to hear Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. preach, and his effect on her was profound. When he was killed, Hillary was a student at Wellesley College. Her reaction on hearing of his death was almost a breakdown.
“I can’t stand it any more! I can’t take it,” she screamed, and threw her bookbag against the wall. She was shaking and shouting. (She subsequently led student protests at Wellesley demanding increased black admissions, and other compensatory responses.)
THIS is the woman I am supporting for President, not the imaginary evil witch about whom the neocons, and even some Obama supporters, try to hoist on the public.
I am so impressed that there was such a huge turnout of young voters in Iowa and I hope it spreads to the other states. Obama may have only been in the Senate a short time, but there was another President who was only a Senator for 2 terms before he became President…Abe Lincoln. Obama is a breath of fresh air, he hasn’t been in office long enough to owe favors, he is idealistic, and he truly believes that he can make a difference. We need a “revolution” of some kind to get this country back on the right track. Our Senate and Congress as well as our Judicial branch has become so corrupt we have no choice but to start showing up to vote and I say elect as many young idealistic smart leaders as we can. I hope we give the man at least a fair chance, he can’t possibly be any worse. One great thing about becoming President is that you have the ability to surround yourself with great cabinet. We need change, we need passion, and I am willing to give the man a chance.
Why are we all so glued to polls? We should all do a better job getting to know the real issues and each candidate’s stances on each issues. If we all educate ourselves and vote on the facts and not on anecdotes, polls and insulting ads this democracy would flourish.
http://www.yourworld101.com
You can get just the facts here and none of the fluff that are dominating most of todays discussions. Vote like you mean it.
Fox News needs to get the 1/4 Rasmussen poll data Obama 37% vs. Clinton 27% online. His numbers are not low! When you’re in first place, you’re called the frontrunner.
Before you vote, consider what America got with the first Clinton co-Presidency:
• Abuse of the powers of the office of the President
makes me doubt her capabilities.
• Granting Presidential pardons to buy Hillary’s election to the Senate. As a woman who made it on my own, Hillary’s need to ride Bill’s coattails and her sense of entitlement (as in “it’s my turn and Obama should wait his turn”
• Hillary’s long-suffering marriage to Bill, enabling a lifetime of sexual trysts and trying to contain the Bimbo eruptions, gives me a President without the backbone to stand up to a man. Hillary claims to be tough enough to play with the boys when, in fact, she is unable to leave a cheating husband. How will she stand up to other male leaders who see this in “Mrs.” Clinton and walk all over her?
• Being married to a former President does not make one qualified to be President.
Hillary has less experience in elected office than Barack. She’s held elected office for one Senate term plus one year and has introduced no major legislation during that time. She showed us in the interview about Pakistani elections the extent of her foreign policy experience–she did not know what office the election was for or who was on the ballot! Is this the kind of experience we want in the Oval Office?
I am not a “Hillary hater;” I am an America lover. Please consider very carefully which candidate the Democratic Party puts on the ballot. The future of this country absolutely depends on it.
http://www.tucc.org/about.htm
Obama’s so called Christian “church”. Looks more like a black panther site to me. Man can NOT represent the interests of all Americans if he can’t become as color blind as he wants the world to be. Scary muslim man who speaks with forked tongue.
s a law student at USC in California, I was a registered libertarian. After consideralble study re. what approaches “Utopian” political philosophy, we have concluded–Communism & Libertarianism looks good on paper , tied up in a nice bow. But there is a flaw. Both philosophies refuse to acknowledge reality; on the one hand there is a refusal to admit selfishness and greed, on the other hand is the refusal to admit Power corrupts & apsolute power corrupts absolutely. Power begets hunger for more power.
Edwards was right in calling the “big drug corporations” the enemy. Listen up. Free Entreprise if absolute is too simplistic. Free Enterprise can work if anti-monopoly, anti-trust laws were enforced. Atlas Shrugged by Rand is a great lesson in the dangers of big government, et. al. But Rupert Murdock has NOT been stopped, wouldn’t you say? The Big corporations are the Achilles heel of purist Free Enterprise. John Burcher philosophy remains rampant in Mormon church .
I think Edwards has got it right. You should recognize the flaw of too “pat” answer to USA. I am no longer a Libertarian, but neither Clinton nor “W” have leaned on the monopolies in this country. There are too many loop holes. . . just like the IRS
OBAMA IS CATHOLIC.
Hi, Greta sent me here. Great blog!
Obama has been in the US Senate for two years not two terms. Half that time has been spent running for president. He hasn’t even run for reelection yet. He’s attractive, likeable, and well spoken. Most people see what they want to see in him. You can tell by the comments here, not many people know what he actually stands for. He is a populist, a darling of the under 30 crowd, people who don’t vote and don’t have any money. He is a product of the press. They wanted a black candidate so they found one, pushed him out there, and he took off. Harold Ford, Jr. was on the cover of Time right before the ‘06 elections. If he had won his seat he would have been the candidate, not Obama. Ford is a moderate Democrat. Obama is left of Clinton. When people figure that out they won’t continue to support him.
Obama’s church has not gotten any scrutiny because anyone who talks about it is called a racist. His pastor is a black separatist. His wife is a black separatist. They believe in reparation for slavery. She has said her husband could get shot just going to the gas station because he is black. In Hawaii? He didn’t grow up on the streets of Detroit for crying out loud!
Let us talk about National Security. Outside of being elected by many tricked Americans he would never be able to hold the required security clearance. How can we except to improve our National Security if the man in charge would not be able to hold a clearance outside of an elected office. Maybe we should just let all past cocaine users work for the FBI, Secret Service, and every other aspect of our security.
The person who replied that Barack Hussein Obama is a breath of fresh air is NUTS!!!!!
Our family will never vote to elect him as our President!! Anybody but him!
He needs some education on humanity!!!!
