Fred $$ woes
The Fred Thompson campaign has been repeatedly emailing supporters during the last week asking for cash to keep their new ad, “Substance,” on the air in Iowa. The lastest email asks for a mere $57,305….ouch.
EMAIL BELOW:
Dear #####,
I spoke with Fred this morning and informed him that we are placing the first part of our Iowa TV buy today.
But I also told him we are still about $57,305 short of our Red Truck Challenge goal.
That additional funding is critical so that we can make the rest of the buy.
Can you help us out?
Fred sends a message of his own to you -take a look.
Fred’s bus tour in Iowa is working: the crowds are good and momentum is building. I know we are poised to make a strong run next week…
The additional media will give us the extra push that we need.
In the last two hours, 460 of you have contributed to bring us $29,000 closer. We now need 1400 of you to make a $40 contribution.
Our ground game is strong and Fred is hot–with the right air cover we can make it happen.
You are a valuable part of this team. We need your help. Can we count on you?
Thank you and keep up the great work.
Sincerely,
Bill
William B. Lacy
Campaign Manager

It’s refreshing to see a candidate that not focused on raising millions of dollars — he cares more about the issues. Fred is the clear choice to be President in 2008.
Here Fox goes again…….. Jumping the gun and making it sound like Fred is in trouble….. Oh, Fred has money woes…. Oh, Fred is having to ask his supporters for help…. Well Mosheh, at this writing, he has not only made his goal, but exceeded it. Fred is clearly the only real conservative in this race. As more people see the back-biting eye-gouging infighting that goes on with the other candidates, and their true colors begin to show, they’re going to steadily turn toward this candidate, and realize that he is the one we need in the White House. We need a strong steady hand, not some glitzy, glib, slick talking RINO!
The Best Republican Presidential Candidate for 2008
Former Senator Fred Thompson is the only real conservative in the race for the Republican nomination, and the only candidate who can unite all three pillars of the Republican Party, namely, fiscal conservatives; national security and defense conservatives; and religious conservatives.
The Republican party, given that the nation is divided, cannot afford to alienate any of these pillars, or they will lose in the general election, as a sufficient number of the alienated pillar’s constituents will simply not cast a vote for president when they vote. This is not an attempt to intimidate Republican voters, but merely a recognition that there are certain conservative voters who simply will not violate their own principles and vote for someone they have fundamental disagreements with, or do not trust. For example, Governor Romney, has not provided a satisfactory answer in the minds of many religious conservatives in his efforts to explain the change from pro-choice to pro-life. They want to know the motivation, and need to be convinced that it was not political. This matter remains unresolved, and thus alienates a proportion of religious conservatives who would otherwise support him as the party’s nominee - regardless of his own religious persuasion. Mayor Guiliani also has a similar problem with religious conservatives, given his personal position on abortion; and promising to appoint strict constructionist judges will not vitiate the conflict with pro-life constituents. Religious conservatives will not vote for a pro-choice Republican nominee - even if it means electing Senator Clinton president. They will not violate a moral conviction. They will simply adopt the attitude - God’s will be done, and maintain their conviction. Governor Huckabee alienates fiscal conservatives as a result of his tax and spend policies during his tenure in Arkansas. Senator McCain, terminally severed his relationship with a proportion of national security conservatives through his aggressive support of the proposed comprehensive immigration agreement, which failed as a result of a citizens’ uprising against this legislation; his opposition to the tax cut policy of the Bush Administration; and his opposition to aggressive interrogation techniques on high value captured terrorists.
Senator Thompson has none of the foregoing problems. He is strong on defense of the nation during a time of war, and has already committed to a substantial increase in the size of our military to fight the enemy threatening our survival; will seal the border, and reverse illegal immigration through attrition; will maintain the current tax policy, and reduce taxes by instituting his proposed voluntary flat tax system with only two rates, one at 10% with no deductions; and the other 25% maximum with current deductions maintained. He will also lower the corporate tax rate to ensure US Corporations are operating at the same tax rates as foreign corporations. Moreover, Mr. Thompson is the only candidate to assemble a plan to address the impending social security system crisis - the “third rail” of American politics. The Senator is acceptable to religious conservatives as well, given his strong and long-standing pro-life position, which explains why he was endorsed by the National Right to Life organization, and many similar state organizations.
As to the “fire in the belly” complaint, which is preferable: “Fire in the belly?” or the following leadership characteristics? Personal integrity; moral conviction; courage; perseverance; boldness; humility; analytical intelligence; calm and deliberate disposition; decisiveness; understands historical context and timing; commitment; and vision. In short, the Senator will show more than adequate “fire in the belly” when he demonstrates to those attempting to destroy our beloved nation a backbone of iron and the fury of an adversary who will unleash a conflagration, if necessary, to preserve our sacred liberty. One must guard against being deceived by cliché terms such as “fire in the belly,” in the middle of a media driven political campaign, when there are substantially more important, and higher priority characteristics needed in the President of the United States, and leader of the free world.
For Republicans to win the White House, they must be united and have a large voter turnout among all three of their voting pillars, that is fiscal conservatives; national security conservatives; and religious conservatives. Senator Thompson, is the only candidate not alienating any of these voting pillars, and thus can galvanize their support. Accordingly, he is the best hope for Republicans in the 2008 national election. Indeed Senator Thompson can win the general election, and rest assured the other party knows it for the same reasons articulated herein; to wit: he unites the Republican constituencies and assures a large conservative voter turnout in the 2008 election.
OK. Now this time I have about had it with these rediculous MSN pukes. I gave Fred money. I like to give Fred money. I do not mind Fred asking me for money. I will give Fred money whenever he needs it. Now shut up and stick it where the sun don’t shine!
Fred is the man. The rest are all RINO’s. Fox already picked the one they want to support.
The author of this article completely missed the point. The Thompson campaign had set a goal to raised $250,000 through online donations in two days. The email above is asking for the remaining $57,305 after approx. $200,000 had already been raised. The online donations came through $262,504 in just 2 days from online donations. The extra money will be used to increase the ad buy in Iowa. The latest polls show Thompson surging to a strong 3rd place in Iowa with 15% of the vote.
Mosheh Oinounou didn’t even take the time to spend 3 minutes researching the story before writing about it. Don’t you learn that in the first week of journalism school.
$262,500 in the two days is actually a very impressive haul considering it was the 2 days after Christmas when everyone is broke.
Fair and balanced?
Let’s see…Fred Thompson is running a campaign for President and is asking for donations…how unusual? How many other candidates are asking for money?
As someone said above, Fred’s campaign set a two day goal and his supporters reached it and then some. Instead of saying something about how his supporters rallied and came through, we get a story that ends with the word “ouch.”
I just read the grapevine report where you all patted yourselves on the back for being found to be the “most fair and balanced in your political reporting.” Let’s face it guys, that only means you had to do a “little” better than the rest of the MSM…and that’s about all the better you are doing. Thus far I’ve seen two negative stories on Fred today. Are you using Fred as your counterweight for the positive stories for the rest of them??
Great statements by Jim and Seth, thank you! And, SheetAnchor, wow!!! You hit the nail on the head in every respect regarding Senator Thompson’s character traits and stance on the issues versus those of some of his rivals. Also, your point on the importance of uniting the three Republican pillars was right on target. VERY well said!!! Thank you very much for your thoughtful words.
Having said that, I hope you are incorrect in your synopsis of the religious conservative pillar opting to allow a Clinton presidency in lieu of voting for a Republican nominee who has not taken a pro-life stance. But, I will concede that this is definitely possible, and that you could very well be a prophetic voice on this point. I consider myself a part of all three of the pillars you described, but as much as it depends on me, I know I could not allow, at this serious time in our country, a wrong-on-every-issue nominee like Clinton to take over the White House. Thankfully, with Fred Dalton Thompson as the Republican nominee, I seriously believe that Clinton will certainly not prevail.
Congratulations to the supporters of Fred Thompson, and to Senator Thompson, for reaching their financial goal today! That is awesome!
Wow. This is getting pathetic. Fox is supposed to be “fair and balanced,” but fact checking and research never seem to enter into the equation anymore. How about you change your slogan to “hack and spin?”
You continue to miss the mark on Senator Thompson and continue to show your true colors…yellow.
Best,
Derrel
Let me get this straight. Fred Thompson is running for office and has asked his supporters to contribute. Even though it is the holiday season and money is tight we raised over the amount asked for and was proud of our accomplishment. Now somehow this is a bad thing? Excuse me Mosheh for saying this but your bias is showing!
This is almost as bad as the way Fox has Dick Morris on TV to low-ball both Thompson and McCain while he pimps for Huckabee.
Cutting-and-pasting a fundraising letter, simply because it asks for money, seems like an odd thing to report. It makes it sound as if Fred is the only candidate who asks his supporters for money to run the campaign on. Anyone who knows anything about fundraising knows that, in addition to long-term overall goals, you set short-term, smaller goals that your supporters can more easily visualize, and are more likely to respond to. That’s most likely what this Iowa media buy is.
You people at RINO News Network are very stupid. You don’t have a clue what is going on with this. Go get a life.
Keep an eye on your fat, lazy hack, Dick Morris, he could choke on a sandwhich while pimping for another worthless Arkansas dunce.
re: “$262,500 in the two days is actually a very impressive haul considering it was the 2 days after Christmas when everyone is broke.”
“A very impressive haul”???
For most of us, it looks pretty pale next to Ron Paul’s supporters raising him $10 MILLION in 48 hours.
Many of Ron Paul’s supporters are obviously young college students with new credit cards that they don’t know what to do with…
That said, I do have much respect for Dr. Paul, and I agree with him on a majority of issues. National security, however, is not one of them. We cannot have a protectionist nation while, like it or not, we are involved in a global war.
Fred Thompson can and will unite this Republican party!! If Ron Paul’s supporters dig deep, I’m sure that they’ll even see things about Senator Thompson that they can agree with.
I want President Thompson sitting across the table negotiating with our enemies!! He will be taken seriously. He will not make jokes with an enemy. He does not mind respectfully disagreeing with someone. He will not say anything just to make the uncomfortable silence go away.
Fred takes control with reporters, and everyone else he has contact with. He has been consistant on every conservative issue for 30+ years.
As a nation, we need Fred Dalton Thompson as our next president!!!
Since when does running a campaign not cost money? So what if Fred Thompson asked for donations so do all the rest. Or maybe your buddy, Rudy, doesn’t have to collect money. He gets free campaigning from you. The more you put Fred down the more I will support him. He is truly the only conservative and will be a fantastic President. Maybe the fairness doctrine ought to be put back into law. Then the people can hear the truth at least half the time.
Why in the world are you making a big deal of Fred’s red truck for us Fredheads? We support our candidate like others support theirs but this made it more interesting! Can you go to any candidate’s site and not find something to encourage a donation? Is Fred unique in asking for one? The obvious answer is no. But since you cannot find any real issues with Fred you dig deep for something bad to say… and this is all you can find. While Mitt, Rudy and Mike all have real garbage reported on them all you ever see about Fred is putdowns…made up ones about him not wanting to be president bad enough, being old (not older than many of the others) or lazy. He has a accomplished an unusual amount in his lifetime for such a lazy fellow. We Fredheads begged for him to run because there was no one out there worth voting for. We are proud of Fred and the way he is running his campaign. We are proud you can’t find any of the issues that plague all the other candidates. He is running because he believes he can make a difference in this nation. He will bring strong conservative leadership that will effect generations to come. He will save social security and not allow our country to go bankrupt, securing the economy. He will give us a strong military and secured borders.
Just another example of Fred Thompson’s honest and direct way - the canpaign needed funds for a new ad to run - He let us know the amount that was needed and we gladly gave what we could. Those of us who could not give money at this time did whatever else we could do to help in the campaign, made calls etc. We do it because we want Fred Thompson to lead our country as our next President.
Do the other candidates ask for campaign donations? Why don’t we hear about it from you? Why do you seem to be putting such a negative spin on something so basic to any campaign as raising funds?
When I look around at the field of candidates, I see a wealth of material for fault-finding. The stunning stupidity of one candidate who didn’t even know martial law had been lifted several days ago in Pakistan as one example, the same candidate who tried to impress the NRA with his duckhunting abilities and committed the unpardonable sin of firing a shotgun over the heads of the reporters present. No self-respecting hunter EVER does that.
Knock it off, please.
A candidate asking for donations! What a major news story. I used to like FOX, but it seems that it has gone the way of MSM. With “friends” like this, who needs enemies. I know FOX hates Thompson, but he is the ONLY candidate that can beat the Democrats! Hands Down!
Back again to say I think the so-called “reporter” needs to go back to journalism school. I’m a registered nurse. How would you at Fox like it if I didn’t fully research your case before I administered your treatment? If I was as unethical or careless as you are I would be sued. You should be.
Fox made a big deal about an impartial report that found Fox to be 50% positive & 50% negative for each of the two parties.
Okay. But what you neglected to mention is that, of the positive reports on Republicans, most of them were positive about Giuliani or McCain. Of the negative reports on Republicans, almost all of them were trashing Fred Thompson!
So, 50/50 fair & balanced between the two parties, but no way in hell are you 50/50 fair & balanced between the Republican candidates. You know it and so does every Fox viewer (perhaps I should say FORMER Fox viewer, because you have certainly lost a lot of us because of your obvious bias against Fred).
How do you hacks get money woes out of a fundraiser ????? just keep it up you might lose a few more viewers RINOs
Sorry this is the hack I was reffering to Mosheh Oinounou Fred more than hit his targeted goal so now i guess he has too much money yea FAUX NEWS is fair and balanced !! NOT!
Fred Thompson will prove the polls pundits MSM and RINOs wrong !!
……I was going to write a long solid piece here about the inept reporting here. But I’m so disappointed in FOX NEWS by allowing such a bias, ill written NON-FACT CHECKED story that I’m going to speak with my wallet.
Starting today I am writing the major advertisers on FOX NEWS and telling them I am going to avoid there product or service [and WHY] and I’m telling my family and friends to do the same. I will also be commenting to my clients about how poorly FOX NEWS and it’s advertisers treat good honest people.
STAND TALL
Grant
I’m going to have to agree with everyone else on this one. Poor job on this one, Fox.
Yea, but Fox are not the only ones. ABC,CNN and the others are the same.
Each of those networks “reports” supposed news without checking facts, without getting different opinions. Last I checked, not one of the Thompson supporters on the ground have been interviewed as of now.
The least each of those networks can do is visit the official website at http://fred08.com before posting false
I sent in my donation to Fred. It is beyond me why Fox and CNN chose to ignore him.
Go Fred
I have just finished reading everyone’s comments and I couldn’t agree more - what truly concerns me, though, is that our voices are not being heard and a large number of voters don’t have a clue what a truly great president Fred Thompson would be. Unfortunately, since he has received little to no (positive) media attention, he is seen by many as a laid-back, uninspired, good ole’ country boy. When he is asked a question (which is hardly ever!) at these (laughable) debates, he’s the only one who answers directly, providing clear and very specific details of his position and/or solution to the issue at hand.
I have never paid much attention to the political process or politicians in general (I know, shame on me), but I have become so concerned and enraged at the deplorable condition we, as a country, are currently in (the economy, unemployment, the “war” we created, the housing market “woes” (oh, don’t get me started on that!!) and my real HOT BUTTON, immigration!) that I made it my mission in life to learn as much as I can about each of the candidates, Republican or Democrat, because I needed to find the one candidate who I believed could reverse this frightening downward spiral we find ourselves in and get us back on track. In that quest, I have read (most) every article, watched every debate (again, what a joke! - they lack such substance!!!) and perused every candidate’s website to learn what they each stand for, hoping to find the one person who, indeed, cares enough about all American’s and the ideals and beliefs our country was founded on, to lead us back to where morals, values, integrity and honor are, once again, the foundation of our existence. Fred Thompson is that man!
My question is, without any (or, at best, limited) positive and/or informational media attention, where do we go from here? My greatest fear is that I will have to write his name on the ballot! That would be such a tragedy…
Yes I’m pissed off about fox so-called news coverage. Fred is the only conservative and the only one who will get my vote. One always asks for money when one runs for president. Since when is that news. Also, I receive those requests and I never got this one. ?????
