Obama event attracts Superman and newlyweds
Iowa’s second most famous young actor, Brandon Routh (Ashton Kutcher’s gotta be number one), came out to Indianola, Iowa, Sunday to support Barack Obama. Routh, for those who are wondering, is the latest actor to portray the Superman character on the big screen.
Alas, Routh delivered no Superman puns (I was hoping for a “Obama is Hillary Clinton’s kryptonite,” but no such luck), and the actor’s speech was less than inspiring. Much of his five-minute introduction was based on the talking points that the campaign hands out to every person who has the honor of introducing the candidate.
Routh did score points when he went off script - he joked that those too young to caucus, arguably his fan base, could help Obama on to victory. “You,” he said, “can babysit.” He also got a laugh when he told the several hundred-strong crowd that he and his new wife, also on stage, were “honeymooning for Obama.”
I spoke to Routh after the event - here’s why he’s supporting Obama…and how he really feels about spending his honeymoon in Iowa. In December.

Marilyn still had her wedding dress on and, of course, got the attention of the press corps covering the event (hey, when you have no access to the candidate, you’re forced to get creative). Here’s what the happy couple had to say:
