Subliminal Cross in New Xmas Ad? Its Only a Bookcase, Says Huck
Houston, TX-
Blowing up in the blogosphere today were allegations of a subliminal image, a cross, in the background of Mike Huckabee’s new “What Really Matters ” ad. Some bloggers, and political observers, see the image in the ad as an appeal, or clandestine wink, to Evangelicals, a prominent GOP base that Huckabee has been successfully courting in his surging campaign. One of his opponents, Ron Paul, said the purported image goes too far.
“It reminds me of what Sinclair Lewis once said. He says, ‘when fascism comes to this country, it will be wrapped in the flag, carrying a cross,’ ” Paul told Fox News. “Now I don’t know whether that’s a fair assessment or not, but you wonder about using a cross, like he is the only Christian.”
Huckabee’s New Ad
Fox News caught up with Governor Huckabee while he took a fundraising tour through Texas today, and asked him about his new ad.
“It’s a bookshelf. It’s nothing more than a book shelf,” Huckabee responded, chuckling in disbelief.” All the people that are reading something into it, have made us all laugh out loud…insane.”

People are grasping at straws. This is ridiculous. If it is subliminal, how come it is sticking out in plain site. It looks like a window pane to me.
Thank you for mentioning Ron Paul on your website- even if its only to misrepresent his statement- the kind of people who actually get out and vote will sort it all out. As for the cross- I have no problem with showing a not so subliminal cross in a Christmas ad- MY problem is that he LIED about it - he shoulda just said “meh…Im a Christian…made a neat-o effect with some lighting- deal with it”…but no…he denies its there and even compares anyone who sees it with the kind of people who hear “paul is dead” when Beatles albums are played backwards. The average person knows that nothing in a political ad is “by chance” - his dishonesty in the matter is very telling of what voters can expect from a Huckabee presidency.
How silly we have become. And just think, there’s 10 1/2 months more of this insanity.
Huckabee is appearing to be a good candidate. The media is turning it into a religous race and that is right. Faith is important to many people including myself. I am glad he is getting some media seeing how he is broke up against the wealthier candidates.
If Governor Huckabee wants to capture the Christian population in America, he needs to take a firm stand behind his faith and stop hiding behind some subliminal message. Every one Jesus called, He called openly. Come on, Mr. Huckabee, take a stand or get out of the way!
Iowa is an inspiring state as “First in the Nation” in their development of renewable energy resources, technological advances, and the political nomination process. However, the main stream media is helping to draw negative attention to the citizens by highlighting what appears to be a fragmentation of the GOP’s values/faith base by deciding a nominee based upon church affiliation. The secular-progressives want to see the Republican nominee fail regardless, but they want Romney to lose BECAUSE of his faith and they want to see Huckabee win in Iowa BECAUSE of his faith. They want to convince the nation that Iowans have turned away from all of the core elements of GOP strength (fiscal, foreign policy, values) BECAUSE of faith or bigotry aimed at Romney. They have seen the organization, the policies, and support for Romney bring together all the elements that have defeated Democrats so many times in the past and they have identified how to stop him, give Clinton or Obama the win, and make Iowa GOP voters look intolerant all at once.
This upcoming Caucus has two potential outcomes, but the media is just desperate to run the following headline, “Huckabee wins Iowa, evangelical base chooses their own and rejects Romney.” The Democrats will have already crowned their nominee as the next President at this point. I have enjoyed Huckabee’s speeches and funny one-liners, but I realized just recently why the media has grown so feverish about his poll numbers in Iowa. They want McCain to win in New Hampshire, Huckabee in Iowa, Giuliani in Florida, and Mitt in Michigan so that we never coalesce around one solid candidate and lose the general election because we are fighting with ourselves on issues of faith, immigration, and taxes.
I want Iowa to support Mitt Romney, because I believe in his ability to unite all conservatives just as he did during his faith in America speech. Will Iowa prove the media wrong and deal a blow to the growing hatred towards all people of faith? January 3rd will be a very important day for us.
Beyond the fact that Huckabee was a preacher, or that he might believe in your flavor of religion, what is he? Someone who fought to keep sales tax on food, increased government largess and taxes, increased government spending and programs, fought for scholarships for adult illegal aliens and pardoned murderers.
Not a conservative on any of those actual governing issues.
