Featuring key female staffers from a number of the leading campaigns, Glamour magazine profiles “10 powerhouses under 40” in it’s January 2008 issue. Nothing groundbreaking here junkees —these are savvy aides who had nothing but praise for their bosses—but here are a few details….

–John Edwards’ Chief of Staff, Kathleen McGlynn, once had to spend a day tracking down one of Elizabeth Edwards’ lost bras. (Elizabeth had signed one for a breast cancer charity.)
–John McCain’s spokesperson, Jill Hazelbaker, says she will only put down her blackberry down for a manicure.
–Barack Obama once booked his own commercial flight after a scheduling faux pas, according to the campaign’s Alyssa Mastromonaco.
–A school counselor once told Fred Thompson’s spokeswoman Karen Hanretty she wouldn’t amount to much. Unfortunately, she adds her mom still “doesn’t get” what she does for a living.
–Rudy Giuliani aide, Emily D’Alberto, “can function in a cab” as if it were her office.

These young women are all impressive but since I only work with one — the incomparable Kathleen McGlynn — she is the one I know best and the one, not suprisingly, I think is the most impressive. Whenever there is a problem, everyone knows that Kathleen is the best problem-solver around. She is a true powerhouse: fiercely intelligent, charming, untiring, organized, direct and dedicated. And if that isn’t enough, she is a true friend. We are truly blessed to have Kathleen at the center of the campaign and to count her among our most valued friends.
