Giuliani counting the ways to get some media attention

Somersworth, NH — Asked whether he was worried about his lack of media coverage Wednesday afternoon, Rudy Giuliani grinned and turned the question around like he knew something we didn’t. Well, he did.

Amid headlines in recent weeks that his strategy is flailing, and with the media focused on the Iowa caucuses where he remains uncompetitive, Rudy Giuliani said, “we’re doing ok,” after literally counting out eight television cameras at the small press conference at an eastern New Hampshire diner.

We found out only minutes later why he may have reason to believe he may be getting some media attention in the coming days.

Less than an hour after the media availability ended, the campaign sent out a press release informing us of their newest ad, “Ready,” which contains graphic images of terrorist attacks, explosions and Islamic extremists—sure to provoke some conversation about Rudy’s topic of choice. The TV spot, set to run in New Hampshire, Florida and nationally on Fox News Channel, comes on the heels of their first terrorism-related ad last week that came out with little notice because former Pakistani Prime Minister Bhutto was assassinated on the same day of the release. With the ultra-competitive Iowa caucuses set for Thursday night and Giuliani campaigning in faraway Miami, it remains to be seen if Rudy or the ad get some free airtime.

Script after jump

Script for “Ready”:

VOICEOVER: “An enemy without borders. Hate without boundaries. A people perverted. A religion betrayed. A nuclear power in chaos. Madmen bent on creating it. Leaders assassinated. Democracy attacked. And Osama bin Laden still making threats. In a world where the next crisis is a moment away… America needs a leader who’s ready.”

MAYOR GIULIANI: “I’m Rudy Giuliani and I approved this message.”

I enjoy reading your posts!

Longer video clips! Rudy will be the next prez, so enjoy your time following him document everything, and maybe you could make a movie like “Journeys with George.” Watch that for inspiration if you haven’t seen it already.

An important point about him being out of the spotlight is that all the other candidates are killing each other without Rudy spending a penny:
McCain is pointing out the flaws and flip-flops of Mitt, Mitt is reminding us why we already rejected McCain and how Huck is a lib, and Huck is running Christmas ads which turns off the rest of the country.

By the time they get to Florida, even if they have made it, they will all be very weak. And were weak candidates to begin with.

This guy is nuts!

Was he not looking around for the first 5 years of Bush presidency?

The tactic of scaring people is just not going to work anymore. People will see through this. At least i hope so.

I’m confused.
If Rudy was such a threat to terroists then why did they pick his state to attack? He is only known for his tough stance because he was lucky enough to live through it. Not preven it.

Leonard, you 9/11 truther, a mayor is never a threat to terrorists because he doesn’t control the CIA, state department, FBI or military. A prez is a different story.

The point of the video is to remind the GOP that we need a war president — in other words, go home Huck and Mitt…

Rudy needs the field to thin out. In any case, a 4-way debate is much better than a 9-way debate, which is what the last one was!!

Um, what exactly is Rudy ready for? His next photo opp? His next Yankees game? His next divorce?

His whole campaign is built around his 9/11 “hero” role. Right place, right time. Way to profit off of thousands of people’s loss. Give me a break.

If Giuliani is our great protector from terrorists, why is his security firm signing lucrative contracts with the emirate of Qatar? Wasn’t Khalid Sheikh Mohammed given safe haven in Qatar, along with other al-Qaida terrorists? OOOOh, now it’s really getting scary.

Mav, you clearly know nothing about his decades of public service and his many, many accomplishments. Have you ever visited NYC?

Shirlee: You know lots of facts, just not the important ones. Rudy discussed this issue on Meet the Press. Is that all you know about Qatar — KSM and Rudy? Who feeds you these half-truths?

To quote Richard Brookhiser:

A final tack of [Giuliani opponents] is to borrow a leaf from the Village Voice reporter Wayne Barrett and nitpick Giuliani’s accomplishments. The radios of the FDNY and the NYPD were not compatible; the drop in crime actually began slightly under David Dinkins. All I can say briefly is enjoy your new friend; you will spend many hours looking at molehills.

Mav, I’m guessing you are a party line voter and would bash any republican candidate.
