Rudy pulling his punches….for now

Indianola, IA — While his rivals accuse one another of dishonesty and lambaste one another’s records, Rudy Giuliani is attempting to stay above the fray, saying he will not attack his fellow GOP contenders.

“I’d rather stay away from criticism of other Republicans. Our objective is to beat the Democrats and the less we criticize eachother, the better position we’re gonna be in to beat the Democrats,” he said after a quick stop at an Indianola bakery. “”It seems to me we got so many issues to talk about in which we can distinguish ourselves, our different experiences, our different backgrounds, and give the voters a chance to decide.”

Giuliani is essentially bypassing the Iowa caucuses in lieu of a national strategy that focuses on later primaries in Florida and bigger states, enabling the former NYC mayor to stay out of the current intraparty squabble taking place between John McCain, Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee in Iowa and New Hampshire. In fact, Giuliani aides see a benefit to allowing the GOP civil war to continue for the next four weeks because it allows Rudy to play the uniter-in-chief when the Sunshine State primary rolls around January 29. On the downside, it leaves Giuliani out of the largely conflict-driven news cycle.

Though we should note that Giuliani was now following his kumbaya message recently as last month, when he and Romney went back and forth for weeks on one another’s records on crime and immigration.

Ron Paul will be excluded from an upcoming forum of Republican candidates to be broadcast by Fox News on January 6, 2008.

“Given Ron Paul’s support in New Hampshire and his recent historic fundraising success, it is outrageous that Dr. Paul would be excluded,” said Ron Paul 2008 campaign chairman Kent Snyder. “Dr. Paul has consistently polled higher in New Hampshire than some of the other candidates who have been invited.”

Snyder continued, “Paul supporters should know that we are continuing to make inquiries with Fox News as to why they have apparently excluded Dr. Paul from this event.”

MY FEEDBACK TO FOX: If I, as a Fox News viewer have to choose my support for either Ron Paul or your Network, I choose Dr. Ron Paul. You should seriously reconsider this ratings-disaster: 1.Angry Netfolk like me, but more net-savy
2. Competing Newsmedia will have access to the repercussions of this Official Ron Paul news release
3. People remember being lied to much longer than a presidential campaign leads to switching the channel to CNN with the lock…on.

The thing is, Ron Paul has zero chance of winning the Republican primary, and having so many people means that each person talks for 10 minutes, which is hardly enough to credibly compare the candidates.

Ron Paul has maxed out his support base at a steady 4%. All the other candidates are growing or shrinking, but Ron is staying fixed.

I hope that Duncan Hunter will be excluded as well. It seems to me that if you can’t get 10% nationwide at this late stage, you are not a serious candidate for the nomination. As it is, I think that having 5 people in a debate is too many. I would like to boil it down to 2 or 3!!
