Obama advisor on Hillary Clinton’s apology to Obama
Billy Shaheen, the co-chair of Senator Clinton’s New Hampshire campaign, told a reporter yesterday that the GOP might use Senator Obama’s past drug use as an attack point.
Obama’s camp swifty issued a written statement, blasting the Clinton campaign of dredging up old issues, once again, to distract from her dismal poll numbers.
Team Clinton denounced the remarks, Shaheen himself apologized. Hillary Clinton apologized to Obama himself on the tarmac in Washington prior to their (separate) flights to Des Moines. But the story is not over.
Today in the spin room following an hour and a half debate in Iowa, Obama senior advisor David Axelrod recounted what he knew about the Obama-Clinton meeting on a DC tarmac.
He said a Clinton aide approached the Obama camp and requested the meeting, which was just between t lasted about 10 minutes, during which Obama told Clinton how he felt a campaign should be run from the top down. Axelrod said the Muslim emails “may have come up” in the discussion, but Axelrod did not hear the conversation.
He was also asked if such attacks are good for the campaign - since campaign manager David Plouff issued a fundraising email featuring Shaheen’s comments.
Here is what Axelrod told the scrum.
