Waiting to Endorse. . .
Congressman Steve King represents the 5th district of Iowa, the western third of the state. He is still in the middle of deciding who he will endorse, but we are now less than 3 weeks away from the Iowa caucuses.
He let me in on his endorsement decision making process giving me an exclusive look at who he is deciding between.

***UPDATE***
Congressman Steve King is going to announce his endorsement TOMORROW at 10AM eastern.
In the release King said, “ “The caucus process in Iowa is long and uniquely personal. Iowans have more access to the presidential candidates than anyone, myself included. We have closed the door and had intense discussions with nearly every candidate. I have a duty and an obligation to make my decision public about my choice for president.” King continued, “This decision is my personal conviction. No candidate, committee, or even my wife knows the conclusion I will announce.
***UPDATE***
Congressman King endorsed Fred Thompson this morning, even as Romney staffers waited to hear (in the room!) who King’s pick could be, thinking it was their guy. In response Thompson released this statement:
“Congressman King’s leadership in support of the sanctity of life and his efforts in the fight against illegal immigration have made him one of Iowa’s great Republican leaders. He’s a tireless fighter for the 5th district of Iowa and I’m honored by his support. I look forward to working with Congressman King over the next three weeks and into 2008 in support of the traditional conservative values he and I share.”
King said he would volunteer for any campaign he endorsed.
*** UPDATE***
Fred Thompson comments on Congressman King’s endorsement and the fact that members of the Romney campaign came to the endorsement thinking that King was going to endorse Governor Romney :
“I want to thank my friend Steve King for his endorsement today. It’s a very, very wonderful day for me because of Greg and Steve King. Steve King simply is a man of principle, somebody I’ve had a chance to talk with early on. I have adopted in my own plan several weeks ago on illegal immigration and what to do about it. Some ideas that Steve has had. He is a conscientious man and he goes with principle. Having someone like Steve step forward means an awful lot to me.
“I understand that today when he made his announcement, there were some other folks from another campaign standing around the wall waiting for their guy to be named. And he wasn’t. And they were kind of shocked that I got the endorsement and they didn’t. But I won’t rub it in. I’ll just say this. This ain’t the last surprise you’re going to get, folks.”

A true conservative (King) supporting the real conservative candidate - the consistent conservative, Senator Fred Thompson.
This endorsement is bigger than the mainstream media is downplaying it to be. It’s certainly bigger to conservatives than Joe Lieberman’s (an independent, who is liberal on many views) endorsement of John McCain (a Republican, but a moderate on many issues).
Here we have a CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN supporting a CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN and all the media wants to focus on the Liberman/McCain 2008 fun.
Just goes to show the fear the liberal media has of Fred Thompson. He has no skeletons - no “well, you said this eight years ago” stories - just a solid record of conservative principles and values.
And King, lauded as one of the most incredibly conservative voices in Washington, has seen that.
When will the FoxNews media, and start covering Fred as the conservative choice that he is?
If your holding your breath waiting for Fox to give Thompson fair coverage…….
huckabee is donig well because he is the true conservative.when the true consevatives vote their man wins, having ed rollins on the team solidifies what history has proven.unless huckubee implodes before feb. you will see him in a commanding lead througout those red states.yes on super tuesday this election will come down to who wins fla. and again ohio in 08.the wild card will end up being if ron paul wiil stay away from 3rd party politics.he can only hurt not help the republican candidate. kenneth setser
The powers -that-be at FNC need to get over whatever illness they have when it comes to reporting news about Fred Thompson. Ignoring him will not accomplish anything except losing viewers. Brit Hume lost me a long time ago. The rest of your programs may soon follow suit!!!
It’s interesting Fox News how you folks talked up the Rep. Steve King endorsement all day Sunday, but when it comes out for Fred Thompson instead of Mitt Romney not a word is said all Monday. I thought this was going to be big news? He is the key conservative IA endorsement right? I guess it went to the wrong guy though so it’s not news. Let me ask you, if it went to Mitt Romney, would you folks at FNC have talked about it today? I’m guessing so. But hey, it’s a two man race right?
One sentence is all this gets. Look at the coverage before it was announced for Fred. Let’s add the tag “bias” to this post eh?

After such a build up, I thought we would hear more about it today. Not so, if is Fred. You are just proving that what Senator Thompson said is true. I think it is ANYBODY BUT FRED. Can you say, “President Thompson”?
Mr King’s endorsement isn’t the last for Fred. What impresses me about Fred is he is the only true conservative running in the top five. Fred is not scared or swayed and speaks out he moves alone quietly without the media help. All the others seem to need the media. Fox News even laugh at Fred’s campaigning. FNC except Hannity and Colmes and John Gibson have made it obvious they are for Huck, Rom, or Rudy. It should be pointed out Fred will stand up to anyone and to date has proven it. Not just the media but silly debate commentators as in IA. Ask him any of your questions you get an honest answer and then check his record.. He has’nt flipped or flopped he doesn’t try to impress you with anything but the issues at hand. Fred is the only candidate out of all of them on both sides you can trust with our border problems and enforcing the rules. After all protection for America appears to be changing abroad slowly… Our sincere thanks to all the Military of America and the man of the year in my eyes General Petraus. We the people need to keep up our end at home and fight for protection of America and protect the borders. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.
Fox News is losing me as a viewer also. They are just as biased as the MSM only they do it ohhh so much more subtly. Just make sure you get your news from many differnet sources & go with your instinct. Fred’s been my man since last spring/summer when there was a hint he might get in. Do your research on every candidate…..you’ll end up coming to Fred everytime.
I think that Mike Huckabee is not as truly conservative as Fred Thompson. He is on the social issues (Abortion, gay marriage, etc.), but not across the board. If we want a truly conservative president, in the Reagan image (Not exactly the same, but as close as possible), we have to look to Fred Thompson.
I have been a loyal Fox viewer for years, I even switched to satellite so I could get your channel.
But after seeing the blatant blacklisting of Fred Thompson I am going to other channels for my news.
I don’t know what objections Fox’s has to Fred Thompson, but you owe it to your audience to give a “fair and balanced” reporting of all the news not just what you choose to report. Just today you aired a poll showing the standings totally omitting Fred while showing Paul, who is the lowest in the standings. Fred is still running 3rd or 4th depending on the poll.
You have not shown Fred’s Christmas as to the troops. You have downplayed the endorsement by Steve King, and totally ignored the fact that Tancredo’s staff endorsed Fred even though Tancredo didn’t, which I think is very important news for Fred’s followers to hear.
When are you going to put aside personal differences and do the responsible reporting you have a mandate to do for your viewers.
where is the FNC coverage of Fred Thompson’s Christmas message–arguably the best of all the Christmas ads?
Is Fox News REALLY as biased against the Senator as the rumors have recently said?
It saddens me, as a loyal viewer of FOX News Channel since 9/11, that I hear next to nothing about Senator Thompson. Sure, Sean Hannity did a piece on Hannity and Colmes when Mrs. Thompson was labeled a “trophy wife”, but hey, that was a hot topic and therefore good for ratings. Being from Tennessee myself and having Ronald Reagan very high up on my list of heroes, it’s only natural for me to want some info out there about the Senator so more people other than us in his home state can truly understand. Things such as what the man is about and why we are so excited that this man is as Reagan-esque as we’ve seen since the President’s passing.
I do believe with all of my heart that Mr. Thompson is the best man for the job right now as he is a strict Constitutionalist, a staunch conservative and an all around down to earth human being. I’m sorry if that scares people in the Northeastern part of the country, just like Reagan did, but I believe we did pretty well when that man was in office, and I think Thompson is just as strong on many, many of the same issues. Strengthen our border, strengthen our military, cut our taxes, keep the Bush tax cuts and keep the Federal Government out of our lives as much as possible… How are these bad things?
Fair and Unbiased, my Nashvillian rear-end. Talk up Gulianni all you want, talk up ole Mitt the same, but give Fred a break, throw him a bone and I’ll promise you a return on your investment many times over once people get to see him and understand him and why he is needed so much right now. They’ll remember where they heard it.
Thanks for your time.
