Bush 41 Not On Board with Clinton 42 Proposal
President Clinton says one of his wife’s first acts once she’s elected president will be to send him and President George H. W. Bush on a diplomatic mission around the world — only the former President Bush isn’t exactly on board with the idea.
President Clinton told the crowd at a campaign event in South Carolina on Monday that “the first thing she intends to do is to send me and former President Bush and a number of other people around the world to tell them that America is open for business and cooperation again.” Sen Clinton repeats a generic version of this promise at nearly every stop — saying she’ll send prominent Americans of both parties around the world as soon as she’s elected to deliver the message that “the era of cowboy diplomacy is over.” She has also mentioned the elder President Bush as one Republican she’d consider for that assignment.
But President Bush’s office released a statement today saying “he has never discussed an ‘around-the world mission’ with either former President Bill Clinton or Senator Clinton, nor does he think such a mission is warranted since he is proud of the role America continues to play around the world as the beacon of hope for freedom and democracy.” A Clinton campaign spokesman says the senator has not asked the ex-president to play a role in a possible Clinton administration, but is merely using him as an example of the type of person she’d attempt to employ to restore America’s standing in the world.

President Clinton is disgusting. Every time he opens his mouth he puts his foot in it and then Hillary’s campaign has to surgically retract Bill’s foot, politically of course.
Once again the Clintons playing the fence …. Keep it up Shillary, you are hurting your cause
The main reason that the world’s opinion of the US and of George W. Bush is so low is the American mainstream media and people like Bill Clinton! When all that the rest of the world hears is how BAD things are in the US and how dumb our president is (which is NOT true!), then what else are they to believe? Can you imagine how different the world’s opinion of us might be if the media and our former officeholders actually made positive statements about their country and leadership? Perception IS reality….
Is former president Clinton trying to sink his wife’s campaign? Or, is old age taking hold?
re: “The main reason that the world’s opinion of the US and of George W. Bush is so low is the American mainstream media and people like Bill Clinton!”
No, the reason why the world’s opinion of the US and GWB is so low is because GWB told the world that Saddam Hussein had WMD’s and Saddam Hussein did NOT have WMD’s. Dick Cheney even told the world on Aug. 22, 2002 that he knew right where they were located. Bush Republicans don’t mind that there were no wmd’s in Iraq after we invaded, but 70% of America and most of the rest of the world DOES mind.
To be honest, I’m shocked that GHWB is saying he will not help a Democratic President. There is no doubt that the world hates us, and GHWB is a truly fantastic diplomat.
My husband served under GHWB in Gulf War I and he is a hero of ours. That he’s not willing to work with the other side of the aisle, after Bill Clinton went and helped GWB with the tsunami, is really petty, imo.
You gotta be kidding! These people are nuts. I agree; we look bad because our own people bad mouth us around the world for political gain with the elite left wackos. They don’t understand the danger they put America in. The terrorists can’t wait to get someone in office to knock off the patriot act and pull all the troops out of the middle east premature. There has to be something Americans can do legally to hold people accountable for bad mouthing or country or better yet putting us and our troops in more danger.
