Huckabee Hits Romney as “Dishonest”, Points to Negative Ads, Links to Club for Growth

Pella, Iowa-

Governor Huckabee took an indirect shot at his rival Mitt Romney, who has been shelling both Huckabee and John McCain with negative ads, or as the Romney campaign calls them ” contrast” ads, on both flanks.  Huckabee was asked if he planned on going “negative” to counter these ads against him. Huckabee said he didn’t plan on going negative, but wanted to show that a “positive campaign works”.

However, Huck then then dropped the hammer with this phrase:

” If you are dishonest in getting the job, then you’ll be dishonest in carrying the job. I think that’s what is at risk here,”he said, alluding to Romney, but never specifically naming him.

Huckabee also discussed  a link between donors of the anti-Huckabee group the Club for Growth( who have also been running negative ads on Huckabee in Iowa) and donors to his opponents.

According to previous discussions with the campaign, there was no question that, by “opponents”, Huckabee meant Romney.

Romney Campaign Responds

Per Kevin Madden, Romney Campaign Spokesman:

“These contrast messages are substantive, they are relevant to the political discussion, and they are  backed up by the long list ofverifiable facts. Mike Huckabee’s record , his wrong-headed immigration policies are his and his alone. He has yet to offer one refutation of any of the facts about his poor record. “

I don’t have any particular disdain for Mike Huckabee or John McCain - in fact, as I posted to another article, I would probably vote for McCain as a default candidate to Mitt Romney. HOWEVER, it is ridiculous how Huckabee and McCain quickly denounce everything that escapes Romney’s lips as an attack. I’ve noted several times in recent interviews that neither Huckabee nor McCain seem to deny much of what Romney points out, they just merely start chippin’ their teeth with “attack” this and “negative” that. I guess it’s a lot easier to simply yell “attack” then to confront what Mr. Romney seems to be simply pointing out the public.

Heaven forbid we as voters get a glimpse of the difference between these candidates. . .

Good for Huckabee, if slick Mitt would spend more time talking about his policies or his accomplishments there wouldn’t be a need for Governor Huckabee or Senator McCain to ever have to talk about Mitt Romney. It is painfully obvious that slick Mitt is still up to his sleazy tactics, I guess his thinking is that if the first two ad’s didn’t work that this last one will. Mitt Romney is a man that has no creditability, so he spends all of his time attacking his fellow candidates.

Derek- Mitt is discussing his reocord- watch the ad…..he compares his record to Hucksters. typical huckabee supporter just blah blah without the truth.

Since when is the truth Negative. Mitt has the facts that back up his ad. WHy do you think Huck will not refute the facts…….instead he name calls and cries mud! The truth is stinging Huck and name calling is his only recourse. Otherwise he would come out with FACTS to support his record.

Google Cato report card and you will see all of Romneys facts are true.

Romney is only showing voters that are too lazy or do not have the opp to get the info them selves the facts and differences between a liberal Huckabee and a conservative Romney!

Why do some feel compelled to attack others?

If you think on a very basic level of human psychology, people are more likely to attack to either deflect attention off themselves or to try and make themselves appear better than they really are. This is Mitt to a fault! Example….Huckabee’s 10 year vs Romney’s 2 1/2 year Meth penalties that come out in Romney Ad trying to make Huckabee into weak on crime Governor. But people, it’s really Romney mucking with the numbers. Why? Because he doesn’t really like his own past record.

Only if the rules of the the courts applied: To ‘Tell the Truth, the Whole Truth, and Nothing But the Truth.’

Thank goodness people are noticing who these lying and venomous assaults are coming from…Mitt Romney.

“He has yet to offer one refutation of any of the facts about his poor record.”
Are you kidding me Mr. Madden? All of the assaults have been point by point scrutinized by Mike Huckabee himself, and even FactCheck via a NewsWeek article. You’re campaign and others are masters of taking things out of context and circumstances. You then state things as “fact” that aren’t. The above quote for example, or even another one in which you said that Romney is the only candidate competitive in the early states. Um, last time I checked Huckabee was leading you in pretty much all the early states but NH and was certainly competitive in all of them.

Truth is, per capita spending in Mass is higher than in Arkansas and the per capita tax burden went up faster in Mitt’s MA than in Huck’s AR.
Huckabee is the fiscal conservative in this race, and I don’t just say that because of his support for the FairTax, which Mitt doesn’t have a clue about.
Huckabee is the real fiscal conservative who didn’t just become a Republican and didn’t run from Reagan and say “I’m not trying to go back to Reagan/Bush”.
Romney is simply hiding the fact he has no core principles and is spending more time demonizing everyone else rather than talking about himself…which is hard to do when you’ve taken the opposite position so many times.
Truth is Mitt has core negative ratings approaching that of Hillary and will be completely unelectable.
Go Mike!!!

Why don’t people get that all of this is completely irrelevant. Mitt is the only one who will be capable of winning the general election. The various reasons behind this truth would fill up too many pages in blog to expound. I invite anyone doubting this to please revisit this blog in November after Huck or McCain get STEAMROLLED by the dems.

Anyone here defending Huckabee as a presidential candidate is actually defending Hillary.

When are Huckabee and McCain supporters going to finally realize what most of us can CLEARLY see: They are U.N.E.L.E.C.T.A.B.L.E. Period.

Stop supporting Huckabee, your Huck/McCain primary votes are going to put Hillary and Obama in office. Seriously, just vote for Hillary now and save us time.

Follow up to my previos comment:

I said I would not expound on the MANY reason they are unelectable.

Can’t resist. Here are a few revealing ones:
Why did the Concord Monitor Newspaper attack Mitt Romney so ruthlessly? These people are as liberal Democratic as they come. What about Romney scares them enough to lash out like that? Hmmmm….It sounds like these Hillary lovers really want Huck to be the nominee in November. I wonder WHY?

Rush Limbaugh. The guy lives and breathes for the Republican party. He’s spent his career defending and promoting the GOP, through thick and thin. I wonder why he has come out so vocally AGAINST Huckabee??? Hmmm…He’s obviously protecting his beloved GOP from something….Could it be ignorant Huckabee supporters who don’t understand that Mike Huckabee will NEVER be elected by the general population outside of the Bible Belt. Rush knows it, so shuld Huckabee supporters.

Can you sense the frustration level?

Here is one more thought to keep you up at night (no, it’s not Huck sitting across a table from Ahmadinejad). The supreme court is ONE judge away from overturning Roe v Wade. Romney will appoint a pro-lifer, Hillary Won’t. Given that Huck/McCain can’t win, it appears that most evangelicals are really in favor of abortion. Think about it.
